I need to update my server files to the latest Forge, but my host is still stuck on 39.0.17, and requires a "custom.jar" in the directory to launch custom versions. Does anybody know a way I can still play on my server and update my server to run on the latest Forge?

I was somehow playing flawlessly without a .jar (which they say is required), on 39.0.17, but it suddenly stopped working and launching my server after updating to v11.5 earlier tonight

Actually atm 39.0.17 is the latest forge version you should move to, unless you manually update Alex's mobs

Oh, v12 is out then, yeah, that works then as that includes the updated Alex's mobs which fixes the incompatibility with the latest forge versions

I just wanted to make sure you knew of the incompatibility and what not, but that's not an issue anymore on v12

Then that is where my issue comes in. On my server host, the latest Forge they have available is 39.0.17, and allow only custom .jar files to be added under the name "custom.jar", and no way to run the server through a .bat like modern forge requires, so I cannot update it to 39.0.19. But the weird part is, it was running 39.0.17 just fine for months, without a .bat file like required. This is probably confusing and i'm not making sense, sorry. It's 2 AM.

I just can't get it to run anymore, even after reverting back to v11. I didn't change any server files at all :P

I dont know why custom jars are needed really, all you have to do is set up a forge 39.0.17 server and upload the mod and config folder

Yes, if possible. Depending on the mod you have. Example of that is: Travelers backpack (it has controls that allow that), also this sophisticade backpack. Now if you want those backpacks not to take up space of the armor. You must install Curios Api

That is part of FTB chunks, press '\', bottom left has a cog icon, click it. First category will have an option to create death waypoints, set it to false, then also set the show waypoints option to false. Keybind may be conflicting with another, no idea as this is a copy paste from when I wrote it for Medieval MC

Inside the main modpack folder will be a 'logs' folder, which inside that is the latest.log file, upload it here. To get to the main modpack folder, just right click on the modpack in the my modpacks screen and click on the open folder option

Forge has the most content (1.16.5) but requires more ram overall, and performance may be lower for some on lower end computers, fabric has less and different content with better performance and ram requirements

If auto detect doesn't show it, direct it via the 3 buttons next to the "java path" box, you'll need to direct it to the javaw.exe file of the java 17 install

This is because a lot of modders are porting their mods directly to 1.18 and they don't want to support 1.17 anymore.

Why are so many mods from 1.17 not in 1.18? The world seems less vibrant and fun tbh. More caves and cliffs, yes, but many fewer structures and quality of life mods (ex. better shields, stackable potions, etc.). I do love Croptopia, though I miss some of the features of Farmer’s Delight.

Hmm, that's a bit of a tough one because the content on both is quite different. Since not all mods do both forge and fabric, they both tend to have different experiences, my advice, try both, see which one you like the most. For Medieval MC, I'd suggest forge if you are into the Minecolonies mod, which is where you build up your own colony, but otherwise same advice, try both. Go into creative, explore for a bit and test out random mods to see what suits your fancy.

Now also as a note, if 1.16.5 forge is on the table, it has the most content overall since not all mods have ported to 1.18.1

The picture you posted is one stage away from saddle time.
Never get near water, you will not be able to get your mount out easily before it suffocates itself by drowning. Could use a leash and drag it out.
I've read you need to tame it again at adult stage, but I was able to directly saddle and fly once HP hit 61.
Raw fish tames the dragon but doesn't heal it. You need Raw meat for heals.

Like I said, be careful of water. I lost an aether dragon to three blocks deep river cuz I landed too close and he half bugged out/flew into it because of trees/pathing, I suggest always leaving your dragon on "sit still" mode. You can still mount/fly him and it helps keep them from bugging out/being silly

Everdawn: Theres houses where a portal can spawn up stairs and there is a villager there that u can trade for a flint and steal type thing to light the portal
Everbright: Same as everdawn, the portal spawns in a building, u can trade for the lighter to go there
Nether: Obsidian portal, flint and steal, vanilla
End: Find a stronghold and then light the portal, go to the end
The deeper dark: You need a block called the "Light n' Dark" its in the quest book
And lastly, The Abyss: you craft a portal out of unstable obsidian and light it with a Portal Activator

it seems to be fixed now as the mods have updated to work with newer forge versions. But i cant guarantee thats the case as I or others have not reported an issue other than the ones fixed. imo opinion it should be good to update to v12.5

If you keep your configs and clientside settings you will not lose anything.

As for updating: It depends on your launcher. GDLauncher has a feature where you can just switch the modpack version and it keeps all your clientside stuff like servers etc

most shaders work with new versions as the optifine renderer as always been “similar” between versions and i doubt shader loading is different

and as they’re written in glsl they should work

perhaps an update to the modpack will come along that really expands upon things.

A drastic enough change that refines and rebalances gameplay in a particularly pivotal way.

right now i've got it running with Complementary shaders and it's so dang nice

this feels like a bit of a 'sweet spot' for me so i suppose i can wait till the next 'sweet spot' comes along

gotta say the nether looks especially glorious using Complementary. Especially if you remember to turn on the smoky effect in the shader configs.
