#Modpack: Steampunk Suggestion: Nerf the tempad ...

Tagging @hoary zealot as you inspired me to write this; I'm curious if you have thoughts. Also @urban sapphire as you have pretty thorough steampunk pack knowledge.
I haven't touched the update that had changed tempad crafting recipe, can you tell me what the new recipe is?
But I love the idea of having to use other dimensions stuff to make a interdimensional traveling device
The new recipe is brass sheets, a display board, a redstone link, and an electron tube iirc. So in terms of raw materials, you need some rose quartz, iron, brass, and redstone (and only 7 brass, only 2 rose quartz)
you can get 99% of this from the train ruin
and a display board is cheap and easy to find
you see i also thought that the tempad should have been end game loot
as it stands rn imo the best thing to do is either replace it with my idea with the waystones or follow your idea and make it so you have to get end game items from all dimension
have it be like the all the mobs star
a reward for fully exploring
in this case
Imo could do both. Have waystones for midgame, than lategame the tempad is an option
agreed
i would also like to note
by design or not, you can open a portal infront of any mob and push them in. that teleports them to the location
it makes this useless to make
cuz you can teleport shit across dimensions with tempad im 95% sure
i learnt this when i accidentally teleported a villager with me
Yep it's pretty reliable too. The portal opens 3 blocks ahead of you, so I've transported many villagers this way
you can get a bunch when their in large group gossiping
Ooo true
before youd have to lure them all with an emerald block. or take the children via carry and fly away on a plane
ye that's pretty cheap
if you have a specific recipe in mind ill be happy to implement it
I guess the questions would be: what dimensions to get stuff from, and what stuff? For blue skies I suggested the alchemy table & summoner's table (I think that's what they're called). I'm not familiar with Twilight Forest or Aether, so I'm not sure what to get from there. Maybe also have something from like Mars? From the nether could be ancient debris?
If we want it to be post end dimension maybe add chorus fruit or something from eldritch end?
if you just want "endgame" stuff of blue skies then I'd suggest the rare arc instead as they're a little bit harder to get
never touched ad astra so I don't know abt that part
empty / Seg Display / Segmented Display / Seg Display / empty
Treated Brass Ingot / Volt Meter / Advanced Computer / Energy Meter / Treated Brass Ingot
Treated Brass Ingot / Accumulator / Non-Euclidian Cube / Fuse Block / Treated Brass Ingot
Treated Brass Ingot / Copper Circuit / Thermal Cell / Copper Circuit / Treated Brass Ingot
Treated Brass Ingot / Fissle Core / Charged Ender Pearl / Telecore / Treated Brass Ingot
empty / T Brass Ingot / T Brass Ingot / T Brass Ingot / empty
NEC might be too rare idk, i put it there since you have to expore quite a bit to get the spell stones but you can just replace it with heart of the cosmos if you think its 2 much. imo instant tele whenever, wherever, forever should cost you a great sacrifice
i put these materials since you have to mess around with alot of the create techs to get them aswell as do some alex cave spelunking( this makes people acctually have to play and expore the modpack)
i was thinking of having seven curses ring items as apart of the recipe but i dont think everyone can play like that so i canned that idea. i also thought to have all the rare items from different alex caves and other dimensions but i realized that youd have to basically 100% the modpack leaving nothing left to do. So all in all i think that this is a very fair but hard recipe for the tempad in this modpack as it requires you to greatly explore the overworld, nether and end, fight bosses and advance with create while still leaving you with content to explore.
Nec for just that is too much
And you're forgetting abt the fact that infinite tempad can still be found in end cities
it can be found in end cities?
what the name?
Uhhh
Idr
It's circular
Just do slot: tempad (whatever the slot is named)
And it should also show
Old image but
That item
It have a new sprite/icon pretty sure
man thats so busted lmao
It's really rare
imo that should be disabled regardless
I think i looted like 100 end cities all in all and haven't found one
Over 3 playthrough
Well 3.5, one I barely loot anything
But I did go into some end cities
ehh then it shouldnt matter no?
Idk, I don't have an opinion on the creative tempad
for the normal tempad recipe nec could just be replaced with heart of the cosmos
I'm just stating what I know
why isn't the middle a extradimensional eye?
thats easy to make
i was thinking of it
as ive said, these materials match the mechanical/ magical mix feel of the modpack and require you to explore and create alot aswell as fight certain bosses
(forces you to play the modpack)
the eye is very easy to make compared to the others
eye of ender, blaze powder, gold nugget and phantom membrane
anyways the eye teleports anything but yourself
unlike the charged ender pearl
i went tru almost all the modpack items to find suitable material, not just by rarity but also by the processes you have to go tru to accuire them. like create new age and factories must grow
normal create aswell. you need a supercharge blaze burner for some components
assembly lines
spouts, etc
basically everything
should've add a bottle or 3 of hyper exp
maybe but i feel like alot of people would branch into that anyway. its at the start of the questbook
really?
its one of the first branches in the create section
none of my teammates on multiple of my playthrough even use cei
it's mostly me setting all of that up
cuz its copper based
oh updated quest I'm guessing?
i guess. im on v17. thats how it is for me.
in the questbook
ye I don't think there was that for me
wellll
I don't think I check the questbook on create much actually
so I can't really remember lol
yeah, enchanting is at the beginning and new age /fmg are at the end
cuz when you get to fmg you have to start melting down metal and shit
this would be a mechanical crafter recipe correct?
