But there were other jobs made available for blacksmiths and people who worked in stables. Some of them might have been trained to work in car factories as horses were replaced. Now imagine most white-collar workers are out of work. Where is the replacement? Where are those promised jobs that AI is supposed to create? A monthly cheque (UBI?) from the government will not solve the underlying issue this time.

I don't think it'll work. Most likely that CEO who just fired people on a whim is already thinking about his next million-dollar bonus or planning to buy an island where he and his family can live for the rest of their lives with proper security and care. I know it's grim, but nobody cares whether we eat, starve, or get minced in a direct conflict with the machines. The trend isn't looking good. Job cuts and more job cuts. What will happen to these people and their families? Nobody knows.

I have 54 friends. 2 are family and 4 others I get messages from. The rest are just a list of people that I knew but still didn't communicate for more than a few days if ever.. I reject about 10 people a day, who just push the friend button on anyone they see.

I prefer to chat with people in the server, as I then know where they are from and how they connect with me. I read everything in this channel, and try to be friendly if I can with all (Including 'John'). I am happy to DM with people, but to be a friend, I need some social interaction first. Just me, maybe not the norm.

This is my home here. You are already a friend.

here are some of the best websites you should look for if you are interested in freelance/part-full time jb, :

General Job Boards:

  • Linkedin : Networking and professional jobs.
  • Indeed : General job searches.
  • Glassdoor : Companies and job searches.
  • SimplyHired : almost same as indeed but more like Part-time job listings.

Freelance Platforms :

  • Upwork : ofcourse u know it, freelance work in many industries.
  • Fiverr : Creative and digital services(this one you're more lucky if you are an artistcool_gurl).
  • Toptal : this one is more like a high-quality freelance work.
  • Freelancer : as the name suggest, a general freelance opportunities.
  • Guru : (I often heard people talk about it).

Remote Work Opportunities :

  • We Work Remotely : I think the best remote job searches.
  • Remote co : focuses on remote job listings, including part-time and freelance options.
  • FlexJobs : (subscription based service I guess, so only if u'r dead serious)
  • Working Nomads : curates remote job listings from various sources.

So each site has unique features that cater to different job types.

Some advice you might consider for better opportunities I would say:

  • stitch and tailor your resume and cover letter to match the specific job description.
  • Ensure your LinkedIn profile is professional, and better create an online portfolio showcasing your work (it could be as simple as a github page)
  • Again, Networking can often lead to job referrals. Participate in industry-related events, webinars, or meetups,..
  • Be open to exploring roles that may not be your first choice but could lead to good experience.
  • Understand that rejection is a part of the job search process.
  • More importantly do not compete just chill, take breaks, maintain a healthy mindset dud.

You should have datasets and current models should load this data and anylize then. If you have errors in your datasets - your neural network will be generate errors.

People just chat here about what they do, or push ideas etc. In the programming VCs, people often stream their coding, and discuss what they are doing or trying to do, so its good to see and interact there. So I am happy this morning. I solved the 2 night search to resolve the 100+ compiler errors issue. While there were a few folk who made some suggestions in the VC to no avail, a few minutes after leaving and going silent, I found the issue. An #include of the main class in the sub class headers was causing some sort of recursion or cyclic referencing. After removing the main.h from the 2 class headers, all went away and a 2nd run perfect program appeared, with the 100+ errors disappearing with a one line delete.

I'm starting to fear building this form. MY momentum is not enough to keep going, as my brain keeps pulling in things to do to make it usable. Alignment of the fields, event handlers for the fields, data validation, and associated routines, then If I manage to get a pice of data from the user, I now need to shove this into the database, and build the relationships, match existing reference data or put in handlers to add new rows to the referred tables, and this is just to get some data into the program. I still haven't even got to the processing or output. so much typing. Its strange because it doesn't feel like the space game program. That seemed to go very easily, perhaps because it was just manipulating screen output, with a basic command set. So light on the input, heavy on the output.

