please try changing the java version

this is sometimes caused by microsoft's openjdk, ive no idea what in particular

#

try adoptium or even graalvm

#

Could be a driver issue too, that's a common cause of the access violation 0x5 errors

indeed, tho unfortunately it doesnt specify which driver could be at fault

and of course, it could be memory

best to try changing the java version though, hardware issues are usually less common

Better MC 4 - v39 crashed. The logs have been uploaded to mclo.gs:

  1. 1.20.1 [FORGE]
  2. What launcher did you run Minecraft with? CurseForge
  3. Have you changed the modpack in any way except mods? No, just added Create.
  4. v39
  5. Have you ever gotten past the crash condition without crashing, or does the game always crash? I have been able to play this modpack before, and have not edited anything since I last played two days ago.
  6. What steps cause the crash? Just launching the game.

Mod list changes beyond the modpack:

Added mods:

create_enchantment_industry-1.3.2-for-create-6.0.3.jar

Updated mods:
storagenetwork (1.12.2 > 1.11.3)
#

I can just reinstall but that's kind of a pain in the ass

teal urchin
#

reinstall without making your changes so that we can be sure its not our base modpack causing the crash

#

since the crash could be related to your changes

lunar birch
#

ok

#

it's just odd that i've been able to play before with the changes

#

and it's only crashing now

teal urchin
#

what changed since the last time you were able to play

lunar birch
#

literally nothing

#

that's the thing

#

like how can it run fine one day and then crash the other without me having made any changes between then

teal urchin
#

hm i think i see the problem in code

#

have you tried reloading the modpack again, see if that works?

#

out of curiosity

lunar birch
#

reloading it? I just redownloaded it

#

what would reloading entail? just launching it again?

teal urchin
#

yeah

lunar birch
#

wait am i going crazy, i just opened the mods folder and it's empty

teal urchin
#

that don't sound right lmao

lunar birch
#

wait but the game still launches

#

what

#

the mods are still there in game but they're just not in the folder??

stone mountain
teal urchin
#

are you by any chance looking in t he wrong folder?

#

yeah, which folder are you looking in

#

how'd you get to it

lunar birch
#

what the shit

#

this is the folder that has...historically had the mods in it

#

lol

#

so Open Folder > mods

stone mountain
#

Do you have more than one BMC in CF?

lunar birch
#

yes

stone mountain
teal urchin
#

that's quite confusing lol

#

i guess you may have to open the folder manually?

#

open mc then press resource packs -> open folder and then back out from there to find it ig

lunar birch
#

ok so i just added create into that empty folder, and it shows up in the world

#

so

#

uh

#

ig it works

#

ig ill just play until this becomes a problem?

teal urchin
#

maybe curseforge has a unique system where it tracks the mods separately

#

idk this definitely seems like a unique curseforge design

#

might keep modpack specific mods elsewhere, and links them up during the running

lunar birch
#

ive never seen this before fwiw

There is an issue with Java 17.0.8 and newer where you may experience "A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment", which can cause the Java runtime to crash under a variety of circumstances. To resolve this:
Mac:

  1. Go here and hover over the Download buttons until you see one with the option to install a .dmg file. If you have an M-series Mac, then make sure to install the ARM64 version of this file.
  2. Run the !alternates command in #bots and follow the directions. If you already have ATL installed, move on to step 3.
  3. Click "Settings" on the right
  4. Click "Java/Minecraft" at the top

To better assist with fixing your issue, we will need some logs:

  • Curseforge -> Right click the modpack instance -> Open Folder.

  • ATLauncher -> Click 'Open Folder' on the modpack instance.

  • MultiMC -> Select your instace and click 'Instance Folder' on the right.

  • ** For servers** -> Open the folder containing your server files.

To find the latest.log file, navigate to the 'logs' folder.
To find the hs_err_pid.log file, simply look for the file name after opening the instance folder.
To find a crash report, navigate to the 'crash-reports folder and find the most recent file after your crash occurred.

If this command was run in response to your question/issue, it is likely because switching away from the launcher you are currently using would fix your problem.
From our experience, the most stable launcher by far is ATLauncher, also known as ATL. Keep in mind that ATL is NOT related to TLauncher in any way, and is not a cracked launcher.

