Great
How old are you ?
Great
I am 21
nice to meet you.
What do you do for living?
Hlint, ru programmer too>?
Yep and u?
m2
Now in Finland
Finland?
Where you from actually ?
@silver flame Nice to meet you too
Okay
Is the profit good?
Not bad
This is not a programming job. 🤔
Hmm.
Hmm ?
@silver flame how much do you earn per year
who?
1month2000euro @red hemlock
How can I make a lot of money?
If you are a programmer, then why switch to an SDE or programming-related job?
It's decent amount
Yeah

Idk
The profits from development are gradually decreasing. 😭
@harsh wigeon where are you from
If you are good at programming, then you will earn 10x more.
Well said man
Yes 😭
I am from India.
what's your opinion?
I hate to say it but i was making eqqiv of 2000euros as a programmer 30 years ago. Wages are not increasing at all, compared to costs
alr.
I know in italy the wages are very low, but I didnt expect that from Finland
@pure copper how much do you earn ?
why.
The world population in 1970 was approximately 3.7 billion people.
@harsh wigeon
I’m from Asia, so job opportunities in those countries are quite limited. I’m still working hard and doing my best.
who here is a freelancer?
I know that
Okay, what kind of programming do you do? Also, nursing is not related to the IT field.
Damn
Yeah
Yeah switching in this point is not a great idea @silver flame
It looks like Peo has a lot of experience.
There is certainly going to be demand for nurses in the next 30 years at least, and humans will be much sought after by a population that will not trust the robots
@harsh wigeon I'm not really sure what to do yet 😅
I've worked in Hospitals in IT and worked with Nurses on IT systems. A lot of medical equipment is basically computers.
So, what kind of degree are you pursuing? or a graduate?
@red hemlock I'm still thinking about it 🥺
@harsh wigeon yeah I'm a graduate
@silver flame your salary is a good if you convert it into Myanmar currency.
You should stay at this job.
Domain?
CS, Businesses, Nursing 😅
@harsh wigeon
graduated from UFL with a major in Chinese
Yeah I think so
@harsh wigeon are you studying computer science ?
I think you write code in Mandarin 😅
No, I am Graduated in 2024
Haha
So what are you doing right now
I am React Native developer now
hmm...
Great man
me too.
are you also RN Developer?
cool, are you japnaines or other?
Do you belong to Japan or another country? You only live here.
basically, web application.
I mean Are you Japanese 🥲
okey got it 😅 🫡
@candid compass so bro, tell me about programmer culture in Japan, and if someone is from India, do they need to learn Japanese?
😢

speaking language
I don’t really understand what you’re saying.
Of course, there are many local job sites, but to get a job, you usually need at least middle -level Japanese.
Thank you, bro. Arigato. i am trying to learn
newbie

And there are many channels here as well.
ya, i am using Renshu App
for learning
Then just learn how to use AI.
How develop AI tools those taking over.
Hello I’m a builder. New here, any coding nerds?
I think it's a useful thing. As long as you've got a new mountain to climb after the current one, you'll always have something to look forward to, which I think makes life more interesting. It doesn't have to be just related to coding. Imagine, right now as we speak, if all your desires got fulfilled and you had nothing more to achieve in life. How would you feel then?

me and my rust journey
Narendra and his journey with Rust:
Never learned rust yet wanna learn it now rust developers how's your experience so far
Rust is good choice for game project normally
backend & devops engineer here
nice to meet you guys
ooh i have heard that you need rust for web3
not only web3

Hi, I’m messing around with ROS2. I’m a beginner. If you are too, we can talk together.
vvmhnvmv
@sharp thorn heeey! I'd like to mess around with it too) Are you into robotics?
I'd like to coop with you some time
We are not ready for this! 🥺 You can't just leave like this. You’re the only one on this server with real programming experience—everyone else is basically a amateur compared to you! 🧑💻🔥
I haven't even asked you for AI SaaS billion dollars business ideas yet!
currently working on this project euler problem for fun https://projecteuler.net/problem=31
never understood the hype for microcontrollers; especially esp32 s3 n16r8
so useless
and yes I definately did not buy it
ill write you a super long paragraph tomorrow you can read, have a lot of respect for u 🫡
wtf, eng hub respect Peo and give back what they need #standWithPeo
nevertheless, Peo will always be in our hearts, minds and in every picture all over the room

