idk i dont have her
i think so
we lost another soldier
What the heck is gacha fames adventurin?
And what's penacony?
I live under a rock.
it's about a game called honkai star rail
adventurine is a character, penacony is a location in that game
gacha game is basically a type of game where u have to like gamble for characters and other stuff
can i appeal from waitlist at cs + math
to cs + bio
i have bio awards and ecs
do yall tihn kit would work
probably not
Talk to your counselor about that
doesnt hurt to but prob not
There is a possibility about that but I won't recommend unless your counselor tells you it's fine.
If it's fine with your counselor that won't decrease your chances, I can give you a link where you might find it or you can find it online. Only do it if your counselor tells you it's fine.
yo that would be great
do u know how to find my uiuc counselor
how many CS+Bioengineering folks are here
I heard from a Bioengineering department info session that they only have 35 students doing CS+Bioengineering in class of 2028
yes, this is somewhat true
9 freshman, 19 sophomores, 9 juniors in fall 2024
but, there are no seniors because the junior class was the inaugural class
so the real number is around 46-56
source: uiuc census
hope this helps!
bro did i js get like no aid at all 💀
did any oos kids get money
whale
haven't touched those gacha games in like a month cause i been living life
but i do have like a top 10% furina i think? prob not
im in-state
uc riverside gave me a bunch of money tho so now the coa are looking comparable 👀
yeah they prolly give more money to oos since coa in the end will be similar to in-state
it already did
feb 28th
coa of my state school, purdue, gt, and uiuc respectively
after 7k from my state school, 10k from purdue and uiuc, and 3k in aid from uiuc
atrocious for a school ranked like 130
ouch 😬
loyola chicago is $19,617 for me if i live off campus, uiuc for me is $42,198, riverside is looking like $55,000-ish
dang
still waiting on decisions or you planning on committing somewhere rn
uiuc is a t30 school
It's T5 for CS 💀
What's ur major?
i'm talking about my state school
applied for compe
how do i check financial grant?
mine just says “no info is avaliable for this aid year”
when will financial aid come for uiuc?
33 to be specific
did u apply early?
ahh fair enough
should be out already if you applied early, not sure about rd
should be in the ui service under financial aid notfication
check all the tabs i forgor
it's goated for vgd, entrepreneurship, and pre-med, but that's about it
so expensive for no reason
all these californians moving in destroying the housing market
im waiting on some ucs and northwestern cuz i applied for funsies with a fee waiver
but im leaning towards uiuc cuz i dont wanna drive to loyola everyday 😞
fair
whats your total scholarships amount from uiuc?
nothing
ouch!
are you sure you're in state?
maybe your county is one of the ones that wants to secede from illinois?
such is the state of the american healthcare system
Beginning in 2020, a number of counties of Illinois have held referendums relating to the separation of Cook County, and more specifically its city of Chicago, from the rest of Illinois. This might be achieved by splitting Chicago and some nearby areas off as a new state, separating themselves from Illinois to form a new state, or separating fro...
heh
not new illinois
im just kidding. but it's really odd how you didnt get anything. maybe it's worth emailing
see, you get it
tbf they probably haven’t released department scholarships yet
i don’t feel as bad paying 42k after seeing davis’s 84k tho 🤠
yeh
Same 💀
Do appeall
For Loyola Chicago I do need to pay 30k a year tho
Same with UMICH
But UIUC and most likely UIC will be like below 5k
After I gave some forms for some waivers
I got full pell grant then nothing
check under the financial planning tab
r u ea
yep
greater idaho type shi
this is why i didn't apply to any ucs
my parents yearn for california cuz all my family lives there, but they’re gonna have me pay for the loans they take out if i become a doctor in 12 years 🌝
oof
12 years oos would put most families into generational debt 😭
debt until the ends of the earth
but don't you become a resident after a year
yes then it would be 1 year oos and 3 years in-state, cuz we would move there permanently
but then med school 🤡
Will that work?
Really struggling between here and another place for cs
For some schools apparently it’s harder to switch from out-of-state to in-state
Even if you move
yes i worry they’re gonna reject my residency status change and tell me to cough up another 80k 😔
my school is a uiuc feeder school anyway so if i go there i’ll have tons of company 🥰
Davis only gives me max Pell Grant, the all of the rest is loan
im fairly certain that you have to have at least two years of residency for in-state tuition at public schools
your family would have to move there and establish residency within the next five months for you to get in-state tuition for next the 26-27 school year
AHHHHH honestly i should just be an illini and save myself the pain
was gies more selective than grainger this year?
