I realize that
fair but premed is a big gamble
It is, I could take the easy way out and just do Uiuc cs
But I’m listening to my heart
Something is telling me to do premed
i suppose that the extra two years to choose ur major is worth it
I just know a buttload ton of ppl would kill to take my spot at uiuc
I’m turning down UIUC for UT
I’ve talked to folks on my Unc visit and they went, why not just go to uiuc for what you have? You’re set
because i’m closer to home/in state
But like, idk I don’t think I’ll be happy
but i’m still kinda weary about it
I’m oos Cali for all
that’s fair
yeah I mean if ur hearts telling u to do premed, id say go ahead but tbh if you do med it’s gotta be for the love of the game
anyways if u were to do CS, all ima say UT info is not the move. UNC lets you freely pick ur major for two yrs so that’s calm
also you can still do premed as math+cs iirc
If I want to do cs I’d just pick uiuc lol
If I want to do some form of engineering other than cs I could take a risk with Austin
And see where I end up
can someone pls drop the uiuc server link
ill send it to you
If you've set up your NetID you can join the discord student hub using it and check out all the UIUC servers
for anyone who appealed
how do results come out
do you get an email?
and its like checking your decision
someone pls send the uiuc server link
I’m pretty sure it’s just this but not 100%
join the student hub with your netid, everything's there including major-specific servers
found it dw
I’m assuming I would’ve gotten an email soon but my decision uploaded into the portal today
My Appeal was denied
At least I can move on now I guess
what does it look like?
it just still shws "applicant agrees to waitlist"
when did u submit your appeal btw
March 31st
Just says “appeal denied”
does UIUC not give decision letters? need to download my letter
they do, click the notice of admission letter in the portal and u can download it
can you send an ss if possible i can't find the button
no i got rejected dawg
but i need the letter for visa
they require all the letters
so this wont work for me
Not for rejections or waitlists
I’m sure if you call them they can help you out
im assuming appeals come out every friday
@peak wedge I am sorry can you send me the Uiuc server link? I don't think I am on it as I didn't provide my netid.
Sent dms!
Also me please
I am also consider UIUC
sent!
thank you please, I am considering Cornell vs UIUC
Also Canadian universities such as Toronto and Waterloo, I am an international from Vietnam
if you can pay for it, go for cornell but thats just my opinion and it depends on your major tbh
Congrats! What major?
CS
UIUC is a no brainer honestly
I have posted on Schools X vs Y forum
could you mind discuss about this
It's cheaper (assuming you didn't apply for aid) and better for CS
Sure
Responded!
@peak wedge I thought it was a different one bc it never asked to input my ID number for discord. But I am already in!
@rapid socket already did some hours ago
could you send me the link too please?
me too please
thanks
Hey guys what’s up
I got rejected EA round and just got into parkland pathways
I’m most likely thinking about doing it, I’m a Illinois resident and my main goal would be engineering
Still deciding a specific major
Anyone know or heard about the program?
Would I be allowed to join the discord server as I’m highly thinking about going to UIUC but I would be considered a dual enrolled student (both a parkland college student and a UIUC student)
My understanding is you are a parkland student until your sophomore year, and then you apply for uiuc after you fulfill all the required classes, correct?
Im sure you can still join the discord server, just most of the information you learn there probably won’t be applicable until two years from now
Yes but you can also take UIUC classes (2 max per semester), access all UIUC resources, join UIUC frats, and get a UIUC dorm
Ah
That sounds like a pretty good program
Although I don’t know if it’s worth paying the premium for university housing if you don’t have to
I sent the link
Also the classes you take at UIUC are based on the parkland tuition rate
2 classes?
So they’re really cheap compared to UIUC
Yes
Per semester
That’s cool
True but I lowkey want the college experience
It’s also already cheap
I think with dorm it’s around 20-24k per year
Both
I think primarily you’re a parkland student because you take the most credit hours at parkland but you’re considered both a UIUC student and parkland student
Ah nice
Im guessing you wouldn’t know but in case you do, what would you put on your resume?
