for cs?
engineering
eh i wouldve done ED for cornell but not RD
Yeah I'm gonna be applying to penn, cornell and princeton
for cornell how do ppl get good internships cuz like isnt it in the middle of nowehre
not Harvard tho
i ED'd JHU just to get deferred
A bunch of my friends Ed to corners and got rejected
like 4 hours from the nearest city
travel to NYC i think
over the summer
makes me mald because i couldve done smth like Boston University and prolly get in
same it was tough
thats why im in love with gatech tbh
ah
I wanna get in so bad
same
Ik
i just hope to not be rejected
my friend got deferred but then wrote a fire loci
already rejected
and got in
bro michigan is actually whacj
bro weire applying for like identical schools 💀
That’s crazy😭
i sold on my umich essays tho
the community one especially
umich was my last EA
so i just rushed
Bro I did them the day they were so
last year one of my bio partners made it to MIT, Stanford, Harvard, and Penn, and got rejected from Michigan
Same😭
💀
It’s so hard too
fr same
mf broke my schools stanford curse and still got rejected from UMich
I'm holding out for Gatech or UMD
Umd too
its Purdue or Rutgers for me
Lucky
im holding out for gatech and uiuc
ye it was fun to write
Umd was fun
nah umd cs is getting so competitive even for my school
im gonna go to JHU and then join a gang for the dadlore
?
LOL
baltimore shit
😭
my dad went to school in baltimore and got attacked while doing a project once 😂
I’m dying
i have a tier 1 plan to get my kids into an ivy league
lmfao
bro what😭
have their personal essay be about how they grew up around violence
maybe divorce my wife for more essay lore
bro when we have kids the acceptance rate for ivies gonna be like 0.00002%
i acc know someone whos parents did that
Bro thoight this out too much
it was crazy
like in state education the same only diff to me is the title
well maybe not same
but similar
Nj has like two known schools
public schools have bigger class sizes
Rutgers and Princeton
like thats it
njit has been getting its recognition lately
True
maryland also only has 2 umd and jhu lmaoo
but unexpected
HUH
Prolly paid for@it
thats what im saying but the fact it got recognition 😭
umd best public (not biased at all) ((plz let me in 🥺 ))
georgia tech too based
I just wanna get into@one of my top schools for cs
I'm mad they switched it up this year with letters and sciences
i gave up EDing partially for GT
I’ll be happy in life
rutgers pissed me off with the honors college essay
lmao
mfs last year and years before didnt have to do that
was this the one abt what problem u wanna solve
penn state pissed me off with the honors essay
they just got accepted in
I wrote straight bs on that
(s)
lmao the penn state ones were awful
i saw the penn state essays and just said nuh uh
or smth
Only did rutgers honors idk
same
did u do the optoinal essay
same
for psu
bc its the only school im probably going to go to
thank god OSU had no essays
i only did rutgers honors bc the rest of the schools i wouldve gone to besides rutgers was my reaches and im not making it to no ivy honors college
if there even is one
Virgina tech has honors but i@didn’t do that
i only applied to the rest of my schools bc i got waivers + i needed a dopamine rush
oh it does??
yea
It had no essays
yet another school were both applying to lmao
i dont think
o
i opted into the corp of cadets program bc i want to do rotc but lowk dont know if i want a strict college lifestyle 😭
I thought they just used your UT prosims
Whoops
Rotc is crazy
Good
trynna go into the military path
That’s cool tho
where else am i gonna make bread as a mechanicalengineer
What is that
wdym
Like it’s not comp engineering
yeah its not CS
Is it like robotics
somewhat
Interesting
just physical mechanics
Did u take ap physics
It’s rough i heard
Lowk we should stop texting in the penn state mega thread
oh yeah i needa study for an AP comp sci test thanks for reminding me 😭
not bad but i procrastinate
Physics 1 is mid/rough if it's your first ap science and if you have never taken physics before
Physics C mechanics is much easier if you have done ap 1
I submitted a 1490 and 3.8 uw and got accepted to university park
For mechanical engineering
I guess it depends on the major and ec's
me who took physics c mechanics and skipped physics 1
idk i got ed deferred from a t20 so i feel like my ecs and all that are at least decent in a way that its good enough for penn state yk
If yall get some gen eds done through AP credits, like math, physics, etc, it's going to save you quite some time and gives you an upper hand in penn state
just make sure to know the threshold for AP credit transfer, iirc for math and physics you need a 4 or 5.