To install ATL, do the following:
1. Go to https://atlauncher.com/download. If you are on MacOS, then choose the "Jar" version under the "Other" tab.
2. Install and run the setup, then open the program.
3. Login to your Microsoft account that owns the Java Edition of Minecraft from the Accounts tab on the right. This process is 100% safe, as it goes directly through Microsoft. ATL doesn't see your account credentials.
4. Go to the Packs tab on the right, then click "Curseforge" on the left.
5. Search the modpack you wish to download.
6. Click "Install". Then, follow the on-screen directions.
7. Go to the Instances tab, and click "Play" on the modpack you downloaded. If you ever see an "Update" button on the instance, click it.
This video explains the process: https://youtu.be/xMYW1wMbmkM

To transfer your Curseforge world to ATL, simply right click the modpack on Curseforge, or click the 3 dots, then click "Open Folder". Copy the Saves folder, then click "Open Folder" on ATL and paste the Saves folder there. Do the same with the XaerosMinimap folder, or the Journeymap folder, to transfer over any waypoints you've created.
Because ATL downloads the exact same files as Curseforge does, your world will be the exact same and you will be able to join the same servers. ATL also works without an internet connection (after you've installed the modpack, of course), and does not have any bloat from Overwolf. You are free to uninstall both Overwolf and Curseforge with ATL installed.

It is highly advised to not use Optifine, as it is very glitchy, will increase loading times to upwards of 10 minutes, and will decrease your FPS substantially. All Luna Pixel Studios modpacks come with shader support without Optifine via Oculus on Forge and Iris on Fabric. Optifine is also incompatible with all of our modpacks. The game will not launch with Optifine installed.

If you are interested in Optifine alternatives for your own gameplay, you can find a list here
Note that a majority of these mods are already included in our modpacks.

For an indepth explanation of why Optifine is bad, you can read this document created by Sodium's developer, Jellysquid.

  5. Set "Use Java Provided by Minecraft" to false by unchecking the checkbox
  6. Manually specify the following Java path in the text box to the left to the "Reset" button: /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/zulu-21.jdk/Contents/Home

Free Method

To host a server on your own computer, read the selfhosting guide.
This guide goes over how to install, create, and launch a free Minecraft server on all operating systems (MacOS, Linux and Windows). The guide also guides you through installing Java and optimizing your server for better performance.

If you are installing one of our older modpacks, ignore the "README" file that is included in the serverpack files, as they have outdated information.

Paid Method

We suggest renting a server from Bisect Hosting:
Approx. $10 - $25 a month depending on what plan you choose. You can also get 25% off with Code LunaPixel.

Go here and order a plan which fits you. We suggest 1GB per player but nothing lower than 4GB as the server needs at least 3GB to run.

Go to #server-hosting for more Info!

The following advice works for both the Free and Paid methods:

Transferring Your World

If you're playing Singleplayer and want to transfer your world to your server, simply go to your modpack files and navigate to the saves folder. Inside of this folder, you will see your world saves. Rename your desired world save to world. You can then transfer this folder to your server files. If your world was hosted via world sharing, this process has to be done by the person who would click "Share World".

Fixing Lag

To resolve lag issues, simply run the !tps command in #bots and follow the directions provided.

im running the BMC5 server on an old pc of mine

4th gen i5
16gb ddr3 (i have 8gb allocated for the server)
128gb ssd, running Ubuntu

set up server, ran, have like 4 people on it, seems good
im on it solo i got a dragon mount, using it at speed is painful
chunks load very slow, every 2 chunks it stops my momentum (cant see anything during this, myself nor dragon)

i remember running BMC3 server on the same pc
somehow fixed slow chunk loading by removing betterchunkloading (i know right?)
idk what to do for this modpack as that mod's not there but my chunks slow

is this just my hardware limitation? is there some way to optimize chunk loading
i've heard smth about pre-loading chunks, takes a bunch of storage, idk, curious on any fixes on this

Please follow the guide here for changing the Java version your server uses. This will improve performance dramatically. If you are on a third party server host, you likely can not change the Java version your server uses. Bisect Hosting and a few VPS providers do allow changing Java version, though, which can usually be done through your server dashboard.

The method on Bisect is to simply go to the main dashboard page, and select "GraalVM 22" as the Java distribution. If it crashes, use 21 instead.

For further performance improvements, you can also follow this guide.

Reducing server render distance in the server.properties file is also a very good way of reducing lag. Most of our modpacks include mods like Bobby and Farsight, which make it so reducing server render distance will not affect players.

If lag persists, run the following command ingame:
/spark profiler start --only-ticks-over 50
Then, send the link in this channel.

We don't support Aternos nor can we assist you with using it for reasons listed below;

  1. You are unable to add / edit the mods to implement a fix that can be game changing at times.
  2. We are unable to control the updates of our packs on Aternos, nor ever will.
  3. The hosting is not strong enough to host our packs on there without it crashing every so often.
  4. We have other free methods that work much better than Aternos does. Run the !ws command and the !server command in #bots for more information on how to host a server for free.

