wait how do you actually respell capable in genam
KAY-puh-buhl..?
I just realized <ay> is supposed to mean /ɛj/ 😵💫
.~., i've never loved this sort of transcription
at least it doesn't look as scary as IPA to beginners
i mean yeah, u can't expect most english learners to know ipa
yeah and they kinda don't have to
knowing IPA is just pretty convenient (if you know how to use it ofc)
I'd say most beginners I knew learned to pronounce words correctly without actually learning phonetics or phonology
(mainly through youtube/other social media)
well yeah, that makes sense
u don't really need to understand phonology to pronounce words correctly obviously
if you have a good ear, learning IPA is pretty much useless
but things like the dental fricatives for example i never noticed before studying phonology
or the [v] and [z] sounds, maybe i just really have bad hearing lmao
many people can relate to that
but like none of those sounds exist in my native language, and even if can't distinguish them correctly, a basic study of phonology helped at least start trying to pronounce those sounds
(also i may be the biggest [z] hater in the world)
your first language doesn't have a [z]?
nope
does it have an [s] tho?
spanish is known for not having voiced sibilants
at least my dialect doesn't have any
interesting
[b] [d] and [g] become fricatives intervocalically
but the distinction is not phonemic
and most spanish speakers don't even realize it
what does the /d/ turn into?
most of my fellow spanish native english learners are capable of pronouncing the voiceless dental fricative
but they would never realize that that is the sound at the beginning of three
voiced dental fricative
oh!
I guess the /b, g/ are [β, ɣ] intervocalically right
exactly
so spain spanish speakers have both dental fricatives in their inventory
but most of them can't make the distinction in english
because of poor phonology understanding
yeah but because they're not phonemic most spanish speakers don't even know they exist
yeahh
i was so excited when one of my college classmates was learning phonology
and was making weird sounds mid class
based
truly based, i tried to help him a bit but he wants to learn that on his own, respectable tbh
/z/ should be [ʙ ~ ɔ̃] phonetically
ok u changed my mind [z] is no longer the worst phoneme ever
lol
i think the sound itself isn't that bad
but like how was i supposed to know -s pluralizer is sometimes [z]
and like "those" also has a [z]
the dogcat rule
zip, zit, zoo, zone
what is a zit?
like a pimple
ohhh, yea i think i've heard that
in spanish dialects with distinción <z> makes a [θ] sound
sounds awesome
its not better than [z] but its pretty regular
it's pretty interesting it's not voiced tho
so at least learners can easily predict it
yeah, weird thing is i think most latin american dialects realize the <y>[ʝ]/<ll>[ʎ] sound as a sort of voiced fricative
but most people use that sound as [dʒ] in english
I really hate this system of respelling. Iss so unintuitive
I think the original had 'bl' where you've used 'buhl' to represent a syllabic l
isn't it an approximant in Spanish?
maybe it's more intuitive for those who know nothing about IPA and so the only thing they can refer to is the english orthography
my ipa-pilled brain reads kAY as [æj ~ aj]
likewise, I have no idea how 'ay' could represent ɛj
I guess words like may, day do their thing
ah, waait yea
hi miss scella, spanish <z>[θ] (in the dialects where it actually exists) is a fricative, and even in my distinción lacking dialect, most people can actually make /θ/ bc its how we do a stereotypical "spain spanish" accent
"español de españa" is a phrase i love saying, it sounds so funny out loud
Sorry, I responded to the wrong message. Yea the voiceless one is a fricative.
I meant to respond to this
ahhh
yes [β̞, ð̞, ɣ̞] i think these are approximants, but like, my point was that spanish speakers could use the voiced dental approximant for the english voiced dental fricative

@ember hatch How do you pronounce "Scella" is it like Cellar or is it like Skill but the i is replaced with an e?
Like 'Skill' (mutatis mutandis)
It's vaguely based on Latin 'Scelus'
Sella, Stella, Shella, and Shchella are very common mispronunciations
I thought it was
Oh really?
@scenic mortar u sup ??
Hello, all! I have a question on how to pronounce contractions such as "you'd, I'd, he'd" and "I'll, she'll". I'll provide a audio record of my own on whether I pronounce these contractions correctly. I'd be glad if you provide me a feedback.
You got most of it correctly, yeah! Only one that seems a little bit off (idk if it's the audio's fault though) would be on ''he'd'', since it'd be best if you pronounced the "h" a little bit more.
Here's a quick audio of how I'd pronounce these contractions alongside a quick example of their use.
Thanks a lot for your feedback, Sage. I really appreciate it.

