# inland flame is 3 api calls per minute gonna be fine

It depends on your usage, but I would not recommend using a free tier API for production. These tiers usually have strict rate limits, meaning you cannot send a large number of requests. If you have many clients, it will not work. The free tier is mainly intended for personal projects and experimentation.

austere gate
# muted harbor Why Learning to Code is So Damn Hard whenever I try to build project I get stuck...

It is alright. Start small. By that, I mean begin with the simplest project you can think of and plan ahead. Decide what you want to build, how many features it should have, and then try to build them. If you have never built a challenging project before, it can be helpful to follow a video or a guideline. That said, this can be limiting because you are shadowing the original builder. Still, it is useful for beginners, as the process allows you to see behind the scenes work. However, if you want to be truly free, you need a strong understanding of the programming languages or frameworks you are working with. Eventually, you will reach a point where, if you can think of something, you can build it. It will never be painless, as technology changes quickly and you must learn to adapt.

Tldr: Start simple, follow a video or guide, master the tools, and then learn to use them precisely to build anything you want. You will get stuck, but do not give up. I wish you all the best.

I get this feeling that programmers starting out and even a little way in are expecting that applications should be coded in a few days, and this is not happening because of the AI not being good. When it comes to those job interviews and forgetting the syntax, thats possibly a sign that the personal skills never set in yet. Sure its not easy to do a test on the fly, but I think people starting out should realize, there is a lot involved in developing a robust and steady piece of code that meets the requirements for the system, and this is not a 2 day task, rather weeks or months for a small application. With a good idea, an application could take 1-1.5 man.years to get operating to a point of commercializing a version 1 with the confidence of knowing it has minimal errors and any that might happen are trapped and handled and won't wipe out a client's data.

Don't be discouraged at one's skill levels, but learn, and use the skills, and don't leave it to AI unless that is the occupation/role you don't want.

During the last half of my career, for me, the design of systems has distilled down to the foundation of a comprehensive Entity-relation diagram. With this, everything gets built on top being a simple CRUD architecture. Use the simple Systems model of Output <- Process <- input. Work out what the customer wants out of the system. What data. Determine any processes that produce that output, and the inputs that are required to drive those processes. Put all the I/o data in your ER diagram and you set to go. The rest is just decoration.

To determine the Data requirements, and get yourself set up with a good systematic approach to requirements elicitation I recommend you get yourself a copy of BABOK (The Business Analysis Body of Knowledge) . If you want to organize yourself and run the development systematically then also grab a copy of PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge). These provide the step by step processes for design and project management. I recommend a hard copy, so its always with you.

https://www.iiba.org/career-resources/a-business-analysis-professionals-foundation-for-success/babok/
https://www.pmi.org/standards/pmbok
You can even subscribe to these organizations for long term learning, access to resources etc, but the 2 guides have been fine for me over the years. These will lead your career into the future.

But Practice your Entity-Relation diagram drawing skills. Normalize everything. Start building databases.

Since many of you are prepping for certs or working in data/dev roles (saw the discussion on ER diagrams and system design earlier!), I’d love to get some feedback on the latest update I pushed—specifically the new thumbnail and site layout.

I’m also curious: as devs/learners, are you finding it hard to keep up with AI news while studying? I’m trying to keep the site "noise-free," so if you find the content helpful for your career growth, feel free to subscribe to the newsletter.

Honestly, I don't know. But I can tell you one thing. No matter what you decide to pursue, you've to pick a niche and specialise. For example, if you want to become an AI engineer, you not only need to understand the entire pipeline, but you also need to master a specific area. The goal is to be the person people go to for that specialism, cz most entry level roles are about to be automated. I wish you all the best.

I was surprised to learn they’re operating with 'virtual' money it’s basically just numbers in a database, and most of it doesn’t even exist in the real world

#

they are giving people just words, not real physical value

jagged prawn
#

quite descriptive answer

low jolt
#

usually ATMs have a specific amount of cash stored inside them. People don’t withdraw millions of dollars at once so the machines physically store money for regular withdrawals.

now when we talk about how banks work, you might wonder how you earn interest on your money. There are different schemes such as fixed deposits (FD),recurring Deposits (RD), and other types of deposits where the bank pays you interest.

But how does the bank give you this extra money? Banks earn it by providing loans and other financial schemes to people. When customers take loans, they pay interest to the bank based on the principal amount. The bank then uses this interest to pay depositors like you. This is one of the main ways banks operate.