You are free to uninstall both Overwolf and Curseforge with ATL installed.

heavy gazelle
zinc bough
# hot rampart Okay but it’s supposed to be vanilla+

BetterMC is very focused on expanding the vanilla experience, exploration etc... Hence BiomesoPlenty, BetterEnd, and BetterNether being huge focuses along with dimension mods, because most vanilla players like exploring -- Along with lots of mods that add bosses and late-game content. Redstone is already a wildly complex system that doesn't need many "QOL" upgrades. Nor is redstone heavily (or, at all) used by most vanilla players. And most redstone mods, go a lot deeper than adding a bit of QOL. If you want packs with more basic redstone there's absolutely tons of kitchen-sink packs already that'll fill that niche. And then tons of packs beyond that, that get very complex with the redstone and automation.

Also, dunno what you mean by "better enchant mods". There's some that let you choose enchants, but those are basically cheat mods and negate the point of villager trading, xp farms, and exploring for loot.

hot rampart
#

Idk I feel like enchanting in general in vanilla is lackluster and this modpack doesnt do anything on that front

hot rampart
zinc bough
#

Can't speak for that, I've mostly played BMC4 and I never found Netherite in the nether fortress. Though even if you did, mining for netherite has never been fun, and most people I know forego doing it at all.

hot rampart
hot rampart
#

Not sure if that changes anything

stone mountain
#

In terms of mining for Netherite scrap - that's boring

zinc bough
#

Also keep in mind that BMC4 is a modPACK. Luna Pixel did not create most the mods in it. Expecting very curated and custom experience to exactly how you want it, both isn't exactly what they're doing, and would be expecting them to know your personal tastes in the first place.

#

It's vanilla+ in the fact that it keeps a lot of the core mechanics of the game without removing them, or overriding them with superior methods, while adding new content onto it, and appeals to what most casual players would want in a pack

#

Hence why most redstone/automation/tech mods aren't really what it's aiming for

hot rampart
#

If you have an instamine pick for netherite that is

stone mountain
#

I hate bed mining

hot rampart
#

And you use the border chunk method as well

stone mountain
#

I know how to mine for it, it's still boring

zinc bough
#

And most people I know don't know that exists, or don't bother doing it at all.

zinc bough
#

Even when you got the beds, it takes 3 hours or so

#

You are not finding 36 debris in 20 minutes.

hot rampart
#

3 hours?

#

Does prom 2 H-era have increased scrap spawns cuz I’ve def found lots of scrap in around that time

zinc bough
#

Yes? I literally did it 2 days ago on my world. Even with simple-storage network remote access and beds ready to go, and having done bed mining 20+ times in my minecraft life-time, it took me well about 2 hours to get enough for a full set.

hot rampart
#

In about an hour I’d say I’m confident I could do it

#

I could find 37 in an hour for sure

#

Also it’s called MINEcraft if u don’t expect to do mining u know that’s a bit odd

hot rampart
zinc bough
#

Yes? You realize there's an average of 1.6 netherite per chunk. And it takes at least 3 bed explosions to clear a chunk, right?

#

Not even "clear". But to simply get through it

#

Or maybe 2

#

But between each explosion you need to also put out fires and look around to make sure you aren't missing it, before moving on

hot rampart
#

So ur just slow

zinc bough
#

And then possibly patch in lava, etc..

hot rampart
#

I don’t do that

#

If I don’t see it I just move on

#

You were using an insta mine pickaxe?

zinc bough
#

Then I know you definitely don't do it in an hour. Because I've even bed-mined with X-ray enabled a few times just to see how generation of debris relates to bed explosions, and you'd be missing like 60% of the debris if you aren't checking walls and fires.

hot rampart
#

I mean tbf I’ve only done prom 2

#

I was using a a backpack with the crafting thing with a bunch of wool and logs in my bag

#

And I found way more than 36 in an hour

zinc bough
#

Even looked it up to get a general opinion and everything I find says 2.5-4 hours

Let's put it in a more simple way: It takes 2 bed explosions to cross the distance of 1 chunk, assuming you place them perfectly. The width would only cover half a chunk, so roughly 50% chance you find 1 debris. Expect, debris can uncommonly spawn outside of the radius of that bed, but not commonly, so let's say... 40% chance, which is probably really generous. Assuming average luck, it'll take you ballpark 120 or so beds to get 36 debris. But you stated you don't bother looking around or clearing fires, which really lowers your chance to somewhere around the 25% ballpark, or more around 160+ beds? Assuming it takes you about 20 seconds to hop back on platforms, place another bed, and corner tap it so you don't die of explosion damage: 53 minutes or so. But this also is factoring near perfect performance, perfect bed placement (which you just won't have), no added time to eat and regen, etc...