By Imitation
What's wrong with sounding Indian
This is how i feel like what I sound https://youtube.com/shorts/bwEXtdcZK_k?si=UVQ2XBObxrATQwbe
Hold on I'm out now
Man it's okay but if you feel really uncomfortable work on it by imitation of other accent for example while watching a movie, listening to a song repeat what they say in the same way

Hello Everyone, how are you today?
I hope you stay in good condition and stay healthy. On this channel you can send your English voice recordings. You can use the built-in voice recorder from your device or use this website ↓
This website is a simple voice recording website that is very easy and practical to use. You just need to record then save and share the link here. Don't forget to write accent that you use in your voice recording, so that we can identify the pronunciation of words in English according to the pronunciation in the accent used.
good question :))))
This would make more sense as a voice channel.
Good opinion, but not everyone dares to speak directly. I tell you what happened in the voice. Even though in full voice participant. Not everyone wants to talk. Some are silent and even mute themselves.
So in order to continue to provide assistance in their language skills, we created this channel. Although not as effective as talking 1 on 1 directly. However, back again to the top, that not everyone immediately confident to speak in English
i would talk in vc
if theres a session soon
Up to you, Ma'am

The food industry is one of the largest manufacturing industries in the world. As the demand for economical, safe and convenient food and beverage increases, it continues to expand. The food industry involves the four stages of agriculture, manufacturing, marketing and distribution . Agriculture refers to the production of agricultural goods through the growing of plants and the raising of domesticated animals. It encompasses a wide variety of specialties. In modern agriculture, plant breeding, pesticides, fertilizers and technological improvements have sharply increased yields from cultivation. Selective breeding and modern practices in animal husbandry such as intensive poultry farming have similarly increased the output of meat.
the text
Wow.. good job, but at the beginning you read it really fast then slow down towards the end of the sentence. Try listening to part " Selective breeding and modern practices in animal husbandry Such As intensive poultry farming have similarly increased the output of the meat"
- Such As sounds like Such At. (At my ears)
- Industry (Not a pronunciation in British)
So far so good, I can understand everything 👍🏼
thank you, i will try to improve 💞💞💞
Hey there,
I really loved your speaking skill to be honest. Frankly, there are two things which I would really like to underline. Those are "Th" pronunciation, "Schwa" sounds and butterfly sound, which is æ pronunciation . For instances, "Through" and "Continues" and "Animal". Furthermore, I highly recommend you check IPA a bit more. Sometimes, you put the stress on a wrong letter. For example, "Practices" you should put the stress on the letter P* here. The letter must be stronger and the tone must be increased while pronouncing it. Regarding intonation, as @barren oasis has already mentioned above, at the beginning of your speech, you really read it in a very fast way. After that, you made your speech slower. It somehow affects your intonation a bit badly.
Related to accent, as far as I have analyzed, you have been doing both Indian accent and British accent. Mostly, you do "British Modern RP(Received Pronunciation).
Sincerely,
thank you 😄 that was great to hear so, i will try my best
https://voca.ro/12SEby4Whcjq sorry the sound was a little bit weird i blame it on vocaroo :)
Ooh your accent is absolutely lovely!
ooh thank youuuu
https://voca.ro/16cyNGRPNpvz can someone judge my pronunciation?
Vocaroo is a quick and easy way to share voice messages over the interwebs.
Do you have a transcript of what you are saying?
I have troubles understanding everything (not your fault)
yes, check pins it is the first
Oh okay! Definitely will do that
Ooh lovely! I definitely want to try and read it too!
With the transcript it's a lot easier to understand what you are saying.
You'll have to ask someone else for more details, but all I can say is that it's understandable but still needs practice (sorry for this not very useful answer )
np
I need to improve myself tho
When don't we anyway
May I be so bold as to ask what you think of my attempt?

