#Roast My Image™
1 messages · Page 4 of 1
Why would int time affect the clarity of the image it's not like its noisy or anything
How much would it compared to something like a fringe killer?
Yeah it was a stacked image
more light from target allows for more contrast before it becomes noisy
No i think its just processing his stars are desaturated
It looks like if you used inverse GHS
It has a similar look to it
You made an emission nebula look like a dark nebula.
Tbf it was barely any integration
That was where it first went wrong
ron? is that you?
Nah that low-key looks cool
yo who tf is ron 💔
even ron can get better images
Is this worse than Alex Woronow
Its roast my image not compliment it
Please roast it to the maximum
i honestly thought those were terrible gradients, i do think there is some gradienting but its okayish ig, hella over denoised and theres ugly stars in the corners
Denoised cuz i didnt ditger
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain how much this wants makes me to rip my eyes out

Ffom my pic?
no, i took it
No way
?
i cant see it
polaris is too stretched to see it
yea, its not there
How long lens did i have
?????
Mm?
I think they have an RC 6, which is No Lens but a reflector telescope with a focal lenght of 1370ish mm ?
Could be wrong tho

no, i have a 6" newt with an fl of 750mm
Well i stand corrected 🙂
do it. roast my image
Weird color palette
The solar pallet™ looks better
diffraction spikes are peak
too much btx
lmao
you the new fray balls

its the hairnet nebula!
I prefer hairball, but you go tea!
it always reminds me of hairnets not whatever people say they look like
Wonder what blurx would do to the image tbh
Haven't run it
And it's pretty old
oh noes
i mean it looks ok…
"we have Crescent Nebula at home"
The crescent nebula at home
c shape nebula
Roast 😭
that veil looks so sad😭 ts making me depressed
the Veil and Crescent are sad if you don't use narrowband tbh
im crine
what are we looking at mr bob
I believe the technical term for it is an "image"
youtube 3i atlas alien ai slop channels:
how tje fck did you make that so quick
"Roast"
🥰🥰
"roast" twin that looks like coal 😭 ✌️ 🌾
did you put these through the cremator
this went through a cremator as well
I think no one is getting my roast
so much noise in this image i've gone deaf before you even thought about posting it
I'm either hallucinating or I see the tiniest sign of horse
I feel like I see it
noise?? 😭
can you not tell how much its denoised
Can’t believe you’ve gone deaf too..
You can’t even notice it yourself?
damn
I can see flame
But barely
vro you should put it down atp
All the gear, none of the brains
buddy you can't background extract your way out of not taking flats and into being a good astrophotographer
why is is it blueeeee
I know rigjt
blue shuldnt be geem
They should change the pride flag to this image since it has more representation
ive never seen a duller orion in my life😭
What is that
i think everyone would rather be cishet than have that as a flag
i love how the pics people post here are so much better than anything ive managed to achieve so far 😭
brown dwarf roleis back???
my horrible untracked A3 Atlas from last year (the original edit looked a lot worse, believe or not)
least i managed to capture it
What?
ha get scatted on
I did a thing
You realise there’s more to astrophotographer than point and shoot right
phone ap
is this a roast of my editing
cuz i can assure you the data is just garbage too lol
its a genuine question
did you stack
or is it just a single image
oh mb i thought i included that info in the original msg
this is a reprocess of the data back when i had no idea what i was doing (started off just doing regular photography before astro) where i managed to after some difficulty to stack a few frames which did give me somewhat of a better result compared to the original
but the original data is just so bad that its kinda hopeless...
ohh
Do your worst
the horses ass nebula
you created this, thats a toast in itself
holy diffraction spike
Would you like some nebula with your diffraction spikes?
