Does anyone know the right place to ask about making a free mod from scratch using the fallout IP for another game?
Hi everyone. Im trying to put together a playerhome mod for starfield. Except the playerhome exists within the landscape and isn't an instanced interior. No matter what trouble shooting/tutorials I complete, I cannot Sleep/wait/decorate the location as it is tagged as restricted. and I cannot for the life of me, figure out why. would anyone have any insight?
I’m by no means an expert in cell building by it sounds like your location is off. It needs its own location set in order to make it convert into a player home. Either that or you picked a cell that has a keyword attached that prevents building. Like a poi or some location that an encounter exists.
You can drag an outpost beacon and hid it in cell to test. If in game it lets you build or claim as outpost then it’s your location. If it doesn’t then it’s the cell itself. Atleast when I came across this issue prior this is how i workshopped it.
I never mod for Bethesda games but I mod for UE games. You are trying to place in a persistent level and that not gonna run. As GamerRoundup206 says, is just the wrong layer. Test in other layer-level that let you build there.
So are they making some kind of reward system like idk as an example, discord nitro or perks? It just seems that way based off the latest news

Like for example a weapon that breaks overtime like fo3?.
Something like that was mentioned but I don’t think it would be possible for starfield would it?.
Not as much possibly on console, but if you're on PC, nexus mods has an armor and weapon condition mod where the weapon can jam.
The alternative that I've seen available on Bethesda net is less advanced and rather than the chance of jams, you weapon may have bullets detonated in your chamber which degrade your weapon more
The issue with the console mod is that it was also last updated in 2018...

Visible holstered weapons and backpacks always visible. The first mod is in case you also want your back holstered weapon to show up too

At this point I'm thinking about not buying Bethesda games anymore because we get the lesser version. The only way I buy SF on PS5 is if the mods aren't limited. Its its limited like Skyrim and FO4 then its a pass.

No free ones with external assets though (yet) so it looks like at least for now its just verified creator (paid) ones.

Bethesda announced they’re beta testing external asset mods in skyrim ps5 late last year starting with verified creators. No ETA when itll go public but implied that it will come eventually
The ability to save multiple different mod-list instances under one profile, in the creations menu would be nice.

I have a CK problem. I cannot see the windows for QUST editing and now I cant seem to see the script window either. THis has been an issue for a few months for me but cannot find any info on how to fix this. I tried clean installas of both game and CK, but no luck. CK says the windows are open but I do not see them.

Well, I don't have Starfield, so all I can do is guess: I'd try seeing if you can change the window position offsets for the quest/etc windows if for some reason they are open but with positions that put them off-screen, to try and put them back into the visual area. Presumably the relevant settings would be in one of the ini files in the CK's main directory; according to a google search one of them might be "QtCreationKitSavedSettings.ini".
Another thought is they could perhaps be behind one of the other windows, as I had an issue with that once or twice in the Skyrim CK long ago, so you could try manually moving around the windows you do see and see if you can spot the others behind them then move them back into where you want them to be.

I love this feature of the paradox launcher for Crusader Kings for instance. Having a vanilla list, Elder Kings, ect. Is great and wish more games had that.

Hello, I have a recurring crash in Skyrim AE. I only use Verified Creations and crashed in Helgen in the torture room. Then I started completely without creations and after Helgen turned the creations on, then at some point crashed in the Embershard Mine during the final fight. The crash log always says a problem with bsxaudio 2, I already tried without sonic studio, sometimes without headphones, checking directx or drivers, no idea, could it be some plugin, I am clueless xd

Could I get help with my load order I’m on ps5 and I think I did a pretty good job with my list but my safe file got corrupted and caused a whole host of issues when all I ever did was disable some cosmetic mods a few times so idk if it’s my load order mistake or what but I have to start from scratch now and I’d like help adding quite a few more mods than my first playthrough

From the sound of it there's a chance it may be an internet/ISP issue so you may want to try and see if you can log in using a VPN.
I cant use vpn on ps5 I even contacted my Internet provider we were stuck on a call for 2 hours with no luck
Hmm. What an odd design flaw for them to not include native VPN support. Well, you might be able to work around that by either configuring a connection through a VPN via your router (assuming this wasn't attempted in the aforementioned call) and/or attempting an alternate connection such as using a smartphone by having your PS5 connect to the internet via said device.
I can only log in when I stream the game using psn but I won't save the game data I tried everything I could think of