Hello everyone
Hello dear,
I would really like to help you. However, it seems the link is not working anymore. Would you mind uploading and sharing the link with us by using this channel again?
Regards,
Oh shoot! Of course
Give me two minutes and I'll replace it!
You are free to tag me, dear @true maple . I am willing to help you. See you for now...
Oh it's fine! It's just a stupid mistake on my part
No worries. Better late than never, whenever the link is available to be listened, keep me updated.
Okay fixed it! Had to rerecord it, took me a few attempts (I tend to stumble on my words so I tried again and again until I had a satisfying result ^^)
First of all, I would really like to say that your storytelling style is amazing. I am amazed to be honest. Your intonation is also great, you put the stress on the correct letters but Listening. I feel like you put the stress on the letter t here -I may misunderstand it as a result of your microphone noise- please DO NOT put the stress on the letter t on the word listen
I wish I could give you as much feedback as I can. Yet, due to your microphone noise, it is literally hard to understand your speech clearly, which makes the analysis harder.
Regards,
I might try again without it 🤔
It would be great if you had a clear microphone. It would make the analysis better for everyone including me.
I must say I do not know
In any case, I will be more careful. It cannot hurt to do so anyway.
And I am delighted to know that you like my storytelling, this is very important for me as I was complimented for it in my native language. To know that it is still present in English makes me very happy.
I think you shouldn't say your accent is so bad or something negative. Unlike you, if I were in your shoes, I could probably say I had to study harder to improve it. The community, The English Hub is existed to help all people with providing a practice area to improve their English skills including speaking skill.
I highly recommend you use VC Voice Channels and Chats more often to improve your English in a better way.
Regards,
If you ask my personal opinion, I deeply recommend you do more storytelling stuff. I am willing to see your storytelling stuff more on well-known storytelling platforms. It would be great to hear your voice more often.
Sincerely,
I am trying to record myself reading parts of a fic I wrote with a friend of mine, and would be very happy to share it with you if you are interested.
thank you so much , i would definitely work on it !
I am into. I was busy doing some *voice over stuıff as an Interpreter/Translator/English Teacher. Please send me. If there is something I can help with, please do not hesitate to keep in touch with me though DM.

Sociology is an exciting and illuminating field of study that analyzes and explains important matters in our personal lives, our communities, and the world. At the personal level, sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as romantic love, racial and gender identity, family conflict, deviant behavior, aging, and religious faith. At the societal level, sociology examines and explains matters like crime and law, poverty and wealth, prejudice and discrimination, schools and education, business firms, urban community, and social movements. At the global level, sociology studies such phenomena as population growth and migration, war and peace, and economic development.``` source: https://sociology.unc.edu/undergraduate-program/sociology-major/what-is-sociology/
Also I said immigration instead of migration.
🙂
It is pretty cool to be honest. I loved it.
I would probably give 95 out of 100
If you say what happened to 5 points. I can basically say it is about intonation and some stress issues.
For example, development
development
you should put the stress on v
not D 🙂
It is not a big deal to be honest.
Actually I think the issue also stems from the fact that I barely read, hahaha
Oh okay!
Definitely! I think you have ready a few times before recording it.
The more practice you do, the better you read.
Intonation also depends on your interest. If you know the subject/topic you will talk about, you will put the stress on the correct parts. Furthermore, you can be careful about rising and falling tones.
I wish I could listen to more natives in VC, but the differences in time zones are quite big. Plus, I work during the day so then I'm done for at night. It's quite a shame, haha
Absolutely, yeah. I've reread it a couple of times!
That's pretty good. Believe or not, it is spectacular! I loved your reading skill including pronunciation. 🙂
Could you please sign here? --let me give you my t-shirt dear--
😛
What do you think about my 'accent'? 😄 Others usually say I don't have one. That goes with other languages as well.
Thank you! I appreciate it.
hahahaha
You have both Americanized accent -American accents- and British RP(Received pronunciation)
To sum up, you have mixed accent 🙂
Is that very common among non natives?
As a non-native, I can literally say YES
As an English teacher, I generally have to teach both -common ones- American & British accents
That sounds about right, actually. We are taught British in school, but lots of the influence comes from other types of media, which is usually American.
Oh wait, seriously?
Wait. Where are you from, if I may ask?
That sounds right* don't use prep between sound and adjective 🙂
About my education, it was also same. Both British and American accents had been taught.
The media has some impacts on us as a human being. We imitate people 🙂
I've gotten so used to interacting online, that it's become so normalised. Thank you!
If you don't mind, may I ask how old you are?
Of course, haha. I'm going to turn 21 in a month or so.
The Czech Republic
I felt like you got ready to answer this already 😄
Whereabouts are you from? You said you're not a native haha
Turkey
Shall we have a chit-chat if you have some time? I feel like it will be a lot fun!
Sure 😄 Just send me a friend request. I'll be heading to sleep soon, though. What time is it for you? Aren't you like uh, one hour behind/ahead?
It's 23:35 for me atm.
ahead 1 hour 😉
Are you an early bird? 🙂
Not really! But I wouldn't consider myself to be a night owl either. I bet you're a night owl. 😄 I tend to sleep in. It's not ideal, as my shift usually starts around 10 and I really have to be there on time.
Mine starts at 6:00 pm till 3:00 am 🙂 some Amazon issues 🙂
Let me write you in private, I feel like the chat is like private 😄
Hahaha, for sure.

