Just keep your expectations in check. It's better to feel surprised than disappointed. Hype often leads to unreachable expectations.

feral viper
#

I shall not Hype, for Hype is the truth killer. I shall face my hype, I shall let it pass over and through me. And when the Hype is gone, there will be nothing.

Only reasonable expectations will remain.

slow loom
#

My expectation is that it will be better than games from 10 years ago but worse than games from 5 years ago.

slow loom
#

In simple terms, better in every way over Skyrim.

jade plover
#

So even if it will be a good game it won't be better than skyrim in every way

slow loom
#

It's probably that way so they can simplify the development pipeline. They really shouldn't need to with how much bank they would make if they do an amazing game. When a company spends more on marketing than the actual product you are in trouble.

#

These days you don't really need to spend 60% of your budget on marketing. Youtubers and word of mouth will do it for free for the most part.

jade plover
#

This is an interesting topic really. I think some games dont need advertisment at all. Rockstar releasted just couple of trailers and GTA 6 is already overhyped. Because everyone already knows GTA, it doesnt need much ads. Isn't it the same with Elder Scrolls? Since its one of the most waited games, they dont have to advertise it at all. Just releas a trailer on IGN and Bethesda YT channels and put it on the first page of steam. Millions of people will see and and tell everyone else

slow loom
#

I'm sure GTA6 will still have advertising on release but how much is needed who knows. Oblivion Remaster was shadow dropped and probably still made a pretty penny. Some games need almost no introduction and TES is one of them. I just noticed on steam they did a lot of new creation releases that are impressive in scale and content. Actually got me pretty close to installing Skyrim and buying them.

pulsar root
#

Advertising is always needed err Marketing I mean, but... I don't think it should supercede game development. off topic though

noble verge
#

I don't get why they insist on completely reinventing the wheel every time. Just do what Obsidian did with New Vegas- use the previous game's framework with a few small mechanical and QOL improvements- and churn out a new game in a few years' time. It's mindboggling to look back at the 90s and 00s and see how many titles developers were able to churn out over the course of just a few years.

dim reef
#

That's what they usually do. Fallout 4 was built off the framwork Skyrim built and 76 FO4's

#

Starfield is where they did a revamp with the engine upgrades

#

ES6 will most certainly be built off the framework Starfield set up

#

Bethesda's dev cycle really hasn't changed much from before and now.
It went up from 2-3 years to 3-4 years

noble verge
#

Fallout 2 came out almost exactly a year from Fallout 1. The Might and Magic series was able to make 9 titles in 16 years with two periods of titles coming out yearly, plus 4 turn-based strategy spinoff titles. Baldur's Gate 2 came out just 2 years after Baldur's Gate 1.

I miss back when I could expect a sequel to a game in a 1-2 years' time.

dim reef
#

I mean almost all those titles were made under heavy crunch

#

FO2 especially had quite the rocky development

pulsar root
#

Well things take more time to make now a days. Crunch hasn't disappeared though and well people have bigger expectations then just "Use previous game framework and small mechanical changes"

I think Bethesda is fully aware doing the whole several planets worth of world spaces is not a good idea.

P.S. I hate when Devs are crunched, I rather they not

eager remnant
#

I applaud Bethesda for trying new things. Granted, sometimes I like the result and sometimes I don't. But I'd rather have that than see them pump out the same game every year or two.

noble verge
#

I don't think I'd mind mind having the same game a few times if it meant it progressed the story instead of leaving it suspended on a cliffhanger for like 16 years.

#

I'm more interested in the progression of the story than the progression of the game's technology.

dim reef
#

I mean i doubt they'll actually progress the story anyway. Best case scenario you get a mention, worst case everything gets written out off screen and we get a new story AdoringFan

noble verge
#

I meant not in terms of Skyrim in particular, but more the whole evolving geopolitical situation in Tamriel, particularly the hints that another continent-spanning war is getting ready to begin.

#

Then again, BGS isn't a strategy game developer so I doubt they'll ever be able to actually get that in a game in a satisfying manner.

dim reef
#

Yeah i have my worries whether they'll actually follow up on all those things

pulsar root
#

They may or may not. Since we know nothing of what ES6 is going to be its hard to even get an idea of where the story is going.

feral viper
feral viper
#

Dumped it on r/TESLore as it was, rather than just delete it...

But the point is, I generally agree. And the evolving world, it's politics, and it's history, IS the backdrop that the games have to work with.

So whether competently or not, they are forced to deal with that.

I find it a little fascinating how much more love the Vigilants of Stendarr seem to get from the fans compared to how Bethesda-made content treats them.

pulsar root

They sound cool but.... knowing one thing stendarr did(That one dude in Oblivion) really makes it hard for me to buy the whole "Stendar is about Justice and righteousness"

tardy tiger
#

If Stendarr did curse them that is. The guy who was murdered could've done it. Always a pain of that quest is never knowing anything and mortals doing nothing.

If one priest figured out how to fix it why did it take generations for someone to actually do something?

pulsar root

Yeah.

To be honest, the Kopesh is an incredibly difficult shape to forge. It's much easier to cast, which is probably why it fell out of favour after over 1000 years of use.

The transition from Bronze to Iron changed things.

Medieval Stasis.

For thousands and thousands and thousands. And thousands... And thousands. And THOUSANDS of thousands of millenia.

noble verge
#

If anything I've seen arguments that technology is regressing.

#

Sotha Sil is either dead or less relevant than he's been since the 1st Era (if you go by Legends), the Dwemer are gone, the Empire no longer has a presence in Oblivion, and who knows how much knowledge was lost when the Thalmor purged the Altmer race of undesirables and dissenters.

pulsar root
#

I doubt any aldmer are all purged except Thalmor, just subjacated and forced to live in a dictatorship. I am a bit curious on how the Empire had reach within Oblivion

noble verge
#

I was referring to Battlespire

feral viper
#

The parabolic kalpa hypothesis was much more popular before ESO.

ESO it's self has shown us, both on its own terms and in regards to flashbacks, that Tamriel has basically always been in the same state. You have the occasional outlier that quickly gets destroyed, while everything else remains stagnant.

noble verge
#

The flashbacks don't convey the whole story- that before 1E668, there was a flourishing high-tech civilization across Morrowind, High Rock, Skyrim, and Hammerfell whose tech is so durable that it still runs today.

#

ESO takes place after they're gone but it also takes place when the Clockwork City is at its peak.

#

Unless we take the sacrifice ending of the Clockwork City Legends story as canon, the 4th Era doesn't have anything comparable save for the still-functional contraptions of lost civilizations.

