I think a good way of approaching this is to find out why someone holds such a belief, why they are so sure, and how they can justify this belief beyond faith in scripture. This, by my reasoning, can lead to a productive discussion, with the hope that the evidence is compelling and arguments are valid and sound/strong. It can be easy to argue surface-level thoughts and feelings, without ever getting to the crux of the issue.
Ultimately, my sobering realisation is that after all arguments are exposed and whittled down, you're apparently left with faith, and faith is by definition the belief in something in the absence of sufficient evidence, thus such a debate will only go so far. We are dealing with unfalsifiable claims, after all. It's quite possible for the goal posts to be shuffled around ad infinitum, for example. I feel it's important to debate these things with someone who is genuinely open to challenging their beliefs in an honest way, with the awareness of their thoughts and feelings and the acceptance that they may well be wrong, as may we; this goes both ways. The catch? This is often not easy to do, and I've come to realise the importance of compassion, regardless of which side we sit on.
Those are some of my thoughts on the matter.

you will hopefully
