yeah getting into schreyer and doing schreyer are totally different
good job ma brada
thanks mate
there’s no direct admittance at penn state for most majors
I don't believe so, most people in the college of engineering start as an engineering pre-major, and once you complete the required courses within a certain amount of credits, you will be admitted to the major
Wait it says I can apply to penn state still
Anyone know when I would get my decision back
It's rolling
prolly will be hard now
idk it's weird
4-6 weeks
but I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be longer since they had a huge flux of apps
hmm ok ill check my thing again
ok yup still nothing
I applied November 1st and heard back during Christmas week
thats cuz nov 1 is still ea
same
You should call them.
Maybe they haven't received a document or something
it says they received everything and they’re just reviewing
penn state had 85,000+ applicants to university park last year
it’ll take a little bit, especially if you applied right before the deadline lmfao
i applied october 25th and got my decision in the mail on december 23rd
They were also very backlogged with ea pool
I applied mid October and got a decision by first/second week of December
i mean the ea date was by december 24th so it tracks lol
bc the decisions for rd are rolling it’s gonna take a while for anyone who didn’t apply in november/early december to get a decision
I got lucky and got it before the 24th but there are a lot of people who got theirs weeks after the 24th
got my penn state decision back
damn that took a while
applied jan 4th and got it back now
nice u got in?
Is there a Penn state 2028 server or anything?
I wanna meet other campus friends but all those people on the Penn state 2028 pages probably just want followers
If i applied rolling today, when should i expect a decision to come back?
aye i randomly got into penn state oos
Nice
@winter fossil
Wrong Penn but TYSM 😭
yea my bad lol
penn state better anyways
YKB !!
Does this mean admitted directly to major "
Congratulations - you have been admitted to Penn State!
I am pleased to offer you admission to the College of Engineering with the intended major of Computer Science for fall 2024 at Penn State University Park. "
No, that is your projected major, all students in the college of engineering start as engineering pre majors
Once you fulfill the requirements, you can then declare your major, around the end of your first year or start of 2nd year
sheesh how many cs people are here
anyways does psu allow double majors or no?
yes
no they dont admit by major
yeah they have to lol, but ur kinda fucked with the 19 credit surcharge
too many, the weak ones will drop cs after they take cs360 lol
if 360 doesnt do it itll be 465
anyway,
if you have questions feel free to ping
hey is summer sem worth it. i got accepted but hv to do summer sem. im fine with if financially and all but it will be a little rushed for me as an international(within a month of my exams ending, idek how visa and all will work) and im not mentally ready 😭
I’d always encourage summer terms! You can knock out 6-9 credits which really alleviates the rest of your year, and you get into school mode much earlier. It also helps with the transition to college imo (adjusting the the difficulty level of classes and living on your own)
ic thx thx
have to?
oh
what about minors
the people ive talked to say that summer is always worth it
like, you can double major in almost anything
the notable exceptions are no bschool double majors
whats bschool?
and if youre in science you cant major in math and applied stat at the same time
which is
slightly frustrataing
business school
oh so if im econ i cant do finance
np
so u cant do phy+math or am i misintepreting
you can
they just fuck u over for math and stat
sadly
ah unfortunate lol
yeah
whats ur opinion on the math and phy program at psu btw. i got admitted for phy summer 24
yep
choosing between stony(also similar stats)
and uarizona(stronger in astro but not so great in math/phy)
and psu
@turbid trellis sorry to ping- just curious on what you know about penn states prevet program (Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences major)
idk about that
Just say it’s good to make me happy😭
it is my top school right now and i got in so I'm pretty happy. I've heard pretty good things about it, I know they just built a new building for it so thats nice
Penn state is a good school overall, I had other choices but I don't regret choosing Penn state one bit
Especially since I'm in state
does penn state give aid?
Unless you are in schreyers the majority of their aid is very competitive, especially for merit. They give some need based scholarships but merit is pretty competitive
They recommend to apply to outside scholarships
anyone know if there is a snap gc for admitted students for psu?
have Penn state as undecided major, Indiana Pre business and ASU business, any advice on chosing a good option for business. International student so no instate benefit. IU-B given a 40K(10K per year scholorship)
Penn state Business School is one of the best I'd say, however since you are intl. You would be paying full price for Penn state oos, I think more than $50k for your first year since tuition is 39k and housing and meals is $12k
So it depends on your ability to pay
How difficult is to get into Business school from undeclared major
how hard is it to get double major at penn state
rejected from every school so i’ll see yall here 🫡
Anyone know of an instagram or Snapchat gc for psu class of 2028?
guys purdue econ vs tamu econ vs penn state econ (also posted on school x vs y but didnt get much replies)
let me know if you find it too
How do we check the cost of admission? Or is it even available yet?