Again, if y'all have any questions about Penn State, let either me or Pahari know , and we'll try to answer them!
does penn state message when ur decision comes out
nah i saw it by opening the portal
oh
damn taking a bit longer than usual
Good question, i'm not sure if I did recieve a message when it came out, but looking back i did get a lot of emails congratulating me on the acceptance + getting an acceptance letter in the mail
For me it was out on the portal a few days before I received an email
No physical letter received yet (and I doubt I'll get one)
They do send one
most people say that they do get a message, but it appears in the portal a couple days beforehand
same boat as u🥲
even to internationals? friends from my school who got decision more than a week before me still havent received theirs
You guys should apply shreyers
They gave me a lot of scholarship I remember
And its also a hella good honors college
Idts for international students
its 10 essays
Oh shit man
Lmao I wrote 16 essays for psu the year I applied
Penn state still didn’t respond
same
Oh idk abt internationals
I don't think internationals get physical letters unless you're very Chad lol
Just email and letter pdf
nah penn state isnt my top anyways
damn penn state apps is down
so that means they gotta get EA decisions out before friday right
cuz they promised 12/24
otherwise apparently im regular decision
which doesnt make sense cuz i submitted everything on nov 1 x-x
I got 2+2-ed 😦
definitely
bruh ive been waiting so long these next few days are gonna be an eternity
this is how pitts got me feeling smh
you applied end of sep?
early oct
damn
do OOS people get 2+2d a lot?
accept me instead of emailing me about aid
i don't think so. this seems to be happening a lot especially this year though. ive seen quite a few people say penn state is trying to strengthen their branch campuses but i don't think that's working in their favor
Is the app status website down/very slow for anyone else right now?
Are they just releasing results rn and everyone's overwhelming it?
They just sent a very ominous email telling me to register for FAFSA
hopefully bruh i can't wait any longer
Well I'm still under review apparently
after psu my next college decision is in february i need to just relax
Portal opened for u?
Just did after 10 minutes of waiting; 5 minutes getting to the login, 5 minutes actually logging in
Bruh Penn state sucks
is ur test optional still there
Applied EA and still no decisions
I think so
Thing is I'm confused; why say everything will be done by Christmas, and then declare closing on the 22nd?
for pitt i found out i got accepted a couple days before the acceptance letter
could be the same
Cuz it’s shit uni
Ngl
Also doesn't Penn send you physical mail too?
I read that on one of their QnA pages I think
why'd you apply 😭
they sent me a mail
Got accepted?
ya
Np
At this point I think like Time said, they're just opening the floodgates and releasing it all tnt
And the site is getting overwhelmed + it'll take a few hours to get everyone's results
yall got this 💪
fingers crossed!!
Same
Thanks!
if they close the 22nd then they should be done by the 22nd then
bc obv they wont work christmas
maybe its like a guarantee for the mail or smth
im gonna bet you'll have a decision tomorrow or day after
idk ingot mine like day before yesterday during my schools lunch hours
like i had checked in the morning when i woke up and then at like 11 and got it at 11
same thing with my friend who made it two weeks ago like almost 11 on the dot during lunch
so id say midday
probably
Thing is the FAFSA email I got said “Students new to Penn State should prepare to submit the FAFSA in January 2024.”, but the portal still says nothing
I also got this and I applied on December 1st
Oh so it’s just an applicant-wide message
yeah probably
because i havent gotten my official "acceptance" email yet either
like i got in throught the portal
but id assume that i wouldve gotten my acceptance email or smth before fafsa
They're a bit behind portal results, but it should come soon
Got mine this morning, Film major ^^
they always release in mornings?
Still no decision on my end 😦
samee
in my business class today sm ppl said they haven't gotten decisions still
Got mine also today morning but they didn't send any mail
finally got into smeal uni park
they released?
not sure if it all comes out at the same time but u should check
still nothing out
bad uni ngl
Tends to be a good safety tho
Patience is a virtue, there are a lot of people who apply and it takes a long time to sift through them. Congratulations to all who have gotten their decisions, but if you have not yet, best wishes!
Again, if y'all have any questions about Penn state, feel free to ask!
I'm mostly knowledgeable about the campus life and courses but I'll try my best to answer any admissions questions too!
How are the dorms?
