UMD cs+ quantum vs UIUC CE, which is good?
uiuc ce is quite well regarded (top 5 program)
but depends on whether u wanna do CS or CE
if you have a really clear career path or idea on what courses you want to take, you can compare these the courses you have to/ get to take in these two programs. that way you can compare the flexibility and alignment of the program with what you want
imo, you can also try to find info on the career outcomes (typical employers and salary) for graduates at the program you’re interested in at each school
oh, i’d say it’s also worth it to try to gauge which school has a stronger pipeline into research for a specific field or a stronger pipeline industry job/ employer, if you have an idea of what you want to do
tldr, hopefully the factors above help you make a decision on which program is better (for you)
uiuc system engineering vs purdue CE , any chances of uiuc CE based on 1st year GPA.
if u want uiuc ce id guess u need at least a 3.85
should i do math or cs minor with compe? do companies even care?
Dont think u can do cs minor and compe
ya ig that makes sense they are rlly similar courses
what about math tho would it look good?
this is true
andrej stojakovic
guys i committed here today 🥹
is 15k scholarship/year for oos good
They didn’t give me jack so I would say so
ah
bro why is UIUC so expensive
thats more than 90% of people get lol
Ah
UT SDs in state or UIUC cs + Econ oos. Cost is not a problem but like if I won’t gain to much then ofc cheaper option
any chances of finaid for early action acceptances ?
Hey guys how’re the internships at uiuc? Is it hard to get them(
if money isn't at all relevant then if you prefer cs, uiuc is prob better
data science isn't the same thing as cs
unlikely since financial aid / scholarship decisions probably would have been released at this point
It won't be handed to you but there are definitely people here and on this thread who have freshman internships. It's on each individual person to put in the work to get an internship though
career fairs are pretty helpful though
most if not all of my friends have them
it shouldn't be too hard to get one if you put in the effort
indeed
indeed.
Yah ofc but is it closely available or harder to get bc it’s in the middle of a corn field
And there’s no close internships kinda
whats UT SDs? austin?
ut austin stastics and ds
Ah
What do you like more? Stats and ds or cs+econ?
its not for me but he wants to go to swe
Does visiting campus and speaking to the admissions office as an international student make a difference in getting off the waitlist?
Probably hurts. They dont like that kind of stuff
i dont think it hurts or helps
they probably wont gaf
you probably arent even gonna be able to speak w an admissions officer
the front desk staff r just gonna be like oh do u have apt or idk if u dont we cant blah
yeah
anybody who is at uiuc right now
how hard are the placement exams for physics c mechanics and e&m and would you reccomend doing those over taking the course there
doing CE btw
did you take C?
i took mech and got a 4 and am studying for e&m right now
it's a bit harder than getting a 5 on the AP exam
oh ok
you need an 80% to pass
so take the course unless your confident with the material?
you can try the prof, just that if you fail you can't try again
you also have to take thermal and quantum physics which builds off mech and e&m
which is worth considering as well
ok
i mean just do the hw and stuff and you can get an A
slight gpa boost but the time commitment will be somewhat annoying
🔥
B+
Yea
schizophrenia contest
yo how bad do your grades have to be to get your admission rescinded
I might end with 4 Bs and 2 As this semester 😭
You'll be fine
Generally avoid Cs, but even then they would ask about the drop in grades before rescinding
Heyy lol
Even if you get a C i thought they will rescind
I think if you get a D or F they will
probably not
it's not that likely theyll rescind as long as you're actually trying in your classes
does UIUC come to other country to celebrate admitted students event
only know purdue did that
taiwan
why is your pfp stokes theorem lmao
is it stokes? i haven't take calc 3 in forever
it is a random thing i took online
gonna chaneg the theorem soon
i see
I'm currently thinking of switching out of industrial engineering after being directly admitted does anyone know how hard it is to switch into meche / ee within Grainger?
the more I do research the more I feel like idek what I wanna do anymore 💔
i think transferring within grainger is much easier than if you werent in grainger
meche probably not too bad? idk abt ee but it's one of the more competitive ones i think
by when do we get to know honors decisions?
out already i think
oh ok
is UIUC worth 280k cost of attendance for ECE over Texas A&M full ride scholarship for ECE? Major guaranteed at both schools. Parents would be able to full pay UIUC so I won't have to take on any debt, but I just wanna know if it's worth it. I'm a texas resident
no
i'd suggest using the money for something like improving the quality of life at TAMU instead
free is incredibly good!
and congrats btw!
Did everyone get that waitlist email asking to confirm if you want to remain on it
i got it
Yep, do they send it every year?
no clue
i was just curious if its a good sign or anything like that
i have no hope for this wl but ill take anything atp
Ye, it’s like a loci I guess cuz they don’t take loci
i think its a good sign, as few might miss the email and they might be out of wl
but doesnt sound ethical as its unfair to be out of wl after accepting the wl and missing this notification
do you want to do an MS?
if so, I would recommend doing undergrad at TAMU and doing and MS at a more prestigious school
Yeah I do
i see
honestly I recommend saving the money for an MS tbh
at the end of the day you will end up getting a degree for a highly ranked university (hopefully)
Wl?
Aren't all wl decisions released on the same day?
Nah
I’ve seen people get off
It stops moving mid June that’s what it says
omg i got off the waitlist
What school
any international student that got off waitlist?
My friend got off for this too
Oos or in state?
Has anyone gotten off for comp eng ?