The image is too good for a legit roast
Yall know you can’t control diffraction spikes
yes
curved spikes
genuinely this process isn’t it cheif
denoise is way to strong, the details are cooked, the ha looks fake and alnitak is not making it easier
The first good roast
Do better then
i’ll have a go at that one
@tribal saffron
that's me
the "good" version
the glare is on par with ARK
Bro that image was 2 months ago 😭 🙏
have you discovered dithering yet
Yes I have
And i have an actual eq mount now
good use it
I did
Diabolical 💀
Can't seem to get the stupid masking and weird distortion fixed.... I'm still a fresh beginner 😔
nothing a couple rounds of graxpert cant fix
Unfortunately I have no PC available :)
please do not run multiple rounds of graxpert 😭
The power of cropping
From Bortle 5
Nothing to roast here
Really? 🥺
Ofc
There's something to roast here
Oh no now I’m getting roasted
Can’t find anything to roast honestly 😭
most generic DSO
most generic Processing
most generic Data
OMG! ANDROMEDA AT 200 MILLIMETERS WITH A ONE-SHOT COLOR CAMERA, I'VE NEVER SEEN AN IMAGE LIKE THIS
LMAO
Someone wanted to be special and still chose the most default target. And why tf does it make the nice blues of Orion look grey
Ik I might sound extremely stupid but why are the stars red
The image maps IR to the red channel and H-alpha to green and blue
Zoom in
What am I looking for?
Well yeah I noticed the blue was very imminent but it isn't that big
Look in the background there is blue red and green streaks and blobs
Ohhh I see now you're right

that's because nobody cares about generic images of Andromeda.
There are lots of green blobs
You spent money on IR equipment to make ur stars an ugly red
i see someone isnt a fan of the pretty red stars
Who tf would make money to change the hue of their starmask to red
I can do that in gimp

your stars wont be in ir tho
Good lord they shine in full spectrum who cares
the dust
Yeah but you got uvir cut soo not full spectrum
Well no one can capture full spectrum
Don’t think there is cameras that can detect meter long wavelengths
They dont emit radio waves well they do but its not their main emissions they do it in burst and its not from the surface its more of an emission from their magnetic fields
Their majority of emissions is in the ir-uv range
Wait
No
Doesn’t it emit everywhere
According to Plancks law
Just very „dim“
No
It way too hot
And way too cold for x rays and gamma rays
Plancks law is differentiable and continuous and obviously positive though right?
So wouldn’t every blackbody emit in every frequency
Or is this just for an assumed perfect blackbody?
I should know this I’m studying physics haha
You are kind of correct it should emit across the entire spectrum but at a certain temperature the fraction of light that is emitted as long wavelengths drops so low like 0.000000000000001% that its basically 0
Also here is the formula if you want to have some fun I'm like 90% sure it the right one
Ig it will be zero because the energy is quantitized?
No that’s the wrong one
yea thats the wrong one
thats Stefan Boltzmann Law
for thermal radiation
This one doesnt even tell you what wavelength the radiation is Q is only the Total power output
for wavelength there is the Reyleight-Jeans Criterion. Which is wrong because it leads to infinite Energy if you integrate over the Ultra Violet part (Ultra Violet catastrophe)
The right one is Plancks Law which accounts for the Quantization of Energy and therefore makes the total energy of the cruve finite
yeah i had my doubts
exactly how i wouldve put it
@strange pivot send it
Bro wants carnage
A perfect edit was RIGHT there like seriously this has so much potential but no you completely ruined it and have shown your incredible ability to produce shit from gold
More pale than Atlanta
more pale than badunkie looking in the mirror on a summers day
Okok I’m not even that pale
Sorry for being white
Wow, rude. Go process the data yourself then
#1444461927882293333
Speaking of which @zenith fossil if you wanted to roast my image you could’ve done that like just after I processed it not now that I’m proud of it
I’d rather wait to see your monstrosities final form
Bruh
There’s a fine line between roasting and just being a dick bro
statistically the best thread on astrobiscuit
I am happy with my image bro don’t change that

Cope and seethe
Well, good thing you're winning Roast My Image™ because if you were entering one of the competitions you run you'd end up in last place every time
-# Sorry that wasn't an image I just felt spicy
Maybe you have deuterantropia?