It says they range from meh/okay to great, it depends on what you're chosen for/what you want. There are 4 main areas, give me a minute or so to write and describe each one:
North: Suite style dorms(like a couple separate smaller rooms per room) and renovated dorms. It's pretty quiet but some people like that. It's a little far from downtown though but you can take the on campus bus if you don't feel like walking. Tends to be more expensive. The commons area closest to north is okay but they're improving it.
South: mix of renovated dorms and unrenovated. The renovated dorms are a little smaller than the unrenovated but you get the advantage of pod style(communal but separate rooms) bathrooms. The renovated dorms in south dorms are reserved for upperclassmen though. Great placement to downtown and some classes and overall pretty lively. The commons area for this section is pretty good, and it's in proximity to Pollock.
Pollock: all unrenovated dorms, I'd say some of the worst dorms on campus, it's communal bathrooms, and the buildings are pretty old. Cheapest option for living on campus though, and a good bit of freshmen who don't get into east usually end up in Pollock. Even though it's the worst dorms, they're okay by living standards, and it kind of fosters a better sense of community. Close to the best buffet and commons desk on campus, Pollock Commons. (1/2)
That's half of the areas
Thanks for sharing
Also, do people have cars on campus
Since psu is in the middle of the state
And hours away from major cities
(2/2) East: this is a living area dedicated to freshmen. It's all renovated, they recently did those renovations and they finished it. It's good from what I hear, pod style bathrooms but still it's renovated, meaning ac when it's hot outside. It is a little far from other classes and downtown but you can take the on campus bus for free if you don't feel like walking. The commons desk is okay from what I hear. I will say it has gained some notoriety though since its the source of most freshman shenanigans, but definitely you should consider living here since you get the quintessential freshman experience.
West: on the west side of campus, unrenovated dorms and the buildings are kinda old but it's close to classes and the commons area is good. Close to the library too and closer to downtown than east or north. I can't say much else about it though since I don't go there too often.
There are other living areas too but those are reserved for upperclassmen: (nittany apartments, blue course commons, etc)
Yes, people can have cars on campus, although first year students are basically not allowed since you have to hit a certain number of credits(iirc it's 25). This is partly because they don't want freshman to go back every weekend and they want them to be more involved in campus life, and that there wouldn't be enough parking spots
Of course, no problem! I wish I could pin it so people can more easily see it if they have the same questions
Yep, and a substitute for driving back home or to certain cities is taking coach buses or flights. There are a lot of bus companies set up that can take you from state college to cities, like to philly, NYC, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Washington DC, for example
Greyhound, Ourbus, Megabus, fullington trailways are a few
Unfortunately there is no train that goes to state college, but Greyhound is partnered with Amtrak so you go to Harrisburg and then take a short connection to the train. Alternatively you can take an Uber or Lyft to a nearby small town that has Amtrak and then take it from there
Cool
Are all decisions for EA in now since they are on winter break?
I'm not too sure
Yeah if course! Sorry with the new discord system I always keep forgetting to check message requests lol
up is overenrolled
thats why
they keep accepting too many kids
i feel lucky i even got in 💀
lmao the only reason i found out i got in was cause my friend posted him getting in and i checked. they usually dont send anything.
just keep checking mypennstate
not worth lol
only apply if ur already in
w. congrats!
south stans rise!
love south
nah
Ah
Yh I think I just forgot about that whole process 💀
Definitely the best dorms and location
thought i hit the case thread
it just hit morning here you'll get it back today
but it's weird urs says that for me it said under review for a while
When did u get under review
getting the same thing as well
shouldnt have applied tbh
same
According to their website, decision should come out by the 24th
btw when did you fill out the srar?
nov 15 or 20 idk
i was hella busy
u?
maybe that's why u haven't gotten a decision back? i think for ea all materials have to be submitted by nov 1
yeah
i did it on nov 2nd, i think i now know why we haven't gotten our decision yet
Damn
The thing is though
My status changed to “reviewing you application” a few days ago
Your changed a month back right
Man it’s so annoying, I can’t even check on the application portal whether it’s early action or regular decision
oh yeah this part is super frustrating
bc i couldn't figure out if i applied rolling or early action
😭
yeah, it's annoying it took a month but i also applied pretty early. also a lot of smeal decisions came out this past week so i think that's why it took so long for me. you probably have a shot at getting ur decision today but not the other dude
When’d you apply
I applied on nov 1st
september 7th i think? i submitted the srar the next day bc i had it done for pitt already
Sept 7th💀
and i got my decision december 22nd so
Why so early lmao
Ohh
for pitt the earlier u submit the better shot u have at getting in/scholarship and penn state is also rolling so i thought its the same
i also wanted to have all my apps done by september but i have 9 rd supplementals to write this week so clearly that didn't work out
let’s see whether I get it today
they usually release in the morning and evening from what ive heard so gl!