I am not sure, but I think there are certain majors that are difficult to get into the business school, smeal, if you start as undecided
It's not hard for most majors, but it will be hard for your course load and being able to graduate on time. Recently they implemented a fee for taking over 19 credits, but due to ppl complaining it might be repealed
For certain majors though like engineering, it could be difficult, depending on what two majors you want, since each engineering plan is very heavy
It should be available on the Penn state admissions website, at least for this academic year. I don't think they decided on next year, but I would plan for it to become a bit more expensive or stay the same
I'll look on school x vs y to see the full context, but Penn state has a strong econ program
yo @solemn fern is penn state 2+2 worth it?
this is what I see.
I aleady submitted my fafsa and css for context
Ohh you mean the cost after factoring in your FAFSA and other aid?
Ok in that case they probably haven't gotten your FAFSA yet, the u.s. education department has had a pretty rocky rollout of the new format this year, with lots of adjustments needing to be made and delays after delays
But if you know your FAFSA number you could estimate with the current tuition costs
yeah but idk about scholarships and such
I would assume the worst case scenario, that you don't get any, since they are pretty competitive especially for first years, outside of maybe 1-2k in financial need scholarships if you really need it
They recommend first years to seek external scholarships
ooof thatll suck then. thanks for the help tho!
Yeah of course, no problem. Hope they will give you a good fin aid package!
is there a big difference between pitt and penn state for engineering? like in terms of job opportunities, research, etc? ik penn state has a greater network but based on what i've read online in terms of quality of education they are pretty much the same
so is it true that
penn state max math course for economics is calc 1?
thats what i saw according to my research
Instate?
Correct, oftentimes some people take a math minor or double major so they can learn more math
If we're talking about general engineering, they're about on the same level, but if you want a more specific major one engineering discipline may be better taught at one college than the other
have you met/spoke with any nucE majors? i’m interested in doing that and penn state is one of the few colleges near me that offers it
i’d have to go RPI or an ivy (not betting on that) for it, would do EE if I have to choose an alternative
I have not spoken with any nucE majors lately, but I will say that Penn state has a nuclear reactor on campus, and I have heard it is a good department. If you would like, I can try to get you in contact with some nuce students, through the campus' American nuclear engineering society
EE is also a strong engineering major at Penn state
that’s actually what got me interested with penn lol
that would be great honestly thank you so much
good to know
i know nucE is a lot more popular for grad school n stuff
maybe an EE foundation would be better? still unsure
Yep ofc no problem! I'll send you some contact info in the morning, I'm about to go to sleep rn
Yeah there are a lot of possibilities within engineering, you still have some time to decide though
Thankfully most entrance to major requirements are similar between engineering majors
youre awesome for this man i really appreciate it
until a month or so ago i was a CS kid lol
but i was “interested” in it for the money tbh
don’t think that’s a good reason to dedicate my higher education for
gn man
I gotchu, yeah it's still pretty early and lots of people change their minds on their major even after starting classes
shame
Why so?
got into Penn state Economics, how difficult is to move to Smeal college of business from Econ Major..
secondly can i do double major with Finance and Economics
very easy
the real name of econ is like quantitative economics and econometrics or some bullshit name
i didnt know it had calc 1 as their max
thats a huge bummer for me
you can take more
econ 106 is like math 414 without the theory
what
oh so no restrictions?
i meant like going fufrther into the path
like calc 2 and further
so is there a chance that i could do it before i get into campus
yes
im assuming i have to commit first though
you would have to take classes too
u can’t declare till 30 credits
for most majors
yeah
hopefully data science or finance fits with the 30 credits
does penn state give any aid?
not really lol
especially for out-of-state
something like 60% of their undergrads have student loans
your best bet would’ve been the $5k/year that you get for being in the honors college
they gave me a scholarship of $5500 today
kinda shocked but its still so expensive
that’s a direct federal unsubsidized loan lol
they include loans in their aid packages
that’s pretty much common practice for state/public schools lol
bruh i got 0
i got 5.5k too
but from fafsa
that 5.5k isnt aid, its a federal loan that every school is req to give you but u need to pay back
it’s also an unsubsidized loan
so interest accrues while you’re in school just like private loans
you don’t have to accept it, but they offer it anyways
...
i am dead
im not planning to
is there like a penn state discord?
There’s a main discord but you need your email activated
went to psu graduation pretty cool
purple name, congrats on committing!
did any of you get your financial aid back?
