Oh, I didn't know that.
Not sure if I am the right person to answer that but as far I know you can use both words.
Most of time only and just are interchangeable. "Just" can mean simply, exactly or very recent and "only" can mean simply or no one or nothing besides.
These both get across the same point and are valid. The only difference between the two is that the first utilizes the subjunctive mood and the other doesn't. The subjunctive mood is for the most part optional in English. I don't agree with Tracks saying that's the first is grammatically incorrect.
It depends on what you're trying to say. "Just follow me" means "Follow me and don't do anything else." The other means "Follow me and only me. Don't follow someone else."
"Just" is what you'd use in most contexts. "Only" is used only when you want to stress one specific thing
is that an english coursebook ?
hey is it alright if i say : you are off payroll
this guy said you are off payroll effectiveness
so what difference does it make
Can you correct this sentence if there's something else mistake. " would you mind get my phone on the table and give it to me, please or is there something more better stracture of this type sentence there?
The structure is fine, you just need to change the words. "Would you mind getting my phone on the table and giving it to me, please"
Well, I can understand the sentence but you did a mistake.
The guy/boy said: (....................)
I'm not really sure what "off payroll effectiveness" would mean. To be off payroll means that you're not being paid through a payroll but by some other means. I'm not sure what "effectiveness" would mean here. Maybe more context would help, but this seems very specific, perhaps to a particular workplace
Hi just listened to podcast and she say the phrase "who's cut the cheese " is this phrase really mean who's farting?
hahaha, yes it does. It's not used very often, at least not these days, but you might hear it in movies and so on.
also it's "Who cut the cheese?"
Oh, i see so im gonna cutinued my listening to that podcast she really teach me alot hahah
Does my use of word CONTINUED is correct or should i say continues ?
"I'm going to (gonna) continue listening to that podcast. She really teaches me a lot."
You speak spanish right?
I believe it's the same there like: "Voy a cotinuar" "continuar" is the infintive, and the infinitive of a verb in English always takes the form "to continue"
Also i want you to check this essay of my nephew that i wrote if there is something misused of words and grammar,
***I remember when i was sleeping on the bed in the afternoon when i found my self dreaming something about food that i love to eat, which is Oreo. IN my dream i was asking my mother to buy me Oreo because I am hungry and i like that food so much then for a while ago i just realized that i was dreaming so i woke up and get up to bed and after that i was shocked when my mother went back home because she had brought my favorite food OREO THAT she bought at the store. I thought i was still dreaming but i'm not, therefore i tell it to my mother and she laughed to my story while i am sitting on the chair eating my favorite OREO.
No i don't speak spanish i am just trying to learning spanish this time haha
Hello everyone. Can someone help me?
Guys, when should I say I'm off and I'm out?, gimme some examples 🙏
C
"tomorrow" suggests that the first verb probably needs to be a future, so that leaves B & C. The "nervous" part is probably a current feeling, so you need the second verb to be present. From this, you get the most likely answer.
when you're leaving a party and want to say bye
OK. Thank you!
I don't really know if this is the right place to ask this, but do tell me if it is not allowed.
I want to know what level I am at. (my writing skills.) And this is the only written piece I have with me right now. (It's a chapter of a story.) So, if someone can give a feedback on it, then it will help.
(warning: it has a bit gory content in the end.)

Happiness—everyone had a different meaning of happiness, and we had our own ways to pursue and gain this feeling. When I thought I attained the happiness I wanted, why did I start to feel… weird? I looked at Kinoshita Minori, my first love, and my heart fluttered as usual. Wearing a pleated skirt...
Hi, guys do you think this question is correct
"Is butterfly is amphibian?
Even i use IS repeatedly
Ahh!! I see THANK U
👍
How about this if someone ask you if you eat already
Your response must be **YES I DID OR YES, I EAT ALREADY?
Sorry i have a lot to ask huhu
It's alright.
😄
I think it should be 'Yes, I did.'
Thanks for this, now i'm certain what to say when someone ask me haha
You can also answer: "Yes, I already ate"
But, I couldn’t, as Minori’s hands grabbing my shoulder had strength beyond I could even imagine.
How should I correct this sentence?
can anyone help me
Hi guys, I was watching a moving today, there was a line in the movie I found odd: 'so the day does not come when you children are waving at a viewing stand.'
Shouldn't it be 'so they day WON'T come when....'?
still no answer 😄
are Minori's hands grabbing their shoulder with more strength than they could imagine?
I kinda don't know what's being described
But, I couldn’t, as Minori’s hands grabbed my shoulder with strength beyond what I could even imagine."
yeah she is a human but she easily breaks his shoulder after this.
thanks this works
Yes, what is it?
I don't even really understand what this sentence is trying to say. I suspect it's something quite specific to the film. But in general, a lot of times future actions can be described using the present / present continuous. Like "I'm coming at 2 o'clock"
I want to eat
Is want a transitive verb ?
Yes, it is in the vast majority of circumstances
Ok thanks the doctor adviced me to exercise is advice a ditransitive ?
a di transitive?
Like has direct and indirect objects ?
Hi, thanks for the reply, The movie is batman vs superman, lex luthor was saying something like 'My dad was born in East Germany, he used to wave daises at tyrants', then they started discussing why they needed Kryptonite weapons because Lex didn't want to be oppressed by Supserman. Then he said some thing like 'we need Kryptonite weapons so the day does not come when you children are waving at a viewing stand.'

