its really good
Awww. Thank you @rancid wasp and @random gate ☺️
Yes, very authentic. I won't put it any closer than North American, as it's subtle between West Coast and Canadian. Probably also because you can emulate a british pronunciation on your words. It's very very good.
Can anyone send any paragraph so I can record an audio while reading it? After reading it I would like to send it to the same person in private to judge my accent if its possible.
the american accent is good but british accent needs some work
@muted heath
Can you give me something to read too I'll send it to you in dm so you tell me what you think about it
check ur dm
hey everybody. 👋
it's been a while since I uploaded a judge-my-accent voice record, your feedback is always valuable to me, thanks in advance.
@river lance bro it's really good.
What did you do to have this pronunciation?
Hi Clare. Good overall accent. You can pronounce 'th' as i heard it within words, but on 2 words it was a bit of a 'd' sound when it occurred at the start.
I'm not sure if the name of the person. It sounded like "Athan" . If it was "Ethan", then you need to change the sound of the first letter from
To
.
@muted heath @sick ledge Thanks a lot for the feedback 🥹
I see, yeah right I noticed my "Ethan" sounded like "Athan", thank you very much, I appreciate your help, and for the "th" sound, I can't help it 😂, I pronounce it similar to the "d" sound when I speak fast.
thanks bro, I appreciate you. 🤍
I simply mimic, but I pay close attention to the details as much as I can.
when I watch a youtube video, or a movie, I try to repeat what the speaker said often.
give me a page to read
I'll try to rectify my "th" sound though.
Hi, Guys! Are there any particular tools or websites that help us improve our pronunciation?
What a great feedback. Mind sharing where I can find similar charts to those you have provided?
I placed the site under the picture. It has the sound also, so you can click on them.
When you use charts like this, it's best to know that some of the IPA symbols dictionaries use in slashes have very different sounds as actual phonetic IPA symbols compared to what we use in real life
For example "food" will be written /fu:d/ in 90% of dictionaries that use IPA
But no native uses the vowel [u] in "food"
For the majority of natives it's really very different to [u:], and if you use the sound you hear from http://www.ipachart.com when you press the u button, it's not going to sound natural
Similar story for many other symbols (also dependent on dialect)
IPA like /fu:d/ in dictionaries only becomes useful when you've already learned to make whatever sound /u:/ represents in the dialect you're learning
Thanks
Hi. Can you judge my accent I know I am just a beginner but I need it for my current job.
Ty so much
I pressed the sound until i found the sound i was hearing and the sound i believed was used. I did not choose the written form. I listened to a bunch of the sounds and u: does sound like how i pronounce food, or is the closest sound at least. I agree that the sounds generally are all very strange on their own, like some "Mr Monopoly" character getting punched in the stomach.
I extend my condolences to Mr. Monopoly, who clearly has been through an awful lot
(there's a very good but quite long video on this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtnlGH055TA, talking about (south-eastern) British English but with plenty of points that apply generally)
The response to what you said is more or less the 1st minute of my rec, the rest is there if anyone wants more context/explanation
I kept raising my finger to type but then there was more. My poor mind is not used to such long strings of words being spoken.
I believe i know what you are saying. I agree within my mind that there differences when pronouncing 'o' in gold or goat (or when pronouncing any word). I also however listened to your initial example and while you were trying to say the 'official' sound of 'o' in food did but sound that way, i did heard it that way as you spoke it. I also believe i provide that sound also. I therefore believe the sounds are beneficial when learning a word.
However your continuing message, I believe is correct also, to the point I have in mind, in that there are differences when used in words. My understanding of the differences is that each sound has a base starting point, and this is then modified at its beginning and at its end by adjacent sounds within the word being spoken. Without this modification, the (in use/accented) pronunciation of the whole word can go bad. The modification is caused by the transition of mouth/muscle from one sound to the next, and this produces the modified full pronunciation of a word.
