The issue you may be running into is that some developers view distance fighting as "ranged = cheese."

To understand why these desicions are made you need to look at the developer's design theory and what he's trying to accomplish.

The devs of this pack seem to be seeking to increase the feeling of "I'm threatened" and killing a mob from 30 blocks away that doesn't have a way to fight back doesn't match that design theory.

The people who made the bosses didn't consider magic when they made them. They built them for vanilla, and then people came in behind and buffed them for modded minecraft, but didn't alter the base programming of the mob. To eliminate cheese the original mod designers removed the ability of the bow to cause damage, thus forcing the player to engage with the boss.

I can assure you right now if you enchant a sword with sharpness 5, or any other damage increasing enchant and you compare it to a endgame bow with ranger and all you will deal more damage with the sword.

Not just that, blood step as a cantrip is extremely good, and great old one's spell selection is pretty good

doesn't have a lot of offensive spells, but it gets most good defensive spells outside a heal. Grabbed Holy spells for healing circle and used the pillar build with geomancy for offense. Then picked up aqua/ lightning later on

but armorer artificer gets ice block so I was using that for heals
tho atp i could probably make infinite medkits and potions