I'd recommend using the website I've linked. It usually provides information about its "transitivity" (I'm not sure if that's the word I should be using for this lol)
Although I'm not too adept at answering questions about these finer points of grammar
God how I forgot how much I hated this movie lol. But yeah, the present tense can be used to describe future situations in particular cases when the context has already made is clear that one is talking about the future. In this context it doesn't sound super wrong, but even I would have probably said "when your children will be waving," but I wouldn't have even noticed his use of the present tense if it wasn't pointed out to me.
Oh I’m not questioning that part, I’m thinking maybe the sentence should be like ‘so the day WON’T come when your children are waving……’
He said ‘so the day DOESN’T come…..’
Sorry for the confusion 😆 @sudden parrot
oh, I see, but the same logic applies. The present tense and the future are applicable here
no, what I think is that, Lex is not assuring that the day will come, he is just saying that if it will, they needn't be worried as they will have weapons to protect themselves, @sudden parrot sir am I right?
that day is a causality not an eventuality
Oh, right, thank you so much! :)
Hi i’ve a question. Which tense is this sentence « i’ve been here for 60 years » ?
but there is no verb with ing ?
It's present perfect
I think. Correct me if I am wrong
I believe it's present perfect as well

hi! I've got a query, what's the difference between suppose, supposing and imagine as alternatives of 'if'?
Hello, ive a question. Is "I had reached nirvana" correct example of past perfect tense?
So is it wrong if i wrote it just as an example
Yes, i only had to give an example using the structure. but for some reason they said its wrong.
But is there any other way to convey that
Ooh
But i had to use past perfect specifically
I get it know, i should have added more context
So that we can share, talk, or vent as we are living in the same ground and are surrounded with the same nuance, environment, and event. Ergo, there will be so many subjects that we can talk about.
Is the usage of the word "Ergo" correct? Or should I replace it with therefore/thus?
I think Ergo is an old form of therefore or thus, a bit like a synonym. It isnt used that much today because it sounds so posh, but you’ve used it correctly here
Okay.. thank u so much 👍👍
can I ask st about articles " a-an-the". how to discriminate this
someone can explain to me
Better you tho! Go twinkle cutie
A and An are indefinite articles that mean they are used to indicate something we don't have sure about it.
An is used before words beginning with vowel sounds.
A is used before words beginning with consonant sounds
The is used to refer to something specific