If you mean the router, you'd want to refer to its device documentation; looking it up via its serial number(s) on the back of it will usually find the right documents. For the mobile device option, you'd want to look into how to enable using it as a wifi hotspot that your PS5 can then connect to.
The only time it works is when im streaming the game through psn

That is likely from using their network to connect; it'd be the same as using a VPN.
And how to fix it
You seem to either have your ISP filtering out the website, an intermediary in your normal connection route filtering it, or perhaps Bethesda's own service is the one filtering your connection - perhaps due to some sort of regional blocking. You could try contacting Bethesda's customer support for the latter, and attempt to use alternate connection methods as noted above for the former.
How would I even contact them i tried through the website and we'll no luck at all ,all that happened is i got a head ache and lost a few hours this is my 4th day trying anything to fix it.
And the main problem is even if I use a vpn as soon as its off the data will not work same as streaming data😔
it's really hard to diagnose problems like "no luck at all". If you gave specifics, it would be easier for people to help you.

I’ve been trying to use Creation Kit to make a custom Argonian character model but as a “fat corrupt/greedy noble”, I tried googling how to “edit models” and found something called “Body Slide” on Nexus and YouTube. But I can’t seem to figure out how to transfer the character model to Body Slide.

Fallout 3 is OBScript, Fallout 4 is Papyrus

This is what a non-fragment script would look like for this assuming you have linked a reference to the terminal in the render window. Fragment scripts are normal scripts except that the CK UI tries to hide as much of the full script from you as possible.
So if you insist on using a fragment script instead of a full normal script then you would paste something like this into the fragment window.

The main issue is that your linkedRef variable is not defined as a variable, and it must be. You must declare a variable with it's type and identifier name like <type> <identifier>, or ObjectReference linkedRef in your case.
It might also be SetOpen instead on Activate but I cant remember how that works for non-teleport doors.

The GetLinkedRef() function also might fail if the terminal has more than one linked reference. If the terminal has more than one linked reference then you have to use Keyword to disambiguate them.

Papyrus is an object-oriented scripting language developed by Bethesda Softworks for use in the Creation Engine.
That one is run by KateAces and is good and trusted. It is a copy of the original official wikis which are now gone. UESP also hosts the clones of the original wikis and I recomend these too because they have ALL the old official wikis, not just Fallout 4. It is often valuable to cross reference a topic between each game, especially between Skyrim and Fallout 4.
It sucks because when the official wikis were taken offline they were cloned by a few communities to carry on, which is good in itself, but now each has grown in its own direction. So there will be new notes and contributions that are on one wiki and not the other.
This is the closest thing to a written tutorial and was written by Bethesda for Skyrim. The scripting topics between Fallout 4 and Skyrim are mostly interchangable. https://ck.uesp.net/wiki/Category:Tutorials

I was gonna do a no mod vanilla run but i miss the habs, so if its achievement friendly it will be the only exception unless i pair it with PDY and the patch. Because of the way script events work, chances are that the object has already done (or ignored) its default activation processing by the time the script receives the event, so calling BlockActivation() on the object in the OnActivate block will not affect the current activation.

Hello! I am working on a mod for Starfield and I ran into this issue with a custom helmet. When I sit in a pilot seat the helmet is still visible in the first person view. I believe I found a work around using xEdit but I would like to see if there are any solutions using creation kit.
Mod Request: Simple Standalone Wigs (Starfield— Xbox Series X)
Basically, I’m looking for a mod that adds hair as headwear/hats.
There’s a "Disguises" mod that does this, but the colors are random and change every time you put them on, which is annoying.
I just want simple wigs that stay one color—
like a black, brown or blonde wig item that stays one color. No fancy scripts or faction stuff needed
just hair models moved to the apparel slot so I can swap looks without going to an "Enhance!" clinic every time.