And I’m from Illinois
So your final degree will be from UIUC
Not from parkland
Rightttt
Well
Im guessing you get your associates from parkland
And then bachelors from Illinois
Yep
Good for you tho
Thanks, all worked out in the end 🙏
Yes I have :))
Extremely helpful guy, I’ve been dm’ing him (the guy who wrote the post) since last year on Reddit about the program
Amazing human being
I appealed and my rejection came on Friday but they just emailed me today that there’s a decision ready 😭😭
@lone ginkgo what's the decision? Are you fighting illini???
No unfortunately not 😦
But I will be trying to transfer in the future so maybe in a couple years
Basically my school has internals and board exams, but the board exam results only come out in August. Since UIUC requires senior transcript in July, the internals will be sent. I went down from A+AABC to ABBCC in internals, but I'm confident I will get at least A+AABB in board exams since the the grading system is different. Could I be rescinded just based on preboard results, or will they ask me to explain the dip?
Aww 😔
That’s nice idea and also saves money!
I will also be doing the same but be living in UIUC dorms and taking UIUC classes in the fall alongside being dual enrolled in parkland college to finish off my geneds
they sent me an appeal saying my appeal was rejected
from grainger
but they still put me on the wailist from before
You might need to wait till June
@wide spoke bc that's when wait-list comes out. Is your first choice Grainger and 2nd choice not Grainger?
Just making sure so I can get the right image
my first choice was cs & math
and i appealed to cs & physics
but they rejected the appeal
and stated that i was still on the waitlist
But what is your 2nd choice?
@wide spoke can you tell me what's your 2nd choice? I might have an idea on what's going on
math
@wide spoke if you are doing math at LAS as your 2nd choice major. Then you def got in for your 2nd choice major but they think you are still a worthy applicant and might have a chance for CS.
oh
does this mean that they will give me admission to math in like june
if i dont make the cut for cs?
Yes it seems like it
Are you oos?@wide spoke
I think yes bc Math at LAS and if you were applying for CS you must have a good application like a high gpa and test scores.
And cs + math is more selective but just math is less selective
But ey! If you are waitlisted then you have a shot still at CS
@wide spoke were you admitted to your second choice?
yes
i applied cs & math first choice
is there a good chance i get off the waitlist?
the uiuc common data set says its very low in general
is there anything differnet this yera
@wide spoke I think they put you on wait-list bc of your first choice and think there might be a chance for you at CS + math
Bc if you applied for this major that means you have a good profile which makes me believe there is a high chance you are good for math at LAS.
And still think your worthy for cs and math and just want to check your profile again if they see those not committing withdrawing some room left for qualifying applicants or etc or you will get in for math at las
And if you get into math at las then you can transfer to engineering and business if you want to do with math so it can be more prestigious I guess bc I think CS you can't transfer into btw. But either or, I have faith in you.
how is pure math at uiuc to cs + math transfer
I think most people suggest a 3.9-4.0 gpa
oh 💀
transfer to CS+X is very difficult
Email them
also i doubt you'll get rescinded
Anyone doing Material Science and Engineering here ?
Also are there threads on housing and connecting for room mates for UIUC?
Hey sorry I haven’t checked this in a minute
I can send u the ‘29 server, there’s a roommate finder and a lot of helpful people
declined my UIUC offer today, best of luck to all the waitlist warriors & cs+x!
uhm i misread the waitlist deadline (just submitted it today).. and i applied for cs.. should i email them or is it a lost cause
💔💔💔
Where are you going
Committed dubs
can't afford 60k a year for UIUC so i'll most likely be studying in my home country (Vietnam) & hope i win the lottery & transfer!
declined cs+chem
declined mat sci
declined cs+ling
Is anyone declining math + cs?
My friend did
How cooked would I be as a potential external engineering transfer to here
^
also isnt uiuc waitlist like 1% or smthg lamo
declined cs+ling
3%
But it’s not ranked so it’s a fixed 3% rate for everyone
Anytime from May 1 to June 30 from what I’ve heard
Wdym by that
Like how difficult is it to transfer in
Ohhh I gotcha
I know they have partner programs with Illinois community college to basically guarantee your admission
Are you from Illinois by chance?