Thank yoooou ❤️
You're an angel @frank glen
Nooo, twinkle and you areee!
I couldn't be more than you both tho
omg thankiuu so much
You're welcome
Hi guys, got a question. I heard someone at uni say 'I don't care what happens tomorrow'. My confusion is, tomorrow is in the future, would 'I don't care what will happen tomorrow' sound wrong?
And, what if the sentence is positive, like, 'I care what happens tomorrow', is that ok?
Thanks!
I feel like you ask different forms of the same question every time? Is there any reason for this? Are you looking for a specific answer?
'I don't care what will happen tomorrow' sounds wrong to me. Perhaps it's just my dialect. "I don't care about what's going to happen tomorrow" sounds fine tho.
If there are other natives, I'd appreciate your input as well
'I care what happens tomorrow' sounds wrong as well
Hey everyone. Can the words clasp, tie and bind be used interchangeably in the below sentences?
He clasped his hands in front of him reverently in the presence of the Emperor.
He bound his hands in front of him reverently in the presence of the Emperor.
He tied his hands in front of him reverently in the presence of the Emperor.
Or would using bind and tie imply that one's hands are restrained as if by a rope or a pair of handcuffs?
I don't care what'll happen tomorrow, or I don't care about what'll happen tomorrow
I've only ever heard "to clasp" in the phrase "to clasp ones hands"
to bind and to tie are somewhat exclusive though to tie can also mean like "to tie something into a knot"
@flat rune thanks a lot for your answer. So clasp is used correctly here but bind and tie are as I've assumed they are?
Hii I have a question
I am writing a summary I want to write a sentence, does the following sentence have right grammar: He had no reason of being killed. Give me any feedback in my question sentence or the question that helps me improve 🙂
If you changed “of” too “to” it makes more sense because it was not his fault he was killed
Thanks, so there's no mistake of grammar?
No mistake in grammar
I use this tense because I think most people speak like that
after watched some documentaries
thanks
what is the active voice of " The room was Painted"
Hey, yeah I’m not sure what to make the use of present tense here. Like, ‘I don’t know what will happen tomorrow’ is fine, but, ‘I don’t care what happens tomorrow’ sounds also fine….And what’s the correct way of saying ‘I care what happens tomorrow?’
can't really change this sentence to active. But if the sentence is like this
"The room was painted by me."
then it's active will be
"I painted the room."
Appreciate it
Hi everyone i'm new here and would like to ask sth about the past perfect.
Basically I understand how to use it, but i'd like to compare two sentences:
(1) After I had talked to them, they became...
(2) After I talked to them, they became...
Clearly (1) is correct. But i'd like to know if it is acceptable to use (2), esp in spoken English.
yes please
Sure
I don't understand the blue line
From what I understood, it means the students that started at the given year
You know how each year universities accept new students, right?
Yeah
Those new students are the blue dots on the line
And the red?
The sum of both, new students and students who were already there
commencing your first first year
My pleasure
I'm practicing for IELTS
:o
Best wishes
Guys sorry to interrupt. If you are free now hope you can also help with my question. Thanks in advance~
Yeah, I'm stuck on my first writing exercise...
well past perfect is
for talking about something that happened before something else.
Yeah right i'm okay with the general rules
It's acceptable to use, but people may also use the second one as it is easier to pronounce. However, people nowadays wouldn't say it as "After I had talked to them, they became..."
Instead, they mostly pronounce the contracted version
"After I'd talked to them, they became..."
This is all colloquially of course
So, if someone writes "After I talked...", say, on his personal blog, do you consider it wrong?
It depends on the context and what comes after "they became"
there is my question as beginner, how to approach for learning English language
Your explanation related to pronunciation is quite useful. Thanks
OK so how about:
"After I talked to them, they became willing to share their feelings."
Do you think it has to be "had talked"?
It depends on what you mean. If you mean that the action of talking to them finished before they became willing to share their feelings, then the past perfect would be the optimal choice
Sorry for being annoying. But in a general sense do you think "I talked" is wrong in this sentence?
Or would u say, no native Eng speakers would write sth like that
For one, try immersing yourself by adapting your surroundings. For example, incorporate English in your hobbies or fun activities
For listening, watch YouTube videos or movies and with subtitles, if possible, as it can help with both writing and listening
For vocabulary and writing, try to employ a vocabulary journal whenever you encounter a new word or meaning
As for speaking, try using the voice chats here whenever you feel comfortable as practice is the way to go with speaking
You're not being annoying
In general, no one would call you out on it unless it's your grammar teacher, if you get what I mean
In a more specific sense, there are two scenarios.
Either you mean after you talked to them, you stopped talking and they became willing to share their feelings. Past perfect would be better here
Or
You mean that you talked to them but continued your interaction and they started opening up to you. Simple past works here
Ok i can understand this one
thanks for your effort and time, love for you from my inner heart, one thing i wanna ask if i stuck at some problems may i dm u, it's an awkward question but I'm waiting for your reply.....
Of course!
So for instance, in the last sentence in my pic, do you think "I talked" belongs to your first scenario?
Or is it because the interval among the actions in that sentence is too short
It's the writer's choice
They probably thought it isn't important to use the past perfect here
This one is getting difficult for me
I'm not quite sure when I can make that "not important" judgment
It's alright, don't stress too much on it :D
It really depends on the context, and the example you provided is, I presume, from a book, hence you can't know the full context from one sentence, wouldn't you agree?
@still sluice I'm asking you, can you help me in the future , whenever i stuck at problems, reply me please
Yes, of course
thanks
For example, if you are faced with a grammar exercise
After I ___ my homework, I went to school.
Choose the best possible answer:
1- did
2-have done
3- had done
so you're going to be my tutor from today
Whenever you have an issue with English, feel free to send me a message :)
Yeah no prob with (3)
thanks @still sluice
I'm just not sure if a student picks (1), can I really say he's/she's wrong?
in the beginning it takes me three to four days for completely active in this group bcz i have to see how the group works nd how people communicate to each other
My actual case is a bit strange
If you asked about the best possible answer and provided nothing but this sentence and you have taught your students the past perfect, you can consider them wrong. If not, then it depends on you
Take your time
Oh, how so if I may ask?
yeah
ah thanks
this really helps
👍
You're welcome :)
(1) I gotta prepare an exercise for some students (we're not native speakers)
(2) They [don't know / have forgotten about] the past perfect but the sentence I mentioned appears in the paper
(3) I have two options:
(3a) Avoid the use of the past perfect and make it "After I talked"
(3b) Use the past perfect straight away
I myself tend to choose (3a) if it's acceptable.
Even if the sentence may become not authentic but it can reduce the frustration for lower achievers when they read the paper.
As you can imagine, some would say it has to be "After I had talked".
Therefore i'd like to know how native speakers see this.
And from the corpus I screencapped, it seems to me that using "After I talked" is not SO wrong.
if it is the test about tenses then ofc go for past perfect one. And as topaz said before, it depends on the sentence.
It's not about tenses but still, some colleagues may insist that using the past perf is a must.
I think my sentence belongs to Scenario 1 but as you can see, quite a few sentences from the corpus i'm using also belong to the same scenario.
Someone check my homework please?
can you send me the book pdf
what is the difference between do i get to thank you and may i thank you ?
Hello
In this sentence" She says "agenda," like maybe don't have one was sort of like her feel.". I think we need "which" before "was"
it is correct?
Thank evereybody
Does this image match with the meaning of “to sneer at someone”
Well, it can means to laugh at someone, or the expression on your face that shows dislike or lack of respect.
I am going ' THERE '
I am going ' TO COME '
is it how it invented long ago
metephor ?
i know its about 'going🏃♂️' but just wondering why 'going'
I see, thanks!
is it same - to be-
I am a teacher
I am going
"Going to" is a modal verb used when you are intending to do something in the future or quite soon.
Like" I'm going to have to tell him the truth"
I'm going to be a teacher
Hey guys, I've a question...
"Did you see yesterday’s episode of...." is it correct?
or is have you seen?
You guys sending too much information without tagging me!
They both mean the same thing but in “slightly” different tenses, either is fine and it really dosent matter
oh I know! thank you very much
Well.. they weren't exactly asking to get their homework specifically corrected, they just asked to have it checked.
Well technically it still falls under this rule mabe i dont knoe
🤷 Eh. Not an exact offense, imo.
it does actually
cuz checking homework is us doing it
dont post anything about homework
if you want it checked email teachers you know.
or your irl friends
Nah it's fine
They actually did it, and asking us to correct it
they put their effort
Its not exam, so we can try helping them
oh mk