Why do irl people have trouble understanding my English?
I often have to repeat, and they ironically understand better when I use a strong Hong Kong accent...
I don't know how to explain this, but they're used to saying things in that kind of way, so they understand it when you say it with a strong accent. The same thing happens here; I have to intentionally mispronounce words so the person in front of me understands, either because they're not used to hearing it said correctly or they're just not used to it
I'm in the UK though...
then i have no idea what the fuck is wrong with those people 😭
oh
then maybe your english is just not super understandable
send a record sometime
your accent is great but at 9 seconds it becomes hard to understand because you're speaking too fast and the words sound jumbled
just slow down a little, otherwise you sound great
no
Dang it
You have a Scottish accent
yes
😂
Can someone tell me 1-100% my progress with the american accent?
I do some medical stuff for a hobby, so that's why it's a bit nerdy
I don't know if this is still good "accent wise", I'm tryna do a southern Oklahoma accent. Please tell me how bad it is, or how hard to understand it is. I promise I won't get mad y'all
Definitely American accent. Definitely not English accent.
I'm my mind, i would say you are getting what you want. It's mid us for sure.
Hi
Well yeah, I don't like tea
I'm more into coke
iykwim
not bad, it's good 👍
Judge my accent
You have an accent. (Sorry, I'm starting to adjust my opinion on what an accent is or what one is supposed to say to such a question). It's not English and it's not really north American in my opinion. I placed it according to accents i have heard, close to South Pacific islands - New Zealand ( less the specific sounds of fushnchup etc) all the way to Hawaii. Why that is so with your voice, I do not know. Perhaps you have an Asian/Pacific mother language. I'm frequently known to be way off... But perhaps you can enlighten me for future reference with other folks.
The are a few words that are hard to understand, but it's just pronunciation, not necessarily the accent.
That has s north American accent to it. Clear and passible.
hi
While it is unlikely that unethical
behavior can ever be removed from the workplace
"While it is unlikely that unethical
behavior can ever be removed from the workplace" what does it mean correctly?
i cant find the main idea
in the sentence
what's the context?
we found it
Guys, good afternoon/evening/morning. I did a test to check my level of English and it's pretty good, C1. But there's one aspect at fault, my speaking, it isn't exactly bad, more like it's understandable, although it sounds like the words blend to each other, it wasn't that necessary for me to develop a perfect speaking. This is probably because i didn't have anyone to practice this aspect of my english with, would a routine consisting of reading books out loud, one or more times a day, be good?
Judge my accent
Good American accent
Ireland
yes I am
I think improving your pronunciation is better than copying an accent
yeah but fake accents are very weird sounding to an average English speaker
unless you live in the country
for quite a long time
if my friends who learned English started using a big American accent I would find it very hard to talk them
I wouldn't say that the accents I've heard are fake, but I've heard many accents that were hard to decipher, and I still remember someone said to me "you're a native speaker so you should be able to understand them"
most English speakers would think someone's natural accent with good pronunciation sounds better than a good fake accent
do the conor mcgregor accent 🔥
even if the fake accent is good it's quite weird
Any accent is good as long as it's easy to understand. I find it sad if people try to perfect it because I think accents are very beautiful and English has leeway for that, but its less appreciated for valid reasons most of the time
(aside from fake ones..as y'all mentioned)
any accent not acquired from living in the country a long time I would consider fake
a lot Dutch people try learn English with an American accent
of*
Fair enough
@rancid rain wanna judge my accent?
yeah
Vocaroo is a quick and easy way to share voice messages over the interwebs.
here you go buddy
ignore the slim shady voice thingy that i did i was talking about something
okay
take your time
there are generally agreed upon pronunciation rules, natural accents are really unique and pretty imo
hearing someone speak English with an accent they are trying to learn is kind of like hearing an AI speak, even if it has good pronunciation
fake irish accents sound horrible
water pronounced properly has no global stop