Morning there in Pennsylvania, right
Evening is like morning for me here
yeah 2:07pm for me rn
Living in India rn
ahh it's like 12:37am there right
if you go to sleep by a normal time it should be out by the time u wake up
if it's coming out today
Yeah I guess
I just want to know whether my application is early action or not💀
Btw did you get an email
Exactly
they send mail but not till a weekish after
nope, i just didn't have the motivation for the essays
also im in state but they're more expensive than pitt so id probably go to pitt
Oh okay
Did you get your decision for Pitt yet
yes i applied aug 1 they responded aug 25
Oh congrats!!
still waiting on pitt
applied early/mid oct
kind of tilted i might just withdraw atp
not even interested anymore
alr made it to my instate school/a school in ny that gave me good scholarships
If you apply ea for Penn state, I doubt there is any advantage in terms of when you submit it
After Nov 1, it matters how soon you apply
Well Penn State admissions deadlines are a little weird
It is advertised "EA" but of course if you apply earlier like August then you will get a decision earlier
But after EA deadline it is pure rolling admissions
In terms of scholarships, Penn state is a big state school so of course they give out a ton of scholarships, they advise you go after external scholarships
But they have scholarships for people in need and high achievement, and iirc if you get into the honors college you get a very hefty scholarship
This is for deferred students
alr anti this
should my intended major still show undecided even though i got accepted for computer science?
I thing psu makes everyone go undecided first year for college of engineering
so then highest gpa gets cs?
I don't know
After a year, they will probably ask people to choose a concentration and that is when they will determine what engineering degree you can get
JUST ACCEPT ME FOR GODS SAKE
same situation huh?
maybe its cuz i did sat after the EA due date x-x
although i emailed them about that alr
For college of engineering, until you satisfy your major requirements, you're technically labeled a premajor (ENG_PMAJ)
Happy New Year!
bro
i sent my srar november last week
did you get a decision from penn state yet
No
Any advice on the penn state engineering scholarship application?
Just write then normally
The essays
For the essay about impactful activities on attending Penn state are you using the list of activities above?
Yeah, I haven’t done any visits or any of the activities they listed yet so I’m not really sure what to do
penn state has a really generic virtual tour on their website
you might have to use online resources and find videos and then come up with something
Thanks, I’ll check that out
This January 8th deadline is killing me 😭😭
Same
But I was able to recycle some supplementals
So it's a little better
For the prompt where it asks about the ec's that you do, I listed 5 but only talked about 1
Not sure if that's okay
Yeah idk, these prompts are kinda weird
I haven't received the Ea result yet. Should I be panicked?
ty
This feeling is so horrible istg
I found this video on yt that has a pretty nice walking tour if you're interested https://youtu.be/R81NaRZISTU?si=BJZ0qzDxu4D4lkFe
Take a virtual walk in 4K with us at Pennsylvania State University, Penn State, the largest public university in Pennsylvania. Let's check out the campus!
🎓
On this walking tour we'll show you Old Main, the Obelisk, University House, the Nittany Lion Shrine, Carnegie Building, Old Botany, 'We Are' Sculpture, Beaver Stadium, and more! You w...
Be aware though that I don't think it covers west campus, which was vastly different in 2021
But to those waiting for results, I'm seeing online there is some movement in admissions since the staff came back from winter break , so stay tuned 👀
we are penn state
has anyone got any decisions yet?
I got mine last month
I got my decision (deferred) like 2 weeks ago. I applied EA and submitted by app at the end of August
Not sure how reliable this information is but this is pretty surprising https://www.reddit.com/r/PennStateUniversity/s/kP9zUs3l9F
wtf
im lowkey surprised
Same
i literally submitted nov 1st
and my ACT came in after but before the grace period deadline
considering some people havent gotten their results since august
does penn state autoadmit at all
Mid october
I got in for engineering
Not sure how competitive it is at penn state
I'm going to assume it's decently competitive considering they are in the top 20 for engineering
Good luck to everyone who is waiting for decisions
if UP is 20%
id assume CoE admit rates at UP are probably 15ish%
sets up well for other schools personally
20% would mean extremely competitive school
More competitive than UT Austin and case western
If you include the satellites, then it would be more
I guess we can figure out once the common data set is released
Or if penn state says something
Penn state is under 20%?