It seems fine by me. Why do you think the statement needs "which" before "was" tho?
Can you explain us, I didn't understand 😟
Yeah, I think we need "which" before "was" to connect two clauses together. First clause is " don't have one" and second clause is "was sort of like her feel." so we need "which" to connect these clauses. But I'm not sure it is right. Hmmm
Well, as far I know "what" and "that" in some cases are used to connect sentences.
Actually, The sentence is "don't have one was sort of like her feel", and I have collected it from real conversation. But I think it's grammar is not correct and I was little confused @@
around or round?
Hi guys. According to my grammar book, the adverb "quite" means "completely" with several adjectives such as safe, sure, true, etc. What adverb can replace quiet if I don't want to use "pretty" (because it's an informal word)?
I run around at the park.
I run round the track.
I think you could use 'rather' or 'fairly'
Even tho I have this list about adverbs of degre. It might help you
Thank you 😄
The same book says that "rather" is often used for negative ideas e.g. The weather isn't so good. It's rather cloudy. For positive ideas it means "unusually" or "surprisingly". Fairly seems weaker to me than quite/pretty. However, thanks for the list, I think I can find appropriate adverb now.
@sudden ingot can you explain to me the difference between Either and too?
i like chocolate
hmm
can you show me an example of Either?
oh
thanks,mate
yeah
you were clear
bruh
stop deleting messages, it will seem like I'm weird and I'm talking to myself
1.If class 6-7 girls gang see this post 2.if class 6-7 girls gang see that post
which one is correct
use 'this' if you're referring to a post that is close to you and your listener, use' that' if you're talking about a post that is at a distance from you guys
the difference between the two is 'too' is used for positive agreeing statements while 'either' is used in sentences (negative) that talk about what both the speakers' don't like doing or haven't tried yet
e.g.,
Margarita likes drinking tequila and her friend does too.
: I love watching horror movies.
; I do too!
The president has a soft spot for cats and I do too.
Pauline doesn't enjoy traveling. Luckily, her friends don't either.
: I didn't appreciate his mockery towards me.
; Well, I didn't either.
Gloria has never tried scuba diving and I haven't either.
Well, afaik
There are three
First is to nourishingly support or strengthen
E.g., Even though I am far away from them, I am able to sustain their needs.
Second is to go through something unpleasant such as injuries
E.g., I sustained multiple injuries in that accident.
Third one is to prolong
E.g., She was able to sustain her high notes despite her illness.
Thanks
Hey guys, I have a question about articles. Say you're at a Toyota dealership, would you say 'Hi I'm looking for a/the Corolla'
Yeah don't sweat it with corporations, i think they don't care about formal language as they used to
They just want to sell
Hi Younes, what do you mean by that...?
I think is "a" corolla. Because we use "the" when the speaker and listener both knows which Corolla you are referring to.
Thanks for the reply! I think I'm kind of getting the gist of it, would you please take a look at the following examples:
- At an Apple store, you could say 'Hi I'm looking for the iPhone 13', because it's at the store, they know which one you're talking about, 'the' is fine here.
- If you're looking for one on eBay, you could say 'I'm looking for an iPhone 13', it could be any iPhone 13.
- Back to the Corolla example, I could use 'the' if I say something like 'I'm looking for the GR Corolla', I'm asking for a specific model of Corolla at the dealership
- If I'm just talking to my friend, talking about I want to buy a car, then 'I'm looking for a GR Corolla' would be fine here
Are these correct?
They look right to me, even tho I think you should wait Twinkle or Topaz take a look on them just to be sure
Ah ok, is it rude for me to tag them...?
Yes, correct 👍
And it's okay to tag Twinkle
Good to know! One more question. For example 1, the Apple store scenario, is it wrong if I use 'an' there?
Who's twinkle?
Wow, you're at 15%
No u
Uhm, technically, it would sound weird if you use that because the salesman or saleslady shall know their store's items as it is their job, haha. Also, as you've said, it's an Apple store so the majority of the people there (most especially the staff) must already be familiar with the iPhone 13.
Ah ok, so iPhone 13 is a specific model, 'the' would be appropriate. Corolla is a generic model, so use 'a'
but I can say 'I'm looking for an iPhone'
Yes
thanks for teaching me

Hello. Could I use "as" instead of "to be"?
Watson remained completely opposed to the policy, which he found to be a betrayal of science and unethical.
If so why "to be" used instead of am or is?
I know this using but I meant the using of "as" similar in the following sentence:
The money wouldn't be available as grants.
You can not use your telephone as calculator.
What pronoun needs "to be"? Why "to be" used in my sentence which I sent.
In those?
They regarded manual work as degrading.
He worked as a clerk.
His teachers described him as brilliant.
Is there a someone to explain why "to be" used in this sentence?

@everyone
hello guys, i was wondering what is the difference between
-
At 8 o’clock, I was having by breakfast.
-
At 8 o’clock, I had my breakfast.
The first one if more of a description
You expect something will happen
Like : I was having my breakfast and someone came in
The second one is pure facts
You had the breakfast, it's over
so its like past progressive?
Yes
Okay nice
ahhh there we go thankyou so much now I can sleep peacefully
Goodnight bro
In fact I can not understand "to be" sometimes. What does it mean, purpose, towarding - heading, or something I don't know? Do you know good explanation for this? By the way thanks for explanation.
Applications are known to be case driven.
This sentence is easy to understand because there is a rule about passive structure. But I don't understand the sentence I wrote. Is there rule?
From my knowledge, it simply means a state of existence. E.g, I am here. In your sentence, the applications are just know to be case driven. As in, it is just simply know to be (in a state) case driven
As I said it is easy to understand. I understand this sentence.
I meant this
Hi so could someone help me with my english please?

How would you explain respectively
Predicate is the part of the sentence that contains the action. It's the part that tell us what the subject is or does.
For example: " Twinkle is the server's teacher"
Subject: Twinkle
Predicate: is the server's teacher
bruh HSHDHHSHSA

Hello guys
Here is the sentence I keep struggling with...
"The consulting company should have a demonstrated clientele that is representative of the industry sector the facility under review represents. "
I don't understand what it tried to say
Could anyone explain for me please?
TIA
It's an adverb. Each relating to something previously mentioned, in the same order as first mentioned.
To be honest, I'm not sure how to use it in a sentence
.
have a question. How do you guys expand your vocabulary? because every new word I learn i just forget, and i have to keep searching it up and up again, and its getting very annoying.
Actually, I believe forgetting is a process of learning something
It's quite annoying at first but you're persistent, therefore, the result will come
I used Spaced Repetition System, especially the Anki app; it's great app, give it a try
Thanks
Chad is slang for someone, typically a man, who has great success with dating and relationships

Hi guys, I have a question. Let’s say, a new game is having an open beta test, but Xbox members will get early access, I’m an Xbox member, should I say: ‘I get early access to open beta’ or ‘I’ll get early access to open beta’. Thanks!
I'd say: I'll get access.... because you're talking about the future.

