It's natural. If you gave an efficient programmer a task and a blank sheet of paper, they'd probably start with a brute force approach at the very least. At first, just focus on understanding the basics thoroughly. Then, when you're building projects and get stuck, try to recall what you've learnt without googling. Only look up reference material once you've made a proper effort and feel genuinely stuck. Good luck.

When you get a job, 99% of the work will be with classes and code that has already been developed for the applications. You just add or remove small amounts of new code from what is there. It's rare to just build an application from an empty page. If you are told to make a class or function, it will be defined in a requirements sheet for you, usually the interface and what the code should do.

Starting an app at home is always hard as it's completely unstructured, and will tend to be very messy in the end as you think of things you should have done, could have done or didn't do.

I will be starting the project I mentioned above in the next few days. I have coded for decades, but after a few months without coding and I still forget things. Don't panic. It will get better as you do more and more. Generally you can also template from other code that has been developed already, so it's easy to follow a standard. It's also ready to remember what you forget as there is plenty of code already in front of you on a business application, to just remember how to build a loop or handle a string or whatever.

Start ups are already started by the boss who had the idea. The code will be started at least. Sure in small businesses you may be the only cider and may have to do a lot more innovation. My second job was the only computer guy with geologists and I created all applications from nothing. When there's as need, elegance is not essential.