Banks can also raise money through IPOs (Initial Public Offerings). When people buy shares of the bank, the bank gets funds, which it can then reinvest into its operations.

jagged prawn
#

aha but I basically meant not atm withdrawals I’m talking about other ways. If a lot of people suddenly start taking money out of the bank, they could run out quickly since it’s just a matter of liquidity

It's not going to disappear overnight, but in five years there's a possibility that we may not have to write a single line of code at all. A couple of years ago, we couldn't even imagine what AI can do in coding now, and I think the models will continue to improve, even though whether we can ever create truly intelligent general AI remains up for debate.

If you compare bingo with lotto, in bingo all numbers get called (worst case [everyone has the same number on their card and that number is called last]), so everyone will fill their card eventually. The winner is just the first to fill a card. With lotto, not all numbers are draw from the full set. Players chose say 6 of 45 numbers. If no one picks the 6 numbers that are drawn, then there is no winner. The game can then accumulate a jackpot between each new run of the game.

Try and build a program to manage some information for yourself. A music library, contacts list, things to do organizer are good starting points. Dr if you can get it working completely with no lose ends. Plan it first and build it. Set our your database before you physically build it etc. Get it working so it's useable and does everything you put in your requirements. Ensure you trap errors; test it, try to crash it... It shouldn't crash. This will give you confidence in yourself and something to show it talk about during interviews. It's also practice for what you would be doing in a real job. It also lets you say to yourself, that you have the skills to be the only computer person in a small business, if they want to employ you to write custom software for them. Small companies with only a handful of employees often lol for a 'computer person' to be on staff and handle all the technical stuff. Either buy or the shelf solutions and set them up and run them, it build something special for the company.

Apart from them droning one to sleep, I think a key indicator now, since waking up, is there is a continuous equal space between each sentence. It never stops to pause on important notes. Nothing is more important than any other sentence. All sentences are equal weighted in their emphasis. Remember this when you need to hang up on a bot. Build something and apply for any relevant jobs immediately to have hands on expirience , the more real experience you have, the more valuable you become. Almost every major lab is releasing something new or deploying incremental changes so frequently that the pace has very likely overwhelmed most people who are not coders or actively building something with AI. I'm just waiting for something significant, but I think it's going to be a long, incremental route. However, if the majority of the population don't even get enough time to acclimatise and end up failing to adopt it or feeling alienated, then what's the point?

Over my years in my career, i went through a lot of iterations of such frameworks and management models, but never had a piece of paper to say i was a professional in them. Most interviewer who are in ICT don't either, and a lot of companies don't actually use the frameworks formally ( even though this is what this one says to do). However if you get yourself access to the system, and read it yourself and understand the basics of what the framework/system is doing, then it's going to be fine to say you understand the knowledge there in, and give some examples of it in the interview. The implementation of such systems is always going to be different from business to business, but they want to know, that you know how to work in a formal ict environment. Understanding configuration management principals is essential, but doesn't require paper to provide it. Them knowing you understand it is much more important to them.

# pure marsh What do you guys think about Vibe Coding front end only? for pre build back-end ...

Your example brings back some thoughts from long ago. We used to write programs that got more complex over time. We had a user interface in applications, and some of them could be used to customize the application. More and more features get added and the application is customizable by the user more and more. We basically build a mini language into the interfaces to allow great flexibility for the end user, to make the interface work the way they wanted.

But in doing that, we never said they were programming the interface. There was a lot of code behind the scenes in the application to provide the customizable interface. That was what we did as programmers. The people that used the interface we said were 'configuring' the interface. The interface could be quite complex and had a configuration manual to allow the end users to get the output they wanted without us having to hard code the interface.

Basically over the past 20-25 years a lot of what is called web development is just the configuration of an interface that the ancient programmers created for end users.

A Shopify store is such an interface. The ancients would not call it programming, rather just configuring an interface.

Vibe coding is just getting an AI to configure an interface, but its not real coding. Its just putting together the components of an interface in accordance with the rules of the interface. It doesnt matter what order you switch things on or off in the interface. Similarly a vibe output will look different each time it is prompted, but it still does the same thing, cause the logic is not really required.

If one really wants to understand the application interface that is provided, it needs to be structured and consistent, from one iteration to the next. When something goes wrong, the programmer should be able to find the area of issue and fix it, and then be able to revisit it in the future and find it as they left it.

