4GB is probably not enough. The pack runs well for me with 7GB allocated, but you probably don't have 7GB free if you have 8GB total. Also, terrain generation is CPU intensive, so you can expect to get lag when exploring unless you pregenerate.

Hey there, I know its been awhile since your post. I found it when i was trying to find the same answer and then went diggin myself. I figured if you hadnt figured it out yet, then maybe i can post this so someone else might find it. It turns out the cold damage happens when you step on the "permafrost" blocks from the Immersive Weathering mod. You cant see the blocks because theyre hiddin under snow. That's all I found out so far. I'm gonna go diggin in the mods settings to see if theres a way to 'turn it off'.

If you want to turn off freeze damage from Minecraft itself (due to sinking in snow) you need to enable cheats and then type '/gamerule freezedamage false' and that should fix the problem from there.

I went to the Iris Shaders page on the curseforge website > Files tab and downloaded the latest version for minecraft 1.18.2. It gives an option to download it through curseforge and add it directly to the modpack (it'll replace the current version) or you can download the jar file and insert it into the modpack mods folder yourself

Hi, Im in a server running the fabric version of better minecraft with friends, unfortunately it keeps crashing for some reason, we paid more to upgrade the server, it now has 16gb memory and we asked them to move our server because it was lagging where-ever it was, so from a steady 8-12 tps, it's a nice 20 usually, but the server still randomly crashes from time to time, the first ever crash was from a smithing table and all the others just say server shutting down, it now frequently crashes when players aren't even on :(

Just interesting to know about this:

It's used to make a soul cage, which lets you make a spawner for just about any mob.

Unfortunately there used to be info on how to use the mod on its Curse page, but it's not there anymore. It's pretty simple though. To craft the Soul Cage, you put down a block of Soul Sand and surround it with four Obsidian blocks horizontally, then you light the Soul Sand with a Flint and Steel and throw in the Broken Spawner. Then you'll need to craft a Soul Crystal which is made in a similar manner, but instead of Obsidian blocks it's Lapis blocks, and you throw in an Amethyst Shard. Then while having the Soul Crystal in your inventory you need to kill a mob of your choice 64 times to level up the crystal to it's 1st tier. Then you just place down the Soul Cage and right click the Soul Crystal to put it inside it, and then mobs can spawn from it.

well to translate to a layman and saying the few things I am aware of..forge has more mods but is a more rigid mod runner compared to fabric so even tho fabric has lesser mods compared to forged there are few unique mods (good ones too) that has releases on fabric only.

They're both good in their own way. If you're concerned about performance, fabric is the way to go. If you want more weapons / bosses / random other additions, forge is th way to go

Those are the necklace and glove slots. There are no items that go in those slots or the ring slot currently. The reason the slots even show up is due to the Paradise Lost mod registering those slots, but the mod hasn't actually added any items that go in those slots yet.

The correct package should be java-17-openjdk.

I just spun up a Fedora container and installed Java using dnf install java-17-openjdk, and I can confirm I have that libawt_xawt.so file that your crash log says you're missing.

Haha, far from. Aether portal is the same configuration as a Nether Portal but made from Glowstone and "lit" with a bucket of water. To get into the bumblezone throw an ender pearl at a beehive. To get out mine down to y = 0 or up to build height.

Yeah, Dragon is better with a digging speed of 12 vs 10 for Pendorite, with about the same durability. But the fastest tools are Chitin, with a speed of 18, though less durability. Though once you enchant with high Efficiency there's not much difference.

Charmonium used to be in the pack (https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/charmonium), but it was removed in v10.5. That update also removed the Charm mod from the same developer, as it had a bug that made advancements not work. But Charmonium works without Charm, so there wasn't any reason to remove it. And the Charm bug was fixed long ago, so there's no reason it couldn't be added back too. I added both mods back into my modpack.

You can manually add terralith to the mod pack, world generation works just fine. The surface rules of terralith overwrite BYG so you'll get some weird biomes (rainbow beach specifically) but overall I think it's worth the add. It makes everything so epic

Likely MultiMC. There’s an direct open source version of MultiMC called PolyMC on github. Works flawlessly over there. Although you have to add a few mods that it displays manually but it’s easy as pie

Out of curiosity, I suspect most of you prefer Fabric, but is there a reason I should pick Fabric over Forge and are there any underlying differences or reasons I should go for either one?

I notice it has the most downloads so I'm considering it but saw that there were differences. I've only ever used Forge so I'm really not sure which is more optimal for someone like me, who doesn't mod much.

Fabric will perform better overall. You will find that some mods aren't available in the other framework (forge/fabric) so that might impact your choice as well.

Yeah it's almost the same overall.

The way I look at it, Forge is the older mod pack that has most of the mods it's going to have added to it. Fabric is in the process of getting to that point and isn't quite there as mods continue to get added. So you will miss out on some mods with Fabric that you would get in Forge.

But new mods get added on a regular schedule as they were getting updated for Fabric 1.18

Others might have a better understanding but that's how I've been looking at the two. I've chosen Fabric for our server.

It's not too difficult with it only being the two of us on the server but if we had a bunch of players I'd have to stick closer to the default package. Otherwise I'd have to have everyone downloading the extra mods to their local clients. Currently I just run over to her machine and install it for her after adding it to the server.

Vastly different. Fabric has its own mods, forge has its own mods. Of course some mods have ports for both fabric and forge, but they’re fundamentally different at core apart from few dual ported mods. See it like this, one is Java and the other is Bedrock. They seem similar but they really aren’t at all. They’re made differently for the same-ish feel

Yeah when the modpack is updated on aternos it automatically updates your server. Unfortunately there doesnt seem to be a way to revert this. I think you could probably take your world backup to a different provider and upload it there but otherwise you're kinda forced to deal with the update