i mean an adjective is not positive or negative right
how do i classify those adjectives
the first one is grammatically correct but both have spelling mistakes
As far I know, the correct answer is: my mother doesn't have money in her pocket.
Thanks for the reply! But I feel like ‘I will…’ is more about my intention, since the schedule has already been announced, can I drop the ‘will’?
well that would be more proper English but you could also go with my mother has no money in her pocket.
Got it
thats what i would say just talking to someone
@gusty frost sorry to bother you with this one….since you’re native, can you take a look at this? Thanks!
take a look at what
Sorry I should’ve linked the question
Hi guys, I have a question. Let’s say, a new game is having an open beta test, but Xbox members will get early access, I’m an Xbox member, should I say: ‘I get early access to open beta’ or ‘I’ll get early access to open beta’. Thanks
I get early access to open beta would be more of general sort of thing while I’ll get early access to open beta if more of a past tense saying I have not got it but i will get it
Ah, right, so in this case, I’m talking about this specific game’s open beta that will happen in the future, would you use future tense or present tense?
‘I get early access to this game’, is this correct..?
for that i would use I’ll get early access to open beta since you have not got it yet
you could also use I get early access to this game they are both correct in this sense
So ‘I get early access to this game’ is fine here because it’s a scheduled event right? We use present tense here to express the future?
yes
Thank for the help!
Ah ok
I'm not really sure, but in the example sentences you gave (you cannot use your telephone as a caluclator), you are comparing two things. But in the Watson sentence is its just stating he thinks that that is that. @dark kayak
According to the definition of Prominent it means well known and important, but my question is when you say Prominent means that the person is well known and important or can I say that the person is just well known but not important or the person is important but not well known?
Heiwjhd I think u've said it yourself, being prominent means well known and important so if you want to say either of the last two descriptions you've stated, maybe just go find other precise terms that will suit them
When can I know when I should use gerunds or infinitive?
Gerunds are verbs that function as nouns in a sentence and are usually formed in -ing.
You can use a gerund as the
Subject
-Striking is considered a revolutionary tactic in some countries.
Direct Object: the receiver of the action/answers the questions what or who
- Koreans love singing.
- My mother loves dancing.
- A successful chef must enjoy cooking.
Indirect Object: to what/for what and to whom/for whom
- Ryan gives gardening all of his attention.
- Maria gave studying all her efforts.
Predicate Nominative: renames, identifies, explains the subject in the sentence
- Her worst fault is lying.
- The national activity of Indonesians is singing.
Object of the preposition: always follows a preposition (of course)
- Lock the door before leaving.
- Indonesians' love for singing is known around the world.
Okay
That is all for the gerund
And now
The infinitives
Based on your replies, it seems like you know enough so I am not going to say its meaning again

You can use an infinitive as a
Like in the gerund,
You can use it as the subject
- To cheat is immoral.
- To lie is blasphemous.
Predicate nominative
- Our best protection is to hide.
- The only decision we have is to leave.
Obj. of the preposition
- I was about to speak.
As an adjective
- The doctor gave me some vitamins to take.
- My math teacher gave us problems to solve.
- The fair is the place to go.
And lastly
As an adverb
Answers the question "why?"
- The family always travel to learn.
- I bought some paint to start my project.
Okay
That would be all
Thanks
Hello, is this sentence gramaticaly correct:
Currently obtained my university diploma in Computer Science in Toulouse, I am looking for a job.
I graduated with a computer science degree from Toulouse and I'm looking for a job. I'd like to phrase it like that
Nahhhhh
Yeaaaa
The problem is it's not good to start your sentence with I in a cover letter
Ohhhh
I am trying to dodge it
Help. I'm bad at this
Hehe yeah
Hshdhd wait lemme look up what a cover letter is first
Okiee
Yes
"Having recently obtained my university diploma in Computer Science in Toulouse, I am now writing to express my desire to find employment."
Poggers
What technique did you use?
Mhm, change of tense and flourishing of some words for formality purposes
Having recently obtained my university diploma in Computer Science in Toulouse, I am now writing to express my desire to find employment.** I** just discovered your job offer and your company on indeed. The informatic sector being a real interest for me, I would like to propose you my application. I would like to be integrated in your company, servers and networks being a passion for me.
I did that
But I can not find a correct way to dodge the I would like or the I
@proven citrus
Yes
"Having recently obtained my university diploma in Computer Science in Toulouse, I am now writing to express my desire to find employment. I came across your company's job offer and therefore, I have seen it as a great opportunity to propose you my application as the informatics sector is of real interest to me. Being a passion for me, I would really like to be integrated into your company, servers, and networks."
How about this one
I am legit imprest!
I replaced th I by my
but your formulation is a WAY better
I need to get your logic
"I have seen it as a great opportunity to propose you my application as the informatics sector is of real interest to me."
isn't the correct way :
"I have seen it as a great opportunity to propose to you my application as the informatics sector is of real interest to me.
mhm, let me check rq
Okay so IIRC, I'd say it's optional rather than incorrect since you can consider the word propose as either transitive or intransitive in both sentences that you have given
İs this sentence passive
Hundred percent not but
“U are not supposed to come here”
Just yes or no ?
could someone pls help me w this q
I have a question
This is an anime and I know the translation from Japanese to English isn't always accurate. But is it wrong to say:
“If you touch them, I'll kill you”
instead of that sentence in the picture?
They are both correct
Thanks!
Is it outdated to still use “home skillet”
What do you mean with that?
@gusty frost
i mean if you say home skillet now will it be cringe or not becuase i know it used to be popular slang back in the 90s
sure my home skillet
So, I was reading a book today morning and I came across with this dialogue
My fatal flaw is hubris.’ I blinked. ‘That brown stuff they spread on veggie sandwiches?’ She rolled her eyes. ‘No, Seaweed Brain. That’s hummus. Hubris is worse.’ ‘What could be worse than hummus?’ ‘*Hubris" means deadly pride, Percy. Thinking you can do things better than anyone else … even the gods.’ ‘You feel that way?’
Is hubris an English word?
I honestly have no idea
Are you confused with the text?
No I have just never heard of hubris
Interesting
Yes I don’t think it’s of English origin but it is a English word
This book is a percy Jackson book from the series
They speak in ancient greek sometimes
Which means they speak another language
I suppose
Which one I’ve read the first 5 and I don’t remember this
It's the sea of monsters, book two
Right after the island of sirens if that makes any better
I haven’t read jt for a while so that might me why
I have another question
Ask away
If Luke’s way of thinking could even tempt Annabeth, there was no telling how many other half-bloods might join him.
What does it mean?
The whole phrase with that word
Which word
Tempt
Will tempt is a shorter version of temptation and in this case it is showing how Luke can peursade the halfbloods to join him but in a more sinister way
Yes it is saying Luke is able to persuade the halfbloods to join him
If she (Annabeth) joined the "cult", how many people would join on Luke's team?
This way?
What's hail, sorry
The questions?
No we’re do you come from
Sure
Brazil, why?
Not really
Thank you very much
It's almost midnight here so, see you tomorrow!
Hi guys, I was watching the show 'better call saul' and this sentence caught my eye
Better call Saul:
Steven Ogg AKA Trevor Philips Vs Mike Ehrmantraut
Season 1 Episode 09 Pimento
Episode Download link:
http://adf.ly/7562016/better-call-saul-ep09
'now that I'm doing the job alone I get the full 1500'
The context is, Mike will get paid after he's done his job, is the following sentence unnatural:
'now that I'm doing the job alone I'll get the full 1500'
Why did it catch your eye
I’m a bit confused on the tenses here. I guess it’s a similar question to what I asked you yesterday if you remember 🙂
He just said ‘I get the full 1500’, shouldn’t it be ‘I will get the full 1500’?
Well they probably aren’t talking properly and there just talking slang
Yeah
slang*
the moment you say "slangs" you're giving yourself away as a non-native
imo he's correct tho
slang can also be a noun
ive never heard another native speaker use "slangs"
it's always a learner

