Heyy guys computer engineer spotted

Hello

pure copper
#

Who called?

#

What question do we await?

covert birch
#

Hello king/queen/monarch

#

Are you good with pc's

#

More specifically, BIOS settings

pure copper
#

What about them. I haven't seen a bios setting in almost 2 weeks

#

And they were 25 years old

covert birch
#

Holy moly

#

I was going to ask if you knew why my pc won't boot if I enable "fast boot". It's supposed to be a good thing, enabling faster boot since win 11 is slow as shit, but it literally won't post and I have to clear cmos to save it and boot up

#

It makes 0 sense, I've googled and all components are compatible with it

#

Is win 11 just that shit?

pure copper
#

I am staring at the wall thinking back a couple of years when I did that stuff last......

#

I vaguely have a snippet in my brain that win11/ fastboot had a problem. But I haven't got to win11 yet, so you are telling me first.

covert birch
#

I'd switch to linux and avoid all of this but I only use my pc to occasionally play games and using linux would get me banned

covert birch
pure copper
#

Is the booting device configured for fast boot?

covert birch
pure copper
#

Get you banned from what?

covert birch
#

I doubt you'd even be able to play online to begin with

pure copper
#

Are you referencing the correct partition on the boot device?

pure copper
#

Any beep codes?

#

Does it boot in slow boot to win 11.?

#

I assume so

#

If no post, you must be getting some beep errors.

#

I think you have crashed also.

RANT!

#

these idiots decided to completely end this service that their customers are using in production

#

how could you trust these companies after pulling shit like that

#

i made a product using this service a while back and now i gotta refactor all of that just in a month

#

even with the community version of this service, there isn't support to actually sync the local data with the remote database. so a swap with another service isn't possible. gotta refactor all of that

#

and the funniest thing is they haven't even provided an alternative solution for this. let the community sort that out? damn

#

who knows maybe in the future, they might even pull the plug on a different service that aint making 'em profits. greedy fks

#

vendor lock-in is indeed a curse

#

this doesn't even necessarily apply to MongoDB, even google is known for killing their products so we're hesitant choosing firebase as an alternative

#

and moving to postgres from mongodb would require a heavy refactor which we dont have the time for lol

short wraith
#

hiii

winged valley
#

the problem is they're already vendor locked-in to the cloudflare workers environment, which dont even use nodejs runtime. they have their own little runtime platform thats not compatible with nodejs

#

but i think they recently introduced nodejs runtime env as well so ill try that. and try installing the native mongodb driver there 🤷‍♂️

#

anywho

sqlite

#

a bit of homemade sync code never hurt anyone

winged valley
pure copper
#

I am learning it now. Or at least the sdk. for c++.

#

Its one of the biggest db in the world for stand alone stuff. and other junk too

#

and opensource

winged valley
#

interesting

#

SQLite does not compete with client/server databases. SQLite competes with fopen().

#

the backend architecture for the product in question is edge computing. so imagine a CDN, but each edge location is a serverless environment ready to handle your request if it reaches there

#

same code is deployed all over the edge locations

#

so having a local database in every edge server is not an option

#

but the irony is our database is central. so whats the point if the backend is an edge computing serverless architecture but the db server is hosted somewhere in australia, for example. it doesn't improve latency because of the db location bottleneck

#

thats where edge databases come into play

#

but they're not using that, oh well

But this time they offered an alternative solution, YouTube Music, which is 🗑️ in my humble opinion.

We're just starting to see an introduction to software architecture in the object-oriented development course. We've already gone over design patterns, but I'm a bit lost when it comes to how the SOLID principles connect with the patterns and now with architecture. I feel like we're moving too fast, and it's really hard for me to explain it in a technical way. 😵

#

Do you have any video or bibliography that explains all this theory more clearly? Or any advice to understand it better?

pure copper
# spark silo We're just starting to see an introduction to software architecture in the objec...