The sound quality is not that great, and you are not saying enough to judge it. Please submit a proper recording of you reading an academic passage or talking about a topic you are passionate about for two minutes. Check out the pinned message. All the best.
Well I did it hope it works
Vocaroo is a quick and easy way to share voice messages over the interwebs.
Your English is very natural and easy to understand. I detect an accent. English? You could be a little bit more expressive, but other than that, it's excellent.
I’m not English
So what's the accent? I cannot place it.
Not too sure try harder
I live in Australia btw
If you study English in Australia. They have a slightly different accent and way of speaking with Americans.
Australian English
I think you had better read an article or something, it would be easier to clarify your speaking skill and accent. I have understood what you have said on the recording. It is clear. To be able to analyze your speaking and accent, I and I think we all need more sentences. I think you see what I mean.
Comprehensibility: 10 out of 10 🙂
Regards,
I was born in Australia lol
I remember due to my australian pronounciation, my friend got bullied coz her name is Cait and it sounded like Kite
She was called Kite for the rest of the week
https://voca.ro/18ClzLdm1KGi Please judge my accent
I can understand every single words you say, you're good.
I hardly understand, I need to improve my listening skill
Interesting accent, where are you from, never heard something like that before.

Once a big, black hungry crow was flying around looking for food. He came across a big piece of bread lying on the ground and picked it up in his beak. He then flew to a tree nearby and perched on its branch. He looked forward to eating the bread.
A fox passing by, saw the crow perched on the tree with the bread in his beak.
The fox thought to himself, “Mmmmm. That bread looks so tasty. I have to find a way to get it from the crow.”
The fox walked up to the tree and said, “Oh crow, you are looking so handsome today. Your feathers are so glossy and sparkling. You look like the king of the birds. I am sure your voice is as majestic as your presence.”
The crow was pleased to hear his praise. But he could not say a word because of the bread in his beak.
The fox continued, “Oh king of the birds! Do let me have the pleasure of hearing you sing. I will be the most blessed fox.”
The crow, who had never heard such praise, could no longer control himself.
He stretched his neck, raised his head to the sky and began to caw loudly.
And…
Down fell the bread right into the waiting fox’s mouth.
The crow was left cawing while the fox gobbled up the bread.
pls rate my pronunciation thanks 🙏

Perfect. You speak as well as a native speaker. I admire you so much
https://voca.ro/1byB4EIABTUq it took me 30 tries but I managed to squeeze out a decent recording
Good
I only listened to the first 30 or so sec
Generally good.
Things to work on:
[ch] perched, branch
[ey] tasty and [e] bread
Keep it up. :)
breathe. I feel like you're in a hurry. Maybe nervous?? The sounds are there. No strong accent. Just pace yourself.
Slow down.
- It helps us calm ourselves.
- The words will come out clearer.
I think you're talking about dogs. But I can't hear the [g], so it sounds like daaawz
They have all their meals deliver -> They have all their meals delivered straight...
easy
I heard e as in bed [e zi]. Should be [ ee zee]
When I read something I tend to read it fast if it's out loud. It's a lot more comprehensible if you leave me in a room by my own devices. But thank you!
Thanks, i will keep practicing

you can do it 🤗

Can you please judge my accent . I chose a text called dreams .
I was too shy to send this vocal but I did it😭😭😭
mixed feelings about it.
this is the first two paragraphs from my favourite book, 1984 by George Orwell. Sorry for the bad audio quality.
you got past your shyness. good job 🥳
As for the pronunciation, work on the /h/ sound
have, horror
I like your accent, you pronounce everything very clearly too
You may look into "linking sounds" to make your speech more fluid overall
My accent, please judge it:

It's a Cave Johnson Quote from the game Portal 2
I'm looking for points to improve
Nice job, I’d pronounce Lemon like Yemen starting with an L. lay-months vs leh-mens
Thanks! You're right, I noticed it now, my vowels are my challenge sometimes
portal! woooo
the cake is a lie
i like that u read it with emotions 😆
ya, the "lemons"
also "engineers" and "combustible"
demand in demand to see life's manager i hear as depend but maybe it's just the recording
overall, it's easy to understand
Thank you for the support . I will work on it
Thank you . Its so comforting 😊😊 I will keep practicing
hahah, it's my favorite quote to date!
thank you so much, will look into what you said
It's a conversation about checking in at the airport > https://vocaroo.com/1dSErCBsoAqj < There are two people talking 😂
haha ya I like this quote
also like the game
your voice sounds nice
the way you said "hi" sounds friendly
when I say "hi" it sounds forced haha maybe coz it is
about the pronunciation:
sure
I heard: s
should be: sh like in shoe
shoor
or a quick shur
busy
should be: BIZ ee
like the biz in business
and the /w/ sound. I wonder if it's not present or if it sounds different in your first language. Coz I know another language where saying wood or woman will sound like 'ood and 'ooman. Anyway, the point is it happens. Sometimes speakers drop their /w/.
So start with words with /w/ that you can already say. Simple ones like way, water, wet
then try to isolate that sound wuh, wuh