ah
basically "cheese" vs "cheeses"
haha yes, ive replied cus i saw ur deleted message eflsgs
most likely because the Oxford Dictionary accepts 'slangs' as the word's plural form
Thanks guys 🙂 I guess there are just things that are grammatically correct but not spoken of.
Guys, I need help, I have a homework due after 1 hour
its about gothic writing opening (3-5 paragraphs)
Sorry, we don't really help with homework. But we'll help you if you have any doubt related to English
@zenith etherHeyy! So I took a lot of time to do that. I inspired myself from you. I need to get ride of all the sentences starting with I (I can let 2 I maximum)
Having recently obtained my university diploma in Computer Science in Toulouse, I am now writing to express my desire to find employment. I came across your company's job offer and therefore, I have seen it as a great opportunity to propose to you my application as the informatics sector is of real interest to me. anyone know what tossage means?
I'm not totally sure but I think it means weaving.
Hi guys
What does 'dating to the..." meaning in this sentence?
Specimens belonging to S. sikanniensis have been found in the Pardonet Formation British Columbia, dating to the middle Norian age (about 210 million years ago).
I looked up the dictionary but can't find
That means that it has happened since that time
I'm not sure tbh. But I think you can because the main clause still is "I've studied" so It's a past perfect phrase despite having "was"
Very well done, Whale! However, I would like to tell you some things that can improve this cover letter of yours. :D
Hi.. would you please give me a decent and simple but not too short example when the collective noun acts as a singular unit (perhaps in a sentence)?
During my formation, I could acquire many competencies in the field of data processing of which the control of the languages of programming such as Java, C, PHP, HTML/CSS/JS but also the administration and the management of databases with SQL. With my experience, myknowledge and skills, I have acquired the necessary qualities to join your company. I can also handle the responsibilities that will be entrusted to me. I can also guarantee that I can handle the responsibilities that will be entrusted to me in the future.
I also had the opportunity to travel to English-speaking countries. The mastery of English is essential for a developer to keep up to date with the latest developments in the field.
Today, joining your company will allow me to evolve in my professional experience and tofully use my skills. Being serious and curious, I am ready to get fully involved in the missions that will be entrusted to me during this internship.
and on the during my formation part, are you referring to your existing ability to acquire at that time or are you trying to say that during your formation, you have gained competencies?
take note that competence and competencies are different from each other, and competence is a mass noun
therefore, the word 'competences' doesn't xeist
ask it here
aye, you can transfer it into the #🗒|pronunciation channel ^^
Is that "Them" is pronoun?
If you're asking if "them" is a pronoun, then yes @flat rune
Hi guys, I just wanted to ask the phrase 'get to'. Some times I see people say something like this:
- I get to see my parents this weekend.
But I've also seen sentences like t his: - People will get to play this game this weekend.
When to use 'will' and when can I drop it?
Thanks!
They both on this context have the same meaning so you could use either one. I only say “ get to” when I speak since “ will “ kinda messed up my flow of words and I only use will occasionally in text
Is this sentence grammatically right?
Will you stop studying after you are done with your university or school?
Is there any way to say this in a more natural way?
Will you stop studying after you are done with
youruniversity or school?
sounds more natural
Thanks
What's the difference between fog and mist?
I think a fog is thicker than mist but idk maybe wrong in general
what is this from?
never mind, figured it out
I just wanted to use a specific word here....
like
What is the ........... at that time?
idk how to explain
Weather?
should I ask....
What is the average temperature at that time?
You could, but it depends of how formal you want to sound.
If it is a casual conversation you can say what Baby Evee told you
no I'm not looking for this term 😭😭
actually it's.... like I want to ask the level of coldness but I don't know how to ask it
So how cold is it when it's your birthday
isn't there any specific term?
Uhh lemme look for it
For example, for medium temperature... you say moderate
Yeah I got that
Gimme a few minutes
I can't find a specific word
I think weather would be suitable
Or like
How chilly is the weather
Idk
ok thank you 😀😀
Can you guys explain the difference between mock & mimic!
Hi everyone!!! I have a question🥺 how do you learn verb tenses? I always got confuse when I'm trying to talk in one verb tense or write 😥