and no drawl
glottal *
Well if you are copying an accent it's stereotypical
quite good American accent
it does sound kind of nasally but that's fine
I don't think it's an issue
um
only general thing about
English learners copying American accents
but it's a good American accent
i can rap his songs
not all of them but a good chunk of them
word for word
it does help with fluidity when speaking yk
thanks for the feedback btw 🥰
My accent isn't close to British or Australian, sounds like an american. But because i didn't spoke it repeatedly and got used to it, some of the words seem to not be understantable. Although if i recreate a strong accent, like a russian one it becomes a little bit easier.
Ty, i'll try to gather some courage to enter a vc and train it
It doesn't need judging. And it's fine English.
If you were in Cleveland, i'd assume you were American.
Reading aloud and conversing are two different mental skills. Reading will let you practice words the you see and make the corresponding sounds translating from memory into your native mind, but conversing requires pulling together words and grammatical rules from your memory that are correct translations of what you want to say from your native thinking mind. Both are skills you need to perfect but reading aloud will not get you the same practice you need to converse. This will only happen if you converse with others.
You can of course read a question from a book, and then say the answer aloud, as long as you don't read any part of your answer. Open questions that require you to provide a little speech and needing to think as you talk are ideal. One sentence answers to a particular grammar rule are not ideal. (A person listening ideally gives feedback in the way of conversation)
Conversing also though requires listening. You need to listen to people talking so that you can translate on the fly and understand quickly what is being said. Often this is well practiced because it's easy to find things to listen to, but speaking about topics that you are given is harder to do.
While I'm at it, writing is the 4th mental skill. Many people can read a language better than they can write it, because the writing is usually ignored over reading. People who self teach and learn by themself tend to be able to read first, listen, and then speak and write. Formal education ensures all 4 areas are covered together so it's evenly learned.
Most English accents are usa+native, uk+native, aus+native, nz+native, sa+native. One could say anyone who speaks English will have one of the 4 primary sounds obvious in their voice and that will depend on the teachers that you learn English from. Some countries will teach one accent prominent over another, Japan/Korea tend to the a usa accent, and Northern European countries tend towards ukrp accents. If you end up learning by living in usa/uk/aus etc then you will have that accent and people from other parts of the world will say oh i hear ..., but within those countries, the natives will hear your underlying accent. Some native accents are obvious usually where large numbers if people come from a particular region. But for people from countries where a listener rarely hears anyone, they may know there is an underlying accent but won't know what it is.
Long residency in an English speaking country will give the best results for a 'natural native' English accent, but many people will hold the original accent their whole life. Sure, listen and learn your preferred usa/uk accent, but don't get upset that people (in that country) still know you are from somewhere else based on your original accent. For the billions of people outside of usa/uk who also speak English as a second language, they will more than likely think you have a great usa/uk accent and wouldn't be able to differentiate it from a native. Be proud of where you come from. Your accent will be a conversation starter, that will help you through your life when you meet new people and are lost for words.
Ty for the explanation and advices.
I agree a lot with the last thing u said, i learned it by myself and if i hadn't i'd probably never know a single word in English, there is no need for it here, so even though i did manage to learn it i couldn't develop it to its fullest because of the lack of stimulus, i actually think i never spoke in English with anyone besides myself xD
The are plenty of voice rooms here to sit in and random chat with people. Give it a go.
I'll give it a try, xD
Yes
What a meaning of "Beat out of" ?
can you give some more context?
maybe the full sentence
some people say "beat the h#ll out of someone" which means "beat someone up so strongly that it hurts a lot"
or "beat the sh#t out of someone" which is more vulgar

