would they give me aid on the basis of just the css profile?
!bgastro
You must have given what they need
yes, they can as long as it contains enough information
you're restoring my hope bruh
this is a dangerous game
They didn't even view my docs after November big green ☠️☠️☠️
They still date back to November
Once they've been downloaded they don't need to download again
It's all in slate at that point
Hope do
So*
i think Dartmouth fixed most of the looop holes people use this cycle
I mean idk if they reject you would they go and request specifics for financial aid
they changed their entire portal structure
yeah thats what im thinking asw
Idk do colleges care that much to hide the decision
Different people
Yes
i applied last year and i can definetely say it's much different
but darty is the only one that offered me an interview as an intl
I think they either didn't need them or rejected
But like would they go out of their way requesting information they don't need just so that you don't get an idea
Idk if they care that much
The people doing that don't know about your application
ik someone who got an idoc request and was still rejected lol
It seems more efficient to me that they would communicate
To save on work
bro if i get in
Idk except if they care that much about not giving you an idea about your decision
oijsaofjasiofjasoifjas
But if that's that much of a priority
im crashing out
Yeah tbh idk how it exactly works
of course they do, why would they just want people's decisions leaking out
I mean maybe they do stuff that implies a higher probability of acceptance
Or rejection
i couldn't access my Harvey Mudd decision and i emailed the admissions office, they said it's strictly confidential within my portal
yeah, in some cases
I mean you're either accepted or rejected why do they care when you find out
!biggreen

Locked in
Lock in everyone
I’m opening Dartmouth first lol
I really liked my app overall and my interview went well
I’m really hoping it works out
I have Harvard last
I’m doing most likely to least likely lol
no do harvard first
So I won’t be as disappointed
reverse is better
I need to work my way up
cause like if it's all rejecetions and you get to harvard you know you're coocked
No way I can open Harvard first
spin a wheel
but if the last one is a good one then you're locked in
I'm going from least I care about -> most I care about
Kinda same
or, you get all rejections and then you have hope for your last one which turns out to be a rejection as well
yeah that's fine
dartmouth
cause at least if the last one is a high % one then you still have hope
Guys i ghosted my interviewer am i cooked?
also I get accpeted
no rejection
for sure
!ivyday

Wherever my parents force me to
^, just wondering
like am i locked out of engineering at dartmouth cause that was lowkey a huge factor of why i applied
DARTMOUTH I LOVE YOU THANK YOU LETS GO BIG GREEN AAAAA 🌳 🌳 🌳 🌳 🌳
Got in!!!
congrats!
Congrats!!!!!!!!
No, every student is in A&S
you can declare any major after your 5th term
thank you, was wondering how that system works 👍
Happy to answer questions
Did you guys get an email telling you about the status update
LETS GO BIG GREEEEEENNNN
I DID NOT AT ALL EXPECT THAT
I'm checking mine tmrw 😭
yeah i got mine at 4:09 but the portal was updated at like 3:58
What’s admit rate off of waitlist tho I bet it’s very low😭
I really hope I get in
I have high hopes for Dartmouth and brown idk why I just felt like my essays were really good
Most years.... 0
Also if the peer recommendation means anything, Im confident in my friend
Dont forget to fill out the poll
Very very low
Don’t bank on it
I called a few times last yr
waitlist
man
🧍♀️
is it a
soft rejection
how many does dartmouth take off the waitlist
Often... 0
😝😝
In the car will check in couple hours
Can I ask ur stats
cant wait to see everyone at dimensions
waitlisted!
are appeals a thing for dartmouth?
I lowk thought I was getting in after my 3 hour interview
that was not the only factor, I just rather not write everything that I thought which contributed to that conclusion
Tons of super qualified people got frustrating news today
sometimes you have to take an L with grace
Haven’t opened my decision yet
But preparing to change my pfp to Dartmouth with the x crossed out and making plans to burn my rejection letter
I’m sorry, I never meant to sound arrogant or rude. In retrospect it’s not the end of the world
thank you!!
haha frr
AAAA CONGRATS
thx for being the only ivy to show me love 💘
is there a ‘29 discord?
does dartouth have an undergrad eng college? they say study w/ their "Faculty of Arts and Sciences" so im a lil confused if dartmouth works differently or if its smth else
I had the same question, here's the answer
@drifting patio
ahh makes sense thx
all undergrads are A&S
there is only one UG degree
rejected darty
does Dartmouth offer to pay for your flight to admitted students day if you qualify for it?
NOOOO
i feel blindsided by this i thought i did so ass in my interview
at one point my interview said "yeah that's not concieted at all" when it was on one of those describe yourself questions and I thought he was being saracstic
.
rejected but into yale and cornell!
congrats!