any good websites to practice simple tenses?
İs ”” not”” attached to helper verbs or main verb
?
İ will not come
Not is attached to will or come ?
Or we can not do that
We will help with any doubt about English or even proofreading. But we won't do your homework. Try write something before
i did it now. no more worries
Take a look at #🗃|resources
I didn't get your question well but I think is I -will not- come.
I saw you seven! What do you think? I am kinda confused
Heyya Moony, he asked for Not from Will Not, not is attach to will, and we often use won't
Seven, welcome back!
Hi
Yay thank you! Missed you and welcome back!
MOFs have been used as photocatalysts due to their large area and high porosity, which enhances charge and mass transport. Therefore, different molecular functional components can be integrated into the MOF structure to module their properties.
Is module here a verb? Does it mean as modify?
TIA
Hi everyone
I know I've been absent for quite a long time
But now I reallllly need your help
what is it with
So long story short
I have to write a limerick and a poem/shape poem about someone famous from USA or Great Britain
is that homework?
Yea
we cant do homework
And like
I'm not asking you to wrote it for me
But I have some questions about limericks
did you ask your teacher?
cuz if you didnt, they could help you better than any of us
Unfortunately I couldn't cause I was absent
I know but like
email is a thing
when im absent i always email my teachers
cuz teachers are willing to help any way they can
Uhmmmm, what part are you confused with?
Mhm, yes
Do you see the AABBA pattern? It means that the first, second, and fifth lines must rhyme with each other and the same goes with the third and fourth lines
I'm talking bout this 5 lines on the bottom
And I don't know if I would write something that would have all those lines rhyming
But it would not follow this rhythm
Would it still be a limerick or not
Ooooh, I see
Mhm lenne check
Mhm, I think one of the most important features that make it a limerick poem is its rhythm so I think you really have to follow its anapestic rule
Since limerick poems are meant to have bouncy tones
But I think it depends on your professor's empathy haha so if you can make them consider your work without any rhythm, I think it's gonna be acceptable
I'm trying to get out an English word from a video at Youtube which I couldn't hear properly. Is it ok to post it here so someone can pls help me?
Ohayoooo btw, guys 🙂
Okie, let us try
i can try
thank you so much, sec

do I ask questions here?
I wanna get help understanding some terse sentences like this one
"... still others have been seized to the great detriment of those into whose possession they have come." I am lost with the last part " into whose possession they have come"
which is from the following whole sentence:
"Picture now to yourself that Fortune is holding a festival, and is showering down honours, riches, and influence upon this mob of mortals; some of these gifts have already been torn to pieces in the hands of those who try to snatch them, others have been divided up by treacherous partnerships, and still others have been seized to the great detriment of those into whose possession they have come. "
Hello, sorry I don't quite understand ur question here
Sensei's I have a question too does "Opening Sequence" mean Opening Scene? or does it mean an how they sequence the opening scene, like how they arranged it? help please
if there is a sentence "He was careful" does that mean that he was an careful person before and not anymore, or is it only saying that he was an careful person since a long time ago?
@still sluice helpus
He was careful implies that it was situational
If he was a careful person, they would say : he was a careful person, or he would be careful

alrighty thank you for enlightening us
I don't really understand this sub-sentence "into whose possession they have come" in "... still others have been seized to the great detriment of those into whose possession they have come."
does anyone care to explain it to me? I think it's the grammar that's confusing.
It depends on the context, what comes before or after that
A title sequence (also called an opening sequence or intro) is the method by which films or television programmes present their title and key production and cast members, utilizing conceptual visuals and sound.
Where did you get this from?
a Stoicism reading from the internet
Can I get a link to the source? :)
the full sentence is this
"Picture now to yourself that Fortune is holding a festival, and is showering down honours, riches, and influence upon this mob of mortals; some of these gifts have already been torn to pieces in the hands of those who try to snatch them, others have been divided up by treacherous partnerships, and still others have been seized to the great detriment of those into whose possession they have come. "
from https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Moral_letters_to_Lucilius/Letter_74
"and still others have been seized to the great detriment of those into whose possession they have come. "
This is what I understood:
Some of the gifts ended up in the hands of the people that would treat those gifts badly
Thanks.
I think what confuse me include
- “those” in “detriment of those”. Does it mean some people?
- “whose” refers to those people aforementioned?
- “they” still refers to those people?
This kind of sentence just makes me wanna put a bullet though my head lol
Lol, I feel you
"and still others (the gifts) have been seized to the great detriment of those(people) into whose possession they have come(those gifts became the possession of the aforementioned people)."
much appreciated
https://youtu.be/ruKBAarWRDE another question please? what did he mean when he said "it's the prelim"? its not her name either 😦 @7:31 and after she said "She's stanked, though?" or stunk maybe? don't think it's tank...