Gies.os generally more selective that grainger
Gies is*
Selective programs in order I think: CS + something, CS, business or information sciences, engineering, and then everything else
Actually information sciences is a bit more selective than business
But Gies is always more selective than engineering each year by a small margin.
It should be more or less similar to last year’s
ts pmo icl
real shit no misinformation pls
lol so illinois without most of its relevance and gdp
turning IL into Indiana
pretty much
those counties forget that they're a net drain on state funding, they use more money than they generate
my hot take is that state boundaries are kinda stupid and we should govern by metro areas
this is funny as shit why are they doing that 😭😭😭
don't let facts get in the way of a good story
B1G WIN TODAY RAAAAAH @hardy geyser
ok
average sweat
dude for a second i thought this was football 💀
casual 88 points to 80 points
Illinois fighting illini sounds like they’re fighting themselves 😭
Yes
checks out
oregon wants to do the same thing
the maga counties made a referendum to join idaho
i cant tell if this is a political statement
theres a trend of red counties wanting to separate from blue states is what im trying to say
because barely anyone lives there and the blue counties dominate in politics bc a lot of people live there
there is also a trend of blue states wanting to separate from red states
though the parties switched up around the civil rights movement so the blues are now red and vice versa
yeah, thats the nonpartisan reason pretty much
being mad about not getting a say in things despite paying taxes is... the american way
How do you even get here
Yeah. As someone is the blue. Exo is right. (And I tried to search up the info and only looked at the AI pop up, so sorry was wrong about for majors).
I can help
in the applicant portal
u hit view status on ur app
and go to checklist
On the admitted check list, click on the financial aid part
then theres finaid
Yes
and u have a link to ui integrate self serve
Oh I didn’t submit need based
FAFSA?
You should go do it.
Oh
Just in case
if you didnt do the fafsa you wont be eligible for scholarships or financial aid
You can still do that. Go to eh FAFSA website and do the form with your parents it took me like 30 minutss
Wdym? You can still do it tho?
I won’t get any need based aid and scholarships are decided
I’m guessing
Merit based ones
So no point
Are you in state or oos
Oos
I see. You should still try tho to see if you get a bit and to get a comprehensive plan on how much you need to pay directly to the university
Ik someone but instate who didn't need any need aid got 8k a year of aid
Ik it's not oos but just make sure. You might be one of the lucky ones and get aid
My Sai was like way above the total cost
It's your choice tho.
Also I have in state for ut Austin
Ooh nice
well, if ur not gonna commit to uiuc
I just got the honors program for gies so I was considering it
Yes
Wait exo?
If there sj a scholarships thin and it says from your school. Is that my hs or uiuc
If there is a scholarship thing of 9.9k a year*
And is it already put into financial aid part or no?
from uiuc probably!
take a look at ur financial aid notification
when did u get this
am i cooked if i didnt get tis
it's just for james scholar which is some honor program
theres also gies honors but i attended the info session and it didnt seem all that good
u can also apply during ur first year
Compared to just normal gies
Will they send out James Scholar invite to incoming class
yes
do you know mostly when
i've not heard about it from grainger yet
me too
All scholarships should be notified to you by April 1 at uiuc
are u oos?
ah no, ur not
15k a year is not that bad
but im guessing since ur -1500 SAI, you're a questbridge kid, it would be a lot better to go on the questbridge route if you got matched
the counties that want to leave Illinois would be broke if they left
chicago funds everything downstate of them
real
do you know how questbridge works lmao
kind of, but please explain
you have to go through several cycles of an application to be matched
if you get matched its binding
not every low income student is questbridge
and uiuc is not a questbridge school
yes
theres some pilot programs for qb
where u can get nonbinding offers
believe it's this year
well yeah, im not saying u go to uiuc
i apologize if it seemed that way
i just mean to go to whatever college is the most affordable
(from my understanding, if questbridge extends the pilot, that costs will be generally covered)
what does questbridge have to do with that tho lol
im not understanding why questbridge was even brought up though
thats the best program i can think of to have college paid for completely
but thats not how questbridge works lol
the deadline was months ago
and being low income doesnt mean youre a questbridge student
please make sure you know what youre talking about before you try to offer advice to people
i apologize! it was a poor presumption, i wasnt trying to act in bad faith, and yeah not all low income students apply through questbridge
but if you did apply to questbridge or another program and you did get some kind of match or offer, it's a better route to go down versus a school thats inaffordable
or otherwise if another school offers better value then same for that
yeahh QB is like a 33% rate too
QB boosts your chances much higher
no getting into QB is 33% acceptance rate
but not all QB admits match i believe unfortunately
is there any way intls can get the acceptance package stuff from uiuc
I am getting stuff from UCR
nah it’s super annoying
wait
like
the actual stickers
or financial aid
I am not talking about fin aid
sorry I was talking about merch and stuff
the acceptance package
🥲
i believe they may not ship internationally
nobody ships intl
I got an email from UCR that I can opt to get physical admission packet via courier
fr??