An influencer is a person who can influence the decisions of their followers because of their relationship with their audience and their knowledge and expertise in a particular area, e.g. fashion, travel or technology.
Influencers often have a large following of people who pay close attention to their views. They have the power to persuade people to buy things, and influencers are now seen by many companies as a direct way to customers’ hearts. Brands are now asking powerful influencers to market their products. With some influencers charging up to $25,000 for one social media post, it is no surprise that more and more people are keen to become influencers too.
Hi everyone, I read a fragment of Shrek's Wikipedia page:
Text:
||Shrek and Donkey travel to the castle and are attacked by Dragon. Shrek locates Fiona, who is appalled by his lack of romanticism, and they flee the castle after rescuing Donkey. When Shrek removes his helmet revealing he is an ogre, Fiona stubbornly refuses to go to Duloc demanding Farquaad arrive in person, but Shrek carries her against her will. That night, after setting up camp and with Fiona alone in a cave, Shrek confides in Donkey about his frustration with being feared and rejected by others over his appearance. Fiona overhears and decides to be kind to Shrek. The next day, they encounter Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men, and Fiona dispatches them easily with martial arts when they attack. Shrek is impressed with Fiona, and they begin to fall in love.||
so when i listen to audios like this I don't read the text to make sure I'm understanding the speaker and not just reading the text in my mind
and yes, I did understand most of the lines
mispronounced but I understood from context:
castle
are attacked
Fiona
alone
Farquaad (i understood it's a proper name but couldn't hear it clearly. also note that i actually haven't seen the movie in full so I'm not familiar with the names lol)
parts i didn't get when i first listened
revealing he is an ogre - if I understood revealing, i might have gotten the rest
carries
rejected
what needs work (i think) is where to put the stress. use online dictionaries with audio or try Youglish to listen where the stress falls in words like attack, reveal, revealing
Again, it's comprehensible for the most part and this is just suggestion for further improvement. You got this :thusky:
Thank you so much @river lance , I will consider your advice. Nice strategy to not read the text!
Important words you may use in your job and a more precise pronunciation may help:
check (CH sound) tfd.com/check
BALcony (stress) tfd.com/balcony
dinner and diner tfd.com/dinner tfd.com/diner
If you want to be sure people understand you, a good tip is to use pauses at will and speak at a comfortable speed. (I think you nailed these already, so focus on stress and intonation more than speaking faster.)
Intonation and stress helps a lot in being understood because the important information and words are always being focused.
I like your pronunciation overall, although it seems that sometimes the sounds went missing like "influence" at the beginning and then "things" and "seen" at 0:24.
You can take short pauses between sentences in a long paragraph like the first one or at the comma at 0:22 "people to buy things, "
You may want to put more Stress and Rhythm like you did so well at 0:42 (...media post, ""it is no surprise that""...)
Thank you for your time) I appreciate your help so much
Hey. I am just curious about my accent. I tend to speak fast but I am practicing slowing down a bit. Well, here it goes
https://voca.ro/15jkUMVDvvev
Biology is the scientific study of life.It is a natural science with a broad scope but has several unifying themes that tie it together as a single, coherent field.[1][2][3] For instance, all organisms are made up of cells that process hereditary information encoded in genes, which can be transmitted to future generations. Another major theme is evolution, which explains the unity and diversity of life. Finally, all organisms require energy to move, grow, and reproduce, as well as to regulate their own internal environment.
Hello i am also curious about my accent (Currently perfecting my Received Pronunciation). And i just copy @steep jasper sentences (2 sentence) ha !Thank you Gargi! https://voca.ro/1iG0h8MRl6v8 Well my teacher! Here u are! FEEL FREE TO DM ME FOR JUDGING ME! JUST BE EXTREMELY PICKY!
Your welcome 😂😂
Hi, I read another fragment of Shrek's Wikipedia page:
Shrek abandons Donkey and returns to his now-vacated swamp, but realizes that despite his privacy, he feels miserable and misses Fiona. Donkey arrives at the swamp and confronts Shrek. During their quarrel, Donkey explains that the "ugly beast" Fiona was referring to was someone else, and urges him to express his feelings for Fiona before she marries, and the two quickly travel to Duloc thanks to Dragon who Donkey had befriended earlier. Shrek interrupts the wedding just before the ceremony completes and tells Fiona that Farquaad is only marrying her to become king. The sun sets as Fiona transforms into an ogress in front of everyone, causing a surprised Shrek to understand what he overheard.
Remember not to instinctively roll your "r"s at 'returns' or 'realizes', for example! Here's how you do it:
https://seeingspeech.ac.uk/ipa-charts/?chart=1&datatype=1&speaker=1#location=633
tw: xray of human being - pretty nasty if you're not prepared to see it, or you've never seen it before.
Thanks for the specific advice, the "r" is the hardest thing for me since i'm used to spelling it that way in my first language, but I will try to be more aware of that when I speak
Appalachian 😎
Thank you so much for the feeeback
I can only say that I really like your accent. Where are you from?
I guess is the rhythm I find likeable to listen to and the speed you used in this kind of text is perfect for me
@spare dock thank you! That's very sweet of you. And to answer your question ,I m from India😊
I find the rhythm and intonation almost perfect, well delivered
The accent resembles the British accent I think @river lance
Thanks for your feedback, @river lance!
William Shakespeare poem- "Shall I Compare thee to a Summer's Day?" Can anyone check the pronunciation as well as accent(British accent and pronunciation),God!! I will really thankful to you. Let me know, how it is sounding for you ,is it hilarious 😶or normal 🥱?