Hi! guys, I have a question, which questions sounds more natural: "What business did you succeed in" or "In what business did you succeed?", I'm sure the answer is the former, but I'm a bit confused as I heard about a rule that doesn't allow to use preps. at the end of questions and sentences.
Hello people, i hope you're doing well, i really have an annoying question abou to be verb, it's the following:
It will works or
It will work?
What sentence is right?
works
Haha, awesome! Thank you so much!
Can sb tell me if its true to say (not slang) or if not tell me its grammatical correct one
“İm controlling them instead of |THEM CONTROLLING ME| “
“We are beyond |YOU CALLING ME| sir”
“I will play it instead of |YOU PLAYING IT| ”
Its in Spiderman trailer
nah
Can sb explain
Oh, sure, thanks ;)
anyone can please help me get another word from a video please?
It's in simple future, so you have to use "It will work" not "It will works". The s-end rule is for simple present when you use the subjects "he", "she" or "it". Also, remember that after modal verbs(like will), you should use the verb in its base form(infinitive without -to).
film, movie, motion picure
@dense sonnet @glossy heart clip would work best imo if ur talking about a generic video
ah correct, thats a good one ♥️
Send it
Why in mostly languages they use verb ”go” to make future tense
Is it normal go as we know ( 🚶🏼♂️ )
Pls sb help why is that
🥺😢😭
wait wdym haha
can you give a sentence example?
I am GOING to sleep
yes
İts metaphor then
not exactly, it just means the normal definition of the word
'to sleep' is as an infinitive that functions as an adverb in a sentence
read this
I meant ‘go’ is like mtphr
Does it show place
When there is a time expression in a sentence indicating a future action, going + infinitive is used instead of the future tense
For example,
I will do the laundry.
I'm going to do the laundry on Saturday.
I am a mastermind
or
I am mastermind
First one
why isn't mastermind "adjective" ?
Because it is a noun
I’ve is I have seen the movie and I saw the movie is what to says

What?
Can I ask a question to a native and pretty good at english
sure
Hey what happened to englishpalette

How old was he
Fanny's family is quite poor; her mother, unlike her sister Lady Bertram, married beneath her,
what does beneath mean here?
to marry beneath oneself - to marry a person whom people believe are not good enough for you because of his/her inferior social status
What does this sentence mean? (except the phrase pull any punches, I know what does it mean)
Her image is that of an investigative reporter who doesn't pull any punches.
What's there to correct? All the corrections are already there and are fine
Are you the one trying to correct it?
Ok, then just follow the corrections that have already been made
But idk a lot about punctuation and grammar
Do you not understand the corrections?
I understand it but the punctuation idk when i am supposed to use it
Like it says that i have mistakes w it
"It has 18 entrances and parking lots"
that's how the mistake labelled as "punctuation mistake" should be written
You tell yourself that you must be patient you are ready to jump out of your skin.
can somebody tell me where a comma needs to be placed in that sentence. I thought it was after patient but i got it wrong
nvm it was supposed to be fused sentence so i got it corret
Hello!
What does 'her mixed up' mean?
I think it means confused. But I guess it depends in the context you are saying it
Bill is the newly elected president of the student council. where is the action or linking verb here?
'is' is the linking verb
Oh i see
What about "Your voice sounds hoarse today." the word sounds is the linking verb right?
Yes, it is the verb, but it's not a linking verb. It's an action verb
How bout the word found in the sentence "Venti found his report to be confusing and misleading." is found used as an action verb or a linking verb?
Action
The word "sounds"
So linking?
What is a synthesis paper
Google can answer that. I can't send links here
Can somebody explain me about these sentences?
Pm will resign today.
Pm resignes today. ( I am having problems to understand this one and the another one, both we use as a future sense)
Pm is to resign today.
Pm is going to resign today.
What do you need explained about them
"The government officials immediately addressed the problem about the road’s conditions." where is the transitive verb or intrasitive verb there?
@flat rune
addressed - transitive verb
Tq tq
How about this one "The people from Liyue fled in panic from the approaching group of Harbingers." where is the Transitive or Intransitive verb?
fled - intransitive
Thanks
What about "Raiden Mei confirmed the speculations regarding her candidacy for the upcoming elections" where is the Transitive Verb or Intransitive Verb?
confirmed - transitive
"The Department of Snezhnaya is preparing for the implementation of tree planting in areas with little to no trees." where is the intransitive or transitive verb here?
preparing - intransitive
Ok last one
"The management committee will discuss the impact of voter registration extension on our preparations for the national and local elections." where is the transitive or intransitive verb here?
discuss - transitive
Wait i have one more question lmao "Have you ever been to Paris." where is the helping verb and the main verb
And this one aswell " Do you have enough supplies for the camping trip?" where is the helping and main verb
Also is "will have" and "has been" a helping verb?
have - helping
been - main
do - helping
have - main
yes. but as for 'has been', it can be two ways. It really depends on the context
For example:
- She has been to Paris.
- She has been reported.
in #1, 'has been' is a complete verb phrase in itself. 'Has' is the helping verb, 'been' is the main verb
in #2, 'has been' is the helping verb, and 'reported' is the main verb
Then what about these two what are the helping verbs and main verbs:

Are main verbs always action verbs tho?
And are linking verbs always intransitive?
No, not always. The main verb can also be a state-of-being verb. For example, 'he had been happy'. Here, 'been' is the main verb, and it's not an action verb
What about verbs that are linking verbs can they be action verbs in other sentences?
I think so. Linking verbs can't ever have an object, so they're never transitive
Yes, specifically sensory verbs. Observe how the verb 'to look' is used in these two sentences:
- She looks great.
- She looks at him.
In #1, looks is linking. In #2 it's action
Then, hmm can an action verb be a transitive verb in a sentence and an intransitive in another?
Yeah, but not all. There are verbs that can function as transitive or intransitive. But some verbs are reserved for only one function

i need an adjective to describe a party
Wow your proficiency in english is so good
Lol I'm flattered. Thank you
fun
What does this sentence mean? (except the phrase pull any punches, I know what does it mean)
Her image is that of an investigative reporter who doesn't pull any punches.
It means that she is a straightforward speaker. Someone who speaks the truth objectively without a regard for feelings. So she's compared to an investigative reporter
have anyone a better word I can choose insted of (so) becuse I uses (so) to much when I written
Sorry, I didn't understand
So it doesn't mean that she herself is a reporter?
No, the sentence does not necessarily say that she is a reporter. It's just a comparison