Hi there Heroki here I am looking for a programmer/partner

I am following a roadmap on a paid platform called boot.dev that is teaching me the core languages for backend development in a fun and engaging way however I realized that I would learn more and it would be fun to build small projects based on what I am learning with someone else

As for what I am trying to do I have not decided upon that yet because I do not have enough experience or know what things can be achieved that will make a big impact and not be a waste of time

Hey Heroki. I have just started a personal project. It may not be exactly what you would like, but I think there are a few simple ideas of the same complexity that you might like to try for yourself. I am using a different language (C++) but will be including SQLite as the database, and using the wxWidgets library. While there is practically no overlap with you, apart from SQL, and that C++ and python are basically the same apart from a few differences (cough), and as you haven't learned Javascript yet, so filling your time either doing that or just seeing if you can pick up the Widgets right now for some GUI programming experience, I can offer some guidance on what typically should go into the guts of a real program, as I slowly move through learning this stuff myself. My similarity to you is I am just starting with these three components, and so am at the same level as you with this project, but on the other hand have used lots of other languages and DBs and OPsystems. Let me know if you are interested in chatting / working on a parallel project. (what am I doing 🦐 whyy BirbNotes )

#

If you're building a GUI IDE (for wxWidgets or any other tool), Qt provides a more robust, scalable, and feature-rich environment with a lot of tools to help you design, implement, and optimize your application efficiently. It also offers the benefit of a large ecosystem, mature support, and higher-level abstractions that save you time in building your own tools and components.

Let this be a lesson for all you server folk. When setting up redundancy/mirroring, consider sticking you mirror in a different DC building
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=j454KF26IWw

A fire at a South Korean state data centre brought hundreds of domestic services to a standstill for days. Investigators suspect a battery fire caused the outage, with some government services expected to remain unavailable for weeks. Journalist Raphael Rashid tells Asia News Week's Yvonne Yong the outage has caused chaos across the country.

We use redundant fibre connections to our datacentres and have mirrored equipment across multiple sites. With redundant links between sites.

#

So if a dc burns down we keep going, and if a road digger cuts our fiber, there is another running elsewhere between us and our data.

I know it’s probably gonna sound mad but think about the absolute worst outcome, which is not getting the job. Once you accept that, the pressure drops because there’s nothing left to fear. That mental clarity helps you focus on what actually matters, like solving problems, showing your reasoning, and being present. Has anyone ever used langchain.js here?

#

Okay i am still telling you guys the issue I'm facing creepy

#

I've this basic langchain.js setup here trying to get back simple text from a LLM using the langchain's community version of Huggingface Inference

import { HuggingFaceInference } from "@langchain/community/llms/hf";

const model = new HuggingFaceInference({
  model: "meta-llama/Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct",
  apiKey: process.env.HF_TOKEN,
});
const res = await model.invoke("1 + 1 =");
console.log({ res });
#

The issue is it gets stuck to a loop of auto provider selection for a while and it always selects the "fireworks-ai" provider(even tho I've disabled that in inference provider settings).
Then after this i get an error telling me that the provider doesn't support the provided task(text-generation) , The available task is "conversational"(is depreciated).

And another thing is there isn't a way to specify the task in langchain's HuggingfaceInference class.

Is this a langchain's problem or from huggingface, i am pretty confused

So I was on leave for a couple of weeks, and then forgot my work password which is basically the same for 15 years. Getting too old. Timed out my login attempts on my laptop, so had to go into the office, get IT to reset my password on my desktop there, then the password didn't move to my laptop through the company wifi, so Win 11 bitlockered my machine on the next attempt. So I was back onto IT support, and had to get a bitlocker code. Then the password compliance for WIN 11 wouldnt accept my new password structure (history, length characters or whatever.) IT support reset it again, said give is a couple of hours. I did and it still failed, and the reset and said wait until tmorrow when there is time for the Group management to port itself accross the network. Well two days back and all ive done is try and reset my password. Then again in the evening bitlocker tried to lock up another machine, cause was trying to access bios settings. MVS/CICS running COBOL is easier to use than Win 11

I don't know exactly, but the current data is quite concerning. If Amazon permanently decides to use robots in its operations, other companies will follow suit. They've already deployed hundreds of thousands of robots in their warehouses globally, and now some people are talking about introducing some form of universal income. If work were to become optional, it could be catastrophic for those who define themselves through their jobs. Even if we just gave them a cheque every month, they'd probably feel a pang of regret, as in their minds, they're not doing anything productive and are simply receiving free money, which could lead to dark places. However, some people have a healthy work-life balance and would welcome the upcoming changes, as they'd have more time to do what they actually enjoy rather than just working to make ends meet.

austere gate
# leaden sleet Musk lost money and the credit

Yeah, I've read the emails they released. Elon was kinda doubtful about OpenAI making it and wanted to merge it with Tesla, but Sam and the rest weren't having it, which basically kicked off the fallout. Imagine putting up tens of millions to build an open-source non-profit to take on Google so they wouldn't control every bit of AI progress, then finding yourself pushed out of your own project. Not only would you feel betrayed, but you'd also be angry.