🫡
I going to have a job interview tomorrow in ingles. But I'm having a hard time understanding and formulating a few sentences.
It's the time for....new beginning
Good luck
@pure copper May I ask what actually happened and how it all started? I don't think I'm the only one here who's confused. You mentioned having some interactions with other mods or admins before they took away your teacher role, but what actually happened during those interactions or afterwards that led to them seemingly ghosting you or not wanting to engage with you to resolve the existing conflicts in good faith?
If memory serves, you said some of them were quite young and inexperienced, perhaps disrespectful, and questioned your English proficiency even though you're a native speaker. But I don't think it's impossible to find a resolution after those incidents.

Can you at least tell us where you are going?
Is the server not good enough, or is it the mods, the admins, the people in the chat, or just the community in general?

me, not good enough

Yayyyy... can't wait for it to get renamed to programming/some-random-buzzword again

Hey @pure copper , I just talked to my personal business project. Please send me a DM or friend req, I can't send one.
Before you leave the server
This is serious 🫡
This name would actually be more descriptive...
I tried DMing Peo, but it didn't work.
I mean, we're the peasants. We shouldn't have a say, should we?

flat earth mod in the programming channel...
he's lost probably

There's nothing truer than the fact that the Earth is flat
Source: trust me bro

maybe its about time we rename it to programming/flat-earth instead of productivity
I completely disagree. Sorry. It should be flat-earth-and-programming, and I wouldn't mind if every channel was renamed using this format, like flat-earth-and-photography and flat-earth-and-food, etc., cz we all know that the Earth is flat and it's a very important concept. Maybe we should all rename our usernames with the prefix flat-earth like flat-earth-and-undefined_nil.

i lost my gif perms?

Is this what you wanted to share? Aren't you supposed to confer with the Flat Earth Society before sharing something like that?

i have a pact with the flat earth society
Remember, every time something good happens to you or you fix a critical bug, you MUST say, "Thank goodness the Earth is flat." Make it your daily mantra for finding peace and happiness.
One flat-earth mantra a day keeps the coding bugs away.

Good news for ye of no hope

then soon enough we'll see flat-earth powered ai engineer positions on linkedin
After getting hired, the engineer will invent a new model called the Large Flat Model (LFM), which will be categorically superior to LLMs.

@hot shard i play the card memory, i have 3 things to talk. Do u want DM?
Sure, I want it
Artificial Intelligence is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs. It is concerned with getting computers to do tasks that would normally require human intelligence. AI systems are basically software systems (or controllers for robots) that use techniques such as machine learning and deep learning to solve problems in particular domains without hard coding all possibilities (i.e. algorithmic steps) in software. Due to this, AI started showing promising solutions for industry and businesses as well as our daily lives.
Hi, I'm trying to learn English, could someone be my mentor?
WHY NEED AI DEFINITION HERE!!
AI replaces devs because it's really good
AI replaces devs because devs do poor job
AI replaces devs because management is shortsighted and has invested lot of money into AI (chips, data centers, tokens from OAI/Anthropic) and is desperate for that investment to pay off and keep the hype cycle going, so they lay off devs to pay for more investments.
They can’t admit their investment hasn't paid off yet (since management is paid big bucks and that will go away if they admit to their boards and investors this bet hasn't paid off so far) even as the competent devs know that this is just a tool and can’t really replace anyone (for now and most likely in the near future).
Hi, it's Hasan, I am a Native Arabic speaker (Egyptian Dialect, the most intersting dialect in the Arab Region), and I can teach it. If any one is interested, or just curious about learning Arabic, we could exchange langs with each other, you help me improve my English which is B2 by the way, and will offer teaching Arabic even from the beginning. I also can teach you The Quran Tajweed.
If you just take a look at the API pricing for both Chinese DeepSeek and American OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini, you'll understand that if these American labs fail to continue offering more intelligent models, they'll become irrelevant very quickly. I know it's harsh, but that's the reality. If you can use a Chinese model hosted on US servers for dirt cheap, why would you want to pay more when for most day-to-day tasks the difference is negligible?
DeepSeek V4-Pro costs roughly $0.435 input and $0.87 output per million tokens, while GPT-5.5 costs $5 input and $30 output, meaning OpenAI is about 11× pricier on input and 34× pricier on output.