correct
prob could replace nec with heart of the cosmos as discussed before
okay im looking over your recipe now and i have a couple thoughts:
- I'd add more items to get more mod breadth. I like the inclusions so far, but I'll draft up something that includes more other stuff (and less C:TFMG stuff, don't need so many items from that mod imo)
yeah i guess, they are there for the processes you have to do to make them. like energizing, metal melting etc
Alex caves:
Heart of Iron
Tectonic Shard
Fissle Core
Immortal Embryo
Pure Darkness
Radiant Essence
Nether:
Lava Power Cell
Burning ash
Blue Sky:
Summoning Table
Alchemy Table
Twilight:
Fiery Tears
Aether:
Life Shard
Ad Astra:
solar Panel
this is some of the items i thought to use for it originally
Blue skies should be rare lootbag from the nature and poison boss
The 2 table is only loot from the first 2 bosses, not even close to endgame of that mod
And instead of burning ash it should be ignitium or something
But honestly recipe should try to find a theme instead of just putting everything that’s endgame of dimensions
.
yeah thats what i was kinda talking about prior
cuz while i want it to require rare things i also want the recipe to make sense while still leaving you with stuff to do
the tempad is a tech steampunk design so i had thought to include tech stuff with some magic items
that make sense
the idea i was going for was tech meshing with magic
which is apart of the theme of steampunk(modpack)
and the reason as ive said above was to force the player to interact with different aspects of the mod (bosses of mass destruction, different branches of create, enimatic legacy, etc)
maybe some of the other treated brass ingots can be replaced with other ingots idk. tb ingots made sense to me since you have to do more scorched guns stuff
now im not saying players wont do all these things but it will give them a push to do it more
in that case how do you feel about that previous recipe with mostly C:TFMG stuff and only a little other stuff? That kinda aligns with that idea
Tho I'd say if you are doing that there should be a forge:light_bulbs component in the recipe so it requires tungsten
slap 2 light bulbs in the 2 "empty" slots on the top of the recipe
lore: the light bulbs project the portal
what you think?
light bulb / Seg Display / Segmented Display / Seg Display / light bulb
Treated Brass Ingot / Volt Meter / Advanced Computer / Energy Meter / Treated Brass Ingot
Treated Brass Ingot / Accumulator / NEC or just heart of the cosmos / Fuse Block / Treated Brass Ingot
Treated Brass Ingot / Copper Circuit / Thermal Cell / Copper Circuit / Treated Brass Ingot
Treated Brass Ingot / Fissle Core / Charged Ender Pearl / Telecore / Treated Brass Ingot
empty / T Brass Ingot / T Brass Ingot / T Brass Ingot / empty
ehehehe sure why not
too much replication
not enough diversity
I was thinking of having even more magic stuff as well
there's a few that'd fit into the spatial manipulation that I can't remember off the top of my head
@hoary zealot I think due to the existence of the He Who Remains' tempad available in end city loot, it shouldn't require going to the end to make the tempad
could replace some tbrass with insidium or however you spelt it
for this
the end city tempad is like uber uber rare no?
why not just take it out of the loot tables?
What's that?
the thing you get from fighting that fire boss
Ohhh ignitium
you know theres alot of treated brass in my recipe, if we cound find other rare ingots in the otther dimension we can have those too, like whats the rare material in blueskies?
ok so i'm realizing there's kinda two ideas at play here. One is the idea of having the tempad be "lategame;" i.e., you have to do progression through stuff to get it (post-dragon, post-wither, etc). The second idea is about having the tempad draw from many different mods, like having tungsten and also energized diamond and also something from Toxic Caves and also some item from the Aether.
And the tempad recipe could just be one of those, or it could be both
Personally, I think I prefer the idea where it just draws from many mods, and isn't necessarily "lategame."
yeah both are what im going for
Because I think that scavenger-hunt approach is sufficient for the abilities it gives
so you get time to use the other shit the modpack givess you
it requires you to do a bunch of exploring the old fashioned way, before you get teleportation
yeah
vehicals, train, transort systems/lines
but I think having it be lategame is kinda unnecessary at that point
if it already requires a set of items from diverse locations, why have it be post-dragon and/or post-wither as well?
its like how in dark souls you get the lord vessel to fast travel far into the game
well but my point is kinda that the diverse set of items requires you to do the exploration anyway
time, it leaves time to expore and set up other stuff
but yeah ultimately i think the reason we didn't get a reworked recipe is that there isn't consensus
Awq was mostly seeming to align with what I had said
Idk I had also wanted to put more time and thought into it but got sidetracked and forgot
lets say you reach the end right, id say some of the other bosses are ment for post dragon
so when ou get to the end you gain the "fast travel" to help you fully explore the rest of the mods
hmmmm
you have to expore but you dont have to expore mods fully. i had the telecore and fission core, that only 2 caves out of 5
and it doesnt require you to even finish the cave, you just have to go tru the process of finding it and half exploring
this leaves you with stuff to still do and gives you a reason to revisit these areas to use the tempad function
create tfmg stuff just makes you basicully fully explore the create aspect(main aspect ) of the modpack
id assume by the time youve made all the machines, youd have built factories for them aswell
That thing is insanely rare
I don’t think it’s worth even considering that in here
I played 4 playthrough of the pack, 3 of which I got to the end and looted end cities
I looted so much of the end cities and yet never found a single one
Only reason I even know about it is because someone mentioning that