#

Heck look at Skyrim. In ESO the Nords were actively exploring Blackreach, by the time of TES V it's largely lost knowledge and you only gain access to a small part of it.

trail dust
#

skyrim has more rpg elements that any of their previous games. same with fallout 4

tardy tiger
noble verge
#

I think the biggest factors of technological regression are the self-inflicted disappearance of the Dwemer, the gradual weakening, increasing isolation and eventual death of Sotha Sil, and the decline of the Empire to the point that it can no longer afford to work on massive projects like Numidium and Battlespire.

#

Although it is a valid point that throughout the heydays of both the Dwemer and the Clockwork City, their tech never ushered in a revolution for the rest of Tamriel.

#

Still, I can't help but wonder how accessible Dwemer technology was to their Nord and Chimer neighbors back when they were around.

feral viper
#

Calling the Dwemer technologically advanced is both overestimating, and oversimplifying them.

They were differently advanced, but not any more of less than what we've seen from others.

tardy tiger
#

Like a pain of tech is that the Imperials did get Dwemer stuff working. They got Dwemer airships working and got a Orrery working and are maintaining it.

Battlespire has its own tech level which has magitech and filing cabinets and then Redguard has Imperial Warships with early ironclad style armour. But TES games are an art style thing then some lore tech level thing.

feral viper
#

It's difficult to call that Dwemer tech at this point... Since things have gone a totally different direction since then.

#

The Dwemer of Redguard were very much a Magitech civilisation. More akin to the cut Forge faction in Heroes 3.

Then as of Morrowind, they just went Steampunk instead.

#

Even the Rourken stuff we've seen since puts them far more in the Steampunk camp, rather than the Redguard and Battlespire era style.

tardy tiger
feral viper
#

Oh, I know they got stuff working. I'm saying that the style of Dwemer tech has changed since Morrowind.

#

Because the modern fantasy crowd hates magitech, for some reason.

#

Clockwork and steam? That's fine.

But using Magic to create technology? Naw dog, that's unacceptable and ruins my Medieval Stasis.

Why does everyone hate Bethesda? I saw they were promoting cool community mods for skyrim and everyone hated it

noble verge
noble verge
#

So Bethesda clearly hadn't forgotten the previous game's Dwemer tech.

feral viper
feral viper
# marble coyote Why does everyone hate Bethesda? I saw they were promoting cool community mods f...

A few reasons.

First, people are still sour about the Paid Mods fiasco from a decade ago.

Second, people have a tendency to hate on anything that is successful, to validate their own self worth.

And finally, because it's Bethesda. Bethesda has never, once, managed to do something without a very vocal group of haters. It's been that way for almost 30 years now, and it's not going to change anytime soon.

marble coyote
#

Ok, kind of what i thought

#

Having done a little research, there was probably one good reason to not like Bethesda's mods and that was over years ago

feral viper
#

There are many legitimate criticisms to be made of Bethesda. That never was one of them. But, we don't live in a world of rational people.

trail dust
slow loom
#

Remember this discord is an echo chamber too.

trail dust
#

so like the echo chamber the haters are in then

#

this wouldnt be a strong echo chamber, as i constantly see people do nothing but complain about the games here, and other people doing vice versa

slow loom
feral viper
slow loom
#

I actually appreciate the new proper sized content for Skyrim but I can't help but wish it was official content.

feral viper
#

True. That does result in some echo chamberness. Just because of the permissible topics..

pulsar root
slow loom
#

I haven't looked at Skyrim Creations in ages. I thought these were the only real big sized land mod additions.

pulsar root
#

Sorry I was thinking regular mods not creations.

slow loom
#

The funny thing is that even if they made an official dlc people would complain that they broke all the mods. That they should just be working on a new game instead. Community sentiment is so low that they lose either way. I wonder how the crawl out of this hole, honestly probably can't imo unless TES6 is amazing.

#

Even if TES6 is amazing it will be judged under a fine microscope at this point.

pulsar root
slow loom
#

No TES6 is not alone. Social media might have something to do with it but also gamers just being a lot more cynical after getting burnt so many times. Also companies taking advantage of fans. Cyberpunk is a great example of a company with one of the best reputations in the industry. Sending a game out the door way too early so they could claim the preorder money. CDPR then spent years updating the game and trying to earn their reputation back.

feral viper
#

Gamers only get burned because they set unreasonable standards based on hopes and dreams, and not actual past evidence.

Cyberpunk's release was entirely predictable based on past releases from CDPR. People just fabricate an idealized image of the company in their mind.

slow loom
#

Now imagine your last two big releases are 76 and Starfield which burnt large portions of the fanbase.

feral viper
#

Bethesda chronically suffers from the same problem. Every new release, people bemoan a buggy and unstable launch, as if Bethesda has EVER released a stable game.

slow loom
#

So your blaming fans for having standards.

feral viper
#

No. I'm blaming fans for basing their standards of feefees instead of evidence

slow loom
#

Standards usually come from what also exists in the space.

feral viper
#

The only time Bethesda has actually lied to its fans, is the canvas bag fiasco.

Everything else has been fans making up their own fantasy version of what they WANT, and then judging what Bethesda delivers against it.

slow loom
#

Also the Rum bottle fiasco.

feral viper
#

May have missed the time.

slow loom
#

Just because you don't know about it doesn't mean it didn't happen. We all have gaps in our knowledge.

pulsar root
#

F076 was a multiplayer game and was marketed as such anybody that didn't like that should of just not invested in it. Starfield suffered from splitting their usual one big world space into thousands of them.

Any kind of marketing oopies isn't on the devs fault(The helmet with the moss, that whole canvas bag scandal) that stuff isn't on the devs heads, its not their department.

slow loom
#

Marketing oopsies. I like that.

feral viper
#

Starfield was actually BETTER than I expected.

#

The people who were burned by it are probably the same people who have been burned by every single Bethesda release since 2002

#

When even Morrowind was maligned on release as a betrayal of the fanbase, and subject to vitriol even Twitter wouldn't tolerate.

Well...

dim reef
#

Starfield was more a case of them biting more than they could chew. It's issues range even beyond the 1000 planets

slow loom
#

Sure they lost some fans along the way as all companies do. Everyone has their favourite Bethesda game and where it went wrong. But for me and I think the majority, the height of Bethesda popularity was with the release of FO4.

dim reef
#

Space rpgs are insanely hard to get right. There's a reason for nearly a decade no one except Bioware attempted them

#

and Starfield isn't just a space rpg. It's also tackling concepts of the literal multiverse

slow loom
#

If you put all the hand crafted areas in Starfield into one map. It would probably only just reach the amount of hand crafted content FO4 has.

dim reef
#

Ambition is good but they need to realize their own capabilities

slow loom
#

Starfield feels like a collection of mechanics from their other games thrown together.