So your original statement of 20 minutes is just, a physical improbability. Hour maybe, if you really went to town on it full concentration, with no mistakes. For average person who'll probably be watching a video, chatting, or doing whatever, more like 2+ hours.

Edit: Actually, it wouldn't be a cube but a circular explosion so probably even less of a chance of finding debris, and therefore more time. Or using 3-4 beds to clear a proper radius around your tunnel.

Outside of whatever Chloe might help you with. Another idea that may or may not be feasible for you: You can install a chunk pregen mod, and pre-gen chunks in a large area. Downside is, if you want it to pre-gen a significant amount of space, you'd have to leave it running for quite a while before playing properly. And depending on how large of an area you pre-gen, it will increase the file-size of your world by a lot.

The Essential mod is completely incompatible with all of our modpacks, and there's no reason to use it. All of our modpacks already come with built-in, free world hosting, by clicking the "Share World' button in the Open to LAN menu. You can learn more by typing !ws in the #bots channel. You can also run type !server in the same channel to learn how to properly host a server for better performance and more flexibility. In modpacks that aren't owned by us, you can use mods such as e4mc or WorldHost to host a server completely for free without Essential's many issues and crashes and the microtransactions that they constantly bother users with. # wanton tapir what is better bmc4 or 5?

Preferences based on mods included. Personally, in any modpack series, I stick to the one before the current version. Because I want to play newer minecraft, but the newest version of any modpack is typically still a work in progress and not 100% done, complete, or has as many mods as the previous iteration. So for BMC I play on 4. Same for say, All The Mods, with 10 being the newest, I play on 9. Etc...

#

But if you don't mind older minecraft that might be missing some big updates, it is always worth looking at the older packs. I know for example, there was a lot of mods for 1.12.2 that never got updated to the newer versions of MC. So a lot of older modpacks feature a lot of cool older mods that newer packs can't. For example, I'm a huge betweenlands fan, but sadly the mod never updated past 1.12.2

I'd say 1.12 was one of the real big breaking points for minecraft modding history. A lot of mod and modpack creators stopped creating after that, due to big changes in Minecraft which required mods/packs to overhaul a lot of stuff. And a lot of people simply didn't want to do all that work.

Lot of new stuff took it's place, so I wouldn't say current MC modpacks are inferior in any way. But it's like, 1.12 vs current are very different experiences.

To learn more about alternatives to the Essential mod, check out this website.

You (likely) need to update your graphics drivers in order to resolve the crash. Here's how to go about doing that!

1. Identify your graphics card
if you already know skip to the next step

  • Open task manager
  • Navigate to the "Performance" tab (on Windows 11 this is the button that looks like a heart pulse)
  • Press the GPU 0 graph and read your GPU from the top right

Note:
In some cases you may see a GPU 0 and GPU 1. This means your CPU has its own GPU, as well as a dedicated one. You probably want GPU 1 (which is usually the better one), but you can ask staff to clarify if necessary.

2. Download your drivers from the manufacturers site
Depending on what you read before, you likely need drivers from either AMD, Intel, or NVIDIA

AMD: https://www.amd.com/en/support
Intel: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download-center/home.html
NVIDIA: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Note:

  • For NVIDIA you want to select "Game Ready Driver (GRD)" (this is the default option) for the best performance. Once installing you'd probably prefer downloading GeForce Experience, which will notify you when there's an available drivers update.
  • For Intel, you probably want to press "Get Started" under the "Automatically update your drivers and software", which will simplify the process and update everything automatically
  • For AMD you probably want to just press "Download Windows Drivers", which will download something called AMD Adrenaline, which will update your drivers automatically.

3. Run the installation, restart your computer, and try playing MC again

  • At this point, hopefully your Minecraft is running. If it still does not work, please post any new logs and staff will help assist you with finding the right solution.

ATL also works without an internet connection (after you've installed the modpack, of course), and does not have any bloat from Overwolf. You are free to uninstall both Overwolf and Curseforge with ATL installed.

Apologies I don't mean to clog your support channel. I am running a server through a third party host, and have managed to get the server and my launcher to work with forge and have been able to connect to my server. I have been able to launch better mc through cursed forge, but anytime I try to take the next step as to adding these mods to the server I run into some critical errors and my server crashes. Any help you can send my way is appreciated. Let me know if I need to make a ticket somewhere or take this issue to another channel. Thanks.

is there any way to add optifine into the atl launcher?

versed mountainBOT
#

We don't support Aternos nor can we assist you with using it for reasons listed below;