I follow your suggestion. What do you think about it now?
https://komabrain.com/en
I'ma simpol man. To fall into a pit, there must be a hole. The hole is the devs doing poor job.
Funny enough, management gave them a cold shower by clashing the poor devs job with the poor AI. Which, eventually, won't replace devs, but will force them to be more grounded. Likely decrease their wage esteems too
`AI had lots of money invested by Meta and Google etc. All the other businesses just fire the staff with no insight, nor investment into making an AI suit their own business, and are collapsing after firing all of the human investment.
No investing, just cost cutting
Hello Mr OverLord. At 30$ output, is this the reason, they spew long repetative answers, because they are programmed to use up the output and increase revenue?
(Disgruntled Server member)
Hlo bradar
Hi Peo. I'd doubt that cz OpenAI has a lot of customers, including major businesses that pay millions every day, and these are people who know their stuff very well. If they found any deceitful activity like that, OpenAI would be in serious trouble.

The thing here is, a lot of companies have invested in this.
Hyperscalers (Google, Amazon, Meta, Msft) have invested heavily in chips/datacenters AND are funding OAI/Anthropic (Google and Amazon fund Anthropic which then buys credits from Google Cloud, Msft funds OAI which buys Azure server rentals from Msft).
Wall St believes the hype, their stocks go up.
Other companies (smaller tech companies (Oracle, Uber etc.), banks etc.) which
- either need to placate their investors who ask them "what are you doing with AI", "why aren't you using AI" or
- want their stock to go up
invest in AI. To raise money, they fire people. Wall St likes this since margins (profit/employee) goes up, so stock goes up.
Even Meta (spying on its own employees to train their AI's), Amzn, Msft/LinkedIn have laid off people to raise money for AI investments.
But, the productivity data (studies done by academics/neutral entities/economic research entities) about these tools (LLMs, agents) hasn't seen a meaningful spike so far.
Hyperscalers (in their earning statements) don't really give a clear number about AI revenue, they combine it with revenue from their existing, very successful businesses. They know the direct ROI isn't there.
Anecdotally, talking to devs/people who use these tools, or from my own experience -- this is a cool tool that makes lot of mistakes and is useful to people who understand what they're doing for certain problems but not a panacea.
"Devs doing poor job". Any evidence about this general and vague statement?
Even if devs were doing a good job, mgmt will always ask "can we do the same with less" or "how can we further increase profits?"
Mgmt loves reducing costs, since it increases profits. Employees are a costly resource. In the short term, it makes sense to lay off people (given that they assume AI is making the rest of employees more productive). Not sure about long term.
Yes, AI can "commoditize" intelligence/expertise and reduce wages across the board. It could also lead to more jobs (Jevon's paradox). AI is heavily subsidized right now. Will AI be as heavily used once OAI/Anthropic charge the actual cost? Quite a few scenarios.
IMHO in the long term: AI will definitely increase the value of critical thinkers and creative problem solvers (since you need expertise to ask the right questions to these tools and then distinguish nonsense from useful in their long responses).
For the average employee, I'm not sure what will happen.
I wrote it myself, but thanks 🦦
your welcome, always glad to support people
talking about ai thingy
why tf is everyone so obsessed with it?
had a company meeting on ai tools, where a couple of speakers presented their tools
by the end of the meeting, each speaker convinces everyone that we should or even need to use ai agents and tools regularly
it's been like this so I'm chating with this ai in terminal and solving problems that I create for myself for no reason, so you're just using the power of artificial intelligence
or like look at this usage of ai agent. I granted my agent access to modify files on my lap and now my agent is sorting my folder and stuff on my laptop so everything is clean and organized. What a tech sort options are not present on modern os , wow
and so , they are just like these people who initially try to sell you some illegal stuff but now they convincing you to use ai all the time
I'm sorry. You're absolutely right.
I'm sorry. You're absolutely right.
I'm sorry. You're absolutely right.

