This is key to the meaning of idiom

#

There are good books to study idioms from

Study a couple and you’ll easily understand what they are

#

The difficult part is learning each of them and using them appropriately

#

You don’t want to use too many of them too often

#

I use fewer of them than the average person because students generally don’t understand them.

But you should use them more to make your students understand it correctly, I think

The difference are small if even enumerable. Both derived from the same source a few hundred years ago, and have absorbed their own localizations such as pronunciation and idioms, spelling, but put two people from both sides together and they generally are speaking with a standard form of English that both would not raise an eyebrow over. smoky skiff
# thorny steeple Tbh i still didn't understand why it's called the canonical seventeeth century ?...

Lots of discussion about discussion, and you are not getting a plain answer.
I will try to provide a basic answer...
Teachers and academics have grouped up literature into time periods (12th, 13th, 17th 20th century etc) or locations (English, American, German, French, Chinese etc) or genres ( romanticism, classical, post modern, etc). The teachers call these groups 'canons'. It's used by literary teachers for literature. In your syllabus you provided above, they describe those authors' works (or writings) as being part of the literary period titled "17th century canonical works". The canonical works are special in the eyes of the teachers and academics, as they believe they shaped and formed literature and language into the future, it provided insights into the life and times of that period.

The writings of Peo will not fall into the canonical works of the 21st century English hub, into the future .... or will they...

Sure

#

Let's start with the first point. The nature of scientific knowledge, empiricism vs rationalism.

#

The larger picture of this discussion, the topic, is what do we know. How do we know it. What is the nature of knowledge, what are the limits of knowledge.

#

That will lead to a discussion of how we learn new things (science).

#

This is called epistemology.

old obsidian
#

are we supposed to differentiate between them??

lavish finch
#

They are fundamentally different, so yes.

#

Empiricism says knowledge is obtained through our senses. Rationalism says that knowledge is obtained through reasoning.

#

They are different approaches.

old obsidian
#

but isn't that obvious knowledge is gained through both experiences and reasoning

Empiricism says knowledge is rooted in experience. Rationalism says that knowledge comes from innate ideas.

Bye, Angelline.

#

Amir and Miles were discussing the problem of demarcation.

#

The problem of demarcation refers to the challenge of distinguishing between science and non-science, particularly between science and pseudoscience.

#

A clear demarcation criterion would allow us to separate empirical, methodological science from other beliefs, practices, or knowledge systems, such as metaphysics, pseudoscience, or other non-empirical belief systems.

Science includes the scientific method. It refers to, as I remember (not ChatGPT, so all of you haters can just...):

  1. Hypothesis: Conjecturing something as a plausible explanation of a previously seen, but inexplicable phenomenon. It may be based on culture and societal norms. If it is, we start with it to leave the scientific field because such norms and culture are extremely temporary (compared to science, although both are subjective; talking about relativity).
  2. Experiment: Attempting to simulate the phenomenon artificially and noting the results. Non-scientific fields are distinguished from scientific ones PRIMARILY by the lack of this step.
  3. Assessment: Conducting Step 2 repeatedly to see whether roughly the same phenomenon occurs or not.
If all the steps be satisfied, the scientific explanation of a phenomenon becomes complete.
#

But I think it's important to keep in mind that while carrying out steps 2 and 3 one cannot hope to, as corroborated by Miles with the topic of the replication crisis and said before, re-enact the exact same experiment twice. Some fluctuation, be it decisive to the evaluable results or not, is bound to occur every time. Still, if the result come out to be always more or less the same, the fluctuations may be dismissed as innocuous. If not, people are prone to, due to the lack of any rough, sequential explanation, attributing the phenomenon as something... pseudoscientific and ever making up random theories in turn prone to such norms as said in step 1.

#

In my opinion, this is the main thing that the problem of demarcation regards.

"...Would this be world enough for thee?
Playful she turn’d, that he might see
The passing smile her cheek put on;
But when she mark’d how mournfully
His eyes met hers, that smile was gone;
And, bursting into heart-felt tears,
“Yes, yes,” she cried, “my hourly fears
My dreams have boded all too right—
We part—for ever part—to-night!
I knew, I knew it could not last—
'Twas bright, ’twas heav’nly, but ’tis past!"

Every thing comes to an end, but if it is broken in up into stages, it may come to an end at an early stage rather than at the end of the last stage.

For example a project may have a design stage, development stage hand over stage, closure stage. If the design is terrible, it may end at that point and never get built.

Another example, in courts, one can keep taking the case to a higher court if they are not winning. But they may not be permitted, in which case it stops at an earlier stage of legal proceedings.

Peck trimming for chicken is a way to reduce the damage of chicken hurting or eating each other, and the chicken tend to do this pecking bc of hunger, boredom, or lack of nutrition, while some farmers sees that it's a good and easy solutions, other farmers take the matter in their hands by grouping chicken into smaller groups, provide diverse food, make playful games by hanging vegetable to peck for chicken, I think farmer should do the later solution since the first one is inhuman

what type of speaker do you consider yourself? I'm of the type who talks a lot but lately I'm trying to learn how to speak briefly and presicely bc people tend to get bored when speaking to me, and I don't give them so much room to speak if I'm so much talkative

I'm the type who adapts with who I am speaking with. In a resume: I usually talk a lot with people I have similar interests and not that much with those I don't. But I consider myself as introvert.

For example, some people tends to romanticize relationships from other era, like "oh, in my era people don't betrayed that much or divorces were rare" and etc, etc. But truth is this always existed, just not as expressivelly showed as now. Despite having other issues that its not necessary for this example now, everything that happens is just a byproduct of what was happening before - an expression of the individual and the society itself.