@blissful oriole Unsure how to contact you other than through here but your new mod called "NPC Health Overhaul" has a bug. I have no DLC's to be clear but I try to install it and I get the "This Creation cannot be enabled since it depends on files that aren't present." I was wondering if you could fix that. I also on the Bethesda website go see what it needs and it doesn't show me.

With the amount of mods available for the games, there's no way anyone can write a definitive load order guide.
There are also some mod conflicts that cannot simply be resolved by reordering, a dedicated patch is needed
Hi i do not know if here is the right place to ask so i just need a very simple retexture for a armor mod that already exist for starfield as i want to add a rugged, weathered red 'X' to a Mimban helmet mod. i use MO2/Genesis pack.
I uninstalled starfield cuz i cant for the life of me figure ts out, sometimes when i launch and play its perfectly fine no problems at all then sometimes its no sound. Other times its certain textures missing like me being a floating torso or some walls in akila missing. Usually restarting the game works but like does anyone know why? Idk if its mods that got broken after the freelanes update or what cuz holy man its ridiculous
Honestly just uninstall / reinstall and run it clean without mods to figure out what's wrong
Also when you uninstall (If you're on PC) there's sometimes files from mods that end up remaining and you need to manually delete them before you reinstall

In Creation Kit for Skyrim SE.. How exactly does Extensions > Import Topics/Dialogue work?
can i really just import all my dialogue from a text file?
Oh? I thought it all got stored under the data section? I have uninstalled and re installed after clearing data before with a brand new game and it started fine then it randomly say all my creations just uninstalled themself or ill download a creation and it will just loop "oh this save needs (insert mod name)" and ill click download and ittl just loop for ever
Then ofc followed by missing textures npcs being just neck and head no sound etc
Whenever I run into any issues from over modding and I wanna do a scrub of Starfield completely, I delete the creations from within the game load order menu, then exit game, uninstall game & creation kit completely on steam then I look for the following 4 folders and delete them as well:
- Documents > My Games > Starfield
- steamapps > common > Starfield
- Appdata > Local > Starfield
- Appdata > Local > Temp > Starfield
Then restart PC, reinstall a fresh copy of the game and go from there
This is ofc what I do and I'm merely suggesting it as an option for your troubleshooting journey - Hope it helps friend 🙂

As far as mods randomly uninstalling no, unless you're using a mod manager to handle it then it may have something to do with that potentially
I only use the ingame creations tab
If you're only using the in game creations tab then we're pretty much in the same boat
So it shouldn't uninstall on its own afaik and have experienced

With mods I also always keep an eye on the Plugins.txt file after I install a new mod
Found: Appdata > Local > Starfield
It will show you the current load order as per what you've set in game and if the mod is set to active in game you'll also see an * next to the mod name
Not sure if you already know this but figured I'd tell ya anyway
Don't edit this txt file as it is automatically managed and updated by the game

Mod organizers do the load orders automatically. If it doesn't work for you then you have likely too many mods. There are mod collections out there btw with premade everything, sometimes paid or not. My advice is to either follow one such or just use automatic load order or just don't mess with it. Figuring out proper load order for big mod lists isn't a trivial task
Mods can be incompatible etc so that's another issue and changing their order won't help you

For selfmade potions CACO uses template: <Strength> Potion of <Effect>
I have <Effect> localized, but "<Strength> Potion of" still in English
Cannot find these strings using SSEEdit
Default Skyrim.esm has GameSetting - sCreatedPotionNamePrefix but CACO hasn't so it renames potions some other way
By chance can anyone help?
The sound one is an easy fix, quit if it loads straight into the menu. For me, the sound works fine if i make sure the game goes through the loading screen, intro screen (where you click start). If i open and it loads straight into the main menu the sound never works

anyone know how to make a NIF mesh visible through walls and other solid objects in Nifskope? Similar to the effect shader flag "Greater or Equal To" Z Test function, but for the mesh itself? I think it has something to do with NiStencilProperty?
That's the whole problem, the game facegen is used instead of realtime generation, and there is an error in the game code, the alpha channel is taken into account. Solution.. install replace mod npc's.