I believe so, write and ask I guess
Oh what thats so cool
@undone crest I am seriously considering Dartmouth as the school I'll be committing to, but I'm very much a city person who is (fortunately) used to comfy living spaces. Dartmouth is the only one of the schools I'm considering that isn't near/in a major population center, so that brings up a bunch of questions.
So:
- how is Dartmouth to international students? will I be able to meet up with those of my same nationality?
- do you have any experience/advice for that transition?
- how is the accommodation? are the negative reviews online just fear-mongering? I also read that there are renovations currently going on but I couldn't find much about it (so, although you graduated a while back, might you know something about it?)
thanks in advance
Yeah the amount of negativity surprised me and killed my vibe a teenie tiny bit
Realistically I know not to trust it but a lot of people talk about toxic frat culture and such and ive seen complaints from dartmouth students about not having anything to do if you’re not intro frats
what nationality are you?
I guess what is it taht you are worried you won't have not living in a city?
The dorms vary a lot. The new ones are very nice, there are a few (mostly for first years) that are def not the best, but they feed into the best upperclass dorms I think
from where? the subreddit?
like yes, greek life is big, there is plenty outside of it
R/Dartmouth
and you may change your mind on it. I came in not really interest (as did my wife) and it was a big part of our experience
R/A2C too but i pay less attention to that
there are one or two poeple there who literally only post negative things about Dartmouth (like at all on reddit), and dismiss anyone who says that their experience wasn't terrible
I saw a post that dartmouth is like a “bubble” and people there are very similar. Honestly this seems like both a good and bad thing but do you agree that its like that?
Indonesian
The hustle and the bustle? Malls? I don't know how to qualify it, though. I just know it'll be different. Maybe I should rephrase the question: how would moving to Dartmouth impact my lifestyle and how can I deal with it?
What do you mean by "feed into"?
I doubt there aer many indonesian students
let me look
Yeah, there's on average .8 enrolled indonessians
I say feed into, because Dartmouth has residental hosues, which are tied to specific dorms
I don't know enough about your lifestyle to say how it would change, but everyone's lifestyle changes, nobody has lived at college before
Do people there often go down to the city or is it just way too far?
(this is a serious question) As a chronically skinny guy, I've heard it's very sports-centric. Is that going to affect how I'm perceived/how I enjoy interacting with others?
I'm not sure what skinny has to do with that?
Welp i love the outdoors but dont think i could handle 4 years away from living in a city.
Time to strategically plan study abroad and city internships in between my dartmouth years
As in I'm not very athletic lol
But yeah, I would say overall it is a petty active campus
I'm definitely active, just not considered "athletic"; I play squash and volleyball
But I'm definitely not a commit or varsity athlete
certainly better than me LMAO... I think you will be fine
Absolutely, their courts are beautiful 😭
I played a ton of intramural squash
oh awesome!
or like with guys in my fraternity
yeah volleyball's going to be the same for me
I think there is men's club vball
but I imagine it is pretty g ood, since there is no varsity
Oh that's nice
How is their jazz band? I'm trying to look up recordings but a lot of them are from pre-2015
There are a few I think? But very good
open to non-music majors
I had two friends first year who played in Barbary Coast
Do you know what the debate team is like there
Honestly I love the fact that they have two different ones for parliamentary and policy but idk how it plays out joining them
I'm so excited to use the maker space in the eng building
free materials goes incredibly hard
okay thank you so much! I'll do some more research, but rest assured the Big Green will occupy my mind quite a lot the next few days :)
See you next year, hopefully!
wait whattt.. i hadn’t even considered that would be a possibility. Is it only for like super demonstrated financial need students or what? Cause i’m by no means a negative SAI but a free flights a free flight
mm
guys what if instead of dartmouth it was called fartmouth
Acceptance rescinded immediately
I wish
If they give me aid to go then ill go
I didn't get ot do Dimensions
I cant afford it otherwise
Is it that awesome
all of the hotels in town are booked i think im gonna stay in lebanon or sumn
I dunno, at the time Ed applicants weren't invited
Don't you stay on campus?
But yeah, there are chain hotels in Leb
the way i was seeing it it just said that you have to show up at 8:00am or whatever and it just goes from there
i didn’t see anything about them providing housing
👍👍
is there a dartmouth discord server or sumn? I want to find out a little more about what it’s like there
Happy to answer anything obviously
anything meaningful tips for LOCI? Dartmouth is my first choice
Nothing unique
how long should it be? like word count/page length?
also this is just more to confirm: i should NOT mail my LOCI? my friend said i should differentiate and handwrite a LOCI but you think that would be too risky?
honestly thinking about both but im unsure - its a risk of course but i feel like it might be worth trying
sounds good thank you
i know the dartmouth waitlist is slim to none but might as well and hope im like the lucky 29 from last year
did ppl get the acceptance email yet?
