understood, I will keep that in mind
You gotta fill an application if i transfer from normal to honours?
i never lived in them but every time i walked through when visiting friends i was kinda just like damn π
and till which year into college can you avail these housing benefits?
cuz you said in your senior year you weren't eligible
thats bc i was already living off campus
well
i guess i wouldve been too late anyway bc it was past housing selection
It looks so mordern compared to the rest of the campus lol
if you want to live there senior year, youd have to apply and get in by junior fall at the latest i think
ohh I see
but most live off campus senior year
living off campus is cheaper?
usually
signifigantly cheaper if youll be here in the summer for any reason
got it thx!
i pay like 900/mo rn
so around 10k per year
so its cheaper than any single room
and obv i have my own room thats much bigger than umass single rooms, kitchen, my own bathroom, etc etc
so good deal
if you want to beat the price of a double, you could
you got rommates or your own apartment?
i have housemates
and how far is it from campus
bus stop is like a 2 minute walk from our back door
yeahh that's what i meant mb
and its a 10 minute bus ride or so
yeah nw i just want to make clear i have my own room π
were you living off campus since your freshmen year?
i moved off my senior year
i lived in northeast freshman, and central sophomore and junior year
I see
which one did you like better between the two?
i liked central
further from classes, but felt much better socially
and was near the greenhouse which i really liked to chill in
brett is a very nice dorm to look at after freshman year
much nicer than average
ofc!
i like it
i didnt check out many books
but du bois has a lot of quiet study spaces with nice views
SEL (science and engineering library) is good for collaborating/working in groups
so yall live in a big house then?
its like a condo kinda unit
ooh
3bed, 1.5 bath
decent size living room, dining room. kitchen
huge basement for storage
its nice
1.5 bath what?
usually 1 bath is a full bathrooom, with a shower
if it doesnt have a shower its counted as .5
3 people share it?
ye
nice i see
kitchen gets a little crowded sometimes but im on a later schedule than the others so its good :p
lmaoo W
Any advice on finding a roommate
facebook is often a good place for this, usually groups are made for each class for roommates/housing
or instagram mayhap
admitted students discords/days/events
take me off waitlist pleaseππ
just declined my offer lol
hope u get off
electrical eng if that matters idk
lowkey it does cause iβm doing engineering tooππ
Dang the competition is real
If anyone has any questions I attended the admitted students event today and learned A LOT of good information about facilities, curriculum, and job/internship/research/after grad statistics so if anyone has anything to ask lmk (this information applies mainly for ECE)
well I have a question for cs (I did see you said mainly for ece, but if you have opinions about this I'd be quite happy), are the clubs/hackathons active and how are the outcomes?
also is there a whole another building for cs?
yeah
theres a cs building (and another new one under construction) but very few classes are held there, and the ones that are are usually grad level
its mostly offices and some labs
theres two hackathons each year, HackUMass in the fall and HackHer in the spring. HackUMass is the big one
also quite a few actives clubs, but hard to tell which ones are active or dead from the website thing. theres a club fair early in the sem that makes it easier to find good ones
Well I think Luc answered it pretty well
I don't have direct experience with the clubs obviously but based off the information they gave us there are a TON of ece clubs to join and the CS program is way bigger so I'd assume theres a good amount of overlap if not more going on over there
As for outcome in terms of ECE (I'd assumed CS might be somewhat similar? It's hard to say as the markets are very different) it was like 97% working or in grad school 6 months after graduating with an average starting salary of like 70-80k
I really doubt this would apply the same to CS though
You can get some kind of idea from the CICS destination report: https://www.cics.umass.edu/careers/explore-career-paths/destination-report
The goal of the Destination Report is to provide alumni placement information to CICS students, alumni, employers, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
its dependant on people actually doing the survey so its probably bias in some way
but it looks like compared to ECE, higher starting salary but also lower employment rate
which is kinda what i would expect
Thank you Luc and Glohny for replying to my questions π
didn't know there was already an another building for cs (I assumed it was taken in coe) thank you π
also, kinda unrelated, but which one do u feel from ASU or Umass is better for CS?
umass 100%
alright! thanks!
UMASS by a long shot
Thanks π
yo is there a whatsapp group for umass amherst business students?
if not i can make one if anyone is interested lmk

that would be cool