@vernal zenith It's good but you have to do some improvement in pronunciation.
I'm not reading any text, but speaking casually and improvising.
What I said :
||Hello everyone, I'm James from Colombia, and this time I'm not reading any text, but I'm speaking casually. I'm doing this in order to practice my improvisation skills. So, let's talk about... When I joined the server for the first time. It was... A month ago, and everyone was very nice to me, they welcomed me, they told me like... the rules and how everything worked. I didn't join any voice channels right away because I was not confident in my speaking and in my accent, but with time I have been working on that, thanks to several recommendations that people have been giving (to) me. So thank you all for listening, and if I made a mistake while recording this - that it's very likely, feel free to let me know so that I can work on that too, bye bye.||
Hello everyone this is my first time doing this i talked casually if i made any mistakes please do let me know
https://voca.ro/142IXw98vZ0E
We could make a mock interview here so that you practice, it would be fun
Your accent for me is more on the rhythm and word stress side of things, so you could focus on that to be clearer
Also, if you want to be smoother you could benefit a lot from using more filler words or sounds in your speech https://www.fluentu.com/blog/english/english-filler-words/
It can make you sound more natural and link the ideas better
I think being able to speak just like that without any hesitation is enough for people to respect you in the workplace, I think you are articulate enough
But, if your goal is to socialize with natives, or feel more accepted in some sense, then improving stress and pronunciation would be the best bet.
I think at this point it's less about English ability but more on confidence
agreeing to what has been said
It's decent enough
I mean sure, we can tell there's an accent but it does not get in the way of making yourself understood
consider henry's suggestion
or find a language partner you can have conversations with (i think people here are very supportive. it shouldn't be a problem)
When you're regularly speaking with someone, it's like having a less stressful environment to try speaking and socializing. So when you get to the actual job interview or you need to socialize with your colleagues, you can really tell yourself i can do this. it's gonna be fine because you have done so. You can just say this is just like that time I spoke to this person and that person on discord
And if you're like me, the first time speaking with some stranger online aaargh it was nerve-wracking. Even now, I'd still get the nerves minutes before a voice a call. But I have to tell myself "hey, you want to speak Japanese/Spanish right?"
so yea... just gotta jump right into it

SUBTITLES😁 : Hello lads, I'm Mainu, and I'm from a beautifull country named Bangladesh. And yeah, I'm speaking casually. So, I'm doing this because I think It might be helpfull for me to receive feedback. I want to know about my clarity, speed, and, yeah, of course, about my accent. Actually I'm trying to learn an RP accent. And I really have no idea how far I came. I would really like to know about that. I really want to do a better job in it. And yeah,it wouldnt hurt to know, If I haven't mentioned my country, what nationality would you think I'm???
Let me know what u guys think, eh??? please.
Ta Ra. See you all later.
Thank you for sharing your recording
This is my personal assessment, meaning others may disagree.
You are on the right track with the majority of the words you pronounced. Although more practice is needed, you also need to slow down a bit. For example, when you pronounced the word helpful, you were a bit speedy, not giving enough emphasis as RP accent usually does with such words, such as grateful, dreadful, woeful, etc.
Another example is the word "far", you did well with fading the R. However, it was again a bit speedy.
The word "clarity" needed a bit more emphasis on the R, but not too much
I'd recommend slowing down a bit and watching for the vowels especially how they are pronounced when close to the end of a word, such as the word "know", in RP accent. Moreover, if you asked me what accent I think you had, I'd either say Sudanese or Bangladesh
I'd also recommend watching this video as it has some nice tips here and there for RP accent
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0qShxkuS7Q
Finally, I hope I helped even if a little bit and thank you for sharing your lovely voice
RP also called Standard British English and Posh English or upper class, or public school English. and the Queen's English or Oxford English or BBC English. How do they compare? In this video we take a look at the history and compare the different pronunciations. We also look at the English of people who have been educated abroad such as Freddie...