Yo so what if i don't want a certain mod in my collection from Nexus mods i have downloaded can i disable it because Sim Settlements i think adds buildings to settlements but i want to use a mod that cleans those places up and fixes the buildings it adds it's own buildings to those settlements and makes all nice and fresh it's a storywealth collection i am using and am using the game version before the next gen

Skyrim is a good option as it is "easier", in that the engine has changed much since then and making mods has gotten more involved, so Skyrim as a starting point means a lower barrier for entry given its age and community around it, so lots of support too. If your ultimate goal is to make mods for TES6, then getting familiar with the newest version of the engine would be important since many if not most all the features will directly carry over to the next game, so dipping your feet into Starfield would be benefitial long term.

Imma take a moment before thinking if a debate with a mod would go well
Any obvious reason why a new nif and new material wouldn't show up in the game (Starfield) even though it appears to be working fine in both the creation kit and Nifskope? Tried running the mod as esp and esm (removing one before trying the other).
The first thing I'd do is make sure it's packed in an archive via the CK. I've never been able to get meshes or materials to load as loose files from the Data folder.
Any other reasons would likely be unique to the model type (placeable outpost items have some restrictions on what data their .nifs must contain, armors have to be weighted properly to appear, etc.)
Thanks for the reply. I've tried the archiving with CK, and ran with the esm loaded (removed the esp), no joy. It's an armor (arma) and I double checked the weighting and it all seems legit.
Gotcha. Unfortunately I don't know enough about setting up armors to have an idea of common pitfalls there. I'd probably try the .nif with a vanilla material, and putting the custom material on a vanilla .nif - just to narrow it down to one or the other, but I'm not sure if doing this would lead to any actionable information.

Man I was hoping for Hotm or the kinggath creation since I know both went to QA at the beginning of the month but it looks like skyrim is a no show this week for creations
Just for an information share: I tried the material on the vanilla version of the nif and it didn't show up in the game, but was fine in the CK, so I am guessing I must have done something wrong with the material. I created it in the material editor by duplicating the existing one and renaming (and assigning a new form ID).
Duplicating materials is way easier than creating them from scratch, but the parentage system definitely associates a lot of baggage with them that I don't even understand. The CK is also extremely sensitive to changes to the material file and also does sometimes randomly break them as you work on them. Either way, glad the test revealed something to work with.

I edit that file all the time, especially right after Vortex finished deploying all the new mods I installed. I just create a backup every time I do in case things go south.
Managing load order thru Vortex is slow af, so directly editing plugins.txt with Notepad++ is far quicker for me

@tranquil thicket think there might be an issue with the Latest All trilogy lightsabers mod on xbox I downloaded the update on Xbox and it said, that it wasn’t downloading properly.
I have managed to get the lightsaber from the crate in lodge basement by deleting mod and loading a save game with current load order saving and restarting and downloading mod again and then when it prompts to use current load order selecting that option.
the issues I have are that there is no sound whatsoever with the lightsaber from the crate and then when I have gone to the craft station and learnt the “padawan, knight and master” lightsaber similar to before there are no lightsabers appearing in the industrial work bench to create.
as it states it WIP I’m not sure if this is a bug or it’s the current state of the mod. so I’m sorry if this is the case I’m just not sure so I thought I’d report it.
Skyrim (Legendary Edition)'s and Fallout: New Vegas's.
Instead of installing into the Fallout New Vegas folder it was installed into falloutnv 22480 and similarly Skyrim's was installed into skyrim 202480.
Just a breakthrough share: I was aable to "fix" my problem by archiving the textures, material and nif files (.ba2). It all worked after that. I wasn't aware you had to do that (must have missed that part of the tutorial 🙂 )

It's hard to get a hold of a lot of Morrowind and Oblivion modders. I tried finding Rhedd and Allerleirauh recently, who were behind the super popular Morrowind mod "Rhedd's Heads." The painful part is having to do all the translations and transitions within nifskope, and lots of trial and error, but when I got my first ever one working from scratch I nearly fell out of my chair in excitement. It was a pure nerd moment. Bethesda probably has proprietary tools in their pipeline that makes it a breeze for them compared to this..

