Hello, hoping I can find some info here to help reduce or clear up lag I'm having with the Steampunk mod pack.

My first ~6 hours of recording was pretty smooth but now I've got nothing but lag. Mined blocks reappearing, item pickups lagging, and mobs are basically warping a few meters at a time.

Playing Single Player, non server and no one else in the world
My performance readouts from windows that I had open while testing showed my CPU getting up to 30-35% max and my GPU at around 40% max while tabbed into the game (And with OBS recording at the same time)
Using a 3070 TI and have 32 gigs of ram installed on this machine

Modpack has not been modified.
Originally I used the CurseForge Launcher but swapped to ATLauncher due to trying to follow the pinned assistance. Issue persists even with the launcher change.

Pulling up F3 showed my GPU maxing out at 100% even after I reduced my render and sim distance down to 8. My FPS was typically over 200 but I tried limiting it to down to 60 just to see. Doing so made the GPU readout in F3 shows ~50-60% with the odd 100% but the lag was exactly the same as before.
RAM wise I originally had 12 gigs allocated for the modpack to use. I tried reducing this down to both 10g and 8g just to make sure it wasn't an issue of allocating too much. Typically my F3 readout shows me only using between 6-9 gigs while doing this testing.

(I have a small vid that I uploaded to streamable showing my F3 info while mining and having the block lag if that would be helpful)

• Consider installing the JRE instead of the JDK for a smaller file size

2. When installing through adoptium, make sure that Add to PATH and Set JAVA_HOME variable are both set to be installed (please see https://imgur.com/a/jPu1h7h for how that would look)

3. Check if java has been correctly installed by running java --version (or java -version on older versions), and seeing if the output is correct (see https://imgur.com/a/OWcoq4p for an example of the output)

• NOTE: 64 bit versions of java ALWAYS have '64-bit Server VM' in the version output. If that is not there, you have installed a 32-BIT version!! If you're getting Out of Memory errors or any other errors, PLEASE install 64-bit

4. If the output isn't as intended, you have 2 options.
   i) Delete ALL other java versions from your PC (ONLY recommended if you don't need them)
   ii) Redirect your launcher/server to use your new installation of Java

Method i

1. Uninstall any other java program listed in your programs list (differs by OS, please find a guide for your own OS if you don't know)
2. Attempt to re-use the command mentioned above (if the output is now correct, which it should be, you are ready to go)

Method ii

1. For a server, please modify the $Java/JAVA variable (found in your startup script depending on ps1/sh) to the path of your java installation. For windows, this path is usually found in "Program Files/Eclipse Adoptium/version_of_java/bin"
2. For a client, depending on whether you use CurseForge, GD, or AT, the process is slightly different. Please see a guide for each respective launcher on how to change the java version.

How on earth are you supposed to get enough blank runes from Iron’s Spells and Spellbooks to complete all of the quests aha, I would’ve used spirit spawners with the dead king but even with the enchant you get 4 souls per kill so it would take 16 kills to get a T1 soul crystal that seems crazy so am I missing something?

hey i just found that today as well, im having a lot of trouble with all of the lava making the room over 200 degrees hot, also for the portals theres a few of them that works once you repair them

i recognise the desert world portal and Twilight forest but neither are in the modpack

and theres a few others i dont recognise

Oh you can use create

Cobblestone into a crushing wheel, then the gravel that comes out goes into a second one. Then wash the sand and it makes gold

mostly for steel. if you get deep into immersive enginnering which you will need if you want lots of netherite. a lot of the machines will require blocks of steel. which can be made cheaper and faster with other mods but at the center of the 3x3 recepie it requires a single steel ingot directly from immersive enginnering

I found VERY little netherite scraps using a create mining contraption

enough to maybe make an armor set, a few tools and a backpack

but is painfully slow

the immersive engineering way will have you make a ton of multi block machines to make an excavator

and eventually maybe even build a create train to transfer dissel fuel to the nether to power all your machinery

hi team.. looking for help regarding chunk loading / generating.. I did follow the guidline to delete the 3 mods as listed in the thread above, however it is still barely playable if I want to explore.. it does not load sufficently fast for even walking, not to mention if i want to explore on the gyrocopter etc..

I did assign it 20gb ram, and it uses 9 per task manager..
tried to tweak the settings etc, shaders non shaders, render distance 10 and 30, no change..

I recommend you read over it, what worked from it for me personally was:

1. Installing AT Launcher instead of Curseforge, and downloading the pack there

2. Installing the custom Java version, and selecting that java folder in AT Launcher (and disabling "user default minecraft java version)

3. Changing ATLauncher to use 8GB memory

4. Adding the base java arguments + the G1C1 garbage collector arguments to AT Launcher (link in the performance guide in the faq)

5. Uninstalling "Connectedness" mod (needed to use modernFix changes)

6. Adding these to the bottom of the:"modernfix-mixins.properties" file:
   mixin.perf.deduplicate_location=true
   mixin.perf.dynamic_resources=true

7. Changing Mipmap levels in Minecraft to 0

8. Changing simulation distance in Minecraft to 8-10, while keeping render distance decently high.

I currently consistently get over 100FPS with shaders enabled, and can set my render distance as high as 30 without much issue (I keep it at 24). On the Curseforge pack I was struggling to stay consistently over 30fps with significantly lower render distances (eg: 8-10)

There is essentially a list of blacklisted entities in the Carry On config file you could change.

Otherwise you can mine up some Arcane Crystal, and break a random wild spawner to craft a Quantum Catcher - it can capture any mob.