I got rejected from davis so idk
but this
so idk about other UCs
print out your acceptance letters and frame em
yeah, though i believe the acceptance rate (from qb in general) is higher than applying regularly
especially considering that qbers usually wouldnt have the same level of access to ECs and other things as a rich bay area kid
anyways, illinois aid is pretty bad imo for low income students
they have like illinois promise (which is full ride) but the income threshold is really really low
and illinois commitment (the full tuition) has higher income thresholds
Your total family income must be $82,500 or less (effective fall 2025).
Your total family assets must be $75,000 or less (effective fall 2025).
but the problem w/ that is that it's only tuition and ur still on the hook for housing and books and stuff
from the friends i've spoken to so far the rough lower bound of CoA is like around the neighborhood of 15k/year ish
(this is only my opinion, and should not be interpreted as factual statements or advice. i am not an expert on the subject of uiuc financial aid.)
why does the uiuc rd thread (reddit) this year hv such less interactions
compared to previous years
nobody wants to go here i killed the vibes
All of the threads do
The Davis thread has like 5 comments
And then some random person made one day of that got closer to 100
I think part of it is the Reddit mods haven’t been nearly as strict as previous years with removing offshoot threads so it’s not as centralized
And part of it may be that people are migrating to our discord threads bc the format works better
if uiuc is my top choice atm but I still have some decisions yet to come, is there any benefit to paying the deposit now itself housing wise?
Depends
If you want a good housing like at a private dorm hall might be a good idea to deposit now
Is housing not FCFS? What if a ton of people submit the deposit right now, and they all fill up an entire hall? Is that not how the "priority" housing works
Is there a uiuc discord
apparently
and this is apparently
the earlier you submit your housing agreement the more likely youll get it (heard from uiuc reddit)
link?
even though they say it doesnt matter when you submit it
note for PCH it is first come first serve
is pch or dorms usually preferred
by the general student population
this is only for pch
but i dont know anything about pch vs dorms other than that
Private housing like Newman is filling up
They’re different from public
Public is like a lottery system
It is FCFS for private housing
But public is different
Oh okay thanks
Location is much better plus there’s no reason not to
Some dorms are also better than others
Yeah you can only eat at your specific private dining hall if you choose pch
diy acceptance package LMAO
Finally enrolled and might choose a dorm today or tomorrow
got alternative?
purdue is also pretty good (im cheme) and like 30k cheaper
but hopefully i bag one of my rds
good point
are scholarships out yet?
same
They should be all be out by April 1!
does UIUC send acceptance packages
I think
bruh what should i do about wiatlist
do i just wai yt
do i have to ifll anything out
write LOCI if ure interested in the uni
they don't take LOCI: https://www.admissions.illinois.edu/faq/wait-list
Wait-List FAQ, Undergraduate Admissions, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
wait where does it aay
hello ilinilis
hello from purdue
hows purdue
yes
r they nice
theyre like a letter a pamphlet and some stickers
so like ur usual acceptance package
I’m talking about uiuc
I did cs + Econ
So prob whichever school that is in
Idk
I can check the acceptance letter rq
Cs +x is always in the other one
does uiuc give decent aid
yes if ur poor
my friend’s sister and my friend’s brother are basically going for free
UIUC RD results!
33
81
3
rejected!!!