Or ya monitor is just ass
amoled its pretty good
It is common for OLED and AMOLED display to have green tint
guess every screen in my house has a green tint cuz it looks the same on them other than saturation differences
Saddest crescent you will ever see, stock dslr, no filter, full moon, 5 hours
Did anybody else say that or is it just you?
Might needa get your eyes checked 😭
guess it might be ur eyes then
bro, you where NOT supposed to roast ur own image
also , I HAVE SEEN WORSE
I HAVE SEEN WORSE
HOW?
Look the one I linked up there haha
does it have an iron deficiency
boneless crescent
are you trying to make pixel art with this compression?
wait its a png
how the hell did you make a png look like a crappy jpg
Suppose thats insulting discord more than him
yes
Im a suckered for orion, besides the fact you decided not enough integration would suffice
this isnt even a roast i just want to know
Its been compressed twice thru discord
my processing is what's terrible
Share data
I need to restack it first
@north juniper
Mb forgot
Its 3am rn so ill do it tonight
Ykno, after my day
Not like tonight as in rn
Alright
Forgot to crop a bit in top corner other than that i cant complain
show what you mean pls?
ohhh i see
Top right corner
stacking artefacts
Ik
Oh and also some hot pixels
true i found a coupl ejust then
Roast my Honse
long
how even do this?
Ask @cloud edge
Whatever he did to my image, it definitely looks much honsier 🤣
Ask asifits viewer, setting it to bin2 did whatever that was
A masterpiece... that's what it is
these colours are dreadfull to say the least
honse (5min)
Wrong. That's Honse (200 minutes)
honse (honse minutes
Oh nice I hadn’t seen this here
I won’t comment however, I don’t want to hurt your feelings.
Actually why lol I don’t get why everyone think that the colors are off
We love crescent
The booger cluster
Someone in a Facebook group couldnt tell it was Crescent for a minute cause its that bad 😂
Damn
Tbf it was my first night using the uranus C with my telescope
But yeah its bad
Here guys roast my reworked pacman. Its 2 hours
And here's the original to laugh at even more
w unfry
Yeah I really needed more/better data to sharpen it some 😔
😭
fym 200 seconds unguided
unguided like no guidecam
Very successful comment should have its own hall of roasts
much like the inside of your skull, your images are all an amorphous blob of gray
Your background and details are almost as smooth as your brain
they look like my untracked images from 2023
which specifically
herbig harrow object!!!!
Another red blob
alnitak attack
oh no a large diffraction spike from a super bright star, guess my secondary is cnc'ed well
Doesn't even need to be cnc'ed 3d print can do the same
i dont have petg and dont want my scondary to one day slip off into my primary
Why would it slip off
warping in uv light
Tbh my biggest concern is the spider breaking when I collimate but thats an easy fix just hold the secondary while collimating i made mine from petg and this is the result altho i think I'm gonna reprint it
yeah petg is the only real choice and i dont have any and cant be shat bc id rather have a block of steel for 2x the price of a roll
also if you can print your secondary you should invest in baffles as well
Although idk why i have that halo
Yeah i was gonna do that
reflections
you need baffles, a mirror mask, and flocking on the spider and focusser
I have a mirror mask installed still need to get flocking paper and somehow figure out a design for baffles
what are your scope specs?
I got 150p quattro
Other than the fact that it has a crap ton of light leak
you can make a cap for the back of the primary?
Yeah but the focuser has a gap
flocking?
Idk that might work but i was thinking of just 3d printing a ring thag just block the gap entirely
Also reflections from what can't be my uvir or coma corrector i removed both and its still there in the process discovering that the mirror mask makes me have zero coma lmao
Yup isn't the same on all the quattro line ups
isnt?