#

I did like it on release.

dim reef
#

Now to it's credit it did do a lot of things well. The trait system, dialogue checks, vehicles, the movement and especially parkour mechanics, the visuals

slow loom
#

Now name what it did wrong.

#

I have a rule and it's if someone can't even name one bad thing about a product then I often don't believe them.

#

Imagine you're a QA tester and all you say is everything is great. Well you wouldn't be very good at your job.

slow loom
#

How can you improve something if you cant acknowledge what's wrong with it?

feral viper
#

Not the most reliable method of improvement, but it IS a method

slow loom
#

This kind of comes back to my point about echo chambers. If we write off people disliking something as haters then we lose any chance to understand and win them back.

feral viper
#

Which is why I generally don't use Haters. I reserve that for people who hate something simply because it's not another thing they like.

Playstation and Xbox fans who hate the other simply because of which one they like, for instance.

#

The overlap between Haters and Brand Loyalists is basically a circle.

#

Now, I do think a lot of people are dishonest critics, of course. With how and why they are dishonest tending to vary.

slow loom
#

I think thats closer to a rivalry which is a bit different but sure you could use that word to decribe them.

feral viper
#

Some are just wrong. They have heard something that matches their gut feeling, and assumed it must be true.

This was very evident with the Oblivion to Skyrim criticism. Many people criticised the characters being able to master everything (you couldn't in Skyrim) or the lack of enemy variety (Skyrim has more enemy types) of the decrease of dialogue options (Skyrim has more than Oblivion and Morrowind combined).

#

Some are emotional. They use their feelings and reaction to dictate their opinion, but are unable to really articulate or understand WHY.

This really characterises the Daggerfall to Morrowind reaction.

slow loom
feral viper
#

Being led by emotional responses is fine, so long as you can articulate them.

slow loom
#

To truly review something you have to take yourself out of the equation and judge it solely on it's on merits.

feral viper
#

And if you can't articulate WHY you feel the way you do, your input is effectively useless.

slow loom
feral viper
#

And that was predictable based on everything they had said up to that point.

#

People chose to get their hopes up about something that was pretty easily predicted.

About the only thing that couldn't be predicted, was how terrible the story was. Well TOLD, but absolutely rubbish.

#

Or, I should say, well told for a Bethesda game.

slow loom
#

There is some truth in that we should judge a game compared to others made by the same company. But that is a dangerous road to take because then we forgive bad practices and low innovation.

#

The main thing is recognising our own biases and trying to put them aside so that rational conversation can be had.

feral viper
#

Well, you can't totally put aside biases in these particular sorts of discussions. Because those biases determine what you emphasise in your critique.

#

For instance, if your bias is towards worldbuilding and storytelling, your priorities are going to be very different than someone's whose bias is towards gameplay..

But you do need to minimise them.

slow loom
#

You lean much more towards having a focus on the story and lore. But you are still willing to put your bias aside to say that it's good for a Bethesda game.

#

Imagine if they got a world class writer to write the next game.

dim reef
#

They have a lot of amazing writers and they did recently hire a Bioware vet as well

slow loom
#

Isn't it kind of strange that games hire writers that have never written a book to write their hundreds of millions of dollar games. There would be so many great proven writers that would jump at that opportunity.

I get that you don't hire a book writer to write a screenplay. But you could get one to write the main story for a game minus every single line of dialogue.

dim reef
#

Not really no. It's perfectly normal

feral viper
#

The gameplay on the other hand has become my primary focus.

#

I don't think having a world class writer works either.

Look at Martin, and Elden Ring.

#

The story for Elden Ring is no better than Dark Souls. Despite the lauded authors involvement.

Writing for entirely different media requires different skills and approaches, and it doesn't usually crossover.

#

And to be entirely honest... I don't think there are any world class Video Game writers.

Amy Hennig is probably the closest you get in the entire industry, and even she isn't an instant success.

#

Kasavin's been killing it with Hades lately though... Maybe he'll get up there.

slow loom
#

"Hidetaka Miyazaki wrote the main story of Elden Ring, while George R. R. Martin created the game's foundational mythology and world lore." I think in this way they succeeded. Bringing a whole new universe into being and it not feeling like generic fantasy.

#

I think some writers need an already established playground to write a story in. They aren't as good at creating the playground themselves.

Imagine if Starfields lore and world was written by a top sci-fi writer. Instead it ended up semi generic.

Most writers stick to one or two genres. They aren't expected to go from fantasy to sci-fi at the drop of a hat, the whiplash would be intense.

dim reef
#

Starfield's writing isn't it's problem. I'd argue Starfield has some of Bethesda's finest writing. It's the quest design and execution that's problematic

jade plover
night ember

night ember

night ember

I was honestly dumbstruck by some of the junk I was hearing. In most of these rpg games I do a romance because it's a big part of the content blah blah, this time I literally broke up with barett after he moved in because I realized I could not deal with hearing any more of his lines

#

like it's just so bad in every way, the only thing I'd give it is that it's less annoying than the marvelslop that most studios go for now. Like at least it's badness can be charming at times

dim reef
#

Romances were also a big improvement with way more content than FO4. It's the main reason I'm looking forward to ES6's companions

#

In general companions and their interactivity was a big step up from FO4 with a lot more comments, individual dialogue chains etc.

night ember
#

they were, but this is where I disagree. all these systems quest design (outside most of main quest) etc. was greatly improved, but then all the creative aspects were like really really really bad. the cities were lame the music was lame the voice acting was lame like what??? neon lmao

dim reef
#

I disagree then. I found the writing amazing but quest design and mechanical choices quite lackluster

slow loom
dim reef
#

That's not to say there are no good mechanics. As I've said before the trait system is really good and needs to be in ES6

slow loom

I don't understand how you can say writing is good but quests are bad. Aren't they one and the same? I found most of the dialogue in Starfield very bloated. To the point where I dreaded talking to the next npc.

dim reef

Quest design is akin to direction in a movie. The shot composition, cinematography, screenplay etc. are different than the general character and plot writing

like so much worse than any other acclaimed rpg. much dumber than oblivion. Also the VA that's halfway serious is a lot more annoying than oblivions schtick

night ember
#

skyrim is just so insultingly dumbed down, especially in the main quest. The dragon war is SO DUMB like it's a lore warcrime. the imperial archive has also spent the last decade convncing themselves the civil war isn't similarly watered down. These are both interesting concepts but it's clear certain designers were razor focused on getting some of the dumbest xbox 360 owners in the world to enjoy their game.