No unfortunately
I know it’s not easy but a man can only hope
Fr
No point in not trying
Look into these @lone ginkgo
If you want to transfer to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, reviewing our Transfer Handbook is the best way to prepare! It lists all of our required and recommended course sequences by major. Please note that information is subject to change and doesn’t constitute a contract between you and Illinois. Using the Handbook When you apply
Goddam average transfer gpa 3.86
Thanks!
Yeah ofc, good luck!
thanks!
💔 i believe
It’s okay you got it trust
1% means there’s still a chance
what abt for cs + x?
ohh ok thanks anyways!
The University of Illinois waitlist is unpredictable, but your response doesn’t have to be! Ivy Coach’s proven strategies help boost your chances of admission.
But some years it has been 0 but those were Covid years
wait really?
thats crazy
oh 2012
hopefully something like that happens again
I think it’ll be higher than last year but also not insanely high
Illinois had a housing issue so they need to scope out the right amount of people
most watilists arent ranked right?
Oh really
I didn’t really care about my wait lists from other college so I only did research for uiuc
But that’s good ig
UofA Optical Engineering
i just did
any wl movement
Not yet
😔
has anyone gotten off the waitlist
doesnt look like it
according to a reddit comment it’s unlikely to hear back until after May 15th (priority housing deadline)
wasnt priority housing deadline on 8th
everyone who got in, any tips for a rising senior? good stats, decent ecs, good writing skills?
im tryna do cs + x program
what's the x you're interested in?
Music or anthropology
fwiw you will have to submit a portfolio for cs+music should you apply
what kinda portfolio
detailing your experience with music
video of you playing, pieces you’ve written, songs you’ve mixed, etc
is cs+stats or cs+ econ easier to get into for uiuc
Econ IMO
does uiuc accept updates from waitlisted students?
my final year scores just came in
they dont
im good at my instrument, but i havent composed anything myself, does that matter?
you need to be interesting
and have stuff that really aligns with the major you select
uiuc loves people who are interesting, but at the same time they also love people who really match up with what theyre applying for
Illinois looking for female roommate
stats yes, ecs i find it generally easier to get in for people with a specific interest (myself included)
everyone i know that got into uiuc (most grainger, some cs+x) has some unique theme throughout their ecs, like one guy only focuses on robotics and has a shit ton of FIRST awards, another has a ton of big AI side projects that turned into passion projects, another was big into media & photography and made that his own theme with projects
then there's me who's a hardcore band kid going into engineering
i think the main point is how u present urself
it's not like not doing a certain activity will disqualify you
Not a response to your inquiry but nice username
oh i see
imma hardcore orchestra kid going into cs, hopefully it works out lmfao
lmao maybe uiuc just likes kids like us
wait lowkey i wanna audition for percussion ensemble
Gl bro
i feel compelled to ask this person about Kafka
sorry i took a couple days to respond lol, no there’s not a requirement for composing or anything it’s more so just an example of ways you can show interest in music
since you’re a hardcore orchestra kid like you mentioned in another message i would say you’re well beyond the majority of people as far as music goes lol
Is there a UIUC admitted server?
yep there's a UIUC '29 server
connect your illinois email with the discord student hub thing, you'll find all the UIUC servers there!
Aight bet
Thanks
any way you can send me it?
Sent in DMs
Can you send it to me too?
sent
me as well please
just join the student hub you can discover all the UIUC servers there
guys are girls at UIUC bad
uiuc is a big school
you'll find someone you like
oh my god its captain ketchup
@hardy geyser ur graphic design major?
I'm incoming freshman and I found out there's bunch of placement tests I gotta take. Should I still take them all despite having corresponding AP scores?
yes
they are required it is not a "should i"
and do them at least 2 weeks before NSR date
see here for required placement tests by college:
oh crap thanks a lot
is there any wl movement
sup
ye i do
Has anyone received their uiuc waitlist results yet?
Seems like they took end June too literally
yea rejected
Aw man
how competitive is the statistics major
admissions-wise? that info isn’t really available