Since when
I thought it was 50
Wait is UP is something different than regular Penn state
Does UP stand for the main campus
Are the branch campuses separate schools with different acceptance rates
@solemn fern
Hi! Penn state is one school but they collect statistics both on the overall application statistics and the individual statistics for each campus.
So Penn state University Park, the main campus, generally has a lower acceptance rate than the branch campuses
Are the campuses treated as separate institutions like the university of Maryland or California systems
No, they're the same institution, but branch campuses usually have a smaller offering of degrees, housing, etc than main campus
The entire Penn state
Says 51
But university park specifically says 92.3
branch campuses are way easier to get in than UP
I think there’s just something wrong w that result specifically
Makes sense
Guys I applied on Nov 1 and it’s always been “application being verified”
Today I logged in and saw this
What does this mean
Decisions soon??
How long for?
Mine said that almost immediately after I submitted my application on 10/31
Bruh what
I applied in on October 31st
And I just got it
damn
I got my decision on nov 30, so around a month after it said that for me
definetely not today
my decision took 1.5 to 2 months
Bro I’m getting Purdue before this shit
Smh
I’m withdrawing if Purdue takes me ngl
you're international right
penn state is backlogged
Yeh
they said they would have all ea decisions by december
I applied international but had to update to domestic after I got accepted
fair take
purdue is cheaper and better engineering school
assuming that you are doing engineering
Cheaper? Damn I didn’t know
Yeah!
Even Ohio state didn’t
purdue is somewhere around 40k
Respond yet
Penn state crazy
they havn't raised prices in over 10 years
Tf
penn state oos is probably around 55k
55 k is the price for international
53 k for oos
33 k for in state
satellite campuses are much cheaper compared to main campus
tf
anti this
That seems inaccurate, I don't think university park acceptance rate is nowhere near 90%
for this question can i just talk about one ec
From what I've seen I'm not surprised by this. Tons of 2+2 being offered
that is what I did
Whatever makes more sense for you, or you are able to give a good example for
Do all of people recieve money from this scholarship application
I think I saw something about 1/4 students
if i submitted my app after december 1 whats the likelihood of it coming out this month lmaoo
does penn notify on email when decisions are out??
They start sending out emails a week or two after you get accepted
No, the application especially for first year students is very competitive, and there are limited funds
Damn
I’m surprised they didn’t move the date back for the scholarship app
Some people who applied for engineering haven’t even heard back yet
i got admissions fairly early for some reason
Yeah same I got lucky and heard back on the 20th I think
if you dont mind what was your second choice
i asked if it mattered then and people said it didnt for oos but apparently not
Cs was my first and data science was second
campus sorry
Oh my bad, I think I just picked the next biggest one
Yeah
I did Harrisburg as my second choice
Altoona is cool in the sense that they have train engineering as a major
But I chose Harrisburg cause if I were to go to a smaller school, I would prefer to have it in a major city
literally just saw what branch campus was best for cs online
they said behrend and i was like
ok
Finally got accepted into penn state
Congrats
did they email u?
still waiting for mine😢
when did u apply
Congrats
Congrats!!
Just a taste of the snow in UP today
any notifications anyone??
nope
wt
wtf
why do u have a discord for penn state
no body likes penn state even
imagine being rejected from penn state
@solemn fern whats your major?

Mechanical engineering
youre instate right?
Yep, in state
Nice. That is what I applied for.
Neat! Best of luck on your acceptance 🫡
Thanks but I already got in
how long did it take you to get a decision?
I applied mid October and got a decision before December 15th
@solemn fern sorry for the @ but would I be able to ask you some questions 😭
Of course, that's what I'm here for!
No worries for the @ 🙂
Thank you 🫡
Were you in state or oos? And if oos what was the financial aid looking like
I am in state, I know for oos though the price is quite higher
Yeah that's my main worry
Besides the university wide ones did they offer you any scholarships?
I got one scholarship from the college of engineering, but it was after accepting my offer, and before I accepted I got a few financial need scholarships. Other scholarships I got were external
whats your opinion on the greek life?