Ive gotten a few emails in the last day but I’m an ed admit
good to know lol, any RD admits got emails in the last day?
no, just the status update one
Rd admit
wait actually no i’m stupid
i got a congrats email and an itinerary of admitted students event things this week
Realistically whats my chance of getting rescinded?
If i ended up dropping a course i said i would be taking online in my second semester, would i be at risk?
Also fax ive been looking
Maybe but probably not
let me dm it to you rq
Me as well pls
THANK YOU
me too please 🙏
just sent to you
Anyone going to Dimensions?
Nice
me tooo pls
rly? why tho
Princeton’s didn’t really seem that engaging or fun
And it’s barely a day
Dartmouth’s dimension is like 2-3
Go to dimensions!
u considering dartmouth tho? ur user nick js has hypm
Are you set on Dartmouth already?
I mean they gave me Gerstner’s scholar which only 4 people receive, so I’m really curious on what this is abt
Basically it provides grants for you to pursue things during off terms
Just sent it
i shouldve ed-ed here
Hi all! Congratulations on anyone who got exciting news. I’m a Dartmouth ‘23 happy to help big dawg answer questions about dart. Please feel free to to ping me with any questions here!!
Hi! Do you have anything to add to Dr. biggreen regarding my questions here?
I've been blessed by wonderful acceptances, God willed it, but I do want to look beyond the perhaps shallow prestige ladder before I make my decision
-
Depends on your nationality and the makeup of the classes. My time there, there was a growing community of Turkish and Ukranian students, for example. They all found each other! There are also clubs and spaces around nationalities that could help
(I see now Indonesian. +1 to BG but I already typed the above lol) -
Unfortunately no, I am not an international student ;_;
-
Accommodations are going to be ran through college dorms like in most American schools. Some of the buildings are going to be nicer than others, and it’s based on luck and (partially) seniority. You can escape mid housing like I did and live off campus, or try and get into some specialty housing based on interests (Living Learning Community) that is often nicer than the dorms.
The bigger housing downside imo: There is a current housing shortage because they’ve accepted hella students, and they’re trying to solve that by forcing students to stay on campus in the winter and take off fall or spring term for their D-Plan. That’s not the end of the world, but a bummer policy outcome because fall and spring are way more fun to be on campus for at Dartmouth than in the winter. The D-Plan is a major plus when you can run away during the winter, but is now way less flexible (I think there’s some policy workarounds with study abroads, but it just takes work and research now)
How did you live off campus? Was it within Hanover or was it in Lebanon/other nearby towns?
and also, what was your major? I'm planning on pursuing Computer Science or Computer Engineering while maybe looking into linguistics courses maybe leading to a minor, and I wanted to know what it's like there
ooh I did not know about the last one. thanks for sharing
I'll read into the Living Learning communities too! They sound really interesting
Hanover! On School Street. Just a 2 minute walk from the Collis student center. Longest walk was maybe the science building— 15 mins? The house was run down as hell lol but it was with all my best friends
I studied Cognitive Science! Tbh it’s a liberal arts school and you will take a bunch of classes. That combo of CS & ling sounds like a cool way to start
any tips for LOCI? 😭
Is there anything you wish you knew earlier entering as a freshman?
12 school?
Dartmouth is HARD. If you were a lazy HS student or just didn't need to do much work/study, get ready to not do that in college
Noted. I guess the ivies being known for grade inflation isnt entirely true
Remember they have some of the top students in the world
It can be hard and students can get high grades
Yeah lol i was like “hard? Dont most of the courses have B+ to A medians?” Then i realized wow thats B+ medians for ivy league level academic kids
some are lower too
congrats guys
Yeah Dimensions seems really fun since your paired with a student and get to see what it’s like being there
No more than the internet might offer, I’m afraid… best of luck 🤞
No, but close 😁
I was actually pretty involved with the outdoors club, but one of the biggest regrets I hear from my classmates is how little they took advantage of the resources there. Dartmouth throws so much money for you to go on trips (hiking, climbing, canoeing, surfing, Nordic skiing) locally and around the US and even the globe. Feel free to go take advantage of that! You don’t even have to be a part of a club and its culture (though that could help get you on trips)
I would suggest trying at least one of each at least once your freshman year: hiking, climbing, canoeing. They will have beginner trips for all of those on a website called “Trailhead.” Who knows, maybe you will find your next new thing and develop lifelong outdoors(wo)man skills for the rest of your time at Dartmouth?
