Depends on the story they tell. In all the games the story requires your character to have a certain origin. But really any plot that works for a wastelander works for the other backgrounds

For synths backgrounds would just be the implanted memories/stolen identity. Pre war + human would be from a cryogenic vault like 111 and 31.

I haven't played FO4 yet, so I don't know much about the synths, but you can write some amazing identity crisis story lines that follows a robot who doesn't realize they're a robot.

my theory is the Brotherhood of Steel will have an all out civil war in the next game between West and East chapters. The NCR is in need of being rebuilt probably a new Shady Sands or whatever. The Enclave are the villains.

The NCR will be like the Minutemen equivalent for california because as much as i dont really like the idea, it kinda has the same plot points as the minutemen where their government was completely bombed by an institute synth. The player will help the NCR make San Francisco a new state.

The Enclave will arrive and probably Cold Fusion has some sort of importance in the game where they will want it back.

and we will play as a Vault Dweller in a Vault nearby probably in San Francisco.

oh an the Shi will also be another major faction too in the San Francisco area being at odds with the Brotherhood due to their research in pre-war tech. This makes the game offer 4 factions like fo4 with Enclave, BOS, NCR, and Shi

My issue is not that Fallout is becoming more railroaded, I don’t think it has. My problem is that there is a lack of choice in storylines or questlines.

A lack of choice that didn’t exist in the isometric games or New Vegas or Morrowind or Oblivion (though I find the discourse around that game specifically so conflicting)

Ironically, there isn’t much to be railroaded away from in Fallout 4 (exploration is the meat and bones of that game, they incentivize you to explore)

I would even say New Vegas is more railroaded since it’s pretty clear which path it wants you to take first since that is better for the storyline but it doesn’t block off alternate ways completely, it puts a soft block by putting cazadores and deathclaws. You can avoid these enemies or you could even kill them all like I painstakingly did for my Great Khan larp run and get to New Vegas in an alternate way.

It’s actually pretty surreal to go through these paths in a new run since it changes how you see New Vegas though that’s just me really overanalyzingl

I felt I was getting introduced to Boston but my beginning within it wasn't as myself like in other Fallouts but that I was not able to orientate myself once the initial chaos of the beginning was over with - I was led along to Boston through the perspective of the Minutemen then put to work to build stuff for them pretty much straightaway after the introductory story setup was done. In Fallout 1, I could start from a cave and then take in the land - I did not have to do anything for the group I was tagging with straightaway, I could learn the ropes. Same for Fallout 2 and FNV. There was no overarching factional viewpoint looming over the introductory stage, just you and other people in the Wasteland. 3 was basically you being with your father & vault then being cut away from both to see Washington on your own. One of my favourite moments of Fallout of all time. So yeah

Fallout 4 so was not my kind of game that I pretty much abandoned it halfway through

Not being able to fast travel or save is what makes survival great and challenging.

Travel being dangerous is part of the immersion and fast traveling removes that and makes building settlements a lot less beneficial as you can just poof instantly into ur main base.

And being able to save removes the need to actually survive, strategize and take precautions as you wouldn’t be at risk of losing progress by dying.

So, the only question I have about the big part fallout community is: “why are you so delusional?” Every time I go SOMEWHERE fallout related, there is a group of people who repeat the same thing: “Bethesda hates new vegas, the NCR, the lore is broken, etc, etc”. When I’m under some form of content related to fallout 4, there is ALWAYS an individual, who is repeating the same criticism for almost 11 years now: “the railroad is saving toasters, the synths are just robots, the whole conflict is bad, the brotherhood is ruined etc etc”, you’ve probably heard about it long time ago. I just can’t understand, why hasn’t this changed for almost 11 YEARS. ANYONE CAN GROW UP BY THIS TIME, EXCEPT FOR THIS PART OF COMMUNITY.
WHY, WHY DO THEY REPEAT IT, NEVER QUESTIONING, NEVER THINKING, FOR YEARS NOW. It’s not like they have an opinion, this “opinion” was pre- made, it aged terribly, yet it’s still used. I feel like I argue with the hive- mind, except the “mind” part is removed.

They would have military training, have a military uniform, and have familiarity with military customs. I don’t think people actually want a F1 and F2 remake or I don’t think people have thought what a remake entails.

This is probably a really controversial opinion but I don’t think the isometric games should get a remake and there are two perspectives for why I think so: a customer’s perspective and a business’s perspective. A F1 remake means you’d be trying to replicate the game of F1 in some new ways, let’s say it’s made into a first person Fallout and graphics like Fallout 4, I don’t think the upgraded perspective, graphics, and gameplay are enough to deal with the significant lack of actual content in F1. And F1 does have lots of content for its time but the game isn’t that long and there are around 40 quests in the game I think and most of them are not interesting. There’s a significant lack of unique npc dialogue or relationships with companions. I don’t think the content you get from game is worth you buying a remastered new version. F2 would also this problem but that game also has more content. Now the other thing is maybe they might have deluxe content which may incentivize people to buy the game (which I found it unlikely that deluxe content is going to make people buying a more expensive version of a $10 game, worth it). There’s also a business aspect to why it shouldn’t happen: there isn’t enough demand for a F1 or F2 remaster and the amount of labor necessary to remaster the game might be more expensive than it’s worth. Especially when that development time could be spent on working on other projects that would make more.