Okay, so, can you guess where I'm from? Any feedback on my accent would be great.

Hi
Hello
go to #💭|general to chat not here lol unless you are talking to someone about their accent
Hi guys, can you please judge my accent?
https://vocaroo.com/1hXRRlO6cLsD
I'm not an expert but your accent is great
Your accent is good it’s just that the first 10 seconds of the recording was a little muffled so I kind of couldn’t really understand what you were saying but everything else was fine 👍

Vocaroo is a quick and easy way to share voice messages over the interwebs.
it’s too loud
the background noise
sounds good to me. don’t worry about the r or l sound. I think you are pronounce them right, but need practice to make it fluent👀
Vocaroo is a quick and easy way to share voice messages over the interwebs.
Reading "Stopping by Woods on a snowy evening" by Robert Frost
You just need to click on the link and record your voice whilst speaking in English.
I think that’s how it works
Exactly

Vocaroo is a quick and easy way to share voice messages over the interwebs.
lol im a little insecure of my voice because i watch that yt video of the space debate
Me after hearing my own voice on a recording for the first time
lol yeah its pretty relatable
Because is pronounced /bɪˈkəz/ actually
oh okay thankyou for the correction
there's a lot to improve in my pronounciation hehe
I’ll recommend you listening to audiobook and reading an actual book at the same time. It really helps.
wow thankyou for the tips jogi 🙏i also think not having someone to practice english with makes me less able to hone my pronounciation skill 🥺
If you don’t have a chance to speak with natives or summat - try the tip I’ve told ya
but if i dont do it almost daily i think i'll forget to how to speak eloquently haha its just my mother tongue is much more similar with spanish with brash A or E and pronouncing every letters
Just 20 minutes a day is a great start.
Is there a way to “change” your accent cause im from liverpool and have a british rp accent and everyone thinks im posh
dont worry I'm from the hills of Appalachia and everyone thinks I'm a dumb hillbilly
I have learned if you just try to force your vowels differently you can somewhat change your accent but you'll always have that coloring
It’s an accent that most of us in the UK used to speak with. Now there are only a few people that speak with pure RP. I still do! And don’t wanna change that.
I wouldn't sweat too much about my accent if I were you, as long as they understand you. It brings you personality
I understand English perfectly but never really talked to others in English because I was never confident in my accent and because I sound way younger than I actually am so my speech is lagging behind. I'm from Eastern Europe
I'm not an expert but your accent is good
Be more confident in yourself
thank you kindly, it's more about my insecurity of sounding 15 while I'm actually 22
yup
https://voca.ro/1jwh1pt5yC1y
im not confident with my accent it sounds weird, btw this is for my assignment
@river lance you got a good accent and I had no problem understanding you
i feel this. I'm in my 30s and if i don't modulate my voice I sound like a chipmunk
ur recording sounds clear btw
Thank you
I just spoke to a bunch of Americans and played a game
They found my accent amusing
Had fun tho
same text, 1 month later
Can somebody test my accent please 😭
of course 😭
send a recording and we'll have a go at it
I’ve just heard that Estuary Accent sometimes creeps into my pure RP accent. Lmao
No, he's French but he's fluent in English.
I'm fluent indeed but French to the core
Inb4 a hispanic comes and says they are also from america
well... technically... lol
I'm American
"Well yes but actually no"
how can I improve my accents
depends on which accent you want to master, but try to read aloud or talk to people and listen a lot to native speakers to get a grip on how they say things
It’s not about accent it’s about being understood
Unless you guys are auditioning for a movie or something
I can’t stress this enough
Many people are from the states but it doesn’t mean their first language is English
That’s why I’m afraid abt the future of the English language
to what extent are you afraid?
Consume media in your target accent and speak with natives
Imitate
altho i think most of the time when they talk about accent they mean reducing the accent so they can be understood
How can I improve American accent ?
I find that listening to American speakers helps a lot, that's how I learnt the accent

more practice advise from me
for me all language is about practice
becuase if we only know the theory or whatever is it, it's gonna be useles if you can't speak
input - output
it would also be difficult to practice if you don't know what to practice
Train your ears.
This is something I think people overlook
Usually people would talk about reading a lot
And then practicing speaking
But you have to hear what it sounds like first before you can reproduce it in speech
If anyone here's into music, it's the same
singing, especially,
we're using the air in our diaphragm, our vocal cords, our articulators (ex. lips, jaw) to produce sound
but we have to hear the pitch first
and try to coordinate our body parts to match the sound/pitch
for some it comes easily
for others not so much. a bit of work and guidance is needed but it's not impossible
I’m happy to judge American 🇺🇸 accents
I speak American English if y’all need someone to verbally talk to. I am fluent, it’s my first language.😌
lol we sont really have accents like i dont, i just sound normal, but since my throat hurts i sound like a guy lol