I’m sorry friend… but there are other schools with plenty of great academics and opportunities like this!
its ok im just happy to know about dartmouth great school
This is sort of what makes me hesitant to commit to Dartmouth, especially as someone who wants to be pre-med. Will med schools I apply to be aware of the different in relative gpa from me and, say, someone who goes to Brown? Or would you recommend going to a different institution for pre-med because of the slight grade deflation?
I lived at 7.5 Maple senior year, and 9 Prospect junior summer
Brown is hard too
9P is a classic 💯
If you are going pre-med and will stick with it, I don’t think there’s a school that will make it “easy,” or one that makes more sense if strategized like this. You’re going to be in school and on a hustle for a looong time, so might as well just pick one where:
- You’ll be happy
- You like the student body
- If you change from pre-med, you can pivot into another program that will give you what you want
Assuming you stick through pre-med, this is probably the only time where you will really have “choice” when it comes to school and location. For med school and residency, you have to take the best thing you could get (which could be NYU in Manhattan or could be somewhere deep in Alabama). So I might treat yourself to picking where you want to go for undergrad based on where you would want to be, lol
There’s exceptions when you have something like an auto-admit to MD on the table, but doesn’t sound like the case here
Thanks, that's mostly what I was thinking about. I'm totally going to use whatever options are available for me, and I'm planning on applying to MD/PhD programs, which means I'll really have to go to the program that accepts me (and is entirely random and not guaranteed), so I'm looking at places that will make it fun/easy for me to use the resources I have. Dartmouth's triage center and student EMT group are two things that will make it really easy to get involved, so that's why I've been drifting towards committing there
total shit hole
this is good advice. I was premed and then I wasn't
and Dartmouth was great for both
Builds grit and character I’d say LMAOOO. Makes my shoebox apartment in Manhattan feel like I’m on the up 📈
And probably a little bit of permanent respiratory complications… just a little
(Don’t worry kids, not all off campus housing is like that LOL)
asbestos? 😭
Dartmouth is the place for unlimited growth! Both intellectually AND in terms of malignant tumors! :D
sounds fun
I do want character development
unfortunately, my parents prefer development of the career kind, and my mom is a mechanical engineer while my dad did a ton of work in computers, so CS/CE is the best path forward according to them (they're not entirely convinced that Dartmouth has the best facilities)
are there any words to sway the STEM soul?
I read into Dartmouth CS and did find it cool that 'Artificial Intelligence' was a term coined in a conference hosted by Dartmouth
and I loved the project partnerships with the business school (which count for credit!)
iirc Dartmouth unveiled a new CS building very very recently, too?
anyways this yap doesn't properly convey the conundrum I'm in: I genuinely really like Dartmouth and its environment (and their graduates are among the chillest I've ever met), but uni is kinda about career, and I'm nearly convinced by my parents that being in the city is better in almost every way
I understand that the d-plan allows students to go off-campus for internships when convenient, but having to find a new accomodation in another city seems like a bit of a hassle. How did you guys deal with that?
sorry for wall of text. only read/answer what is directly above because it's relevant
I should probably post an x-vs-y about this
I'll do that sometime
dartmouth has a CS building that is... 2 years old/
and the whole west end where engineering is also got redone
like any school, you'll useually do your internships during the summer
so where your school is doesn't matter
Everything you are thinking and feeling especially RE stem push is super valid. I might have time to come back for a more detailed perspective but top of mind thoughts:
-
Dartmouth CS will be a BA, not a BS. You will take less CS classes for your degree. That’s another variable (that you can feel free to share with your parents or not lol)
-
However Dartmouth also has the DALI Lab, a place where you get paid to learn full stack web development and work on real mobile and web apps for startups and local projects. It’s what gets everyone I knew who studied CS a job! That portfolio of projects and experiential education is priceless. You have to apply to get in and it’s a lot of work, but just something to look into
-
RE: having to find accommodation. It’s an unfortunate factor of adult life that will follow you. Might as well learn it now
-
One thing to beware about the D-Plan is if you’re an international student, due to visa things you might have to take summers off only :( I don’t know what the policies are these days, but many international students I know had to miss sophomore summer because of visa things
that last point is very much a bummer
oops wrong reply
that was directed at jood
Yeah, OVIS can certainly help you with that
I'm not 100% on it, but I do know it can be limiing
alright well as it's looking now (I just had a convo with my mom) I'm probably not going to commit here 😔
perhaps I'll pay a visit sometime. everything looks so pretty!!
thank you so much for answering my questions honestly, though
i appreciate it :)
In short, Stanford + CS = go at all costs
and although reductive of their argument, I'm kinda with them on it
it sucks to have to become part of the stereotype, though
I mean, that isn't a bad choice
it is like, 2am over here though. maybe the entire family will dream of keggy in the night and have a change in heart lmao
but in all seriousness, thanks for the answers!
i'll go write an email and sleep
Not a problem! I would do some more exploring of Stanford CS and its culture— I have a lot of friends that studied there and had mixed bag of experiences. Congratulations on having such wonderful choices, and I wish you all the best!