Yes. All of your clips are perfect imitations of the anime voices you are copying, right down to the subtle Japanese undertones of the voice actors providing the English soundtracks.
You perfect the copy of the voices so well. The actual english speakers of the anime are Japanese with Their English being excellent but still tainted with a little native accent. You pick this up from them.
in all your voices
yes for sure, but you do the voices well regardless
i can just imagine the anime with your voices]
generally
im not a super fan. if one appears occasionally on tv, i may watch it. my memory is poor for titles
Why can't I share audio here?
I see
i had actually thought it would be way worse when i initially intended to play that
sick from black clover i think ?
A talent that deserves to be buried and stoned
This is really impressive! I don't know what your first language is or how long you've been studying English but you have very very good and clear pronunciation with just a hint of an accent but I think if I met you in person I'd just think it was an accent (an English one) from somewhere else in the world.
You also did a great job with the acting in your voice, you should look into voice acting 🤣
Ty bro, i mean i don't usually focus on the accent but i tried and i'm glad u like it🤣
bro thinks he's homelander 💀
How's it going?!
10/10, I can understand everything
What did the guy send?

here's what I said: /ä/* /ɑ/ father palm not wasp cot lot hot car cigar
*the typical way for me to pronounce a in Polish, my native language. Added for contrast.

Can I read this and send the record here? I wanna see my improvement 🙈
sure, if you wish
Vocaroo is a quick and easy way to share voice messages over the interwebs.
Can anyone give me feedback on my American accent attempt?
am not knowledgeable about accents so i think i cant, but i can say i like your voice for some reason lol
I think at this stage you are speaking clearly, and its understandable. It is a little difficult to say at this stage if you are swaying either towards a British or a North American style accent. This may have to do with the slower speed and care to which you are applying to your speech.
Thank you. I just sent it. Sorry if my voice is annoying. I'll delete the record after I get some corrections (like stress, or words that needs to be accentuated in sentences) I need 🙏
The following words were slightly off in their pronunciation. Severely, Contribute, thought, devote, live, Brown, cash, rick-rack. Reading aloud can cause occasional pronounciation issues, so don't be concerned. You did well with everything else. Maybe take a little longer of a pause at the end of each sentence and at commas, to take a breath.
And excuse
I wonder how my accent sounds like to others, any words will be appreciated.
It's was generally well spoken. I think one of your vowels was stretched or held a little longer then i would think they need to be, book was where i heard it most. You: boo-k, perhaps: buk
thank you peo
Wow that you so much for your corrections🔥
I got two questions that I've been curious about it too. Overall, is it still understandable? And do you think my accent is weird?
when you speak by yourself you sound more naturally
well about your accent while you're reading. you sound like you don't know what you're reading about or you don't know how to pronounce it right, with the right intonation. what I mean is it sounds like you read just some words as if it's not sentence.
pronunciation of words overall is good
hmm I can see you tryna learn american english I have a resource that prolly might help you improve your pronunciation

Wow that's so true. Yes, I just compared the way I read and how native read like in the link you shared
How can you know lol
Thank you. I needed this
you're welcome
Reading aloud will always sound strange. Even i was finding it hard to do. It's because you try and read exactly to be perfect, and it makes a person nervous. I tried and was misreading words, skipping words, and then i would get even worse. You're introduction was perfect, that part where you just spoke your mind and introduced that you found the passage to read. This was natural and shows the difference between just speaking and reading aloud. I am slightly better at reading aloud when people are not following the text, as it can hide the inconsistencies, therefore less nervousness.
@somber vault
I get it. Thank you peo for answering my questions again. Actually at my current level of English, being understood by others would be more important than being perfect.
@muted heath https://vocaroo.com/1nNZmXwOhqwS a friend of mine said i sound like im from the netherlands 💀

I'm trying to sounds more brits but I think the problem here is my diaphragm and pronunciation HAHAHAHA
hope no brits peps will be offended with the audio I sent🥹
are you from india?
You sound like someone from East London trying to whisper Shakespeare. It wasn't to the end of the first listening that I could understand what I was hearing. The second time after adjusting my ears for the voice and content, I was able to follow the passage a little more.
Definitely got your brits voice there but using Shakespeare is a little overboard.
Egyptian?
actually that's my entry for my school activity, HAHAHAHA.
Nope, I'm from Philippines
very good
Thanks, ms. @muted heath

"In the first age, in the first battle, when the shadows first lengthened, one stood. Burned by the embers of Armageddon, his soul blistered by the fires of Hell and tainted beyond ascension, he chose the path of perpetual torment. In his ravenous hatred he found no peace; and with boiling blood he scoured the Umbral Plains seeking vengeance against the dark lords who had wronged him. He wore the crown of the Night Sentinels, and those that tasted the bile of his sword named him... the Doom Slayer." corny as shit but i feel like your voice is perfect for this

How do i know if this word should be pronounced with a T or a D sound, because when you use Google translator and type "about" the T is present but when you type "about it" the T is flap, so what's the key secret here to remember the correct usage of both sounds.
It's a flap in the 2nd phrase because it's been put between 2 vowels
T & D become flapped when they're between vowels (but this effect is blocked if there's rising syllable stress within the word at that point)
None of those 3 ts would be flapped no
Bc of this
It would be very difficult to make them flaps
Np
The thing to watch for is that stress matters in this way
So e.g. you cannot flap the t in "eternal", "hotel", "rotation"
"atom" yes, but "atomic" no
Bc in these words, the syllable before the t is unstressed, and then the stress rises. eTERnal, hoTEL, roTAtion, aTOmic. That prevents the flap
Hello, are u japanese?🥹
If yes, I have some questions to ask
East Australian
Is this the only thing you can say with this accent?
Nope
For the record i didn't realize this was a different accent 😭
Better than what I was doing before ig?