❌
i randomly got emailed
for a grainger scholarship
dunno if yall got this
(i’m oos)
4k/yr
congrats!
r u ea or rd
HELL YEAHHHH CONGRATS!!!
what major
FYE
Hellll yeahhhh congrats
Purdue is better anyways
me 2
same
outright rejected
im finna deny ts rn
whaddup other UIUC -> Purdue pipeline student
wdym
im assuming you got in purdue?
nah i got deferred ea there as well
tragic
plus even if i get in im not gonna go
you got better offer?
the only oos im planning to go to is gtech if i get it
A&M for engineering, its instate for me
GT would be nice
Would you go if high scholarship?
i used to be a die-hard ut fan until they didnt give me my major and put me in liberal arts 😭
im gonna go to a&m either way if i dont get gtech
oh hn 💔
i dont qualify for financial aid and i dont think a&m will give merit scholarships if ur not mational merit semi+
which pisses me off bc i missed the semifinalist cutoff by like one correct answer, and my friend who was a semifinalist got 40k for a&m
v late to this but they actually send stickers to put on the i on your keyboard lol
oh tuff
would def be cool but probably a copyright infringement lol
thats if u get caught
chat uiuc or uva
major dependent
either engineering physics or meche, i can't remember which
@quick plume ^
alr bet
theyre on similar levels?
bet i'll let him know
UIUC Better and UVA is WAYY TOO EXPENSIVE BRO
holy shit I DID NOT KNOW UVA WAS that expensive
i thought UIUC was expensive
i’m also committed to UIUC so slight bias @woeful trail
engineering but with a very heavy lean towards biz/econ
Yeah I saw this
t&m isnt guaranteed
Guys
I got engineering undeclared
How does transferring to electrical engineering work?
Transferring is guaranteed as long as you have a certain gpa, and for EE it’s pretty light to transfer after the first year if you have a 3.5 or something after the first year at UIUC
Oh look it’s you!
We’re running a tournament with prizes in #🏀-march-madness with our bracket groups pinned you should totally join and not put Creighton
Probably even less
engineering undeclared can get most majors with a 3.5
if not all
ee might be like a 3.0
if you’re exploratory though it’s nearly impossible
This is not true at all.
EE needs a 3.5 if not more.
EE is a competitive major to transfer into
I wouldn't say EE is light to transfer into.
You need high grades in hard classes to transfer in.
I don't know all of the details but I think you apply to switch after you've met all of the course reqs.
As I've said above you'll need a high GPA to get in.
from engineering undeclared?
from exploratory studies sure
Engineering undeclared to EE is easy though? Because you’re given 3 options and you’re guaranteed into one so say you put down AE, ME, and EE
You’re more than likely to get into EE they have to let you in
Transferring from a random major to EE is rly hard though
But engineering undeclared you’re already in the Grainger college of engineering
Yes
If you want to transfer to any engineering major you need to transfer to engineering undeclared first.
Depends on how easy getting a 3.5 is to someone.
Most of the spots in the major are filled so you need a high GPA to get in, if that makes sense.
Fotor is correct ^
Application Contents
Specify three majors of interest, in ranked preference. Only two majors can be competitive majors. Competitive majors are: Aerospace Engineering, Bioengineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Neural Engineering. Indicating more than two competitive majors will have a negative impact on an application.
While we try to place each student in their first-choice major of interest, it is not guaranteed. Placement depends on the holistic review of a student’s application to their majors of interest and capacity in individual majors. Major capacity may change from semester to semester. Students placed into their third-choice majors will be encouraged to speak to an EU advisor to discuss their options.
EE is considered competitive selection for EU based on the website
and it looks like even for EU first-choice major is not guaranteed transfer
prob engineering majors that is not specified under competitive is guaranteed
Yeaaa EU is lowkey a new program, grainger had a thing called pre-engineering back in the day
and it was even more pain to transfer to engineering pre-covid i heard
coz if you didnt get into a major no major ☠️
Ye that’s why out of the 3 u select in EU , at least one has to be a less competitive or non-competitive major
But transferring to EE isn’t like extremely hard as I’ve heard
Can you Guys if yall r Davis or UIUC alumni help me with my comparisom between the two
It’s in the college x v. College y question forum on here
im so cooked for this appeal
I've heard any engineering transfer is insanely hard
my friend managed to change from CompE WL -> EE accept thru an appt with the AOs
To be fair I got straight rejected so
Idk why I’m even appealing atp
Deferred to rejected to rejected again probably
true
Was going to appeal for engineering mechanics
Will probably still submit but I know it’s a rejection
My majors while applying were aerospace and electrical(idk why I put EE as second major)
Hopefully
does anyone know if/when regular decision scholarships come out
in got my financial aid offer lke 2 days after the decision came out but havent received any info on merit scholarships yet
applied EA Cs+econ deferred->accepted instate
they said it will be out by first week of april
did anyone else have their net cost go up after finaid package?