So I was waitlisted. Not what I wanted. But should I hold on? I reached back out to my interviewer and she was very positive. Said I was a perfect fit and said she already reached out to the interview director on my behalf. What should I do? Any tips, other than a LOCI? Or should I let the dream go?
Do a LOCI and mentally commit somewhere else
Go to their events, research, etc
it's free to keep playing
do your LOCI and see
most years there is no waitlist movement
i think one of the main hesitancies i have is the general social life at dartmouth-obv i might change my mind after i visit later in april, but from general opinions ive heard is that its mainly dominated by frats, partly bc there isn't rly much to do in hanover (besides the outing club). I'm fine with frats but idk if I'd find this kinda lifestyle fun for 4 years straight (who knows maybe I'll be fine, honestly dartmouth kinda reminds me of my hs, which idk is a good or bad thing since I've never rly experienced anything else besides being in a preppy, pwi. Atp im not rly sure if id prefer smth like rice's residential colleges or dartmouth's frats).
I think the main point I'm wondering ab is the lack of ability to do other things; I've heard that the clubs (besides the outing club) aren't rly active and if the few hobbies that i do like bouldering aren't rly available at dartmouth (ik there's a dartmouth climbing gym but ngl it looks tiny af and nothing compared to gravity vault or any other standard climbing place) i fear id get bored quick. Don't get me wrong, i love doing outdoor stuff sometimes, whether its skiing, hiking, camping, or playing sports, but idk if thats smth i would frequently do in college. I think im also wondering ab what dartmouth students might miss being so secluded in hanover, as I've never rly lived far from anything being in the nyc metropolitan area
There are tons of clubs. The climbing gym is smallish, but you can also get to climbing off campus quickly, so you can do it on real rock. I never missed anything living in hanover. Dartmouth has music, art, sports, etc
also is there anywhere i can find actual career outcomes for dartmouth? trying to find actual numbers for median/avg salary for my major and cant seem to find any specific/official numbers
Let me know if you have more specific questions
majors aren't careers
what are you loking at doing?
ik but i feel like its an easy way to categorize the kind of field i want to work in
idrk tbh, for now, probably something tech-related but if i go to dartmouth esp i might switch around a lot if i can/do find smth of more interest
So then how woudl you see career outcomes if you aren't looking at a specific career
People do well, there's is plenty of recruiting, and the network is great
like I know people who have done any major you can miagine and gone on to work in a huge variety of fields
I mean most other colleges i can view data of post-graduate/first destination/career outcomes which often entail the diff places ppl go to work, but specifically median salaries based on major/college
Lol yea i saw those but those surveys r kinda vague and generally dont give any details ab specific salaries and js say “$90,000+”… idk if this means thats its like 95k or more like 140
looks like it is 80-90k
That maaaay not include people who do the BE?
bu you can see that over half of people start at 90+
Yea true; thx for the help, i can also try asking current dartmouth students to see if they maybe have any more specific info
Yep, definitely. OVerall, I don't think you need to worry about career otucomes
I would say most people who run into trouble fall in the the fail to plan category, rather than having their good plan not work
and like I said, I know people who have gone from Dartmouth to do almost anytihng you can imagine
U think? I feel like its one of the few ways that i can more objectively see how much the degree can help me
I mean, I don't know where you are comparing to, but since you don't really know what you want, Dartmouth can 100% meet whatever need you come up with
I will also say that like a 10k difference in average doesn't mean a ton. There are a lot of factors that go into it
True, i do think that if i dont rly know what i want to do (considering i dont change my mind from visits to diff colleges and whatnot) darty sounds like the safest bet
If I look at the options in your username (let me know if that isn't right), it certainly gives the most flexibility (with Rice, I guess?).
You could major in engineering and CS, or CS and minor in human centered design, or ECON and whatever you want
really any combo is doable
espeically with stuff like modified majors
will do! thank you so much <3
Some of the happiest people I know at Dartmouth decided to try lots of new things and found what they loved. A capella, canoeing, anthropology research, college policy, linear algebra, woodworking, 3D animation design, etc. If that’s not something you expect yourself to be open to do, then yeah there’s nothing else to do at Dartmouth except frats and outdoors.