Unfortunately OO for must developers turns into a complex programming challenge of building classes and making objects, but it's really detached from the expectations of the end use. Regardless of how beautiful you make your oo, the end user will never see it. If the code works on a single functional level, that is sufficient. Try for the KISS (keep it simple stupid) principle. Only do the OO to the level already defined by the organization you work for, or if you are building something solo, don't go too deep with the objects. Just aim for the input -> process-> output, and finish the requirements from the user.

#

Work out your data and data flows. Define an entity relation diagram for your data(base) first and work from that.

winged valley
#

lol i feel ya. i want to learn to build ai models from scratch but im not finding the motivation to do so

#

then i gotta sharpen up my c++ skills. last time i wrote a program in cpp was 10 years ago

#

i also wanna learn ada now

#

maybe try building your program when you start your day. at the end of the day is just too much, gotta catch a break yk

#

on a side note, my migration from realm to native mongodb is going well. since im incorporating it in an edge architecture, we cant leverage connection pooling

#

so each request has its own db connection

#

so gotta find a way to make it efficient

#

mongo is not designed for edge architecture so its not easy to use connection pooling there

#

i should deploy an image categorization or recognition (whatever the term is) ai model locally because its getting difficult to find an image by just the file name

#

ive seen someone use it and it works really well

#

one usecase is that, you took a lot of screenshots and now want to search a specific one based on the text content or object in that image

In architecture hexagonal (adapters) where should it go the jwt configuration

#

Application or infraestructure?

winged valley
#

i just skimmed through this article

#

so jwt configurations (like a secret key) are usually stored in a secret store

#

which is a part of the infrastructure

#

and your business logic must not be mixed in with external sources

#

so what if in the future you guys decide to change the implementation of the secret store? in doing so, it must not force you guys to change your business logic

#

funny thing is im leveraging this pattern without knowing it exists lol

#

now i know angel

fair robin
#

Oh, yep. In hexagonal architecture, you can isolate the domain with the business logic. But I understand that in the infrastructure layer, we should put the controllers, drivers (ORM, connection to DB, Kafka, other event drivers), and DTOs. In the application layer, we put all the configuration (like transactional settings), for example, exception handlers, Swagger config, beans, components, and other configurations. That’s why I’m asking this question

#

sure if we are talking about a not serverless aplication jeje

#

because in the articule of aws, secrete manager , key manager and another security and encription services i understand they are IASS ( infraestructure)

winged valley
# fair robin Oh, yep. In hexagonal architecture, you can isolate the domain with the business...

i think the jwt is external because it interacts with external services and also reaches the client. maybe you dont even need the raw jwt inside your business logic, just the decoded data will do (after verifying it from the external layer yk). imagine, do you really think your business logic needs to know what the security key or the jwt algorithm is? or even what jwt library is being used?

Earlier this week, OpenAI admitted, in an addendum buried in the middle of a lengthy blog post about ChatGPT's propensity for severe mental health harms, that it plans to assess and potentially report to police anything a human reviewer deems sufficiently threatening. Upon discovering this troubling sidebar, Futurism reached out to OpenAI to ask...

austere gate
# winged valley yay another spyware

Who would've thought? Jk lol I knew it was coming, which is why I try not to share personal information with any proprietary AI service. Some people are definitely in trouble. Imagine one day you say something controversial to ChatGPT, and the next morning a three-letter agency shows up at your door. Sounds far-fetched? Just look at what's happening in the UK. Comedians are getting arrested over controversial tweets. Now they're going to use AI to monitor everything, and if they decide you crossed a line by accident, well, that's jail time.

winged valley
#

1 step forward, 3 steps back

#

the possibility of this company directly installing spyware into your brain is scary too

austere gate
# winged valley https://neuralink.com/

I’ve talked about Neuralink before. I think they’re mainly trying to present themselves as a medical device company to help people with disabilities, which I find commendable.

#

And they can’t force people to have a chip implanted in their brain, but that doesn’t mean some other company, let’s say from China, wouldn’t.