my shit just went up like 600usd or smtn
map grant got reduced ig
before and after, if you're in the same boat as me
maybe contact admissions office
IT CAME OUT ?!
map grant got reduced this year apparently so it is what it is
https://osfa.illinois.edu/types-of-aid/grants/monetary-award-program-map-grant/
says the max this year is $8064
Do they email you if you got any scholarship
Yes I got emailed about merit scholarship and honors college
does this include fafsa aid
It said total financial aid is 5,500
But no grants
Does that mean the 5.5k is all just loans
yes
$5,500 is the amount of a federal direct unsubsidized loan
yeah
i’m sorry bro 😭✌️

yep ive been hit with the same thing for unc, austin
and all the others
💀
💔
yeah, what else could i do atp
for what major again?
see like
here’s the thing
for you it’ll matter
like in cs
the university names help a lot
i have no idea if it’ll help me
oh 😭
i mean if you go to any of those schools you’ll be fine
cuz you dont actually finally pick until junior year
at unc?
yeah makes sense
i got in through informatics
as of now i’m still waiting for purdue but
besides that i’m deciding between uiuc and tennessee
informatics??
Yeah
So should i choose uwmadison where i got ee directly or uiuc
i have the same exact choices too lmao
admitted ee uw madison but 2nd choice uiuc
You’re not going to be able to swap majors very easily at UIUC
If you’re very content with your second major then UIUC but if not go to UW Madison
Lmfao im so confused on what to choose
Both r pretty good schools but my best friend is going to uiuc
💀
imo, I would go to madison, it's not worth risking it
madison has a good EE program so it's not much of a downgrade
same bro
What’s your second major?
nuclear eng
Oh that is pretty far removed from electrical engineering
Alright cool thats what ill kost likely do
I chose engineering undeclared as my second major
another point I would like to make is that transferring into EE is going to be very stressful
I had friends in engineering undeclared who had to constantly worry about every assignment and exam while everyone else was chilling
😭
Yeah for both of you I’d say UW madison
Unless you’re still waiting on other schools too
Nah not rlly
Northeastern too expensiven
💀
i got purdue gtech left for eng programs but those r pretty tuff
U might get purdue if u got into uwmadison idk im jus guessing
Id pick either one of those over UW Madison and second choice uiuc personally
did u apply to purdue?
To be fair I’m still waiting on Purdue deferral too
I did but i was rejected im pretty sure i did something stupid in the essay
Or maybe they just didnt fw me
Purdue over uwmadison?
Just personal bias
I know ppl who go to Purdue and stuff
Plus I’m aerospace and purdues really high up there so
is nuclear to ee that hard at uiuc?
The thing is
I dont understand how we will get our desired major at the end of the second yr
Like wouldnt ppl alr be doin that major for 1.5 yrs before us
Every major switch is that difficult
One of my cousins switched for industrial to compE
He maintained 3.8
You need a very high GPA and great ecs
nuclear to ee is doable but nuclear is cool : )
they said it was hard
i asked the npre advisor
at illinois
i’m also admitted to nuclear
like just keept above a 3.5 gpa and you’d be good
uiuc is notoriously famous for being super hard to transfer
but that’s a lot easier said than done
like even low demand majors
in engineering
like civil
for current engineering majors to switch to them
you have to do super well and show a clear interest and shit
damn
i mean i just
like if you know for sure you wanna do EE and you aren’t in EE maybe go somewhere else
unless you’re totally confident you could get the gpa requirement and stuff
you guys can also check this website, shows GPA disparity of each UIUC classes
Overall and technical GPA
Grainger Engineering generally expects applicants to have a minimum of 3.00 overall GPA (A=4.00), but admission to specific majors may be significantly more competitive during any given admission cycle. In the fall of 2022, the average transfer GPA for admitted students was 3.86, with the middle 50% of GPAs ranging from 3.78–4.00.
Applicants should demonstrate mastery of subject matter by earning a B or better (3.00–4.00) in all prerequisite courses.
This is for transfer admissions tho but I believe that transferring majors will be something similar. But if you are within the same college (grainger) should be a bit more lenient.
https://grainger.illinois.edu/admissions/undergraduate/transfer#:~:text=Overall and technical GPA,4.00)%20in%20all%20prerequisite%20courses.