Theres rock climbing close by i think
I skimmed the convo but here https://www.dartmouth.edu/oir/student_outcomes/student_outcomes.html
It has career outcomes for most majors + info
Dr biggreen (and also jood)
How close to the stereotypes are the frats at dartmouth
Like nothing about the frats sound bad to me. Parties, pong, all sound pretty fun
But if the stereotypical douche bag frat boy type of people are common there then thats a different story
I think those are for sure exaggerated but even toned down is kinda worrying
i’ve got no personal insight but from what i’ve heard the Dartmouth greek scene is more inclusive and less douchey than most school’s greek life. Going to be people like that anywhere but i’ve heard good things about it. Again only from second hand researching though
In fact, you can climb real rocks too! No equipment needed. Just hop on a mountain climbing club trip
lol those exist, but it tends to be in the frats that cater to athletes or the wealthiest. house cultures vary throughout “generations,” but some spaces were very much not typical douche frat bro 2 years ago
Oh neat im not an athlete nor wealthy
There are also awesome people in those houses too
can a 600 word 1 page LOCI be fine? length wise
I guess yeah
i realized i heavily undersold myself - in terms of fit, insight, and much more, so im banking everything on this LOCI even though probably wotn work out too well haha
real
Did any of the admits get this?
yes i got it
Where is this lol i didnt get it
It was in an email sent to me about 10hrs ago
I was just confused because I don't remember reading that such a thing existed
So wanted to make sure that I wasn't falling for a slack phishing scam lol
Odd. I didnt get an email but i think dartmouth.edu is secure
Did you submit intent to enroll already?
Because I haven't. Maybe that's why.
i did yeah
Yes
Fartmouth
💀
are you guys going to join?
I'm considering enrolling elsewhere but Dartmouth people are really chill so I might just hang out a while to chill
and maybe they'll change my mind 👀
if anyone else has joined, could you say if it's active or not? etc.
I would just go join. What’s the worst that can happen? You probably said you won’t even go there!
sure!
just joined :)
Wow Dartmouth had a personal note in the acceptance package
Same!
ooh! did you get a tracker link for your packet? Brown sent one but I haven't heard from the others
just anxious (and excited!!)
I never got a link, but hopefully your packet is delivered soon!
WE GOT PACKAGES??
havent gotten anything from any college yet 😭
However i think this may be because i havent checked my mail. Not sure
Dartmouth mentioned in the class reading
I’ve found 2 people who have used r/a2c in it too
Rick Clark from Georgia tech and someone from common app
Love Lee
I get so excited every time its mentioned
But feels like this has been going on for ages anyways
People would hire writers, this just made it free
Imo an ivy admit would probably have better writing than chatgpt but that wont be the case for long imo
Did peer review in my freshman writing class with a lacrosse player in 2018. I had been feeling very unsure of my writing skills up until that point. Afterwards, I felt very good about them…
subtle shade thrown 😬

I just got the acceptance package... I feel so sad now
the handwritten letter and all the "welcome home"s 💔 💔 😭
Guys I got my entire dartmouth dimensions trip covered but its at the exact same dates as two of my AP tests
Do yall think its worth missing them for this
They’re ap’s that dartmouth doesnt accept for college credit anyways
Oh
Sorry
I use AP as an umbrella term because my school has a weird mix of AP classes and Cambridge AS level classes
But they function the exact same so it gets bothersome to specify
But the tests it overlaps with are AS english lit and marine science
well... it makes things confusing
Fair enough
isn't AS 11th grade?
Uhhh in England you usually do two year 6 credit courses with AS the first year and A level the second year
right
But my school is an american one doing the international program and its too underfunded for A levels so most classes are only offered at AS level which is a 3 credit 1 year course
then unless it would cause issues with you graduating, missing a meaningless exam doesn't seem to matter
That makes sense. I was just wondering if I was forgetting something I could use them for post HS
Thanks Dr biggreen

This thread disappeared on my megathreads list so i wanted to make it appear again
When do I need to send my official SAT score to college by?
Perfect, I was worried I had to send the scores so that they got them before May 1
but I only need to confirm I intend to enrol iirc
yeah
some schools do preenrollment stuff as you get admitted
dartmouth waits until people are committed
I remember waiting after I got in ED to hearing anything and it felt like FOREVER
anyone else at dimensions today?
Honestly i dont think any other college i toured can compete this place is awesome
keep us updated!
Met president Beilock! Made a joke that made some others laugh. She just stared at me. Very intimidating
Also wow I met an international student who was georgian like me that almost never happens i was so happy
Played and improved at foosball but sadly not pong 😔 also did movie night watching la la land in a secret hangout spot i was told not to disclose
Cant believe i thought this would be like my umichigan or uf or any other college tour where you just look around the campus and go back to the hotel. I truly felt like a student there and everyone was so incredibly kind and welcoming that I didn’t wanna leave
🎉🎉🎉
yoo nice!
dimensions was pretty great, I went on the earlier day and after freezing cold days the sun finally broke on dimensions day and all the students were out on the green
I'm ass at spikeball but it was still fun to just talk to the other '29s and stuff
The exact same thing happened with us
Freezing cold shivering the day before my jaw was literally beatboxing from the cold
But during dimensions it was all warm and nice
Either they plan the days specifically or they manipulate weather with a dr doof inator
Weather control machine has long been rumored to be in the basement of Parkhurst
Do we get another 'acceptance package' once we commit?