#

I'm about to head to solstheim so I'm curious how that'll be

dim reef
#

To me Oblivion is the dumbest ES game. I do love Skyrim's writing a lot

slow loom
dim reef
#

They do. Cinematics aren't just limited to cutscenes

#

There's a lot effort put into scripted sequences to nudge the player into looking at things in a specific way the devs want.
It's the same thing Valve does

#

Nate talked about this on Twitter

slow loom
#

The player is the cinematic camera. I'm sure they put some effort into it of course because you need to make something interesting to look at.

dim reef
#

Not just the camera. Almost every scene and location is designed with it in mind. Diamond City in FO4 for example was tweaked in a lot of ways to make sure the player's first glance at it would feel cinematic

#

There's a lot of cinematic composition in just gameplay alone that you don't clearly notice but it's there

slow loom
#

Not sure i agree with that philosophy. Designing everything around one single shot the player only experiences once ends up leading to a shallow design ethic. Sure it's important but not if you make it look bad from every other angle.

dim reef
#

I'm sure it's designed with all sides in mind. But specific scripted angles are more important to hook people first. Same way movies often have specific artistic shots different from everything else

#

Like i said. There's a lot to cinematics in games that aren't limited to just cutscenes.
And i think Starfield is simply lacking that

slow loom

I would much rather an impressive town over a good first impression.

pulsar root

Having a god like entity related to free will is.... kinda weird anyways.

feral viper

You can make it work, but you can't do so in a system where you have every outcome realised in an alternate timeline.

On top of that, the way they solidified the Many Paths makes is so you could functionally have infinite variations of every god, AND have them move between timelines. Which becomes an incoherent jumble.

I think the quest 3 standalone can handle skyrim vr. I'd love to be able to just pick up my headset and play without having to set up my PC.

I also think a 2.0 version with modern QOL improvements most other VR games have would be great.

That's always been the case.

Hello guys

#

I'm going to use a translator (because I don't speak English). I have a question about Skyrim. I have a save file with in-game creations, and the difficulty keeps changing to easy (I don't have any mods that do that). Also, the creations option has disappeared from the main menu. Can anyone help me, please? Thanks.

Bad faith implies a deliberate intent.

Do not mistake maliciousness for what can be explained by incompetence.

#

Besides that, Bethesda is not, nor can they, develop a game with mod compatibility in mind. There's simply too many mods, too many modders, and too many potential issues.

They can only consider the base game. That's the only thing they have control over, and the only thing they can reliably look at.

Mods are a bonus. It's not the developers responsibility to make sure that mods are compatible, that's Modders job. Expecting a Bethesda to do the job of modders is disingenuous at best.

dim reef
#

I mean no matter how much you make a game compatible for modifications a lot of them still rely on Script Extenders

#

And that simply can't survive game updates. It's not possible no matter what you do

#

Bethesda does try to avoid causing too much problems but there's only so much they can do because at the end they don't know how every mod is being affected

feral viper
#

It's a bit outdated too (2022) but MOST players as of the last reporting don't use mods.

#

Though it wasn't a significant majority.

pulsar root

Game updates generally always break the game. Bethesda isn't being sinister or "Bad faith" I get not wanting any more updates mostly because after a long time modders eventually retire from modding said game but there is no need to send so much venom towards Bethesda.

If they do indeed add natural disaster events that occur every now and then into the game like major storms, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, typhoons, tornadoes, etc. I hope they are absolutely brutal, like something you really do not want to go out adventuring in unless you got a deathwish. My 2-cent opinion: No, they are not going to shadowdrop TES6. I think that statement was more in reference to when it comes time to announce the game (like a trailer). I think they learned their lesson from overhyping Starfield, causing expectations to be completely blown out of proportion. Such as having entire planets or even space itself entirely handcrafted. Which that could of been remedied had they simply given more transparency on those "finer details."

All in all... Not worth the 90 seconds it took to find and read

feral viper

The worldspace processing wouldn't be difficult to achieve if you decrease the number of physics enabled clutter objects, and everything else is pretty basic.

dim reef
#

I'm reading it rn. If it's accurate we really dodged a massive bullet with the procedural generation stuff in Starfield

feral viper
#

The reception to it was a pretty dead giveaway. Consider the reaction to FO4s (brilliant but poorly used) dialogue system. They hard corrected after that to give us Starfield's (arguably the worst dialogue system ever).

The overwhelmingly negative reaction to Starfield's procedural generation would suggest a similar course correct. So we never really could expect it on TES6

dim reef
#

Like people didn't really criticize the camera all that much. Just the dialogue selection.
Yet they just switched back to Oblivion style face zoom for no reason

feral viper

I'm interested in Dispatch for that exact reason

Anything Laura Bailey related is a guaranteed draw for me

feral viper

Absolutely. But, I also watch Critical Role, and have a face to associate with the voice because of that. And I don't need to mentally superimpose the face of a married woman over Romancable video game characters.

If I could turn my brain off, I would.

#

The one potential advantage of AI voices (and even then, it's a stretch).

dim reef

I can understand that tho i personally don't mind

Even in Halo 5 where they had Bailey's face be the character's appearance it didn't affect me all that much

Imagine if my mother had that sweet voice acting like Laura and people were gushing her voice and the son of that mother who grew old enough to explore the web and see something like this in video games where characters are romanceable and voiced by the son's mother... I can tell it might be awkward.

#

Not just better than anything Bethesda has done but better than MOST of the industry as a whole.

#

One think in said 'leak' that I am adamantly against... Is repairing equipment.

I'm sure there are ways to do it well... But NO RPG has ever done so. It's a flat tax on gameplay, and in pretty much every way it's been implemented, is actively punishing you for just playing the game.

#

It's terrible, and I frankly do not trust Bethesda (or anyone else in the industry) to make it work.

dim reef

Especially Starfield. They react to pretty much everything.

They've already improved it a lot. FO4's system alone was leagues better than anything say Bioware had ever done before that

They do need to work on the affinity system a bit more to make it more complex but all in all they're heading in the right direction there

Another thought, I like 'research systems' in games too used for advancement in a skill or trade, so it's not mindless grinding. In some games it's been implemented as barebones-boring, but in a game like TES, the available tools could be used to make it shine.

The only way I've been able to come up with that keeps it relevant, and not a chore, is to link it directly to Tempering/Improvements.

