Where did u commit to instead
just saying
i called stanford for unrelated matters (my counsellor wanted to send something, couldn’t find the email) but then i ended up asking about the waitlist anyways
the person on the line said they will be moving to accept a few people this year and notice will be sent somewhat soon so she encouraged me to get my school to step on it
good luck to everyone else on the waitlist!! hope something awesome ends up happening :)
on a side note they were so nice and helpful so big up the trees
williams 💜 💛
based
cool, what could the school counselor send during the waitlist process?
contextual information about my home life that i was scared neglected to mention
it’s not too serious or anything but still important
either way the process is so competitive tbf
Step on it how
send it quick! which has now been done
but it appears they still haven't really taken anyone so
maybe they're doing it next saturday
The loci?
nope, additional info from my counselor
What additional info?
^
I just received an email that there was an update to my Stanford portal but I don’t have access to a computer to check it for ~5 hours 😭
If I hadn’t received any emails or phone calls from them, it is likely a rejection, correct?
omg 😭 what did it end up being?? when you get time
i’m so scared aaargh they’ve never done fridays before for wl decisions what the heck
I still am unable to check.
nw lemme know when you're able
the stress is building 💀
good luck for it
any news? @wanton vigil idk how the stanford wl process works regarding communications
what day is it usually
i thought it was thursdays usually
someone on reddit said they got off
I logged into the portal and didn’t see any update there. I’m probably going to calll them today to ask
oh wow that’s weird
what was the body of the email like? please could you sc if you don’t mind, feel free to redact info or just quote the wording
hopefully it’s good news
It just basically said there was an update to my Stanford application portal. I just called them and they said that no updates were made on my application and they aren't sure what caused that.
It's kind of disappointing because I had gotten so excited about seeing an update since I thought Stanford wouldn't be sending out rejections this early and it was my first choice of the schools I haven't been rejected from.
I hope it means something, but IDK.
damn that's strange
either way i guess we'll find out in the coming week or two
most stanford wl stuff comes out around mid-may
Yep, it’s kind of irritating but I’ll forgive it if they admit me 😂
you guys think theres a consistent pattern to the wl?
or is it just random
or is like
weve already been missed out on the first couple waves
pretty sure there was only 1 that happened so far
maybe it’s rolling
Is it possible to get off the waitlist if you aren't legacy and are super overrepresented in STEM(Asian male)?
Someone on A2C got off the Stanford waitlist at around the same time/date as I received an email saying my application had an update when it didn’t.
Maybe they misclicked me and then corrected their mistake lol
the person on a2c who got off stanford waitlist is a questbridge finalist, maybe they’re looking for urm or low income
today?
Just wondering, is she legacy or URM?
yesterday
Under represented minority
Or legacy.
legacy.
i saw someone else got off 9 hours ago on A2C, they had MET and regents at cal
admissions between schools are completely unrelated it’s definitely possible
very true i got into stanford rd having spent a singular day on the application and rejected by harvard when i literally put in sm effort
admissions r low key random af sometimes
because of institutional priorities and randomness with regional AOs
i think people overestimate how much is in their control
LITERALLY ME
spent weeks curating my yale app and those essays were legit the best things i've ever written
just to be deferred then rejected
dream school of a decade down the drain LMAO
awww :((
my dream school was williams and i got in ahaha
the only school id have picked over it was harvard
but stanny pulled thru after my minimal effort
i felt like i only got into schools that i put medium effort into and the schools i worked my butt off for i didn't get into
how many did u apply to?
that's so hype
those r the only four i liked 😭
that's completely valid
i was so picky and such a procrastinator that i narrowed my list from 16 to 4 cos i was running out of time
HAHA i was too
but hey it worked i got a big scholarship from richmond and stanford and williams
SICK
no yeah i was a procrastinator and a perfectionist
i prollly submitted half of my apps two hours before the deadline
this entire admissions szn was so bad
no legit same
i took off of school to write my apps in one day
it def was not waht i was expecting
like i think i thought that if i put my best foot forward i would get in but clearly not the case
i applied to miami u in oh, osu, michigan, emory, northeastern, gtown, northwestern, duke, vandy, yale, harvard, mit, stanford, and upenn
dont beat urself up about it i have a friend whos absolutely cracked talking like national merit scholar and started a million dollar company and runs nonprofits and she got rejected from stanford and accepted to harvard
no yeah fs but it just broke my expectations sm
and here i am with my unimpressive resume getting accepted to stanford 🤷
SAME LMAO
yeah same i actually thought i was getting into harvard :/
HAHAH no i thought i had a chance at harvard bc i loved my essays but i think i flopped my interview
thats the only reaction vid my mom filmed too T_T
you got an INTERVIEW??