@muted heath tips on how to relax when speaking irl?
(i got nervous today in front a friend of mine and sounded like those rich spoiled egyptian girls here basically was going too hard on the sounds in every single word)
lets see
I think peo can give you a full rundown on how to fix this entire thing i can say some stuff but im not sure any of it will help
Think... what would Matthew say?
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
Now if that doesnt make you relax, I don't know what else you could do.
Righttt
Peo is just fucking awesome man

I'm not sure if this will help, but if you see the symbols for sound, at least you have a sound reference.
thank u
I've gone to bed.🛏️
Good to know that my bloodline will likely continue lol,
I'm not for europe and I've always been in love with the british accent, now when I think of it I can recall it likely started from the girl actor in Harry Potter
You've any resources for british
I'm kind of looking for those who speak it to learn and practice with, its okay
There are many different British accents. Here is a video briefly but broadly covering the accents of England: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mU8uenMGt_o&ab_channel=DaveHuxtable . This doesn't include Welsh, Scottish, or Northern Irish accents. Hope this helps you find something more precise.
Polyglot and language coach Dave Huxtable takes a tour of the English accents of England, taking a look at the most interesting and iconic accents across the country and the phonetic features that make then stand out.
If you like this look at contemporary accents, you'll love @simonroper9218 's look at London Accents through history, which is o...
I'll check it out, though I'm looking for the standard one which I came to learn it's called also as the Received Pronounciation
Hm
well if you wanna gain an actual RP accent, you might have to drop your Rs like the words serve and far from this audio
you might have to pronounce the words as suhf and fah
bo'er ah' wa'er
Example 87733839292 of why we shouldn't try to use English for phonetic transcriptions
😍👌
@muted heath I really need some one to walk me through some sounds when speaking and I thought you're the perfect person for that.
list some words you are having trouble with
no i mean i wanna be fluent in english i pronounce most of the words wrong so im thinking if u can help me become faster in talking and shi
if u can join a vc w me and check whats worng w my accent
i got egyptian accent 😭
@muted heath ^^
Almost everyone's speech is affect by their native tongue. There is nothing wrong with this happening. It is not easy to completely remove a base accent. Sometimes it's not about the scent, but just how you have learned a word. If you post a recording of a short passage here, people can help by identifying some of the sound you may be making incorrectly, or at least can improve on. For they most part, people speaking here who comes from Egypt generally are pretty well understood and the promising is good. If this is not the case with you, then the week be plenty of people here to help you with this.
@river lance
Well tysm I agree tho but I got social anxiety so can we do it in a private room or sum
I thought you said your English it self is bad
Not when you're reading
I don't see it tbh
Idk why you even have the beginner role
Should be advanced

THANK YOOOOU

Vocaroo is a quick and easy way to share voice messages over the interwebs.
did this recording yesterday, do i sound like i'm talking in the sims language at the start💀💀💀
"city" was very american for me
it all gives me chinese-american mixed vibes
very clear
very clear, i cant even tell which accent it was, not british, certainly
your pronunciation is very clear, good, and the flow of what you said in that second recording was also very natural
thanks for feedback
Why we chatting when it’s a #🗒|pronunciation
like the literal purpose of this sever to improve our accents and vocabulary.
To my shay, sounds really good, i didnt catch few words but not bcs pronunciation was bad, maybe you talk a little shy or "to yourself" or maybe its just a mic quality, overall good accent, very american-ish
To me*
why do you sound like nogla😭
You mean THAT guy? He sounds like he ate something hot and talk at the same time 💀
All those years of practice to sound like IRISH men
I guess my next groceries gonna be potatos and whiskey
nice beard
1-10 how native-ish does this sound?
I haven't listened to it but im gonna say 8
Bro sounds like the Jewish snitch on the news papers😂. Your confidence in admirable👏🏻🙂.
hi
what
8/10
didn't know you joined this server as well damn
putting your pronunciation against a grader your doing quite great only thing you can improve is on is "samsung" which is pronounced in IPA from as sæmˌsəŋ while you said sænd sən as well as "What" and "Where"
feel free to try to hit that 100% accuracy if you want to give it another shot 🙂
about a 7/10.. You had a lot of good fluent runs but there were a lot of times where you fumbled back to your og accent. (where the accent fainted china, first, only, years, actor, "weren't a lot of foreigners") ( the ending was very good, when you spoke the questions was very clear too )
A late response from me, At the beginning I thought you sound like other brazilians I have heard speaking English, but thought I cant hear UK, nor North American, but at the end I could hear the British influence. The overall sound though is mild British, and I would say you would fit in well with Australia pronunciation wise.
Your English is clear and completely understandable. You do pronounce some words unlike native speakers, but it is still ok, it just indicates you are still influenced by your own mother language. I would say its predominantly, "o"s and "ou"s that stand out in all words with these in them. Also the "th" sounds more like "d" in all the cases I could hear.🥳