Isnt it the same*
Idk
What about this
thats odd
Make that star a little dimmer and it would be worth my time
We can’t do our worst when the worst has already been sent
It sure has
I think you replied to the wrong image
I figured out a way to make even PLA filament work with a spider so basically you just stack the spider ontop of the stock spider vane you get the strength of the metal spider with the optical quality of the plastic spider
Sounds redundant
Poopiter
never do ap ever again
why aint it round
It’s not perfectly round tbf
Most Jupiter photos are oblong iirc
Go check #1233917530989395968 message we spent a while explaining
Once you click scroll up
come on its not THAT OBLONG
Yup it is
Also atmospheric refraction makes it worse
if i didnt f**k up my calculations rn
which is basically same as jupiters gravity
so that aint no optical effect thats actually its shape?
honestly crazy
Yeah
This is your hint that it's wrong
I think you missed a zero somewhere, should be around 2.26 m s^-2
lolz i hate working with numberssss
wait
lemme check
and redo
yea nvm 2.2 m/s^2
roughly 10% reduced gravity still though
thats a lot
Why do people even post their amazing images here expecting to be roasted
Like what do they think we’re gonna respond with
“uhh… your reds are too… orange”
heres a shit image to roast
have fun!
compression be like
Did you even bothered to focus the telescope?😭
Your stars are a bit out of focus how stupid hahahahha
no theyre focused
they're just blunt
I mean he asked
colimation off and no coma corrector + star trailing + shitty aberation corrector :3333
makes a lovely soup
shot with a planewave
Uhm what happened with the nebula? The background is too dark but the nebula is erm broken
You broke the best nebula
Fr
worst nebula
No
only intresting in ir
And broadband
no
Yes
what gausian blur does to a mf
impossible to roast
Too much purple
grape soda or something idk
Looks like my tarantula Nebula image
I took it earlier so you plagiarized me, js

I wanna say uhh thanos?
I now hate Orion nebula
I now despise Orion nebula
The others are horrible tho
Compared to me rework on it, it is
Wdym
Yk what that's good
This is the reworked one
Not loading 🙁
Makes me hate the original attempt
Ooo
That's tuff
Ngl hate this one too. Needed more int
Nah it just looks flat
Needed more int
Yea tbf, how much was that?
27 minutes
That's not bad for 27, I got this in 30
Im so glad you're tracking now
Same bro
was there even a point of u getting tracking if ur still only getting 30 mins of data
Clouds 🙁 I was planning on more
guiding when?
some point 😭
how i got guiding before u :(
Well idk if I need guiding lowkey
since im on a dslr at 140mm
https://ptb.discord.com/channels/794642864218439681/1458182498084454531 roast the later ones plz (ik the first ones are bad)
do you enjoy walking noise or something
yes
I feel targeted tea
request granted
Why so noisy
Looks like those bench marks for computers that are in the early stages of getting rendered
Single 3-minute subs per SHO channel
Oh
actually this is probably a good candidate image to test L1 impulse noise reduction techniques
no, just no
I think theres some stars in this......whatever this is
Man where do I even start 😭
how did you manage to streak some stars but not others?
DSS
This isnt even a roast but I genuinely thought you sent a stellarium screenshot for a second
It looks very similar
too pretty, get this shit outta here!!!
Aww, you couldn't pull out color with baby's first telescope (which has an OSC sensor btw)
Damn
😂 its so obvious im not even gonna say it
even a beginner could tell whats wrong
the bg is slightly green, pls fix
no its not
just had night mode on
sorgy
Bro is shooting black and white and still getting chromatic noise
That looks sooo gooooood my gawd I can’t roast this
What telescope?
Actually tell me all specs
#1454250299924676638 message
#1460394221180813395 message
Roast my Abell 426
ugly ass ovals
where int time?????
you could hardly get any of the nebula out
I find myself asking this question to the skies
same
atp this channel is 90% projection
Most of the server is refraction.