so jealous no one interviewed me anywhere 😭
and then one of my friends from my area (different interviewer) got a 2nd AO interview and i knew i was a goner
wOw
prolly just geographic problems! i got interviews at every school that gave them except stanford and vandy
both of which i got into
which makes me think im just a horrid interviewee
ive heard they only give interviews to ppl theyre on the fence abt 🤷
so maybe i was just a flat out reject
and u were just GOAT-ed for stanford hahaha
HAHAH NAH don't sell yourself short you had amazing acceptances
nah this was so random
one day i'm being waitlisted at emory and the next i'm getting into stanford and penn (and i LOVED MY EMORY ESSAYS)
WOOOOOO CONGRATS
id like to think it was my decline of admissions offer from stanford that made this possible 😌
jkjk
well i did decline so maybe
I don't think that's true as I didn't get an interview but got waitlisted.
well idk if they were on the fence abt u, there prolly just wasnt enough space
if ur waitlisted they want u
otherwise they woulda rejected u
i got an interview and got rejected lol
Well, from what I read, a waitlist typically means a 50-50 vote on the committee, suggesting they are 'on the fence'
I really wish I had an interview because there were things I wanted to mention I didn't have space to on the application. It's even worse since I got waitlisted, which will leave the question of if a really good interview could have 'moved the needle'
idk man i think ull end up where ur meant to be, and if not, transfer
upenn is a great school anyhow
congrats ! when did you get off?
yooo congrats!!
is it worth sending in one last update if something really significant has happened?
like i’ve sent a lot of updates like two or three but each time legit genuinely important stuff has happened
ik atp it prolly won’t make a difference but yuhhh
can’t hurt ig
uhhh i think the waitlist came out for stanford already so atp its a lost cause
but go for it if u want??
What do you think would constitute really significant?
last time i got invited to represent a big philanthropic org by speaking at an international conference in front of leaders in industry, tech, and government in june
this is at a similar level to that
as in that was what i put on the last update form
is this legit?
Prob not
I mean, Stanford does have an extended waitlist that they give some people, so everyone is not necessarily rejected per se(although the extended waitlist is typically a rejection because not many people will decline Stanford after getting off a waitlist elsewhere).
man yall are crazy pessimistic
have some faith
we aint rejected yet thats all it matters
also you going to upenn thats crazy
best school i got into was ucsd
I mean, a kid from my school just got off the waitlist(earlier today) and he lied on most of his application(he brags about this and people think he's cool for doing it), so there's that lol.
He has already committed to Stanford now. It's very unfair.
nobody at my school or my city has gotten off yet
or not that i know of
broski maybe it snot like
"oh we missed the first wave were done GG"
maybe the adcom just does things differently man
as long as you aint rejected you still considered
and what is "unfair" man
you going to upenn
how is that anyhow unfair
He lied on nearly all of his applications and got in. He made up extracurriculars and awards that didn't exist, etc. He even talked about 'hardships' such as abuse in his common app that never happened.
Respect
someday
itll ctach up to the brother
like success isnt just getting to stanford
if someone thinks that lying can get them to stanford and they do get in
thats far worse for their character
Where did u commit to
theyre gonna go through life thinking thats the case or whatever and itll bite them in the ass later
id argue that someone who lied getting into stanford is far worse than someone who didnt lie and went to a state univeristy
I mean, will it? Doesn't Stanford have significant grade inflation; it's not like he lied and got into Caltech or something?
one would be inspired to work harder one would be convinced lying gets then somewhere
ucsd
for sure man
Guys it sucks but people cheat and that will prob help them. It’s the real world and it sucks but it’s true
think about life past college
brother in job
brother in marriage
brother in relationships
lying and cheating eventually is revelead
in the long run
just statistically impossible to do it for a long peroid of itme
Alright, sure. But, all he has to do is stop lying and cheating now while he's ahead.