feel free to judge
You sound american
Hi guys ❤️
9/10
i like this
clear
the sound of the voice is quite unusual, but thats not really affecting anything, so its fine
no, it's great, pretty good and nice accent
You have a fine Canadian accent forming. You speak English very well. Just keep talking. Don't be concerned with 'accent'. You are fine.
Try reducing your frequency/pitch to less than 15khz. The mosquito accent is probably not best used.
it sounds like typical american girl speaking english. sounds fine to me.
hm you don't really sound polish, saying that as native polish myself
it is american indeed
Can someone judge my account? (I actually didn't mean account, I meant "accent" as black cat pointed out) I feel like wanting to get some easy praise because I feel like life is getting a bit difficult right now
you mean accent?
you can post some recording here and hopefully people will comment on that
Ys it's auto correct on my keyboard. I misspelled the word and then my keyboard thought "why stopping there" and proceeded to completely misinterpret the word.
i see, feel free to post some recording anytime you want of course
I corrected my initial message, do you like how I did it?
maybe just talk about some random topic or pick random wikipedia article and read it aloud
its perfect
I am too anxious to do that. I need some hero to choose for me

By the way, could you take a swift look at my text in proofreading-chat?
am not a hero but u can just read that aloud if u wanna

sure, gimme a sec

I am too abashed to listen to my own voice 😳
I feel this is getting awkward
very clear, i liked it
🙂
"the" was not perfect but i myself do not do that in a fully correct way so i get this
by saying "it gave me british vibes" i meant "it sounded a little bit like some british accent"
Oh no 😱
Can native speakers clarify if the soft palate is always closed in speaking except when making n,m or ng sound. Like u never exhale even a bit from nose cus I’m facing difficulty in it.
What do you mean by this? I just listened to it myself and I think it was quite good also considering how bad the audio quality is.
i did not mean it was bad, it was not, i just feel as if it, idk, lacked something, this is just my tiny feeling
not sure about that so you can just ignore that, dont worry
It lacked a feeling 💀
lmao not this way
Should I try again then?
well is not good enough
definitely good enough
I am going for sublime and superb
good enough is definitely not good enough, it has to be perfect
throughout all my times when i talked in english there has not been a single time i spoke flawlessly through the entire conversation, so, maybe dont push yourself too hard, good luck, anyway
but
who else would like to judge this accent?
Your voice reminds me of someone, but it's very good! i can hear you very clearly
it’s really good!!!
i think the reason why it lacked something is simply because he's not fluent enough, he kinda sounds as if he's careful not to pronounce anything wrong, just train up the speed and he'll sound literally like a native in no time
can i speak too ?
Waww i like the voicee
thank you 💀
Well if most, if not everybody, judges my accent to be: at least better than bad; then the pinned task has been accomplished but this means that there are more free points to get so shouldn't I try again? What should I say? Who would like to judge?
So wouldn't anybody else want to judge my accent?
I wish I could but honestly your accent is so good that I don't know how to comment😭