A weapon will never go below it's normal state, but if you want to keep it improved you have to put some extra work in.

Even then, I think attaching 'maintenance' to a rest action is more than enough. You look after your equipment while you're taking your down time, no need for inventory management.

It's only going to be an issue against particularly damaging encounters, or if you go too long without said down time.

I was a vocal advocate of letting the fandom know that TES6 was coming. Our forums were seeing an incresing number of folks who were making an increaing number if posts claiming that Bethesda was finished making Elder Scrolls games in 2016-2017. I urged both Matt Grandstaff and Pete Hines to say something. Personally I would not have done it in the form of a teaser trailer. I think a clear, concise written message from Bethesda Softworks or Bethesda Game Studios on the front page of our forums would have sufficed. But at least it stopped the spread of misinformation for awhile.

feral viper
#

It was a constant thing. We were seeing at least one post a day, sometimes multiple. Something had to be done.

I don't think they made the right decision, but it was at least not a decision to ignore the concerns.

wise quartz
#

I can understand that, but I agree, something written, or even a short video discussing the future of the elder scrolls series would have been a much better way to go.

I habe over 4k hours across multiple systems for Skyrim, and probably close to that in the golden days of Oblivion.

Its been very discouraging with the wait we've been given for the next title.

People were freaking out about Bethesda maybe abandoning Single player games(Wasn't the case but internet gonna internet).

feral viper
#

Yeah, it was a whole thing. The announcement about 76 and the existence of ESO had a lot of very vocal people adamant that Bethesda was jumping on the Multiplayer Bandwagon, and wouldn't be making another single player TES.

#

It was an attempt to reassure people that there was, in fact, an intent to do another one.

Ironically, the less than well thought out approach to reassuring people has probably done as much damage now, a decade later, as just ignoring them would have.

# jade plover You don't need smithing. I would like bethesda to remove it completely too. But ...

Equipment customization with modular parts contributing exp.

Deeper material dynamics allowing for far more crafting options.

Simple volume sliders allow you to craft multiple instances at once, combined with diminishing returns for repeat crafts.

Actual tempering and improvement of equipment contributing exp.

Then you can also do things line merge it with general crafting, allowing for things like Furniture Crafting to contribute to the skill, further increasing the number of potential craftables and minimising the need for repeats.

#

The core problem with Smithing in Skyrim isn't that it requires churning out daggers. It's that churning out daggers is the most efficient way to max it out quickly.

If you just make a single instance of everything, rather than trying game the leveling, you actually get pretty close to max level. Last time I tried it I got to 90 something.

But if you abuse the system to just quickly max out a skill, well... That's sorta on the player, isn't it? Do something boring to effectively cheat, and you don't get to complain about it being boring.

No, reviewers have changed.

You'll never, ever, be able to use reviews to establish trends in quality. Especially not in gaming, where reviews have a longstanding history of bootlicking from VG media, and hate bandwagoning from consumers.

#

Reviews are just one step up from useless. Most data indicates they don't even serve their primary purpose with less than 20% of people even considering them when buying a game.

#

It also depends where you look. Starfield's Metacritic is 83%, for instance. Barely a wiggle from Fallout 4s 86%, and a significant increase from 76s 52%.

Further reinforcing just how useless review scores are.

You either end up relying on an argument from authority, an argument from popularity, of Cherry picking. All of which are inherently fallacious and therefore invalid.

feral viper
#

Ultimately, Bethesda's quality has not dropped. It's gotten better. There is simply no way to reasonably claim otherwise.

It's simply improved slower than peoples expectations have grown.

True but the only things I like were the way skill trees worked and should be evolved and I believe if in es6 they replaced enchanted weapons and armor with the loot effects of starfield it would be a great Boone and not go and find enchanted items everywhere like in Skyrim make it so that you need to explore to find what works for you and not be overpowered and bring back crafting and true settlement building that is a must

pulsar root
# jade plover They aren't the same. Morrowind - 93% positive reviews Oblivion - 93% FO3 - 80% ...

Its far more complicated in that and just using as reviews as a standard for quality is stupid. Morrowind for a lot of people(That didn't follow them early) was new. Also over time internet presence has gotten bigger and Social Media is more bigger then ever. Second as Dex pointed out ES lore is expansive and massive. Starfield was a new IP entirely. Fallout also had some preexisting Lore before Bethesda touched upon it as well.

Also it cannot be said enough the spread out POI via hundreds of other world spaces hurt Starfield hard(Even if I liked it massively).

feral viper
#

Still, they TRIED to make Starfield have a rich tapestry. And like Ithelia with TES, they ended up building that out of flawed ideas that made it shaky at best

hushed coyote
feral viper
#

Oh, it's not just Ithelia. She was just the straw that broke the camels back.

#

Ithelia just highlights the same core issues that the worldbuilding in Starfield fell prey to.

Playing with ideas that you fundamentally don't understand, and then creating narratives and concepts that undermine themselves.

#

This isn't just a Bethesda problem, of course. Another example of it in gaming is Blizzard, and Illidan. Legion just entirely destroyed Illidan's character arc and backstory in one fell swoop with the whole 'He was right the whole time' nonsense.

Totally missing the entire point of a REDEMPTION story.

#

Starfield did a lot wrong, that's true. But it's all perfectly in keeping with things Bethesda frequently has problems with. And it significantly improved in some other eras.

Whether people like it or not is irrelevant to its actual quality.

#

I mean, look at Oblivion. People love that game, and it's the lowest quality thing Bethesda has made this millennium.

But if you compare them with other games coming out in the same time they are definitely getting worse just because other games improve faster

Making the best possible product you can is now bad for the industry. What a whacky world we live in.

I can see your point somewhat but we shouldn't be accepting of bloated companies with massively inflated budgets. That then end up putting out subpar products that try to keep the status quo instead of pushing the bar forward.

I haven't got time or money for subpar anymore when there are thousands of games released each year.

#

The good thing about steam reviews is that everyone is treated equally in them. Journalist mean no more than your average gamer, as it should be.

Sure there are review bombs but sometimes there are outside forces at play. Say a game might be shutting down in a few months but the steam page doesn't say. Or changes to microtransactions that make the game worse.

It's the reason we have recent reviews and all time reviews. Steam also takes into account review bombing and excludes those reviews in some cases.

No one number should be your deciding factor for if you buy a game. Reviewers words and a general overall rating can help you understand if it's worth your time and money.