I'm not involved in Greek life but it is definitely I think a unique experience, some of my friends are in Greek life and they seem to like it
Ah I see, I'm really racking my brain rn for options 😭
Completely understand, you still have some time though which is good
If you have any other questions lmk
I'd say maybe some other deciding factors could be the area around the university, the architecture, dorms, etc
Did you do university park all 4 years or 2+2?
I'm doing university park for all 4 yrs
2+2 will definitely save some money, which is good for oos, and it gives you an opportunity to be in a smaller setting before going to a huge uni
yo how did i get into this school
is smeal business school rlly 7% acceptance rate
i thought it was for the graduate school at first
I'm not sure but smeal is pretty competitive
For the common app question about my starting campus, is the decision final?
I don't know whether I should pick the campus closer to me right now, or the main campus
it would be best if I can make the deicision later
You should probably call the admissions office and ask
I don't think you can decide later
I feel like you can easily go from main campus to a satellite
The other way around, no so much because of the 2+2 option
you should pick the main campus as your first choice and the other campus as your alternate start
that way if you get into UP but dont want to go there you can easily switch to the other one
whoops. ill try to get it changed once I get my portal . . .
i got in!
@solemn fern I don't remember if it was you or someone else but I heard many PSU CS professors left and went to Georgia Tech? Is it true I heard it from someone
I'm not familiar with PSU cs and wouldn't be able to verify that, sorry
you got your rd decision back today?
oh wow congrats, whats your major?
Alright np
Comp engineering
Congrats
Guys I just got an email offering me the behrend honors program
Nice
psu just became my fav uni
Ayy congrats!
I applied december 1st when should I get my decision notification
I'm not sure, I think past the EA deadline the application is on rolling, so there's no hard date when you'll get a notification
Plus there have been some snow these past few days and the uni has had to close for a day, so the admissions office might be delayed
bro i literally applied in nov and still didnt get
its like that for a lot of people too
Yeah I think they're quite backed up, sorry about that
But trust you'll get your decision soon 🫡
Yessir i got in
lfg
no merit tho
i think they woulda said in the acceptence letter
how long did it take for u to get a decision?
submitted app dec 1st and got it tdy
also congrats!!!
got a response after being deferred, got in!
(Deferred around 12/18 or so, accepted today!) Application was sent in late August
if i submitted my application on dec 1st but my SRAR and LORs for the scholar's program at a later dater, am i still in the priority deadline?
....
i submitted mine november and still didnt get
tf
u in-state?
Im out of state lmao. maybe the reason is the college, I'm college of liberal arts.
im the same college
for econ
I got no clue y u havent heard back then. they did u dirty
Let's goo
yeah im not getting a decision till March at least
did anyone get inot the millenium scholar's program?
My friend got in
BRO
Hi, I just submitted to my application to penn state and was trying to fill the srar. I am international student following the a levels curriculum so I was struggling to fill the srar. Is there anyone who has done the srar as an a levels student and can help me out?
I would really appreciate it, thanks!
I haven't, but there are some examples on the admissions site
https://admissions.psu.edu/info/future/international/sample-international-srar/
This is amazing, thank you so much for the help!
NVM just got my decision
only took them a weekish . . .
maybe difference between in and out of state??
ru in or out?
i swear penn state has something aganist me
Same I submitted early December and still nothing
in state
if it helps, my application is very good
one rec is a pennstate alumni
my brother is also currently at pennstate
but that would mean they have to look at everyone's application first to see these factors . . .
unless its automated somehow
when did u apply
november gang
Nov 1
coe is like 10. smeal is the lowest (7)
do you know if it is difficult transferring into coe if you were admitted for another school/undecided?
i have no idea i’m in ecos
generally just complete all the etms for any major. that seems to be the biggest thing
i have heard transferring to coe specifically is quite tough
@turbid trellis were you in-state?
yeah
Any idea regarding this?
I don't know whether it's true or not
How hard is main campus smeal
Hey @cold moth are you in NROTC at Penn state
Huhh
are there still ppl who havent got their ea decision yet?