There's next to zero documentation of VFX nifs, so I had to resort to spending weeks picking apart their branches in nifskope and putting them back together, learning how each component controlled another and vice versa. It was a frustrating, fun, and rewarding experience for me. Hoping to find time to write a proper guide on VFX making from scratch without relying on premade Bethesda nifs.

especially with you folks, you've always had a penchant for using mods to gauge community interest in certain features- no doubt that settlement building mechanic was a result of the success of Real Time Settler, or the weather systems present in 4 and to a greater extent Fallout 76 are even consdiered because of Anro's work on Nevada skies or the weather mods for Skyrim. It's really moving honestly to see that a studio so readily embraces community content and uses it to evolve the games themselves, which is precisely why you guys are my favorite.
Now here's hoping we see a mechanic like Xilandro's vehicles find their way into Fallout 5- if the system isn't already present in Starfield of course 👀

Speaking of settlers, I wonder if we could see some form of a Bethesda take for Sim Settlements? Maybe new form types and engine level functions specific to it? All of which could later be expanded by Kinggath, if he decides to do Sim Settlements on future games.
Starfield being a game about planetary habit & space station settlements would sound pretty decent to me, and could lead into gains for TES6 with kingdom level settlements.

Although if they DO return to settlements in the next game, it would be best to have one single large settlement like Vault 88 with evolving buildings like real time settler. They could also throw in a Bethesda classic but with a twist- Faction leadership, but you make your own faction.

i love camps dearly but when 76 modding comes i really wanna take a look and see if we can't make workshops be persistent and work more or less like the settlement system
For camps I would say "why not both"? It can be an easily accessible option and then have full settlements as an optional extra tied to guilds. In TES6 I'd imagine a Game of Thrones style noble house that we can interact with and eventually become a higher ranking member to where we get to be a lord, and from there we'd be able to run full settlements. For the base game version of it of course, mods & cheats would allow players to just build if they wish.

For this I completely agree. It would be the best usage of BGS skills to make one planetary settlement and then modders can add new locations, with a stronger base to work with.
i also really wanna re-implement manufacturing, but conveyors just dont seem like the right way to do it, as in 4 if youy have a load of them physics gets very screwy very quickly
vault tec workshop was an excellent experiment that provided prime examples of why some things just don't work
In TES I would say don't give the player status as a noble automatically, have it be a reward for a lot of quest progression or even special objectives. One strength is branching paths in quests
then you got some pure joy objects, like the junk cannons
And let players have the option to decline it, if it doesn't make sense for their character(ie if you're playing a thief)
I didn't like vault tec workshop originally but ironically yesterday was building with it and having fun. It goes quite well with mod added stuff
vault tec workshop is cool but it really is a pain in the butt to get enough resources to have even a smidgeon of a good looking vault

The vanilla balancing didn't work so well, but at this point I can understand why. Because of hardware limitations from PS4/XB1, they had to plan it around having only 10 or 15 settlers with not much built. If not for that, likely things would have scaled up much larger.
Then on 76 even more restrictive build limit becuase the same console limitations only now it's on a huge MMO system.
instead of having physical objects on the conveyor belts they'd have an internal inventory that would deposit into the next slot (conveyor belt, manufactory, whatever), no slot to output to? no movement.
If only consoles had fully upgradable hardware like a PC. Then the weakest link would be so weak.
Papyrus only got 4 threads as well, due to the very weak CPUs on old consoles. So that takes a lot of ingenuity to work around, both for modders and likely the same for the devs during development. Some modders have done amazing things even despite that, but they have truly incredible skills as programmers.

You could simulate that by abstracting it with scripts, where the machine can store how many it should have as a variable. But could end up being a lot of logic.

yeah, i'm unsure how nukes work though, from what i can gather (ie my observation in game) they have a bunch of nuke zones stored far northewest off map that move around when you nuke places
i'd for sure give the encounter a longer countdown timer, and maybe a specialized warning (the bomb's not exactly an icbm) but i really think it would be cool
worst i can imagine is you'd need to have it disable one of the siloes to prevent a fourth potential nuke zone. have a corner popup say something like "The EMP blast has disabled site bravo's targeting parameters!"

I'd assume teso is designed in a way that you can have client side mods that don't effect anyone else's gameplay, meanwhile fallout 76 might just not be designed to work like that without affecting everyone else in the session, much similar to hackers in online fps games.