On the other hand you have websites that don't even need to prove you own the game or are paid journalists telling you what to buy.

noble verge
#

It doesn't help that a lot of people don't trust game journalists anymore for various reasons. Ever since a guy got fired because he gave Kane and Lynch an honest review which prompted Eidos to threaten to cease buying advertising space with the publication, people have been suspicious of the motives of game journalists.

Oh, I don't think we should be accepting of it either.

But we live in a world where, ultimately, the consumer doesn't matter. The shareholder does. All we are, are wallets to pilfer.

If you stray too far from the pack, and make something TOO good, that others can't match... The industry doesn't see that as a reason to improve.

Instead, they see the failure to reach that bar as an indication that there isn't enough money to be made trying, and axe the attempt instead.

#

So the quality of BG3 and Expedition 33 may lead to the people with the purse strings cutting RPG development elsewhere, because their own development teams can't match it, and don't make enough of a return trying to meet the new quality standard.

It's definitely not a criticism of excellence. It's a criticism of the failure of modern capitalism.

If it hadn't been 7 years since the trailer and TES6 was less than a year away from release then it might land.

feral viper

Theres no more hostility now, than there's been following every release.

I doubt it would do any more damage, than just releasing a game

Because if there's one thing the Bethesda community loves more than Bethesda games, its hating on Bethesda games.

Change as in there is an outrage in those specific examples. F04 is the aniversery edition problem. Not necessarily if the game is good.

Same with Skyrim Anniversary edition part of it is to do with the fact Skyrim got updated again. A good chunk of all of it is just review bombing.

Well discord has only existed for a decade at this point. Sometimes it can be hard to understand the actual fans feeling towards your games under the sea of hate. People don't usually go on forums to express how much they like a game. Usually they are there to express their problems and thoughts for improvements about a game. This is why I use steam reviews as a judge for community sentiment. As it has proven play time and profiles to see that they aren't just bots.

# pulsar root I agree with the last part. But truthfully Bethesda should just not put out anyt...

I imagine todd teased it so early as more of a “hey. This WILL happen, we didn’t give up on this IP”, I remember around then the idea of TESVI was something people fantasized about but had no idea if it would happen

That being said, insanely early

I would have appreciated more of the recent interviews we had recently over the years, the occasional “hey, we teased it early. It’s gonna happen but not yet” would have probably helped with the communities general attitude about it

#

Don’t get me wrong, i’m so excited about it, but the way I see it, I have other games to play and a life to live in the meantime. I’d LOVE to play it soon, we’ve ALL been waiting for a long as time, but, todd said he was preaching patience. I’m not a todd howard or betheada shill by any means, but i’d rather have a complete game than something crunched because the community put so much pressure on the devs that the company released something unfinished, see cyberpunk and CDPR

#

That and I imagine starfield being the fumble that it was isn’t helping, it still feels like we haven’t gotten anything new and big from bethesda because so few of us got past a few hours in starfield

I like the idea of CC but imo none of it is worth it. If they brought in the voice actors to add additional voice lines for some of the CC stuff that would add serious amounts of value. The Skyrim “here is your note” really hinders the entire experience imo for a lot of the CC content.

Especially when free mods do the same thing. CC needs to have that next level polish to justify having to pay for it.

dim reef
#

Personally my main interest in CC is the items and gear themselves rather than the quests. I don't mind them not being voiced as i recall that was a legal issue. I like most of the gear or items they add so I'm satisfied with them. Tho occasionally the odd CC quest turns out to be decent which is a bonus

That sounds like a pretty low bar to me. Random content that has no balance which is sometimes decent.

Well, that's more an issue if Bethesda being Bethesda.

How the games work at all is a miracle.

dim reef

That's just how dlcs like that work in general. It's why most devs just don't interfere with base game

#

Most dlcs are usually set in separate world spaces

That sort of thing is usually restricted to 4x games.

Bethesda being the clear outlier there.

jade plover
feral viper
#

Don't need to tell me. I think the DLC model used across the industry isn't just outrageous, it's down right immoral.

I don't generally buy DLC. I only ever play stuff when it's rolled into game packages, or is a full in expansion.

feral viper
#

For instance... You sell 10 million copies of a game. That's 10 million potential customers for a dlc.

You then sell a skin, the simplest of DLCs. If you price it at $1, and only 10% of the potential market buys it, you've made $1m in sales.

Now, is anyone honestly going to tell me that a skin is so cost intensive that you can't make a reasonable profit on that?

I've DONE 3d modeling and texturing. I may not be good at it, but I've done it. I know the work involved.

noble verge
#

I thought AE had decent value for its cost. Lots of new armors, new weapons, new artifacts, new mounts, new player housing, new followers (the goat is the GOAT), new dungeons, and new enemies.

#

Not exactly balanced, but no less balanced than TES III where you could get a full set of mid-upper tier light armor, a Daedric katana, and three scrolls that let you jump halfway across the world in the first few minutes of the game.

#

Compared to Bethesda's non worldspace-adding DLCs like Tribunal, KOTN, Broken Steel, Dawnguard, and Automatron, it's a pretty meaty assortment of content.

What do y'all think about Elder Scrolls Blades being ported over to vr before the release of the Steam Frames? Considering the mobile architecture they're both based on it would hopefully be easier than the other titles, and I think the gameplay would lend itself to vr really well. This would absolutely be a project that could be sent off to a secondary studio or even a team of modders that got hired, and would be a really awesome way to bridge the gap between titles.

Bloodmoon at least had more direct references to Nordic and Scandinavian mythologies, and cultural elements.

But that's a general problem with Skyrim. It's culture is... Anemic. It's at least THERE (compared to Oblivion) but there was so little to it.

It also had better Horkers. Bloodmoon was at a time when Bethesda wasn't afraid of making odd creature.

feral viper

Well... It's POTENTIALLY hazardous.

#

The main risk with cannibalism, in any species, is exposure to disease. If you're eating the same species as yourself it's much easier for infectious diseases to jump from one to the other.

Of particular risk are prions, though that risk exists across species as well.

I just wanted elves to stand out more from the men. I agree the Dunmer are better off than the other elven races. Bosmer have potential, it's just a matter if they can hit it on the head.
Altmer have potential to be better as well, as true masters of the arcane.
Bretons having qualities of both Men & Mer, I feel like should be more fearsome as hybrids instead of watered-down milk drinkers.