Adding on to what Moon said, if you are willing to sacrifice your freshman year or some of your sophomore year to build up on your GPA for transfer, you may attend UIUC, else if your goal is to enjoy freshman year then better to look for other university
Ironically I am constantly worrying about my GPA coz i am applying for grad school 🤣🤣 this is my last year 🤣🤣
do you happen to know about transferring to a low demand engineering major
i’m already in nuclear but i wanna switch to civil
hmmm I cannot say much for civil coz I do not have many civil friends
but in general if your current major is closely related to the major you wish to transfer it makes it easier
for instance
Case 1 (Very Hard):
Current Major: History
Transfer Major: Computer Engineering
Case 2 (Hard):
Current Major: Systems Engineering
Transfer Major: Computer Engineering
Case 3(Medium):
Current Major: Mechanical Engineering
Transfer Major: Computer Engineering
Case 4(Easy):
Current Major: Electrical Engineering
Transfer Major: Computer Engineering
Similar goes to other competitive majors like CS + X, transferring from other majors will be hard but if you are in one of the CS + X, switching to other CS + X is easy etc
Notice the pattern above
if you are within the same college it makes the transfer easier
if you are within the same department it makes the transfer easier as well
and if you are within the same program of competitiveness like Meche to Compe , it also makes transferring slightly easier
It’d probably a medium then
i know it’s hard to quantify, but what would the gpa requirement be for “medium”
Or anything else that isn’t just the classes
when does UIUC's merit scholarship for intl come out?
is uiuc worth it for psych?
Really depends on what your other options are
I would say 3.5 ~ 3.7 would be good, to be absolutely safe, I would get above 3.7 or even 3.8
That seems a little high but makes sense
bro im cooked i got systems engineering 💀
i dont wanna be doing that
i want CE
should i even try for UIUC or like give up on it?
idk what you would consider other good options
i have Penn state and Umass as my top options rn
same
thats exactly
whaat i told my parents
their arguement is that if i do amazing and work hard then transfer is basically guranteed
💀
WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO SAY TO THAT
bro same i applied matsci because i wanted to do it but now my parents are like oh u should do electrical and shit
and like "oh u can get good gpa and transfer"
and legit based off reddit and uiuc's own website i think change of major, esp to ee ce or whatever else is nearly impossibl
I would choose UIUC if you guys are absolutely sure that you will grind af and take whatever to get into the major u guys want
but transfer isn't guranteed even if we do grind
and give up all the fun during your first year
first year is like
the basis of ur social life in uni no?
you see after you transfer successfully to computer engineering you won't have life .... idk if it is my work ethic but I come home at like 5am everyday after studying 😭
I do a lot of extra curricular tho
i do ML research and course staff for two classes
You should join Compe/ECE/CS related clubs
What major did you get in for those
CE and CS respectively
I know it is very early to ask, but what fields of computing are you mostly interested
idk, i liked quantum computing and i included that in my essays and ECs so thats a highly regarded field for me
Yeaaaa I would choose university that you got in with CE. It will provide you with strong physics foundation. I would also take a physics minor with your degree as well.
You can also explore various subjects under CE such as parallel programming (NVIDIA CUDA), operating systems (RISC-V, QEMU, C), FPGA (System Verilog), and machine learning (Tensorflow, PyTorch)
There is a major called CS + Phys in uiuc but it is closed for transfer
My grant amount and scholarships changed, they all increased by my aid is till the same with 5k a year I have to only pay but my federal grant is gone rn 😭
oh no
wtf!!
they reduced the MAP grant this year btw
if thats what ur wondering
but is ur federal grant entirely gone? @floral gull
Yeah
My Map grant is the same tho
But they increase my university tuition grant for 1k
And it's still the same aid?
Well the university tuition grant is merit-based I think
But the scholarships on the merit award section increased as much there was as the federal pell grant wass
my like aid went up then back down
My aid is not changing but I guess my merit scholarships have increased the same amount as the federal pell grant possibly
yeah think so
Have you committed to uiuc?
nah, just waiting for my other schools haha
maybe one of the ivies will be merciful
but if not i'll go to this amazing school
yep
i think as long as u like
enroll by the priority deadline which is may 8 i think
ur in the same spot
I am actually going to the UIUC the first time in my life to see campus the first time
:D
I heard from my old wrestling friend at UIUC that the may 8 deadline is not great
Bc the amount of people want to enroll increase per year
And they don't much earlier and it goes over the amount of students they expect
yep
well if u do it by may 8 it's random
thats what they say
at least for on campus
And the people who didn't get dorms and needed apartments are those who did the contract at the end of April and beginning of may
But I am sure you will do it before the school's decisions come out somewhere mid-April right?