#

An AI is like Stevie Wonder's (a blind man [if you don't know your history]) wife. When she is mad at him, she rearranges the furniture in the house. An AI does the samer to you. Its different every time you ask it to do something. Its not programming, its just configuring, and you are keeping a configuration script of prompts (hopefully) to regenerate what you have asked already. But regardless, it is different each time, and you will never really know what is there, or how to fix a bug, if the AI goes on holiday

So California and Colorado have passed legislation to require operating systems to collect age verification information from users/accounts and pass this on to application developers, so they can verifiy age of users. This will probably spread across the country eventually or even internationally if more consideration of the matter is not taken by lawmakers. In summary,

This can eventually expand to more control over access to machines, data, and political censorship.

Operating systems exist in almost every piece of technology in existance, down to simple embedded systems in washing machines, or IOT etc.

While this video talks about Linux in particular, it appears the simplest avenue being taken by Op Sys developers is to exclude residents from these 2 states from access to the use of the system through their license agreement. Basically, you live there, this is not suitable for your use.

One calculator company is already put out a release banning the use of their product in California post 1/1/2027

pure copper
# hushed tendon Can someone actually fkn tell me what to do? I asked a guy as I'm going for java...

Fsd basically means you should be able to build something fully for yourself if you need to. Very important if you ever get a gig job that the client wants something built from scratch rather than just adding to what they have.

Also if you are really going to be serious in this industry, you should be able to build something that runs without needing to ask others to build bits of it for you. You should start building some desktop applications rather than venturing out to the web, but that can come a little later. Learn a language, learn how to design a database using something easily available .. sqlite ,m.. learn sql for write-ups, insert update delete as a start,. That's your ds. The algorithms part is a really a lot of wasted time. Sort, filter searching and string manipulation are the basics using the in-built functions. The brain game sites are good if you work for a company moving shapes around or doing stupid mathematics, but unless you work for nasa or esa, you will most likely only be calculating compound interest. Just know your basic mathematics, trig, geometry, algebra, and maybe a little calculus.

Learn how to talk to people and document their requirements and be precise enough to remove ambiguities or scope will now out very fast.

Please never isolate yourself. Go out, spend time with friends and family, do something purely for fun, and pick up a new hobby or two. Programming and your career or job are parts of your life, but not life itself.

Try setting a timer for 30 minutes or an hour, work diligently during that time with no distractions, then take a break. You can divide your day into these focused chunks. Do not feel guilty about not writing code or being productive every moment. Just try to find the right balance. I wish you all the best.

# hushed tendon ONE MORE QUESTION I WANNA ASK. SO I LEFT GAMES, LEFT SOCIAL CIRCLES, LEFT HANGIN...

When I went to Uni to do my degree, I was addicted to programming and all things computing. We didnt have PCs in those days, or they were just starting to become available at a price we could afford. Hanging out in the computer labs was essential if I wanted to do big development, which was done on the mainframes (Look up Cyber 72, or DEC10, PDP11 ) But being at Uni, I had a miserable first year of not much socializing, except with the handfull of computer folk that build their own machines. The following year I attended a Uni orientation camp, and met lots of people ( lets say a group of about 20, equally guys/gals) and we basically stuck together for many years to come, and I still have them as my closest friends decades later). The important thing is, to get into a club or something, that is equally popular with girls and guys. Dancing is a great place to get away from the computer, and be with irl people, and you may even get a partner , even if for only a few months or a few years or life . Our group got together on weekends and went to eat out at cheap restaurants, and went to movies, and events in the town, or just took turns having parties at each others places. If you can get involved and don't feel self conscious, just enjoy the company, even if you are quiet relative to others, you can always add a cooment or interjection to a conversation, or just talk one on one with someone. If you dont get such an active group then, be the leader. Call them all up and arrange an activity each week. Get the people you know to get out and meet up in town. Look up n the internet, party games and general things to do in you town. Search on how to meet friends irl and be active. There is a lot online to read and do. Its as important as programming and ICT. Social media is a different way of living for this generation, but the old ways of irl activities is still a reality and possible if you put some time in and manage your irl life. Good luck.

It's just a wordplay, I believe. Apart from the fact how OOP languages have tendency to overcomplicate things

SOLID includes the open/closed principle, which says that classes and functions should be "open for extension, but closed for modification". Luca Cardelli has stated that OOP languages have "extremely poor modularity properties with respect to class extension and modification", and tend to be extremely complex.[34] The latter point is reiterated by Joe Armstrong, the principal inventor of Erlang, who is quoted as saying:[35]

The problem with object-oriented languages is they've got all this implicit environment that they carry around with them. You wanted a banana but what you got was a gorilla holding the banana and the entire jungle.

Every problem can be solved with a layer of abstraction. Except for the problem of too many abstraction layers.
We don't really care. We admit and make fun of cons coming with our ways tomsip