ESO's "mods" aren't really mods in the sense we know them from Skyrim or Fallout 4 - they make use of specific functions that the devs have allowed the addons to use, but many of the things that are possible in single player games are not possible in ESO
if FO76 wasn't built with a system that makes specific functions available to use for addons, they can't provide the same functionality

nothing really to give any advantages, just model edits and inventory sorters mostly. the rest will come when we get mod tools but based off the ATHENA code there's gonna be an exporting system for taking your main character onto private servers while still leaving you free for the official ones
well, a model edit that places a big, glowing arrow above a small, hard to find but valuable item does give you an advantage

@real sphinx RDO for SSE is very outdated and contains bugs. It's been revised significantly but only for LE.
The in-game integration of our Feature system limits us to Bethesda.net mods, so we aren't able to highlight mods for LE.
I personally tested RDO on XB1 before it was featured and never encountered any problems. Not saying there aren't any, but it seemed to run fine for me.
Iirc it’s minor and has to do with specific follower dialog triggers. I use RDO in most load orders and it’s enjoyable which is what really matters. Would be cool to get an update on the SSE version though!

I don't do mesh work. The only way I know how to get a nif into blender is to convert it to OBJ with outfit studio. Then load it into blender. Someone else might have a better method or program.

I was able to open the nif in outfit studio then converted it to .obj which i then opened up in blender
Getting it to back into the game is a bit trickier because size isn't 1:1, so do a search for blender tutorials.
Use Nifskope > export > file type .obj. Then you can open the mesh in blender.
Depending on your version of blender, there is also plug-in to export as a .nif for use in the game. If it’s a newer version of blender the plug-in may not be compatible, so you have to either convert with outfit studio back to .nif, or you can install and use the last version release of blender that was supported (which in my opinion is much easier).

To remove template malacath statue --- right click NiTriShape - block - remove branch, your nif is ready to go
Thanks man. I tried that last night and then ALL morning. I did everything. 1st I couldn't get the add on to work at all. Then I got it installed but EVERY .nif I converted to .obj in Nifscope showed up completely empty in blender. Outfit studio exported it to .obj no problem and blender could see the file. I've been modifying this whole time. I just hope I can export it back into .nif with no probs.
It looks nice, I can't tell from my tiny screen what that is, but I think you're mostly there. Make sure whenever you have it saved as a .nif that you update bounds, and also make sure you set collision before you export. 🙂
Yea I am totally lost now haha. So if you guessed its the BYOH porch without rails or stairs. I am now trying to figure out how to separate all the different "layers" that will require texturing I guess in nifscope?
Anything that needs a specific texture set should be one node. Different texture different node. I'm not a modeler, so I don't know the specifics for creating a node in your 3d program of choice, I just know that everything which shares a texture set in Nifskope is usually one node
And THAT is what i need to figure out
When you export, make sure your vertices are triangulated and the uvs are flipped the correct way. If that was a vanilla nif, the nodes can be separated with outfit studio by masking, selecting the vertices you want as a different node, and then separating vertices (there's probably a tutorial on it somewhere), but I'm not sure if that's the proper way to do it, and you still have collision to worry about. I don't have much patience with the blender interface so someone else who knows the software might be able to tell you more.
I got it all done with outfit studio. Now to figure out collision.....another day
If it's skyrim, duplicate the object, nifskope, and chunkmerge. FO4, you're up doo-doo creek without a paddle. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Chunkmerge is a program I assume? My mesh is basically box in shape. I just deleted collision and figured I would just wrap a collision box. Dropped it into ck.....crash. lol it was worth a try. Guess I'll have to go through the REAL collision correction lol

Requires starting with an LE mesh then conversion to SE if you're doing an SE mod. The version I have still runs on Windows 10 but I've had mine a while. Well it is a collector home. So I wanted to have small blends. Like the character picked stuff up on the way and added to it. Inside there is a dwemer themed bathhouse behind closed doors with blue/green lighting but the exterior is still nord. The rest of the home is Nordic as well.
Not a fan of the tiddy mods. That's why when I made NPCs for my mod, I duplicated the vanilla body meshes and made a custom race.
As annoying as they are, it’s not as annoying as the better texture replacers that flood the nexus when they’re just resolution double with heaps of sharpen and they look like ass. Best thing is to block the mod authors then you’ll never see them again

@fathom hare Adding it to the string data of the effect using _loc5_.duration. It's working properly, the problem is that the duration value is only starting duration, not remaining. So not really surprised.

