As far as the humor goes: The sci fi setting allows for a better ease of modern pop culture references to be slapped on too (there’s even a Rick Astley joke somewhere). Plenty of the texting skits I’ve seen are quite solid too cuz of how well they reflect actual interactions you may have already seen/experienced yourself. The Trailblazer is also overall snappier and quirkier for those who are into their schticks.
But personally I don’t always find the humor as great as it’s praised on social media circles atm. A few jokes, especially the stretched inner monologue ones, come off as way too try-hard/artificial to me (don’t get me started on the closet skit…).
as for the plot it’s at least gotten more interesting to me once I got out of Herta’s space station. But I’m not exactly ‘hooked’ to anyone in particular besides maybe the piece of dork trash that is Sampo.

all the ones that I do like do a good mix between exposition and actual gameplay
star rail kinda gets worse in this aspect for me due to how it is paced too
you have long stretched where it's just main story gameplay ,so it's all dungeon and exploration and combat
then after a milestone you unlock a million bajilion sidequests all at once which are all mainly focused on dialogue
so if you go to do them right after unlocking them there's this very drastic shift in gameplay style everytime you reach one of those milestones