The only advice I can give is to keep training up your talking speed and fluency
There's not much to say yeah. It's almost completely native-sounding and very close to my own accent :). There are only a few things:
- "commonly" has the vowel of "lot", not the vowel of "strut" (both times)
- "Near" sounded like "nyear"; the word should start the same as "nick", and then you either just make the vowel longer or you glide it to schwa
- "It is" definitely was a d
The last 2 points are very minor and probably wouldn't be noticed. Overall you go quite slowly and pause somewhat frequently but plenty of natives read less smoothly than that, so it's up to you how bothered you are there lol
It's a terrible recording from a year ago but I'm kinda curious how you guys think about my first ever British accent attempt (yes this is a British imitation 😭)
It's completely understandable, so no problem there
It's just, aside from successfully avoiding the -r, it's not very British
sorry :/
In general though, ignoring Britishness, you might want to make sure you keep the a sound of words like "had" different from words like "head". Where you said "haven't had the advantages that you've had", it came out more like "haven't head the advantages thet you've hat"
Also weak form "that"
In both of those places, "that" is most naturally said with schwa (the weak vowel in about, potato, album...) instead of rhyming with "hat"
(btw "advantages" ends like "bridges", not like "ages", English moment)
I'll keep these in mind🫡 thank you for the comments
It's ok honestly I don't find it any close to British either lmao, I was still on my first month of actually trying to improve my accent and pronunciation
No buts
It was very nice. Very clear. Well spoken. British accented. A tiny bit slow, but fine considering you are going for a perfect speech.
Brooooo
Super good
I'm dyslexic, I can't read
I thought that the near thing was correct, where it sounded like njyear
Would anyone else like to judge my accent? Perhaps I could say something else?
Why does no one want to judge my accent? Is it really that bad😞
Hello, I’m new to the server. It would be appreciated if anyone could judge this : )
Very clear! Easy to understand.
That's incredibly good - I can tell that you have learned from UK people, especially when you said 'seven thousand five hundred BC' instead of 'seventy-five hundred BC'
I think I would have said that had it been about money. We do do that in Denmark. Especially with numbers under fifty thousand
Have at it
Dogs, descendants of ancient wolves domesticated thousands of years ago, have evolved alongside humans through a remarkable process of selective breeding. Their genetic diversity spans an array of shapes, sizes, and temperaments, resulting in a multitude of breeds with distinct physical qualities.
The paragraph I read ^
I just realised I’ve mispronounced “diversity”. And the intonation is horrible overall.
Please let me know if you find more mistakes.
how to send voice message?
Click the microphone button

Thanx for giving your valuable time 👍
You need discord in your phone, in the aplication you can record a voice message and send it here.

why is your username no?
Hey.. may i ask to make this ? A voice note with the text in the background?
I sent the voice message on instagram, so I screen recorded it and cropped the video after that
I see. Thanks for sharing the tips
I just dropped my first ep and I wonder whether I sound American or not. Anyway, lemme know you guys think about the music and the accent. Thanks!