So it before bc the*
And I am sure you will get into the ivy
You got this!
yeah,i should know by apr 1 where im going
No I am done I only applied to 5 schools
In early action
I couldn't afford a t20 school so I am going to uiuc
It's UMICH 😢
mhm
But you got this!
Oh I also couldn’t afford umich lol
😭😭😭😭😭
Also I was finally on UIUC for the first time
Just today!!
And I will be here until Tuesday!!
And then I go back up north around Chicago
I’ll visit after this week probably
Just waiting on ridiculously selective RDs that I have no chance at
For me it's very weird bc it's more south and all
You got this!!!
I am used to cities but here scares me
But at least campus at UIUC is much peaceful
And good
yeah chicago is a little scary
No for me it's the opposite
Around campus it's scary bc it's different
Like I am not used to spacious wierd suburb that have very small houses and trailers
I go to a suburb around Chicago where there are like 3 floor houses and a big backyard like mansion size some for them
Some w pools
But here is much different..
But on campus is very good, better than the university in Chicago tho
Universities**
lol
LOL real
😭
its so joever
💀
💔
decomitting fro illinois after that atrocity
9 points is not that bad for march madness lol
especially since they were a significantly lower seed
it was worse before
they were supposed to win
kentucky isnt good
yeah they never led at one point
if i went there they have to have the potential of a 16 to 1 upset
what
Hey I’m also from a Chicago suburb!
Are you going to admitted illinifest?
i gotta choose between uiuc, ut austin and pennstate+honors
Major?
physics
Also are you in state for any of them
nope, OOS for all
Ohh then it’s tough
Idk how good Penn state physics is but Isn’t the honors very selective?
yup, 300 students a year
somehow, I managed to get in so it's making the decision hard
All are very great options, if Penn states honors program gives you a bunch of benefits that might be the play tho
indeed, a lot of perks over there
physics here is really good
Guys
Im boutta pay the enrolment fee for uiuc for engineering undeclared
Any tips for getting into electrical engineering later on?
study well
nice
I have a few points of advice I would like to make:
- Show up to class. It's super easy to get into the habit of missing class in college.
- Start your homework the day it's assigned. I had to learn the hard way that starting assignments right before the due date wasn't going to fly in college like it did in high school.
- Go to office hours. If you start your assignments early you can go to office hours when they are less crowded.
- Read the textbook and lecture notes before the lecture. You will understand lectures better and get more out of them.
yes
idk
the environment
as someone who lives in a big city, it's nice to spend some time in a small college town
tips on uiuc waitlist or appealing to a new major?
its nice sometimes
285?
its easy u can catch up ig
what's the chance i get off the waitlist (cs + physics)?
not likely
anything CS from UIUC is in high demand
does the +x part help in any way? in getting off the waitlist
like even a few fractions of a %
no idea
pretty low
Getting off the waitlist is impossible here
Ye
how hard is is to transfer majors at uiuc
physics is at grainger so its still pretty competitive
its really contigent on the yield rate for that major this year
ikr, im split between so many options rn
Hi All. Anyone who is doing CS in UIUC : can you please offer your opinion on pros and cons of choosing UIUC CS vs UCLA CS. I have to make this decision in a few days. I am OOS for both.
UIUC
it's like 15 grand cheaper and is T10 for CS
campus is pretty good too
Classes are somewhat smaller than UCLA
And is it relatively easier here to get into big tech after graduation?
I’d make a post in #954425230896545792
A bunch of UIUC cs grads get into big tech
does uiuc accept a letter of continued interest for waitlisted students
^^^
also curious about this
the nicest you'd get is in PCH but that's usually more expensive and you eat in separate dining halls
None of the dorms are like phenomenal or anything, but ISR is pretty well-regarded amongst university housing (especially if you're in STEM)
all of the dorms with AC are fine. avoid dorms with no AC at all costs
PAR is pretty decent too
PAR/ISR have individual use bathrooms so there's no stalls, instead there's a few full bathrooms on each floor
if you can get a room in wassaja/nugent do that but it's mostly upperclassmen
ISR prolly just the best because it's so close to the engineering buildings. par is very uh inconvenient
nahh it's not like that bad
As long as you're fine going on the buses
im in par
same 😭
oh yeah that's def true
+theyre always overcrowded
but it's hard to get into ISR given how quickly the rooms get filled up
yea
nvm, i see this now
any others that are good for stem?