#

I get that OpenAI needs money to operate, but you can't just turn a non-profit into a max-profit company while Microsoft owns 49%. That's pretty dodgy if you ask me.

pure copper
#

Those look like Peo posts

austere gate
#

Anyway, I forgot to quote this in my message, "When your identity is fused with your output, any threat to your job feels like a threat to your worth—psychologists refer to this as 'role fusion.'"

I think many people become so attached to their jobs that losing them feels like losing their sense of meaning or purpose. They often become complacent and never explore other paths.

#

And if they get replaced by AI, no matter how much free money we give them, they're cooked.

# pure copper Look up the 'Swedish' guaranteed income, and see how its benefited/not

This is what ChatGPT just told me: Several semi-permanent UBI studies show benefits without reducing employment. Germany’s Mein Grundeinkommen (2019–2022) gave 122 participants €1,200/month, improving mental health, financial stability, and autonomy. Kenya’s GiveDirectly project (2016–2028) provides 12-year UBI to 44 villages, 2-year UBI to 80 villages, and lump sums to 71 villages, boosting business creation, food security, and well-being. Ireland’s artist pilot (2022–2026) gave €325/week to 2,000 artists, reducing stress, improving mental health, and increasing output, becoming permanent in 2026. US city pilots in Minneapolis (1 year), Franklin County, Ohio (11 months), and Mountain View, California (2 years, ending 2024) improved quality of life, financial stability, and mental health. Overall, multi-year UBI delivers significant social and economic benefits without lowering work participation.

#

And Elon just tweeted: "AI and robots will replace all jobs. Working will be optional, like growing your own vegetables, instead of buying them from the store."

pure copper
#

That is what I had read a while back. But its really a different way of living for both those from under the UBI and those from above the UBI that would have to live at that rate. Perhaps the longer term problems would arise if everyone had the same, and knew the government was restricting or giving more to the elite controllers.

#

Or if the barter system worked its way in and peoplle became more jealous at other peoples skills and entrepreneurial abilities

austere gate
#

Me every time someone talks about implementing UBI:

pure copper
#

The Morlocks in control

austere gate
#

I don't think UBI will work because it humiliates those who work hard and contribute more to society. If everyone gets free money and work becomes optional, what will people do? Not everyone has the drive to pursue skillful and productive things regardless of pay. Will they just watch TikTok? Plot against the government, or slowly waste away?

pure copper
#

BUt you are still linking the money to the work. (thinking)... Well if there is no one working, then they do not earn money, so there is no need for teh UBI either

Also, I can't wait for deploying highly trained robots for disabled people. Their lives would change instantly. Imagine a blind person with a personal robot, it's a complete game changer, though the robots would need almost supernatural capabilities.

pure copper

💃

austere gate
pure copper
austere gate
# pure copper Why supernatural

Because it needs to understand more than a human being and adapt to changes faster, I hope it will have a new form of general intelligence or something close. Otherwise, it could endanger not only the person it assists but also others in the environment.

#

One thing I saw recently almost blew my mind. Tesla updated their autopilot, and the car, driving in the middle of the night, stopped almost instantly for a tiny kitten crossing the road. It was so small that a human wouldn’t have reacted fast enough to save it.

pure copper
pure copper
#

I would hope so. I have to stop freqently for little wild animals on the road in this country. Dont want bots ignoring them after all these years of trying to get humans to take care

#

So our company just released an email saying they now have an internal AI for internal use. But not to be fooled by the other icons MS puts on the screens and opsystem. Even though its just another version of copilot. I'm sure we will have lots of leaks, and no real use until it gathers all our knowledge and they can fire us.

I want to choose a programming language which i can use it for robotics and also learn stuff, which python doesn't usually show as a High level language

Hello

haughty agate
#

da hell u doing here

#

learn c++ if u wanna do robotic stuff that's basically hardware stuff which is usually done by c/c++

#

and java is great but the jvm overhead makes it slow in comparision

#

so its not used for low-level stuff where we need to save every bit of memory and data

#

and c++ provides great support for low level stuff with libs so

Could you please help me in my Programming journey. Nowadays I am learning Advance C, Networking (CCNA). I have basic knowledge of python and javascript.

I want to know whether I should go into development or not? And if not then what should I do instead of development?