Thanks, I think the problem maybe wen I am saving, here is my process, open CK using MO2, load F04 esm, in the cell view i scroll down. Righ click on QAsmoke, view and edit. in the lighting tab I click the show sky. I dont know if I have to put something on region. I go to save I I put the name.esl. I close CK go to mo move the pluging to the skytest mod folder I made to test this and go to the game, go to QAsmoke and get depress. that my process.

I put the esp in a folder and the folder in a zip file, and use the install from file function of mo and the esp work using mo now. But have to be low in the LO.

Hi. Im new to the server but i joined with a goal in mind. I want to make a mod for fallout 76 that allows for FULL VR support. I was thinking that it wouldn't be that hard because i could use most of the resources from fallout 4 vr. I know that you can simply copy and paste the Nuka World and Far Harbor DLC’s from fallout 4 to fallout 4 vr and it will work with full controller support.
Ive done tones of installing mods and programing but ive never actually made a mod.
I REALLY want to be able to play 76 like how i play fallout 4 vr; I just think its a way better experience.
Any and all help would be appreciated, even a pointing into a good tutorial for making mods for 76 would be extremely helpful.

hey guys, having an issue with facegen on a texture swap. I'm trying to get the fallout 76 supermutants to all use the super mutant firestarter face, but keep running into an issue where the face becomes extremely bright. I've exhausted several solutions, but nothing seems to do the trick. the texture sets used are diffuse (d), normal (n), specular (r) and lighting (l)
I've tried
- reducing the Lum emittance from 100 to 0
- disabling mask writes: ambient occulsion, emissive and gloss
- material swap the facegen face
- replacing all facegens textures with the face i want
- replacing the default .ba2 textures with the ones i want
Any help would be appreciated.

turn off specular and turn on ambient occlusion, that should work

I think some people see it was using a voice actor's likeness without their permission. With the AI you can make it say pretty much anything.
VA's of a professional quality obviously aren't an easy asset to come by for modders, understandably.
VAs that resemble vanilla voices so we can expand on their characters without having to redo them wholly are even harder to come by

NPurkeypile's opinion is relevant since he was at BGS till April and was pretty high up. Lead Lighting Artist on Starfield, Lead Artist on 76 and did all the building kits on Fallout 4/Skyrim/Fallout 3. The building kits are extremely useful for modding. Also pretty cool that he used to be a modder too. Modders can join AAA games development and become high ranking leaders.
It seems to run counter to the pessimistic viewpoint some have that modding will never again have a role on future BGS games.
Lots of modders at BGS, and elsewhere at ZeniMax.
Actually had a funny conversation once when I emailed a modder to say we were featuring one of their mods, and they responded via internal channels.
Speaking of funny conversations, I remember when I did a video chat with Rich Lambert during the ZoS career fair event, and as soon as I entered the chat we were both just kind of silent. It took me like a painfully 4 awkward seconds to realize in my head 'Oh...it's my turn to talk..' 😬
It went well, but dear god I was so embarrassed. Situations like that aren't the worst if it's just any other job to you, but if it's your dream career then the anxiety and fear will hit and linger. 🙃

I've often thought about how mental health could work in RPG games. Take autism for example. At least from my personal experience of finding it hard to express myself and people often misunderstanding me, I thought perhaps you could make dialogue options that clearly mean one thing, but get interpreted by NPCs as something else entirely. It would reflect how people like me think we're explaining ourselves perfectly fine, and yet people misunderstand anyway. What we're saying makes sense to us, but not to them.
Doesn't even have to be an explicitly autistic character. Perhaps you play as an alien visiting earth for the first time, and the language barrier could be analogous to autism.