So little reflection
it so saaaaddddd
also 25% obstructed area on a 6" mirror is not too baaad
i shoud get a 12" class cass for this
With a Newton, yes... you are obstructing the primary mirror. But with RCTs and cassegrain telescopes in general, you don't really cover it.
Think about it. There is no mirror to obstruct.
im planning on modding a class cass into a rasa
also it is still an obstruction
of a hole in the mirror

That would make it a prime focus cassegrain
i didnt know tha actual name
this was meant to go in the rct chat 😭
RASA has the Schmidt plate and afaik it has spherical mirror
it do have a shmid plate and a sphere morror :(
which is why mine will be better
Ok... that's not the actual name. The actual name is just prime focus 😂
bleh
so a pft?
prome formcus tleescoe
Yeah sure it might not reduce your light gathering but it will reduce your diffraction limit
not when the hole is already there
Overall
If you had a perfect aperture without the secondary
You can compensate with a bigger aperture
Yeah but it's heavy and expensive
get 14" class cass and a fork mount
ez fixxx
Compared to a fr*c? It's pretty much free
It because most people want easy results that look decent it takes a lot of skill and luck to get good results from a reflector
reflector take little to no effor
Artifacts that you have to pixel peep to see on refractor become huge pain in a reflector
Well... there's the difference.
Decent vs Good. I'd rather put in some effort and get good images than decent ones😂
Give me an example
Take tracking for example or wind
Most reflectors with small sensors if you breath on them they will have trail fracts not so much
Tracking is user fault. Wind, just get a sturdy mount
That Gets expensive fast
I get details like this, fracs not so much
Ngl they get the same details
Unless thats like way sharper and discord compression kinda fed it up
Well idk they just special then they like fracs what can i say
I was gonna argue for widefield but then i remembered rasa exists
Again. Reflector 😂
Yup ik ig one argument for refractors is no collimation hassle but idk if thats worth it over the down sides of refractors
No colimation... yes. But you can't do anything about the chromatic aberration
reducing ca requires a whole new redesign of every piece of glass in the system
(unless ur shooting 1nm narroeband or something)
Yeah unless you spend 20k on a tak and also wait about 10 years give or take
i would rather spend 8k on a good mount and 12k on a good scope
Oooor. Spend half of that on an overkill mount and a 300P and get stupendesly sharp images
hey, dont stop at 300p
Yeah
can go further
Get a 16 inch and a fork mount on a wedge
no one in their right mind would spend 20k on a small peice of glass
Eh... 300 is a good compromise. Then the focal length becomes unusable
orr go bigger and get an f2 sytem
Every frac glazer on the planet?
😭
I was exaggerating but its like 10k or sum let me check
price to performance is NOT worth it
for any frac ig exept the new svboner ones
those have the price of what you would expect from them
Plus. In this server alone. The sharpest images are from reflectors
look at astrobin
I get eye cancer. Alex scares me
i think thats more user error for the fracs tho
people just dont care about backfocus and stuff apparently
its scary
Damn i was way off its cheaper than i remember them about 3k usd
You know how annoying it is when a retcat or equivalent user says that that he is sharp?
I get eye cancer every time i glance at astrobin i swear nobody can get good images unless they own a planewave or ASA telescope
Oh... don't worry. I've seen some eyesoring PW and ASA images
I once saw a dude with a setup the price of both of my cars with worst images than my 6 inch in b9
Like how do you mess up that badly
lil 51mm of appature is nothing
Same as my CO
What's CO
i think my co is about the same size too
Central obstruction
Oh I'm pretty sure my central obstruction is bigger than 51mm i think mine was 65mm
Let me double check that
Oh... nvm. Mine is 47mm on axis
Yeah 64mm
I like how my secondary is 1/3rd of my total aperture

its still only like idk how much of the area covered tho
prolly like 1/6 or somethint
Yeah its like 20% or sum like that its 18%
my co is like 11-15% the area
Mine is 13%. That explains my luck with this telescope
How come mines the biggest ratio
I guess its because its a small sensor
🤦♂️
I mean telescope lol
Yeah
Now... think about the size of the light cone where it needs to be folded and still have a focal point outside of the tube
i have exploer 150p so smoller obstruction :3
The faster the telescope, the larger is the CO.