like a second best
for all of the other ones, you'll prob want to take the bus
busey evans and the ikenberry dorms are closer than par/far though
ur basically guaranteed isr with james scholar/chancellors scholar
i’m gonna apply to llcs in isr
to tru to get it
if it doesn’t work out then i’ll find something else but
even for freshman year engineering classes? or
like are those still housed by the engineering stuff
Oh nvm
yeah it’s also close to like the main quad too, esp the chem building
so if u dont have ap credit for that, super nice
the worst lecture hall on campus is closer to ike and i have my diffeq there but everything else basically is closer to isr
gotcha
I got a merit scholarship from uiuc but I haven't gotten an email on what it is and stuff like that
😭
where can u view it?
On your college financing plan there is a merit scholarship section
Oh u committed?
There I was given 10k a year but it's going up a few 100 dollars now and then
Yeah I only have to pay 5k a year in total with needs
And yes I am committed
ah makes sense
so unless i commit i won't be able to view any scholarships?
its either that or i didn't get any
No I was able to still see them before I enrolled?
It just went up a few times for some reason
But like a few 50-100 bucks a week for some reason for me
Bc before I enrolled it was like closer to ok but then it jumped now a bit more closer to 11k
9k**
Idk why
I ain't complaining
ok question, where is this
whats the weeders classes like
Is the weather too cold from October to March? How do students manage?
Proper clothing goes a long way
I live more in the north and in the Midwest. Maybe get a rain jacket a coat when it's cold and then a much warmer coat when it's colder.
That's my recommendation as a first gen American in the Midwest where my parents were born in a different and much warmer country.
On your admitted checklist there is space under financial aid where it's says UI self integrative or something and click on that and log in with your net ID and password (if you have committed) or it will take you straight there (if you haven't yet) and go to either financial aid notification or scroll all the way to the right and click on college financial planning on the same row where financial aid notification header is.
I hope it helps!
nop
wait so if i didn't apply for finaid i won't receive any merit scholarship??
hey is it possible to guarantee being on the same floor as someone else? i have a friend from hs of the opposite gender that i obviously don't want to room with but want to be on the same floor/dorm
is there any way to ensure we both get the same room selection time?
(other than being in the same llc, which in itself is not a guarantee given that most llcs have multiple floors)
where can i find th
could you send a link? thanks!
i think weeder culture here is less bad than other places by a lot
that being said calc 2 is just a Hard class
i had credit but i hear bad things
ive testd out tho
honestly the weeders create a rly strong sense of community
imo the intro phys sequence here is kinda overhated
is getting the specialized curriculum just a matter of choosing your classes to fit the requirement
How can you comment that you have committed on the committed channel?
I think u have to be verified or something
Wdym by specialized curriculum?
is anyone here in info sci? i saw many reddit posts complaining abt the program but they seemed to be talking about is+ds and not ux design so im trying to get more opinions on the ux design concentration
Theres a specialized curriculum in chemistry for getting a BS
ahh I wouldn't know anything about chemistry
Oh ok
wish you the best of luck 🙏
How many students are enrolled in CS undergrad every year?
The website literally says 2-4 weeks 😭😭
Just a quick question had your portal updated at all after submitting your appeal
Or does it still say denied
it sayus wailist
That was your original decision right
yea
good luck to yall! manifesting to see you on campus this fall
wsg people
ive been getting for both actually
and all the grainger ones say agricultural and biological engineering even though that obviously isnt what i applied or got in for
cheme is technically cals but also somewhat affiliated with granger
ok so its not out of the ordinary to have received mails from both right
chat am i cooked for good housing if i havent committed yet
i heard it was lottery based but i'm not sure
PCH is first come first serve
and i've been hearing pch is better
oh private certified housing
idk lol if u do want pch i guess maybe you can try getting on the list or something
but i'm just gonna go with dorms
residence halls
and hope i dont get a terrible one
i did get james scholar so i think that boosts my chances of getting isr?
Yes it is lottery based
Depends on the pch
Some are pretty good some are mid or on the same level as like the dorms
can you get rescinded just based on pre-final grades?
my board results only come out in august
If you fail your classes mb
@rancid quarry i didn’t see ur comment earlier but if you got INFO at UT Austin, just take UIUC
if ur trying to do anything technical or SW/quant related, informatics is dogshit at UT
I’m giving up my cs & math admission at uiuc for a chance at premed at Unc chapel hill
I feel like I’m in the wrong direction and ch will give me a chance to turn things around