What kind of work would be needed if I wanted to bring the For Honor type of combat into Skyrim? If you don’t know what For Honor is or how it’s played, basically, once a player holds the guard position with any number of medieval fighters, they gain the option to choose between a high guard, left guard and a right guard in order to block attacks from those directions. Players have to watch for changes in enemy posture to switch their defense so that they can block in the right place, otherwise they take a hit. There are some bells and whistles on this model, dodging, parrying, feinting, etc, but I thought with an optional set up like this, Skyrim would be a lot more engaging in terms of combat if it had a 1st and 3rd person system like this.
I think there was one for Oblivion that gave it Dark Souls-like combat but I haven't tried it out yet. I imagine you'd need to have the script extender though, though I'm unsure of how to apply that to the creation kit if you need to.

Mod comments are powered by the forums. Shutting down the forums means removing mod comments (and article comments, for that matter). The old mod comment threads are still accessible through the forums, doing a forum search for the mod ID usually brings them right up . . . if they exist. I'm also seeing if I can get them restored on mod pages themselves, albeit limited to read only.
There is no information I can share on replacing comments. For the meantime we recommend mod authors direct folks to their channels of choice to discuss their mods. Many mod authors already do this, hopefully more will do the same.
Day one of creation and ports to the public on Bethesda I had insults from porters that I can only assume were jealous incapable of creation. This was upsetting and caused me to quit within weeks shortly after my work in a combat mod. Now there is no forum and comments anymore I think it's great. I have the power to remove these types of people permanently and immediately from my Discord where people come for feedback and questions.

That might be good, I've yet to add mods to my copy of Special Edition but I'm after a fighting system akin to Dark Souls as that was fun (with a first person option). Not sure how movesets would work though.

@peak dove interesting, I've been waiting for updates to the Blender nif import and export tool, due to 2.8 and devs coming and going it's taken a while
Yeah Ive used blender since 2011 and making assets was difficult for any game as you never got proper visual idea on how it look in game but 2.8 let's you do that, i converted the cubmaps used in Fallout 4 into a HDRI so I can have a 1/1 idea how it will look.
It's why I really wish Blender's nif tools had partial support for fallout 4 but it barely has Skyrim support and the current version due to changes in how blender works in 2.8+, collision and physics aren't supported, and most of the Nif info isn't imported in so everything is reset to default and so its clearly not usable for game modding, I guess you could copy and paste the model from one nif to another.

When I make Fallout 4 assets I use blender to make the model and textures then bring it into 3dsmax to port, though I do create some custom collision inside it so I do some modeling inside it.

Not bad. It'd be fun to find holotape books or something in a similar format as a mod but the writing is the hard part.
My only gripe would be any flaw in the text if your going to call it a King James bible.
The good news is that I didn't write the Bible myself and am copy / pasting it from a verified KJV source.
But if you're referring to how the KJV may not always be entirely accurate in and of itself, I am planning on doing more versions as well within the same Holotape. So it would be called the "Interactive Holy Bible" or something, with various submenus dedicated to different versions of the Bible. NIV Bible, KJV Bible, ESV Bible, etc. Is that what you mean @fathom hare ?
More like, its a dense book so try not to fumble a copy-paste anywhere, check over your work. But do what you want. Im just saying a missing verse would bother me if the books claims to be a complete text.

Short answer: putting a large amount of religious text into a mod would be too much for the Bethesda.net rules.
Long answer: there is a fuzzy line between "religious" and "cultural." There are also matters of quantity and presentation. As noted, scripture is sometimes quoted by NPCs in-game, and this is done in a fairly neutral and minimal fashion. Your father in FO3 mentions a favored verse of the Bible, and it hints at his general plans. However he isn't proselytizing, or for that matter attacking, nor is he participating in a debate or analysis of the verse.

Why would you want to do that
Why would I want to have different versions within the Holotape or why would I want to make the mod itself? It's good to compare and contrast different versions because the words used are sometimes more or less accurate, and in terms of the mod itself it is a good challenge for me, and so I can read it while I play.

An audiobook mod might be good, so long as you make loads of breaks in one of the versions (one per chapter) so if you fumble it you don't have to start again and wait through like an hour just to get back to that part. That being said the Space Patrol radio mod in Fallout 3 was pretty good. I should get back to it when I can.