I think so
me
IM STILL WAITING
wait
YES
I GOT IN
ALL THAT WAITING WAS WORTH IT
Congrats

my friend got in aerospace whatchu need
just wanted to ask if one's opting for the LEAP summer program
from my major
Have they started giving out scholarships already ?
not yet
when does fin aid drop

s
Penn state returned my srar meaning they only just saw my application even tho I submitted in dec😭
ah.... 😭
What do you mean by returned your srar? Sorry I just sent my application so I have no idea what it means
They returned it back because they said I was missing my grades or it was inaccurate or something idek I emailed them cuz I entered everything in correctly
Oh okay, thank you
bruh
they ghosted me since nov
I got in!
major ?
cs
how long did it take to get a decision for you
applied dec 18, got it yesterday
thanks!!
i guess i wasnt looking in the right place i was admitted
they didnt send an email so i didnt know
how do i check if my application is complete?
go on to the psu applicant portal and scroll down to see if any material is missing or awaiting
i got in computer engineering in university park
is there any ways to get into harrisburg?
just out of curiosity if youre cs at psu up why would you want to go to a satellite campus
fr
Location maybe
If you are instate and want to stay nearby home, it makes sense
Or if you don't want to go to a huge campus right away
Satellite campuses are cheaper as well
fair enough
i wonder r there official gc for admitted students?
hopefully
econ is good for penn state right?
There is an official Penn state discord, I think u can find the link thru the PSU subreddit
bet
wait i cant access the email
Dang yeah I think you need to have email access before you access the server
yo if i ever decide to go here, how can i do double major if it wasnt offered on common app (online, people recommend double major with econ)
bruh i applied in like Janurary
check psu portal
they dont send notifications for it
been checking still nothing, bad signs :((
I wouldn’t worry abt it, I have a friend who applied EA but didn’t get his decision till last week, and he got in
yeah penn state is wilding this year
GOT ACCEPTED!!!
2+2 BEHREND AND UNIVERSITY PARK🥳🥳🥳
lowkey crazy how psu went from 28th to not even a t40 for cs 😭
How generous are they with scholarships for oos here
Cause that 50k a year is looking like a lot
There are no scholarships for international students right?
there are. the scholarship application form for international students was released in december
last date to submit was jan 31st
according to what source
lol what 💀 i called their office last month and they told me they dont offer any scholarships to intls
apparently econ is 41st here
Got into penn state university park!!!
gg
does psu mail merch to accepted students ?
not to internationals
not even stickers🥲
They send stickers
To people in the US
I got 2+2ed, but then I got reconsidered for main campus, so I got two sets of stickers
So if u want more stickers, get reconsidered
How did u end up getting reconsidered? Did u appeal for it or did they just do it by themselves?
I emailed them a while ago after I got 2+2ed and asked. I originally applied for engineering which is more competitive, so I asked to be reconsidered for undecided
Ok
im trying to do something similar right now.
want to go from 2+2 to just 4 years at main
this conversion will obviously be much harder as it is a upgrade, not a dowgrade
u got capped?
did you opt in to the summer semester while applying
Don't sleep on Penn state 😤https://www.forbes.com/sites/michaeltnietzel/2024/02/13/penn-state-and-georgetown-lead-the-nation-for-fulbright-scholars-and-students-this-year/amp/
Did that work? Same thing happened to my friend who applied engineering, he got waitlisted and is considering re applying undecided (idk if that’s even a thing your allowed to do I’m just the messenger)
yea but i did it a lot earlier, like the first week of january. i guess you could do it now but its kinda late. i think when you ask to be reconsidered, they just move you to regular decision. so it might be too late now
I don't know what that means but I didn't apply for main the first time.
I applied to a satellite campus, got accepted to that, but now I want to go to main.
how long did it take all of u to get a decision?
i applied ~jan 2nd but still havent gotten anything
I applied satellite and got my decision in a week
heard main campus takes months tho
aw shoot ok thanks
np
what's the procedure to join the leap program for an admitted student
to join that do i need to commit to penn state?
Yes, since the LEAP program is essentially just starting college a little earlier in the summer to get a head start
Anyone have any questions about Penn state in general, like campus life, dorms, food, downtown, classes, etc?
how many classes can you take max in the leap program
the email they sent me says 2 summer programs
I am not sure, you'll have to see the specifics of LEAP. I think since it is supposed to be a transition from hs to college, you will probably take like maybe 2-3 classes
any estimates on when merit scholarships come out? (im eberly if that matters)
Depends, at least in the college of engineering I got most of my engineering scholarship after I committed
dang ok
does provosts and stuff at least come out before committing? im factoring cost into my decision so it would kind of suck to not know how much im gonna pay
Hi!