I feel like i saw stuff from years past saying they got like a bag of m&m's or something but there was nothing of the sort in the original acceptance package w/ the patch and the sticker and stuff
No i dont think so
I think the patch in the package means you committed? Or i could be thinking of the pin in the dimensions wallet they give you
Might just change every year. Last year they got free pizza and a free chicken sandwich but they didnt get free dartmouth shirts like us at dimensions
nah that was the pin
damn i feel like last year’s acceptance packages were cooler. Didn’t Colgate send out a vacuum sealed pizza or something?
Ur right uncomitting from dartmouth cuz they didnt give me m&m’s
Vacuumed shipped pizza is insane
Why would u want that
apparently it was edible 🤷♂️
oh okay apparently that wasn’t an acceptance package it was for remote students during covid
Just days into the mandatory 14-day quarantine, NYU students were served the now-infamous watermelon chicken salad. The strange combination was one of several poorly executed meals delivered to students quarantining in residential housing — if they received meals at all — that quickly gained popularity on TikTok. The video-sharing platform s...
This is the actual salad
When do dartmouth waitlist results generally start getting released?
Many years there aren't any
oh oops I thought we were talking about acceptance packages not covid meals
either way
If anyone has questions feel free to ping or DM, on yopt of doing admissions work now, I used to be a registrar at Dartmouth
Might be silly but what does a registrar do?
The registrar's office manages the academic systems and data of the college
Stuff like transcripts, course election, academic policy, the computer systems to interact with all of that
Grades
Course scheduling
Did you do it after graduating?
I heard you can get a job in admissions/for the university as an undergrad
Which i defo wanna do. Or even an internship though idk if they have those
They have undergrad interns plus there are tour guides
Ooooo
Would you say being an alumni made getting a job at dartmouth easier
Of the ao’s i met one was an alum but the other went to tufts
It certainly helped me since I came into my job with a knowledge of academic policy
And interpreting policy was a part of my job
It's definitely cool working for the college, but being on staff when everyone else has graduated in an adjustment and it doesn't pay well
That makes sense. Is there any preference for alums though? Vs someone equally competent
In admissions, maybe. I think alums will just tend to be more qualified on certain ways for certain jobs
in most cases how much can senior year final grades drop before a rescind?
No single answer
hi? hows the stem scene at dartmouth???
Computer Science and Engineering had a massive glowup recently with the ECSC being completed in 2022.
There's an interdisciplinary focus present for CS (see Neukom Institute) and a hands-on learning one too (see DALI Lab)
Absolutely loved those things about Dartmouth and my visit there reinforced my intent to apply there
Deceptively strong in those fields for a school "in the middle of the woods"
also a fun fact: the term "Artificial Intelligence" was invented at Dartmouth!
I obviously know more about EE/CS because those are my interests but I'm sure the same positive sentiment applies to other STEM fields
omg teaming up with business students seems like a dream tbh
I wanna do stuff like that (!!)
but yeah, DArtmouth's approach to (this is true for every field really) STEM is very interdisciplinary
The goal isn't really students who come and just do CS
most students will have other interests
my brother in law was an engineer but minored in classics
and almost double majored,b ut would have had to take a class with a professor he hated
But yeah!! This was a very significant pull factor for me. My entire set of accomplishments until the point of applying consisted of interdisciplinary applications of computer science and AI/statistics and I loved learning my languages (French) and earth sciences (through Geography) as a result of those interdisciplinary interests.
I'll honestly always wonder if Dartmouth would've been a better fit :/
But life moves on
I imagine you can still puruse those at Stanford
Of course haha but I'm scared of the supposed tunnel-vision CS grind culture there
I'll do my best to pave my own path there
But like in terms of employability considering all degrees are BA and not BS?? @undone crest @terse apex
I'd really appreciate if you guys can clarify that for me
BA vs BS doesn't matter
Harvard only gives ABs
same as dartmouth
(other htan engineering)
which as an AB, and a 5 year BE
Hmmm so is Dartmouth worth it. Or should I apply early to some other school. Idk my friend and everyone online is so discouraging of Dartmouth
Also I feel like the startup culture and stuff isn't there at Dartmouth. Or is that changing now I'll probably be class of 2030
@undone crest sorry for tagging again
Why are they discouraging? Do they actually know anything about Dartmouth?