Yup but tbh it's kinda overkill for my needs lol
But not bothered to get a smaller ones so 18% it is
Nice tbh i think f5 is better because it coveres the diffraction limit way better
@marble wagon I got cool optical animation for you.
Unfortunately is messed up because I messed up the interferogam
Whats that black dot
The bullseye of the interferogram. It should've been outside of the mirror
Oh
the kapow of the iterevergogram
Your chromatic aberration is somehow worse than mine and that’s impressive
You havent seen bad
Svbony 48p
holy shit
I actually manage on the fma180 really well
that wild
This is my try with the same setup as him and a lot less integration time
damn thats good
how do you make the stars edible
LMAO
i dont know my stars are really good from the go usually
Its mostly just streetching them correctly
i use star removal starnet++ and later put them back in
for this image particularly i sharpened them a tiny bit with cosmic clarity
but i dont have BlurX or anything like that
so its mostly like that from the start
this is still Roast My Image btw

i get that but dude my halos are booty
like generously this is the best i can get them
plus im oversampled which is just glorious
but i heard mono will help me
so i might go there
What is that little star cloud to the upper left of bodes
dwarf galaxy, Holmberg IX
Ist das wirklich ein Begleiter von Bodes?
also sowas wie die magellanschen wolken in der milchstraße
ist die auch auf meinem eigenem Bild von vor einem Jahr zu sehen?
oder halluziniere ich
It's a satellite galaxy
"It is a Magellanic type galaxy, similar to the Small Magellanic Cloud, neighbour galaxy to the Milky Way Galaxy"
Roast my pride and joy
gluten tag, idk what your saying but thats holmberg ix, sattilite of m81
Ah okay danke
If this is you when you're proud im scared to see your images when you aren't proud of them
Ok this is epic
It looks like shreks shit under a fluorescent light
Data pours Captain Scotty some Aldebaran whiskey
(It is green). From the remastered blurays.
From TNG episode 4 of season 6
-# the silence is all I needed to hear
im breathtaken
Narcissist
bacon and butter
This is deconvolved so much that Alex Woronow's images look soft after seeing this.
pot of green
is this gravitational lensing i see?
you know you dont haaaaaave to always cook your images with noisex
this image is trying to be sharp and soft at the same time, lets just say after this im the latter
decent points
another galaxy more likely
not lensed
indeed
Mid image I've seen better ones from the 40s
1840's or 1940's? Need specifics
Usually when they say 40s they are talking about 1940s
Go on, show me then?
Not 1940s but close enough
well thats embarrassing for you
It's a joke chill
same.... im just clapping back lol
its called roast my image and im just defending against the illegitimate roasts
Should've said "yeah yeah wtv"
nahh lol
its only for ashen
lol
It looks very yellow
There could be more contrast
Idk if that’s the final process or just an autostretch tho
It's the final but I have much to learn about editing and as of current kinda suck at it
Oh nice, what did you try doing when processing it? Maybe I can help
I keep it minimal, mainly because I dont yet know how to use siril properly, its a background extract and stretch
I have been experimenting with color correction but I dont think I used much here
ive seen autostretches with better color balances
Somehow you made 90 minutes look worse than most of the single subs I’ve seen of andromeda
Got the Mexico filter on that one
wtf ahahha no it’s not
I’m banning @frank chasm from roast ur image
Part of the lack of data is because I use a dslr amd was shooting at 200 iso, incorrectly assuming that lower iso would mean lower noise
Still much to learn :)
its really good, ur on a great track keep it up
i would denoise and stretch more, also shift the temp colder
NOOOOOO 💔
I’d do a plate solve and spcc before stretching, you can look up tutorials on how to do that
Then you could denoise and stretch etc. Either ghs or the veralux stretch thing
Is that all in siril?