They could improve it more by doing more with the cannibalism itself. Wood elves gaining powers and knowledge beyond any other normal cannibal. Maybe even their memories and such so in a way each Bosmer lives on forever throughout their race as they continue on. And perhaps it could stack, like passing on everything that individual cannibalised and being super-nutrious when the body is absorbed by nature.

nimble pond
pulsar root

People soured over the settlement system. Personally I think just extending the housing options(Like Hearthfire on steroids) is enough not entire settlements.

midnight stag
#

On another note what if they have a system in the character creation that you could start out as a vampire, werewolf, or something like a vigilant of stendar or just mortal class that has their weaknesses and advantages or neither against them maybe something like what you saw with starfield in the character creation when choosing to yield a higher reward but higher risk just something I thought up today I thought that would be cool if they could implement something similar to that in the next game but I don’t think that they’d have that thought process but if they did it would be a new way of playing the game in which the player has an interesting advantage to other characters in the game like npc or named factions where the players can function in a way to empower the player

gloomy kraken
feral viper
#

None of these are actually, you know... SETTLEMENTS.

Last time we had anything you could actually call that, was Bloodmoon.

#

A settlement system should feel like building a community. A hub for activities that you can engage in, not just a resource farm that you show up to occasionally to dump excess inventory off at.

SIM Settlements improved in this over the base approach in FO4, but it was limited by the base game.

#

Somewhat hilariously (in an ironic way) is the fact that I've used Minecraft Mods that do settlements better than Bethesda has managed to do in the last decade...

One of which being made by one dude, as a coding project for his YouTube channel over a single year.

dim reef
#

Well there's a reason why FO4's base building was separate from other things. Some don't like it so having them lock quests behind building things would turn people off

#

I honestly like it that way. It's a nice side activity. I don't need it to be heavily tied to the main story or major side quests

feral viper
#

Fallout 4, and Fallout in general, have always been more directly plot related.

#

It's harder to have a whole detached activity when the game it's self focuses around a particular story

feral viper
#

My overall point was more that people are tired of the settlement system, because Bethesda has never done anything particularly engaging WITH it.

So that doesn't make the system bad. It just makes it's uses bad.

#

It actually has a great deal of potential for TES, both on small and large scales. It just needs to be used in a way that is more than a one-dimensional tack on.

gloomy kraken
#

I mean I know a lot of people who like building stuff

dim reef
#

I do

#

Thing is people will complain if there's a heavy emphasis on building connected to the major quests. Heck a bunch of people disliked FO4 for simply making you use the system to make the signal interceptor

#

So all in all I'm fine with it being separate

#

Tho they way over did the separation in Starfield. It feels more like a footnote there than anything with even a remote semblance of connection to the plot

#

In 4 and 76 you're rebuilding the world, in Starfield you're... mining resources ig

pulsar root
#

I just don't think settlement building really belongs in the ES games. Like I said, have Hearthefire as a baseline but with more features(Like being able to move the usually static objects in houses around).

feral viper
#

Elements of it can be adapted and expanded upon to do several things.

Fortification management for larger battles.

Guild management to make leadership actually DO something (anything, vehk's brazen balls, ANYTHING).

Homesteading like expanded Hearthfires content.

A full township where you build/rebuild a community like Raven Rock.

#

It's got a lot of potential, it just needs to actually be used in a thoughtful manner.

gloomy kraken
#

We just need more cannibalism, more necromancy and most importantly more Molag Bal

feral viper

nimble pond
bitter kestrel
#

feral viper
#

Indeed.

In relation to settlements... Refining the engagement with NPCs, rather than focusing on resource gathering (or better yet, integrating those elements) would go a long way to integrating it into TES.

The structure and item placement systems are already useful as-is, but it's the almost entirely undeveloped 'Management' side of them that has the most potential, both on large and small scales.

nimble pond
#

If they do bring in boats, I hope they open up the deep sea because I'd want to explore the ancient lost underwater civilization of the Dreugh, since they pre-date the first era. Perhaps even before "land" was created and there was only water? Finding their temples and ruins all over the deep sea floor and some even as "floating nest" dungeons in the middle of the water depths. Be fun to have both that along with exploring the lost ruins of the Dwemer in the next province.

feral viper

TES goes the other way. The land predates the water.

So, in principle, there's plenty of sunken remnants of the late Dawn Era civilisations under the sea

It just looks like in the middle of the screen, that whole ridge is isolated with a hidden river running behind it. But my eyes ain't the best.

Just got me wondering if we're actually looking at two provinces here instead of one. Moving from High Rock towards Hammerfell, with the bay on the right and the Skyrim mountain border and/or part of the Dragontail Mountains (looks like snow on the tops) on the left?

The gothic look gave it away for me IMO. Nope No Elder Scrolls this year. If Todd is really liking the shadow drop he won't hint at it.

nimble pond
#

Yea it was so overly demonic looking, I couldn't see it being TES. Heck, not even Doom is that demonic.

#

But as far as shadowdrops go, I don't see it happening with TESVI. But I could see it with Fallout 3 or New Vegas. There has been quite alot of Fallout activity lately.. ngl. From Fallout 4 updates (and getting some NV love pumped into it like the Varmint Rifle), Fallout 76 stuff like Burning Springs expansion about to drop, Season 2 of the TV series coming in December, which coincidentally revolving around a New Vegas plot I have heard. So it really would not surprise me in the least if they shadowdrop a Fallout New Vegas Remaster in December along with Season 2 of the show.

#

But don't read too much into what I'm saying. I'm just having fun with wild ideas.

nimble pond
#

Nevermind, I just read the Oblivion remaster took 4 years to develop. Would of been cool if both S2 of the Fallout show & FNV remaster released alongside, but looks like that ain't gonna happen.

I will say this though. We've gotten a good amount of TES mobile games over the years. I think we're overdue for a second Fallout mobile game.

Hi guys! 👋

I wanted to share something exciting (and stressful) with you – I’m currently working on my bachelor thesis about Information Security and Data Protection in Online Games, and I’ve chosen ESO as my main case study! 🤓

I’m researching things like cyber threats targeting us players (phishing, account theft, social engineering) and investigating how safe our data and accounts actually are.

**I’d love to hear your thoughts! **If you have any ideas on this topic, or if you’ve ever encountered any scams, weird whispers, or security issues in ESO, please hit me up(dms, thread or dedicated channel on dc server). Any brainstorming or real stories would be super helpful for my research because I want to include the community's perspective.

Thanks a lot! ❤️

But more to the point...

The shortcomings of Discord become more apparent when you're engaging in detail oriented conversations, and when you have high traffic.

#

Referencing specific details and partial quotes is difficult on Discord, and it lacks a lot of formatting options that allow you to concisely relay information points.

#

On top of that, when you have high traffic, you end up with rapid scrolls of the text that makes any cohesive conversation basically impossible.