So basically to them it's better for me to apply ED to Duke or UChicago which are higher ranked than Dartmouth.
Personally I like the D plan system of Dartmouth so.
@undone crest
ranking is meaningless
Going to Dartmouth over Duke or Chicago is not going to give you fewer options
Hmmmmmmm thx. Also why is Dartmouth hated by the other ivies???? Just asking for fun
???
So you know it's consider the worst ivy I read on Reddit alot of posts about it. I'm applying to Dartmouth too cause I just love the campus and the people and their mindsets there. but ya I never understood the hate
I don't really know how to answer that
Nvm ignore
Yeah the engineering glowup was clutch
Dartmouth definitely has a far less stemmy reputation but we’re catching up
Maybe only yale is less than us
which is dumb... Two of the top 5 majors are STEM
Actually the 3rd-7th most popular majors are all STEM
and Econ is coded as a STEM major for OPT purposes
I mean yeah honestly i think part of it is that a lot of the ivies beat us to renovating their stem departments
I can answer this who kinda got the same impression when i got accepted
Uhhhh people like to say its the worst ivy cuz its the least general. We get less applications bc of the location and ruralness, and it isnt the type of school that works for everyone
That, combined with being one of the slightly less selective/ lesser known ones, kind of gives the school an impression when u get accepted
But even in my month of being a committed student, I’ve gotten nothing but pure respect from people in my school, people applying to colleges next year, and other ivy league students when they hear im going to Dartmouth
So that impression is just flat out false honestly
And the same things that make dartmouth not the place for everyone make it extra special and amazing for the people who have strong fit imo. If you feel like it has elements youd like more than others, then thats what you should be focusing on. Schools like uchicago arent worse schools, but theyre not better either, and many years as rankings fluctuate dartmouth either beats them or doesnt. Rankings mean little to nothing especially when you’re within such a close range
remember Dartmouth admits fewer students than any other ivy 😉
and yes, it definitely isn't for everyone
I majored in philosophy with minors in bioethics and anthropology
Remember you aren't admitted to a major
Take lots of classes
Explore the offerings
There's so much taught at Dartmouth you've never seen before
guys i caleld dartmouth regarding WL
they said they havent taken anyone off yet
and its too early to determine if they need to take students off or how many they will take off
Many years they take 0
if they haven't even looked at this point, it is pretty unlikely they will
yeah i think their acceptnace rate sometimes is like 1%
i mean, it is often 0
Yeah Dartmouth seems to leave very little space for waitlists and transfers
Maybe theyre just very sure in who they want
and I mean the dartmouth class size is just so small they don’t need a lot of kids to call it and not take any WL’ers
ik someone in my shcool who got off the WL last year
I just found out you can take classes at tuck as an undergrad
Granted theres only 3 of them but wow thats kind of amazing to be able to take advantage of a top 5 business school
It's not exactly at Tuck. They are Tuck classes adapted for undergrads
I figured, but if its the same professors then thats still awesome
😔goodbye
@undone crest dr big green do you know if dartmouth reports A+ grades on your transcript
For the purpose of law school admissions since they value A+ as a 4.33 regardless of the percentage grade
Yeah of course. It is pretty wild though that some schools get you a genuine .3 boost when in most cases whether you meet the median or not can be the deciding factor of if you get in
Again, schools know Dartmouth. The assessment system has a scale, they know there arent 4.33s
https://transcripts.lsac.org/TranscriptKeys/3351_062018_129999.htm
Yeah, in any holistic manner it shouldnt affect admissions, if anything just being from dartmouth should boost my qualitative appeal a lot
But moreso that law schools are a lot less holistic and a lot more stats based because they need to maintain their medians. So even with all the knowledge in the world they still have to give preferance to the higher 4.33 gpa as if it was on a 4.0 scale or vice versa
I guess in the end its not that big of a disadvantage. Just means you have to work a bit harder in the end
You're over thinking it
Getting ahead of the “What is that?” questions

@undone crest hey, quick question about dorms during the winter. Are they like well insulated? Or do I have to go to bed wearing base layers lol
Some of the weather data I’ve seen is almost scary even though while I was a ski instructor our hot water was broken for 3 days 💀💀 don’t want a repeat of that
Pretty warm. Newer ones have radiant heating in the floor older ones have radiators and tbf sometimes you need to open a eindow
It gets cold for sure, but nothing you can't prepare for
what happens if i persay forgot to fill out the academic interest form
and now it just does this to me every time i try and open it up
From memory my choice was already pre selected so I think they know already and it’s just a confirmation thing (or an opportunity to change) so I wouldn’t worry
It probably prefilled from what you put on your application
big chillin
housing assignments came out!
Where'd you get?
wheeler
my dad lived there for two years
good location
older building
i got morton
Morton?