this u? (roasting)
Yeah plate solving is in tools -> astrometry if I remember correctly
Spcc in color calibration
If you can’t get rid of the yellow try rgb equalization when stacking
I stack in dss because I can't figure out how to use siril without bias frames (I think i just gotta start using bias frames)
You can stack without calibration frames using a different script
I mean you could just stack manually in siril, it's better than dss
And take bias frames, they take 10 seconds to do :)
Uhh no you need to use unity ISO
Yes which for my camera, the nikon d5300 is in the 1600 to 6400 range according to this graph if im reading it right
Although people on Cloudy Nights say not to put it above 2-400 iso
Then I've got my dither set to go every frame, is that excessive?
Others on reddit say min 1600 to reduce banding, I just need to test it out myself
Yeah that’s a waste, especially if your sub exposure time is low
Nah I can hit easy 3 to 5 minutes with my mount
Oh nice
Well dithering every frame is still excessive
I splurged on my mount compared to the rest of my system and my ota +gear is well below max weight :)
How much would you recommend?
Not necessarily, if you do 600 or more and you end up with 20 subs in total, dithering every frame is beneficial
Depends on taget ig, dont want to blow out my histo
My settling time post dither is also reasonably long which is probably unnecessary with a strainwave
What sensor do you have?
Idk, imo ½ to minimum of ¼ of the total subs need to be dithered. So if I shoot 60 subs, I dither every 2nd or 4th sub. Depends on how lazy I am
that's a camera
If you have a sony sensor then naturally you wont have to worry to much about banding but if its a nikon sensor then yeah
Yeah should have minimal banding issues but the sensor is pretty old so idk
Sony makes the sensor but its a nikon platform
I get concentric rings on some images but minimal banding
Especially on aggressive stretches
Yeah
There is no roast available at the moment. Please try again with a different image.
Roast this with no mercy (wrong answers only btw no truth)
There's so much walking noise bro
Did you even try to colour balance this
Greener than shreks ass
WHY ARE THERE NO STARSS??
i knew it bro
moon landing was fake
the moon is fake
lowk jst painted on the glass dome
No mineral moon, yet weird colors, looks like it was taken through a window.
Flat moon theory confirmed
We can’t even see the apollo landing site in his picture, it has to be faked
ikrr
Bro thought he could shoot a mineral moon by passing off chromatic aberration
Pictures of the moon were better in 1900 bro
You got 3 degrees per pixel resolution
I’ve never seen cheddar lakes on the moon before
this feels like a fever dream id have after too many oreos and passing out on my floor while thinking about space remotely
Dude what 😭✌️
You're not roasting you're just throwing gasoline and hoping some dumahh dropped a cigarrete on it
thats life lowk
idk how to spell cigarrette or cigarrete or cigarette
i just know the 2nd one is wrong
roast me bacj
it was a very heavy crop
lots of deconvolution
taken with a refractor too
somehwo
Honestly newton/dobson telescopes are the all in one
and i love the cross that they leave on stars that again i forgot how it's called
diffraction spikes
that
Cassegrain or refractor telescopes aren't that good for deep sky
especially cassegrain telescopes
it's just my opinion
a very bad take
whatever
My RC begs to differ
(this is an invitation to roast btw)
Greener than shrek's ahh
(credits to idk some guy earlier for making the phrase)
yeah credits to @zenith fossil
whyd you throw up on your telescope
I got nothing. must be christmas time in M42, with all that green and red
I had my glasses off when I first saw this and putting them back on did not help
cmon bruh
hubble is literally a cassegrain
lmao
same with JWST
basically even tho hubble is like f/24
its still has a 2.4m mirror which absolutely matters
RCs are aplanatic Cassegrains
yep
no correctors needed tbh but expensive tho
good for galaxies if you ask me (now roast)
Honestly not too different from an SCT, which absolutely needs a good reducer/corrector to be usable for astrophotography on top of the sticker price\
(If you're buying new though, used SCTs are way easier to come by)
even after all of that?
what are those green things?
strangelets?