You seemed nervous at the beginning and confident at the end, and you sound best when confident regarding stress and rythm. You're doing well, keep it up and record your pen tapping skills, I used to do it all the time lol
Thank you<3
Yes
Noice, I've been meaning to get one just so I can play songs like the Adventure Time song. You should go to the Karaoke VC and sing there too btw, it would be awesome

can someone judge my accent tomorrow?
@river lance
Got it, Thx ❤️
Can anybody point out where I'm making mistakes or it would be lovely if someone can help me fix my accent.
Omg i like ur accent
If you want to improve your RP accent - besides, many ppl in the UK don't like rp accent at all because it's too formal sometimes, but you could try listening to audiobooks read by Stephen Fry, for instance.
yea
Also - reading an actual book whilst listening to the audiobook could be more helpful.
yea or practice with friends who like rp
I speak with modern RP - but that's not like pure RP. : D
And there's also contemporary RP
Which is an accent ppl speak in london, for instance.
@white terrace @analog chasm @rare valley Thx
Currently I'm reading/listening to Harry Potter by Jim Dale
You should also try Stephen Fry. : )
Just clarifying for other people - you mean RP is seen as too formal sometimes, right? :)
Pure RP (Queen’s English) - indeed
That’s why we speak rather with modern or contemporary RP : )
They’re slightly different
Okay I don't know what I'm going to say HAHA
i def sense the fil accentt XDhi fellow fil~
great :) (maybe go back and edit your initial reply for people reading through the answer? You wrote that RP is seen as too informal sometimes
)
Omg sorry for that.
haha no worries at all! I knew exactly what you meant :)

Hello... Is there anyone who wants to practice English speaking with me?
Please DM me if you are interested
Anyone here for practicing English ?
Accent from?
Well, sometimes it sounds as American accent and other times sounds like British.
Thx, actually I'm trying to get a British accent, although most of my life I've heard nAmE
Just keep practicing to get that accent. In my case, I'm trying to improve my accent.

@analog chasm
Thank you
I tried to improve compare to the last time. Let me know how do you think about it?
yup
better than the other in that it sounds clear and confident. I like that you don't slur
final sound in judge: jud -> judj
Altho the first one isn't too bad either. What's noticeable for me is how higher in pitch it was. You're 12 so it could just be the voice starting to go lower now. But i think it's more to do with your confidence, which you would feel if you're noticing improvement in yourself
interesting! what's the tell?
I'm guessing Japanese but am not really very confident lol
i mean it's not like I've heard a lot of speakers of different languages
also, what do you mean "Asian"? Like which Asian? Indian's are Asians too, for example 😂
defo leans to Australian but u have a poor choice of words that make you sound less of a native so i suggest u to focus more on speaking. but great accent overall!!
Hi
I am indonesian
I wouldn't say it's faking, i can only say that for the past (almost 1 year) i have been mixing several accents.
If your wonderin what accents that i have been mixing, i can't tell for sure, cause some people may say "no, it's not that accent" and some people also say "yes, that sounded like that accent". So if u want to know, we can talk on a vc someday.
Hmm, i never know that. You are the first person actually, but thank you
judge
you sound north korean
never heard a north korean before, but i'll take that as a compliment
you should go to North Korea
north korea is bad tho
they eat dogs

plus they tryna nuke some places and are at a stand off with the good korea
aka south korea
@grim urchin and i wouldnt listen to ned lol
in north korea only the military and special people can use cars

i dont understand accents
pls explain
?
What exactly is it that you need an explanation of? /lh
how to identify accents

Ohh okay
Hmm any specific?
No
I just wanted to know how to identify various accents
Oh okay, I’ll try my best to help 🖤
that's why i actually don't :v
How long should my sample be?
(Native Americans only)
Do you find this voice natural enough? (This is not my voice)
i've listened to too many bot sounds, so i can tell that it's not too natural if you listen carefully, but it is quite natural and sounds more like those "How it's made" videos
Sounds like a bot to me
hello
u can send voice recording of yourself speaking