#

I hope I’m wrong, but it’s very likely they’ll create a social pressure scenario, like how techbros say nowadays that if you don’t use AI, you’re falling behind. What would stop them from saying that if you don’t get the chip now, you’ll be at a disadvantage?

blazing wagon

Me coding friendo how are you guys

austere gate
# winged valley so who knows what the future holds

And you’ll be like, oh well, my buddy Jimmy got the chip, his buddy Timmy got the chip, so I might get the Flex5000 now and my insurance will cover it. At first, you’ll probably notice an illusion of a quick intelligence boost, like you can fetch information faster, organise your thoughts faster. I know it sounds sci-fi at this point lol. But just wait for them to show you an intrusive ad inside your brain, or maybe in your sleep or dreams. Or they could paywall some new features, and if you can’t pay for the latest brain upgrade, you’ll be dumber than your peers. Or you might get arrested just for having a thought about toppling your government.

"Rectangular" takes you on a heartwarming journey through the eyes of someone playing with a child's toy box, filled with holes for shapes. Just like those shapes, sometimes, we all feel like we don't quite fit in. This song beautifully reminds...

I can't answer the questions because I don't know exactly what to respond about it. However I will try to do it. I am willing to spend a bunch of hours in order to learn how to code as well as I learn english I want to do the same on programming.

I hope to build a profession given that I spend almost my entire life in front of the screen so I want to make money being with that.

My goal would be; becoming a programmer (the most required area by the companies in order to get a Job and meanwhile developing other skills or knowledge about programming such as learning diferent kind of cod programs and in this way I may be able to choose the prefered brench.

Most companies work in a particular language/DB etc within the team you are being selected for. In advertising the role, they should be telling candidates what they want. If they didn't, then you probably should not waste your time applying, as it could be a brick layer for all you know. Look for jobs that match your skills. If you are a java programmer, then search for jobs with the word 'java' in the requirements. If you apply for a job in another language to the one you know, then you will need to convince them that you can adapt quickly due to your fast learning and excellent understanding of programming concepts. Hopefully you have been working on your own programming projects at home and this helps to show your dedication to the profession and that you are likely to know something other than what was taught generally at college/uni. That is you can actually create something without being supervised, and know what a program actually is and how to make one for yourself.

Great. Then it is not too late to start programming. In fact, if you give up the video games and start programming by writing your own games, no matter how simple the first games are. You will have a good understanding by the time you get to college/uni, and can stay ahead of the others in your age group. The programs you start writing now and improving on over the next few years will turn you into a powerhouse programmer by the time you start your first professional job. Understand the hardware also. This will keep you in touch with the machine and give you a better understanding of why and what you are working for.

# stark dragon By the way I have 0 of knowledge about programming

I think that's a great opportunity to learn more about programming. You can go to LinkedIn and use different filters to see which skills are in demand. Most importantly, don't start learning a programming language just because someone else told you to. For example, if you asked me which one to learn, I'd probably say Python. Someone else might say JavaScript, C++, Rust, or something else entirely. There's no way of knowing whether you'll actually like them, so the best thing you can do is try. Don't commit to something you don't understand yet. Let's say you have a month to explore. Do your research. Do you want to build web applications, AI-powered systems, desktop applications, video games, or something else? Once you know that, pick three languages that fit those goals, watch some videos, talk to ChatGPT, and explore. I hope you get the idea.

# stark dragon I heard you need to have a grown knowledge of data and things like that to work ...

Like all areas of computing, security requires your passion, then your 3 or 4 years of college/uni, t learn what computers all all about, but with some additional focus on the ways computers fail and are vulnerable to bugs and mistakes etc. Then you graduate and get your first job, but you will not be a coloured hat hacker of any sort. You will start out working with the administration of the computing assets of your company. Managing spreadsheets of software installed, version numbers, patch releases, hardware components etc. Then your big hands on will be downloading the patches and updates for all of these bits and ensuring they are installed on the assets. This will include desktop apps, databases, cisco routers or whatever hardware is used. You may participate in formulating exercises for the business users to test if they will fall for email phishing occasionally, but basically its an administration position, requiring little real knowledge of any code issues, as these are done by the programmers of the software packages that are being used. You may need to read the websites and forums and keep an eye out for notices etc, and pass these on to the boss to ensure they are checked within your environment. Your own passion and reading over many years following graduation, may give you some experience to start identifying issues in your organization, by yourself without being asked to or being directed. One day you may feel you have some specialized knowledge and those years of spreadsheet management, may allow you to run a team in another business, or if you are truely a hacker, maybe get a higher paying role. This is 10-15 years post graduation - age 35-45 or even later in age.