Most SCTs suffer from coma (the only exceptions being Meade's ACF, which arguably isn't a usual SCT, and some specialized designs in observatories) so a corrector is very useful, and reducer/corrector combos usually bring you down to f/7 and below
H-II regions in NGC 2403 (HaIRG palette)
ohh
what is that corrector plate in front for then?
Correcting spherical aberration (since all mirrors in the design are spheres)
i lowk thought they correct coma too 💔
but like cassegrains are made slow tho so coma shouldnt be a problem
like f/10 or some
It's possible, but you need a specific separation between the corrector and primary/secondary to eliminate coma
The downside being that the tube has to be very long, like a Schmidt camera
In my experience it's still visible (coming at this from a visual observer's perspective)
In an SCT I can see coma at the edges, in an RC there's essentially none
welp
RC>>
there are of course the EdgeHD SCTs which don't have coma
I'm an RC glazer though so I'm biased
Meade ACFs also have no coma, they're more similar to an RC in some ways
lol
i am a telescope glazer
telescopes are lowk good
ngl
i hate refractors tho
With an RC you get
- no chromatic aberration
- easy access to infrared imaging
- negligible coma
- negligible distortion
- easy mosaic stitching
- a surprisingly fast Cassegrain
- better visual performance than you might expect (especially at low power)
- no vignetting with 2" eyepieces
- an infallible aura

is it for AO?
It's for aura farming
lmaooo
i see the fit
use a 589nm laser tbh
looks drippier
I use a 520 nm laser so I don't have to deal with unfiltered IR
I should try to find a 589 nm laser though
ikr
on top of that, I use the laser holder for cable management, so it's always attached to my scope
if its powerful enought u can create an artificial star for AO
ohhh
thats clean
lol
W pic
what bortle class is this?
in that area
the number of stars are acc good
never seen so many in my life lmao
Bro what
Im just curious why
Ahhh
💔
the images lowk crisp tho
and its easy to setup too
no collimation pain
but the aperture per $ goes insane lol
Low B5/high B4
Not particularly good dark skies, just a 30 minute drive from where I live (B6/7)
They are good for nebulas and very close galaxies but thats about it
Nuh uh SCT's deserves that title because it's at native f10 which is great for planets add a reducer and now it's f6 which is great for galaxies and then add a hyperstar and now it's at f2 great for nebulas
Man I've got an 8 inch sct that id love to throw a OAG on but I was advised not to because I shoot withba dslr and back focus would be an issue
There's no other good guiding solution. You can't use a guide scope with one
OAG or bust
(and pretty much every SCT user has one)
you should have plenty of backfocus
Fair point
Did you mean good for noise
Also the stars look ugly
The dew on my secondary is more resolved than ts
arse
That’s crazy
come outside
Goddamn
that one's technically a newton actually
although it does have a 3rd mirror that its only job is to do some corrections
ur right about hubble tho
well not a standard cassegrain
its not a newt tho
Thoughts on RCs?
peak
They seem pretty popular for deep sky
cuz they need no correctors
All my homies love RCs
Though I gotta say my first scope was an SCT so im a little biased towards them
ikr
Though oddly enough it did need a corrector plate when it first launched lol
yea that was cuz someone decided to launch it after only one test and didnt do other tests to make sure the mirror was correctly figured
yeaaa lmaooo
Yus
Based on some light googling it used 2 corrector mirrors
DID SOMEONE JUST MENTION THE GLORIOUS RITCHEY–CHRÉTIEN
Yeees
I had an SCT back in the day and it was good but tbh I think my RC's a better all-rounder
Makes sense, its hard to make like a good good sct, but if you get one they are so cool
2 hyperbolic mirrors
they are kinda self correcting
no coma
no optical abbreations
Yes. A flat one and one with the inverse error of the primary mirror