Thanks. I will look into it

You have to be on mobile to send a voice message! ^^
i don't judge anyone by their voice!
I think you can just use the voice recorder in your phone, and later simply copy-paste here the text you were reading in that recording. Or maybe type it as you said it in the recording. This would mean you send the recording and the text separately, but I think this is not what you wanted. So, if you can get some screen recorder app, or you have it built-in on your phone, you could type that text into some note app and then screen record it, while you speak. Then this would mean the screen recorder records the screen and the voice at the same time, which would result in having one video, similar to how @arctic inlet had it
Wow that gave me an idea!! Thanks. Will try it soon. Use voice note in the discord is pretty frustrating
you can ping me once you poste it, if you want, i don't always view this channel so maybe id see then
Could somebody please judge my accent (again)??? 😭🙏 But also choose a text to say??
Very well said. I noticed only a couple of words which are problematic, such as 'leads' which you pronounced like 'lids', and 'completely' you seemed to struggle with. Overall, I'm impressed with your pronounciation.
Very good accent. It's almost like you're really a goat.
The word 'effective' isn't quite right, but I understood from context what was said.
When you said "small talk gets friendships started", it sounded like you said "gats" instead of "gets", so I would tweak that.
Later, you pronounced "important" in a way that was a little difficult to understand, so I would also work on that pronounciation. Remember, you can practice tricky words by breaking them down phonetically or by their syllables.
"Small talk is ..." something? I actually couldn't tell what word followed 'is'. It sounded like 'blizin'.
You said "about common interest", but you probably meant either "about a common interest" or "about common interests".
Again, overall, I'm impressed.
You pronounced diversity find. You can pronounce the initial part like you did or like 'die'-versity. Possibly a dialectal thing, but either is perfectly valid.
Great stuff, BTW.
i have a theory
"Small talk is..."
the "blizin" like word might have been supposed to be "pleasant"
it does not sound like pleasant, of course, but if i somehow consider the context and that someone might just confuse the sounds inside of this word, then thats possible
I somehow feel so happy of my guess, lol. Maybe because I've been playing it few times now and trying to figure this one out
I can speak rather fluently by myself at times, but whenever I talk to someone else my English is so damn broken even though it’s my second month in the UK and I’m speaking English for like 80-85% of the time. What should I do to solve this?
maybe it is not broken and the only person who thinks it is, is you
nah seriously it’s way worse
someone told you that, then?
no but it’s obviously worse
ah i see, maybe just stress and stuff, dont worry, i also often forget a lot or mess up stuff cuz am so, hm, unorganized when i speak
it feels as if i suddenly forgot how to pronounce every english sound and i keep using sounds in my native language to replace it instead no matter how hard i try
and when I try to force an American accent in front of people their response is always “huh?”
ah i see, guess i’ll have to use much more time to get used to speaking the language
i have no idea honestly, but i think you are just stressed, more or less, and you get confused
ah okay
am thinking about this and ive no other idea, like you know how to speak and thats undeniable, but you kinda get messy, it sounds as if the explanation was in your head
like, the stress, would be the explanation
Thank you very much! I will look into how to pronounce those words correctly. I have been interacting with a friend from the UK and I guess I got it from him when it comes to words that contains t, like impor'an, comple'ely, bri'ish, wa'er, etc... but I will try to get back to the t sounds.. cuz I know what my friend says is used in informal communication
Do u know some apps that can be installed on phone that I can look into to practice pronunciation?
Yes that's right. I tried to say pleasant
is this real
I know one
Oh, that's fair. I'm British myself, so to me it's normal to avoid 't' in some works, but I'm not sure that's quite the issue I felt I picked up on.
Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any such apps.
you mean biological?
jokes on you, I grew up without a father
well, I do have a step dad
Just a tip for you all:
If you're struggling to pronounce a word clearly, simply break it down into its syllables. So, 'completely' is comprised of 3 syllables, com-ple-[te]ly, where the letters within the brackets are not pronounced in British English or some of our accents.
But, you can break it down further. Isolate specific parts which you struggle with. Get phonetic, if you need to. Really slow down when you pronounce tricky parts, until you've isolated the sounds and mouth movements you find difficult. Then practice.
i have a tiny tip too, silly, but it works for people who happen to have nasal speech or partially blocked nose: before speaking/pronouncing take a deep breath but through your mouth, this allows the sound to come out of throat, and fixes nasality
Fuck

Some things speak like that? I might be missing some context here, but I found it a little tricky to understand. Also, I think I heard Minecraft. 😆 Were you knocking down blocks of soil? 😛
Fuck my English is shi literally
Why no one understands me
"So eventually, some things speak like that... something as... is to speak like that... isn't it... [something] action."
That's what I caught, which is quite a lot. I don't think your English is s**t. 🙂
You might be confusing something with someone. The word 'someone' is for an unspecified person.
I feel your pain
Is there something like the "... quick brown fox ..." sentence but for phonemes instead of letters of the alphabet?
If you search up English pangrams it’s pretty much what you’re lookin for 👌
*phonetic pangrams
No problem doom lookin man ✨✨
The beige hue on the waters of the loch impressed all, including the French queen, before she heard that symphony again, just as young Arthur wanted.
Go on, judge
You woulda convinced me tbh, only thing I’d change would be if you’re going for an American accent we just say loch like lock other than that you sound like a native 👌👌

Hi fellows. I have recorded myself reading a few passages from a novel called Animal Farm by George Orwell, and I would like you to judge my accent and to provide feedbacks on it. Thanks in advance.
