Okay dodge it is then. I still don't get hit fairly often, probably because of my dodge chance.
Tbh the biggest issue is how do you make them stand a chance
How do you make it so it's balanced without being way too punishing or just one tap and you're done

The main items that the bosses will have equipped

• Dragonsteel

• Forlorn Harbinger

• Abyssal Hide
• Cursed Wraithguard
• Mechanized Exoskeleton
• Crimson Wizard
• Ghost Warrior
• Crimson (dungeons and combat)
That seems good, pulled from the best of armor sets
I would say there are a few things that make fights too easy and maybe we can mitigate those:
a) killing from such a distance that the boss has no chance to even hit you
b) tanking everything away so that the boss can't hurt you
c) 1-tapping the boss
So for a) I'd say we need to somehow reduce projectile effectiveness (since the Shield doesn't work, and dodge also affects melee, how about Projectile Prot 255 or smth?
For b), make the boss do so much damage that even my 680 armor can't handle it. If it 1-hits or 2-hits me, I actually need to dodge or run circles around it, which is good.
And for c) maybe there is a way to limit max damage dealt per attack to the boss (like "won't take more than 5k per hit), or alternatively so many defences that you need a weapon with at least X amount of damage to get through.
Well there is Puffish Attributes mod
I may seriously see if we can't add it just so that I can use some of its attributes for the bosses
that would cover a
b is easy enough, just add extra current hp damage, and/or crit chance and crit danage
c is hard
b could also be armor shred
that and protection shred/pierce too
Yeah, then it's just a question of how much HP does the player have, and the amount of armor is less relevant.
And Puffish Attributes has toughness shred too so we can enforce an armor toughness of higher than 30
Cause in Apotheosis, anything over 30 toughness is pointless

Make Blazing Brand something the player wants
I was about to suggest the Blessed Amulet for the bosses, which prevents all negative effects. But that would not make players want to get Blazing Brand.
We want the bosses to be tough, but we want to reward preparation and clever, strategic planning

Truth is that in terms of damage, it's really two sided: pre-Celestisynth and post Celestisynth

There does seem to be an attribute just for these weapons that can provide resistance to them
So we can control these weapons of decimation

The one other thing is
There is a resistance attribute by Puffish Attributes that can reduce attack damage not just by a multiplier, but also by a flat amount
Dynamic attributes are wonderful
So we can just add an amount like 5000 or something and that's -5000 to any damage
Not as good as a damage cap per attack but that's something
Plus most all the Cataclysm bosses already come with a built in damage cap
That's still good, yes. It means any attack with less than that won't do anything.
Well, we're currently 1-hitting them, so something about that built-in damage cap is not sufficient XD

Further testing seems to reveal that they do have a damage cap, but Crit Chance and Crit Damage seem to be able to bypass it
I have these two weapons right here
You would think that the dragonsteel sword would beat them quicker, but actually the axe chops away at them faster
And I'm on a seperate instance so they have way less health and armor than they do on MMC4
So again, a good idea may be to just unify affixes for the higher tiers
Give Esoteric gear Crit Chance and Crit Damage, armor Healing Received, etc.
That would make sense, since my sword does indeed rely on crits.
I mean it just got nerfed for MMC5, wouldn't be suprised if it comes around to MMC4

I know but you have 2 crit chances and 2 crit damages
45% crit chance and 40% crit damage are affixes, the 400% crit damge and 50% crit hit are built into the sword by default. It's a terrible sword from Aquamirae.

What is the prerequisite to unlock the forge boss?
I got 100% crit chance due to gems and stuff, but the damage is rather unreliable nevertheless.

If you have over 100% Crit Chance, you can keep doing critical hits until you do run out of chance
So 200% would be 2 crits, 250% would be 2 guareented crits with a 50% chance of a third one
For each extra crit you'll multiply damage again, but every crit after the third one will reduce your Crit Damage multiplier by 15% every time
SO if you had the default 150%, the first crit would be 150%, the second would be 127.5%, the third would be 108.375%
And if it goes below 100% it will stop critting regardless of how many crits you have
That's such a weird way to calculate crits though, lol. So a 100% crit chance is 1 guaranteed crit and then no more? How long until it "recharges" to 1 guaranteed crit?
100% would be guaranteed 1 crit, 200% would be guaranteed 2 crits, 300% 3, and so on
And it applies for every single attack you do
Crit Chance and Crit Damage are the most important affixes, even after Current HP damage to an extent (depends on how much of it you have and how much health the boss has)
You almost always want a heavy weapon when playing apotheosis
Cause the attributes for heavy weapons are higher than for light weapons, likely to counteract the slow (but not really that slow) attack speed