Exactly
people change that easily
It’s lowkey smart to cheat ngl
Yeah but they expect high school kids to make 3 startups and non profits and published research Tf
It’s ridiculous
Yes, but people lying or exaggerating about what they did only makes the problem worse as it raises the standards, and now people feel they have to do even more to catch up, leading to more lying, etc. It's just a positive feedback loop.
i get what you sayin
but at the end of the day
you juts gotta improve yourself
the system is flawed but if you stoop down to the level of cheating and lying
youre not being true to yourself
and tahts far more important than some bumass college acceptance
Yeah, I agree with your point; I just hate how people can get away with doing things like that.
and i do truly believe that at the end of the day
pepole get what they deserve
like for me
i got no nonprofits
no startups
no awards
noolympiads
no prestigoius research programs
no hooks
and somehow i still wl for stanford
theres gotta be something in the world that says yeah you can make it by being hones tand working hard instead of being a lying cheating scumbag
That’s life
It makes me question why I treated this process with integrity(I even sent Stanford an update when my hours, for one thing, decreased from 16->12hrs/wk, although that's perhaps an example of stupidity and not integrity).
gl boys
how’d u find out
I’m p sure they email u or j check portal gl
I think what happens is you get an emails saying your portal had an update clicking on the update in the portal will show the letter(acceptance, rejection, or extended waitlist)
Interestingly, I have gotten that email twice now only to have NO update on my portal. I called them, and they have no clue what's going on.
amen respect to the attitude
bruh
i got into stanford and did none of this :/
honestly i think it depends on ur background and how much u utilized what resources u had in ur school and community
i probably wouldnt have gotten in had i lived in northern va instead of southern va and done the same ecs as i did
no literally same
there's another kid in my distrct that got into stanny and is going w me and he's legit one of the most insane ppl i've ever met, but his hs (despite being in the same school district as mine) is very competitive
i don't think i would've gotten in had i went to his hs instead of mine
it's honestly scary how insane he is, like so much so that people don't believe that i could be going to the same college as that guy 😭
it is your character and background maybe?
o
what
has stanford taken any intls off the waitlist yet? or just domestic
i think i saw an intl get off in wave 1 on college confidential
Congrats! If you don't mind sharing, was your counselor contacted prior to your acceptance about your 2nd-semester grades?
Princeton, uva, UMich, umd, unc
Just early apps
Historically, rejections or invitations to the extended waitlist are sent out to waitlisted students this Thursday(the 25th), right?
I think they're done sending out acceptances from now until the 25th though.
Did acceptances roll out after the 25th too in the past
Or is it pretty much done at this point
there are people getting off as late as june or july from last year and the years before
i think were fine guys
Yeah, but I think those people were on the extended waitlist(10% of waitlisted students). I’m pretty sure rejections and extended waitlist offers will come out in the 25th
stanford cs would've been tough 🤷♂️
Damn
m&t is arguable better bro 😭
Well, it could be way longer(months) if you get put on the extended waitlist 😭 . I've already given up as I screwed up my second-semester grades(got one B) which they will probably require for the waitlist.
😭😭 that would be torture and most likely a super uber deluxe rejection fr
but it’s gonna be exciting/cathartic to hear the outcome anyways
Yeah. Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone will get an acceptance today but only a rejection or extended waitlist(or maybe they might not even release anything lol), so it isn’t really that exciting.
what time did the rejections/extended WL come last year? (pst)
i feel like getting one b is def not screwing up 💀
i got a few b's on my transcript and got in rd
Yeah, but I had a 4.0 previously so they'd be expecting me to maintain my prior performance on the waitlist (plus I'm an unhooked Asian male)
was the update not rn?
i got nothing
did you get something?
same but like i promise u its nothing to freak out about
as long as its not multiple bs
and as long as u dont get a c
or lower
it wont impact the decision
I thought it was today, but I guess not
nope

yall think it comes out today?
The office is closed so probably not but who knows atp
dont think it works like that
just cause the calling offices are closed doesnt mean their entire office is closed
aos wouldnt get paid to work 2/7 days of the week
ight