I actually need some help regarding the Penn State campuses so if any current students or someone who has an idea about their campuses, could help it would be great.
So I have been accepted to the 2+2 programme at Penn State. They are offering me the first 2 years at Behrend(Erie) and the last 2 years at university park. I like their offer but I do not want to go to Erie because it is extremely secluded. My parents are not comfortable with me going to Erie either. I don't like Harrisburg because I know someone living there and again it is a very small town. And another problem with Harrisburg is that they want me to finish my degree there itself. I don't want that, I definitely want to be at the main campus for atleast 2 years. So I'm going to request a campus change. I want help with selecting a campus.
I'm looking for a campus which is in a good city, like it has a lively atmosphere and a good community.
If someone could please help me with this. I'm really struggling with Penn State and I really want to go
the thing is most of the penn state satellite campuses are small and in small areas
harrisburg is an exception as it is a major city in the state
berks may be a campus to look into
its an hour outside of philly
altoona is close to university park
abington and brandywine are closer to philly
scranton and lehigh valley are also decent regions to be in
I agree but while all of their campuses are great there is nothing in the city apart from the university. I currently live in a city and it will be very hard for me to adjust to such a small place without my family. So I was hoping that at least one of their campuses would be in a city. But I guess that's not the case. So do you think Penn State is not the right choice for me? Because I have gotten other acceptances too
If you really want a city or a place with a lot of people, either contact penn state and ask to be reconsidered for university park for 4 years or consider other options
Alright, thanks for your suggestion!
I wouldn't know, unfortunately. You could try asking the financial aid/admissions office
finally got my offer
Congratulations!
when did u apply?
our cs department is a dumpster fire
lol
you get a single sticker iirc
how is econ and math departments
thats my career focuses
really good. you should major math and then add econ later
Lol ok
I remember getting a small sheet
It had a few stickers
I guess they probably changed stuff from the past and this year
im doing the opposite actually
oh
hopefully theres no issue with that
early december
nah. the econ department is great
yoo can i dm you about that
not sure atm if i wanna attend psu cs cuz i keep seeing mixed reviews online 😭
yes
fr
I would remember that penn state is such a big school and you might be seeing 10 kids who left because they didnt like it but then theres thousands who love it. That really goes for any school, every school has its faults but there are tons of students who love their schools for their own reasons
!uiuc
Guys what is the UNI for Finance after Univeristy Park because my friend wants to decide as he got a 2+2 offer
Has anyone gotten any scholarships besides the discover award
i NEED schreyers
penn state has pushed back their decision date too
“Penn State will extend its offer acceptance deadline from May 1 to May 15, 2024, for incoming first-year students enrolling in the summer or fall 2024 terms.
The extension comes after the U.S. Department of Education announced that colleges and universities will receive 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) data from applicants in the first half of March. This delay will ultimately result in students receiving their financial aid offers from the University later than usual this year.”
as someone who lives in pa and in the same town as one of the commonwealth campuses… if you’re from out of state, the 2+2 program is a waste of money. you’re paying almost the same amount in tuition to go to a campus in the middle of nowhere as you would to go to university park, and some of the commonwealth campuses don’t even have on campus housing
Noted
you can choose any campus for 2+2 but all of them are in very suburban/rural areas so there won’t be nearly as much to do as opposed to a regular college
yea do not do 2+2!!!
just go to ur other state school unless u live in wyoming or something
do you enter Penn state with a major or no
Depends. For the college of engineering, which I have the most knowledge about, you get accepted as an engineering premajor, and then once you complete your required courses and get above the required gpa within a credit window, you can then officially declare your major
oh okay thanks
No problem!
.
schreyers day!
When we thinking? 3:00?
3:30
I got this "I am pleased to offer you admission to the College of Engineering with the intended major of Computer Science "
what does this mean Directly admitted to CS?
there’s no direct admit for engineering iirc
schreyer reject💯
wtf do you mean only 300 freshmen get in per year you have almost 10,000 current freshmen enrolled
i dont even see my decision
wdym
click on the link they sent in that decision date email
3:30pm?
Well I didnt see it lol
got accepted for engineering at university park (international student)
true! you hear about the kids who leave but not the ones who stay
most majors you need to satisfy ETM requirements
which can be really little (like for math) or attrociously bad (like finance)
it actually is 300 lol not many kids do schreyer
i’m well aware, i was reading from my rejection letter