cHin, I may be slow on the uptake here. If 100% guarantees a crit on every single attack, wouldn't that in itself make every hit be a crit? I might not understand the difference between "hit" and "attack" here.
hit and attack is the same thing
If you have 100% crit chance, every single hit on a mob you make, regardless of the damage source (as long as its tied to you) will cause a critical hit and deal extra damage based on your critical damage

More Crit Chance means more damage, as long as you also make sure to increase Crit Damage after a point
Because of the 15% reduction per hit, alright.
So with my current setup it would probably be more useful to increase crit chance, since 250% crit damage can buffer a couple of 15% reductions.

You can get percentage increases by changing the operation of the attributes

Required:
Open the game directory (right click pack -> open folder), navigate to the "crash-reports" folder and upload the latest available crash report.
If there is no crash report, navigate to the logs folder and upload "latest.log."
If there is no log, navigate to the base pack directory and upload the hs_err_pid file, if there is one.

the mini dragons level up or grow larger at all?
Is there something that causes Monster Spawners to have a lower item tier drop than the mobs/area they come from? Friends and I have a spawner grinder set up but can't get anything ancient+ despite the mobs, same level and area, dropping ancient+

Okay, except I haven't been. The highest tier I've been getting is godforged despite high 80s endermen, in the end dimension

Yeah you'll need to kill higher level mobs to get artifact and heirloom
Which can easily be done by getting as many skill points as possible and moving your spawner further out in the End

I would try to test this more but I'm dealing with another bug with endermen teleporting me around despite being anchored
Because natural mob spawns can drop other affix items, and those items can include Ancient, Artifact and Heirloom
So a vanilla enderman farm can get these items, but it's specifically disabled for spawner mobs

My two guesses are that either it's your origin or a mob effect on your gear is causing you to teleport

And I believe those teleport you on default
Overworld endermen teleported me as well, however something else I just discovered: I did not attack it yet. I was close to it when it teleported

Do you think it's possible to prevent that? There are a number of ways to keep them at distance.
The solution isn't just making sure that the mob is at a close distance; it's making sure that they have ranged attacks that are a threat even at a far distance
This is why mobs such as the Warden are a great candidate; its sonic boom attack is long, targeting AND piercing
And I can also give them both follow range, which will make them chase the player from a longer distance, and step height for those that need it, so that its harder to trap them
Distance is fine. We just need to make sure that the player still has to be skillful and dodging, instead of just hovering over one place and hacking away at the mobs

Please follow the guide here for changing the Java version your server uses. This will improve performance dramatically. If you are on a third party server host, you likely can not change the Java version your server uses. Bisect Hosting and a few VPS providers do allow changing Java version, though, which can usually be done through your server dashboard.
The method on Bisect is to simply go to the main dashboard page, and select "GraalVM 22" as the Java distribution. If it crashes, use 21 instead.
For further performance improvements, you can also follow this guide.
Reducing server render distance in the server.properties file is also a very good way of reducing lag. Most of our modpacks include mods like Bobby and Farsight, which make it so reducing server render distance will not affect players.
If lag persists, run the following command ingame:
/spark profiler start --only-ticks-over 50

They can't spawn from a spawner, and the rules for spawning vary by dimension
iirc the overworld bosses require skylight, so that setup won't work

And I made the boss gear unbreakable too so it wouldn't get shredded by players too
Surprisingly that did carry over to the dropped item, but multiple of the armor sets I'm using already are unbreakable, and for Esoteric items I don't think this harms it, especially since players could and probably would just use Eternal Stellas right after getting it
And I don't have Glass Sword in the list of weapons so don't worry about that
(even though Esoteric's durability affix can go over 100% and just make it unbreakable anyways)
Will look into Scylla and Nightwarden too
May check Obsidilith too since I forgot that he does go through invulnerability phrases where he could potentially be dangerous (and ofc I could always just make him immune to arrows too if he isn't already)

The distance from spawn should not matter for performance, as most of the chunks are in an unloaded state (so the only possible issue is that you run out of disk space)