Yes, work on your own project(s). build something exciting to keep you interested. You will be learning by doing this. Also apply for jobs. When they ask about experience, tell them that you write your own applications, and tell them about what you are doing, why and the challenges you have had. They will appreciate that you are passionate about development, and not just sitting around playing video games. They understand that the people they are hiring are new to the field, so if you can be working on things, even if not for money, they will look on this favourably.

You should build a few unique real world projects. It’s better to focus on three or four solid ones than a bunch of cookie-cutter projects that are just a Google search away or could be built by an AI in a couple of hours. The job market is pretty grim right now, so make the effort to reach out to people on LinkedIn or through your network. Don’t turn down internships if you’re offered any, because they’ll give you valuable experience. Show them you’re passionate about this. Best of luck.

There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube teaching how to do it. But if you are new to Linux too, I recommend starting with a more simple distro, like Ubuntu or Mint

pure copper
# silk karma I want shift windows to linux..give me the guidelines

Consider, duel boot, or replacement. I had 9 pages of steps for adding Linux mint as a duel boot. I did it for two machines and they had completely different challenges. I use the Linux boot manager, as I didn't trust windows to one day Allow other op systems to work with it. I feel they will not share devices in the future.

#

You will need to shuffle your disk configuration around. A bit. Maybe reduce the windows partition, and or make a common partition both can access, although both systems should still be able to see the others partitions regardless.

Also, you'll find plenty of tutorials online, but I have to stress one thing, always back up your data, I mean it. Even if everything goes smoothly, you never know what could happen. Make sure to back up everything before you start the process of migrating from Windows to Linux.

pure copper
#

Yes, buy a new disk to back up everything. Dont forget your application configuration files, and all the nice hidden directories.

#

Nothing worse than trying to restore application configurations and pointers from memory. Also theer are plenty of open source applications for the disk management, to help you set up the partitions etc. There were a couple of youtube videos I watched that explained most of the potential issues I may encounter, but it was not as easy as just following a video unfortunately. There was one point where I was entering the binary for the disk bootstrap, which I last did back in the late 80's when I worked with Unix.

so basically i have a function that will take like 5 queries in total or could be done in just one complex query. is it better to implement with complex query or 5 queries? in terms of speed i guess complex query wins, but in terms of maintainability and stuff 5 queries is better.

can someone give me insight?

pure copper
#

Ive seen the difference of 5 nice separate queries vs 1 complex, and when I had done this (similarly) it was like microseconds vs 20 seconds.

But run some stats and do the timings on the queries, and multiply this by users * access count

Also build some indexes on your data if they don't exist.

A complex query will do all of the data crunching within the database and then send the result. A 5 part will require the parts to be sent over the network and then merged or resent back to the db over the net for each part, so much slower also.

intuitively complex query is the answer

you may need to test for the difference

"Over the past year, we have implemented many AI projects across our organisation," Kaufman wrote. "We've witnessed firsthand how AI can automate and streamline processes, liberate humans from manual and tedious tasks."

He said the company evaluated what AI could do and reached a clear conclusion: "As we evaluate what has been done and what can be done, we believe we don't need as many people to operate the existing business."

All the money the companies make now should be taxed at 95% to provide social income for the population, that has now been freed to relax and enjoy the sunshine. There is no need for money to stay in companies. They will only exist to be tools for society. Even better is not to tax them. There are no humans that need money within the companies, so they can just exist and provide free services for mankind so humans can relax in the sun, while the machines sit in the background doing the mundane activities, we all don't need to be doing.

We just need to nationalize them from the trillionaire owners, that also dont need that much money.