Instead you just get people posting random statements that disappear into the scroll, never to be read

So I just had a dream that Ozzy Osborne wasn't dead. But was instead found in the realm of Oblivion. And there was a new Daedric Prince, who turned out to be Ozzy. He was the prince of Forbidden Music. A powerful and ancient art of sound that was similar to the schools of magic, but was produced thru sound instead of mana. It could charm, cause destruction and even summon demigods. Anyway, Ozzy was rockin' out, it was a huge concert in Oblivion. Suddenly he picked up a scamp and bit it's head off. I was in such a state of both shock and joy that I woke up shortly after. At least I think I did, am I still dreaming? I gotta lay off the spicy food before bed..

As for it being TESVI. Big no (respected game journalist already confirmed it was not as well as Todd Howard himself stating very recently in an interview the game was still going to be a while).

As for it having to do with anything else TES-related, who knows? But personally I don't think it is.

I don’t actually know if the statue is of es6 or not but a lot of things on the statue reflect es games and between Microsoft ceo and Xbox ceo it could be existential surcimstances between them of making money to promote Xbox brand and to meet the goal that Microsoft CEO set for Xbox sales so they could try and get a heavy hitter out to ensure it does and for that insider that everyone is talking about I looked into it and the post or whatever it was could of been very well falsified even though he is a reputable source but the way that the person in question that posted about it was probably not originally him but someone with a similar name because I’ve learned two things that Bethesda won’t for any reason to give up information on games weather Todd or staff due to the very extreme nda that they all signed and that they love to stir the pot and additionally Microsoft is rocking the boat CEO is being te be at tsa awards maybe but not in a official way but yeah maybe not who knows

Look the guy in question that has been said to allegedly said anything about es6 at tga awards very well could not be the very same guy because there is for one Bethesda employees and executives will not say anything to anyone for good reason and another is there is a very real possibility that is not the real guy saying that and is someone impersonating or going by the same name but no there is no way to tell if the guy in question is the real deal because most of the time there is no way that someone that reputable would say anything through his real or similar name on any website or use his real name in any way even if it said so because people will handle his stuff instead of himself because of liability issues and really in any thing he actually does post is under a pin name and no one would actually know until what ever it comes out and still he would still have restrictions on what he can actually personally post and anything he could not post personally without a pin name to go by to protect himself and this applies to basically everything that can be posted by a reputable real source so no do not believe anything that is posted with out actual verification through the people who actually are making or news or anything without verification through the right channels so yeah I learned that at a young age and it should probably be taught in school because of many problems that happen so not to cause any issues with people because I have also seen and heard about it too much and they still don’t teach anything about that in schools even now and as much as of I know of they probably should so yeah there is a life lesson for you not to be harsh but it is reality

I know ESO is an MMO, but it feels too MMO. Does anyone else agree with me? like fallout 76 is also an MMO but it feels like a single player game brought online. I’m curious if Bethesda is gonna do an engine revamp for ESO if it plans to stick around for 20 more years.

I also recall it being stated by Xbox's Phil Spencer TESVI would not release until after Fable does and I think we still don't have a release date for that game yet either besides an estimated target of 2026, but it's not in concrete yet. Previously it was targeted for 2025, but that didn't happen here in the decade of delays. Many games have succumbed to being delayed. Phil also added in mid-2023 that TESVI was likely 5 years away. If TESVI released in Mid 2026, that would make it only 3 years.

So, since there are non-humans in TES, that diminishes the likelihood hood of TES somewhat. At the same time, Bethesda has never shown us a Non-Human skeleton, so its kind of a tossup there.

More on the productive, rather than speculative side of things... There's a Luality clip I saw recently which really encapsulates why I think melee combat in TES (and most real time RPGs) is so bad.

#

It's only interactive in the most simplistic sense.

Swing, hit, maybe block or dodge, and that. Is. It.

#

And since Skyrim, Bethesda's melee has actively gotten worse.

If not follows the trend that it's had for the last 3 games, the single biggest element of any Bethesda game come TES6 is going to be Morrowind-in-2025 levels of bad.

And that's concerning.

Oblivion also generally levels with you. So for the most part, you can do whatever, whenever, without a lot of consequences.

Elven Skulls either have a highly defined supraorbital process, or they have a defined structure similar to a sagittal crest.

pulsar root
#

Only one Province is needed. Not two.

last dew
#

Because personally, I would want Elder Scrolls 6 to be treated as a sequel to Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim and to have the story of the Thalmor concluded.

#

I rather have it set with two provinces specifically Hammerfell and High Rock. Why do you think it's too much to ask? Aside from creation engine reasons, I don't see why not.

#

And no, it doesn't need to be like Starfield. Don't need a thousand planets.

pulsar root
#

Because one Province is enough for the amount of content a typical ES game gives. Two would just be splitting the amount of detail and content between the two. There is no need to change the formula. It wouldn't be worth the effort to make two provinces.

last dew
#

Even after about 14 years and more since Skyrim came out for Elder Scrolls 6 to be something bigger than the previous Elder Scrolls game, can't we have more content and compelling story of the political turmoil of Hammerfell and High Rock with various warring factions and potential story arcs involving the antagonistic Thalmor? Where's the fun in that?

pulsar root
#

You don't need two provinces to deal with the Thalmor and there comes a point where only a moderate size increase is necessary we don't need to bloat the ES6 budget.

feral viper
#

I want the Thalmor around for at least another 4 games.

last dew

But I think the world, games and setting have only benefitted from the Dominion, and by extension, the Thalmor.

The lack of a single monolithic political power dominating the world has created a lot of new avenues for stories and characters, that simply wouldn't exist otherwise.

Don't mistake my disagreement to be not wanting Elder Scrolls games after 6. Maybe the Aspect of Talos from Morrowind might be on to something about a change in something in Tamriel, maybe break a cycle of empires. And yes, change is never pretty.

feral viper
#

The Thalmor won't end in Hammerfell or Highrock. So they're basically a write-off if the end of the Dominion is your goal..

#

You'd have to take the problem to Summerset.

And a two province game is a bad enough idea. A three province one is a disaster from beginning to end.

harsh crown
# clever turtle Nah I don't. It just says something went wrong

Have you by chance tried the account recovery options? As in recovering your UserID and/or Password? Many times I've seen instances such as this where an account may be forgotten because it has not been used in a while. Other times I've seen cases where someone has what is called a "Quick Account" meaning they previously logged into a Bethesda game, and the account verification/completion process was not completed, so you may have an account, but just not be aware of it (this is actually pretty common).
