i think one reason is that for all colleges excpet berkeley, goeriga tech, and uiuc since they all don't accept external rec letters, I had my coach who is an MIT grad send a rec letter that confirmed that I was actually captain, confirmed the work I did and that I didn't just lie about being captain or the awards we won

all the top quant firms interview at both UW and GT

they can take as many and little as they like