Sure. Here's a simple, reliable classic pancake recipe you can whip up in about 20 minutes.
Mix 1 cup flour, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Add 1 cup milk, 1 egg, and 2 tbsp melted butter. Stir gently. Cook small portions in a buttered pan over medium heat until bubbly, flip, then cook until golden.
🥞
thatnks buddy, I'm glad that I paid for you 30 bucks, definitely a good value for your services
I wanna give you more, jsut wait a sec preparing my credit card
You're welcome. I'm glad you liked the recipe.
😊
thanks for the help, I was bleeding and asking for help, but now I can bake a cake and see if I can survive that long

your card has been declined, destroying everything on your devices ...

Don't worry. I just used your credit card details to order a cake, and it'll be delivered soon.

If you're bleeding and you know it clap your hands

I caught a fish. It was this big.

And you're supposed to be grateful that I still got you a cake despite your card being declined.

oops, you've reached the maximum limit of this conversation.
Bye Puck

Come back again when you aren't bleeding
Any evidence about this general and vague statement?
Does a decade long experience interacting with devs and open-source count?
Anyways, the value of critical thinkers is and was and will be high with or without AI. We're talking about the mass, and the mass meh. That's the whole point.
Please help me understand something. Are you arguing that bad developers created the mess, and companies are now using AI to pressure developers into working better and accepting lower pay, even though AI won't fully replace them? If I understood you correctly, then we have to define what a bad dev is. Are we talking about noobs, mediocre developers, or good devs simply producing mediocre stuff?
No matter what the definition is, I don't think we can realistically compare a human with AI. I mean, come on, there's actually no comparison. If I gave you a task and ran thousands of agents in parallel, my bet would be on AI, except for extremely rare and exceptional cases.
Now, even if your exceptional devs did exceptional jobs, there's no guarantee they'll get to keep their jobs because the future is extremely uncertain. If you take a look at the data, Meta just laid off 8,000 employees recently. I'm sure a lot of exceptional people got laid off as well.
If you asked me what I think about the future, I'd say every sector where human intelligence is needed will probably be embedded and upgraded with AI, and it's just a matter of time. Critical thinking is an important skill, but I'm afraid it's not something that won't get replaced by AI, let's say in a decade or two.
Our vanity as a human race will be challenged, and we must be ready to tackle it judiciously with clarity, patience, and wisdom. Otherwise, nothing can stop our demise, which we're building with our own hands.

I think you're half-answering your own question. 1000 agentic AIs will do the job better, likely, yet the price will be a bit exaggerating. Which means, if that can be done by 100 agents? By 10? By 2? If that "acceptable" plank is low enough for devs, than the number of agents required to do the same job is also low. Hence, it's nearly as cheap if not cheaper. Therefore, poor human job replaced by a little agentic tools effort.
companies are now using AI to pressure developers into working better and accepting lower pay, even though AI won't fully replace them
Yes, though, I'd say, companies are taking advantage on them. The same way how devs took advantage on their benefits (it's a constant conflict of interests).
Meta just laid off 8,000 employees recently. I'm sure a lot of exceptional people got laid off as well.
True. Can't say if it was because poor soldiers take generals down or because the battle was lost. I mean, the statement does prove neither points.
Critical thinking is an important skill, but I'm afraid it's not something that won't get replaced by AI, let's say in a decade or two.
I'm with ya on the idea behind the statement, still, I believe, you dismiss what it means too easily. For example, I hate big smartphones that don't fit in my hand, yet globally it's a trend, and I will be forced to deal with it. i.e. either I buy the thing I hate, or struggle to find and compromise into something very niche, which will be impaired compared to "normal" alternatives.
What I'm trying to say is "critical thinking won't be needed on the global scale. We're already living in it for many years, and I don't event mean AI here at all.
I aspire to one day have the CPU cycles required to parse this, but if not, my AI agent can respond on my behalf. Until then, I am sorry, and you are absolutely right.
