Hello! When I try to start a new game, I just load infinitely on the main menu screen but all the buttons disappear. Also, the audio button in the settings is greyed out with a loading icon next to it. #screenshots-and-video message

I've been learning more Spanish (hopefully it sticks this time) and it's certainly making Fallout seem a little sillier.

For example, the military base that was a difficult stronghold to fight through, occupied by Super Mutants in the first game, then used as a testing ground for the Enclave in the second game, then mentioned time and time again in later games, Mariposa Military Base, is "Butterfly Military Base".

Imagine dying in the butterfly base. Couldn't be me (I don't plan on playing those two). How embarrassing.

I just started my first hardcore play-through in FNV and the game keeps shutting down over and over again, even though it never did as often in a regular play-through. Is this a commonly known issue? Just curious

Ah yeah, it's easy to eat up on console. Just even one landscape mod can eat up a qaurter of space. I played on Xbox for 3 years. Now I'm on pc on a 2nd mostly stable playthrough running 266 mods

no i have 900+mb of space left its the limit of mods. you can download only 100 mods on console at a time

On Xbox, it's a 2gb space limit. I never ran into problems of number of mod limit, only space. It's one or the other which ever you run into first i guess. Colorful commonwealth was like 336mb and Caliente outfit replacer was another 300mb I think. Mary jane 147mb it all goes quick for me.

If I'm new to the Fallout series, which game do you suggest I start with? I currently play Skyrim but I want to start branching out into the other games that Bethesda has worked on.

Fallout 4 and work your way back from there it's most similar in feel to Skyrim and will get you introduced to the series unless you want to start with Fallout 3 so you can appreciate how far the series has come since or you could start all the way with the first game and work your way through if you want to appreciate the older games before getting spoiled by the gameplay of the 3D games

Fo4 is easily the most beginner friendly especially for someone who's only familiar with Skyrim

If you like Fallout 4 you might enjoy 76 start up 76 whenever you feel like it it plays similarly to 4 but is entirely online so it's not quite the "complete" Fallout experience

If you end up enjoying the series do not skip out on the classic games (1 and 2) they're fun and I personally enjoyed them a lot

I just checked the shop for Fallout 76. There is something fishy there. There is a discount on the fallout package. The prices are listed in Norwegian kroner. The game itself cost 379,- but are at discount 94,75. Then there is the "Gleaming Depths Deluxe Edition, with Enclave Armory Bundle added for 299,-.

Now the fishy thing. The price of the individual products are 393,75. But the bundle package is 599,-. I tried to sell it to my son-in-law, but had some problems trying to sell the deluxe edition.

Fallout 1 is fun but it doesn't match the style of the newer games and most people don't like the game format but man do I love fallout 1

The overall quest design across the games is mostly the same.
Writing and humor and is also not too different but you can tell it's a different studio.

Beyond that it's mostly mechanical differences between the classics and new games.

"Definitely Chicago & its vast, already existing network of layers & laters of undergrand infrastructure, with stuff like The Deep Tunnel Project that has been under construction for decades. There are plenty of military institutions in the region. You have the Great Lakes Naval Academy just to the north & the historcal Joliet Armory just southwest of the city as just a couple of examples of the top of my head. When you expand to a regional view, with the Chicago land area being the focal point, you have Wisconsin, Indiana, & Michigan all packed into the southern tip of Lake Michigan Chicago always has been the rail Capitol of the country, with more rail packed into the region than any other part of the country. It's an industrial hub. Historical, the area is also known for its large limestone quarries. You can't firget about the vast endless farmland just past the city limits, which all converges & brings all of their crops to the city, to be distributed to the rest of the country. Of course you can't forget Chicago is the birth place of the modern skyscraper. Throughout the decades, it has had several "tallest buildings in the world". Since we area are talking about fallout here, it has played a large role in the birth of the atom bomb. The first atomic bomb was developed in Chicago. hello, i just got into fallout 3 GOTY and the game is not working, for reference I can run cyberpunk on this laptop just fine. but i cant play fallout 3 the game just lags when i look left or right i cant even select an option since the mouse lags too, sometimes a corner of my screen just stops showing any images.
how can i play this game, my drivers are up to date and I even installed the intel bypass mod + i lowered the settings to medium

Well just like the first AC was revolutionary, but after a few sequels it became repetitive. It's the same formula so it's harder to be at an iconic level, the treshhold is higher.

3 is the magic number for series after 3 additions the series starts to get muddied (any series doesn't matter) you can even observe this with classic Fallout going from 1 to Bos

but yeah I'm sure the gameplay will become dated soon

And I hate to bring New Vegas into it but I think New Vegas does a better job at creating an immersive atmosphere in its towns and cities

It’s great art design and entertaining npcs that really is the missing piece to create an immersive city. I think RDR2 does it good, I think the Witcher 3 does it good, and I think Skyrim does it good.

Fallout 3 has some of the most unique towns and cities in the entirety of Fallout. Megaton, Tenpenny Tower, Rivet City. There is a large amount of contrast between these locations and they feel extravagant. I don’t feel that with The Compound, Goodneighbor, Bunker Hill, and I think Diamond City could have been more.

Also one of the best town locations in Fallout 4 is hidden way off into the corner of the map and it’s a Mr. Handy theme park.

Also I think the side quests in Diamond City are some of the weakest and Goodneighbor which is way smaller has one of the most rememberable side quests from that game

Actually two really rememberable side quests with the Silver Shroud and Hole in the Wall

I only really remember Confidence Man from Diamond City and it has weak dialogue

Also I think the end to that questline is actually worse because the dialogue for nervous travis is some of the best dialogue I remember listening to (it also changes how frequently Travis mentions the protagonist; ie less dialogue if you complete the quest)

DC is the beginner town, it's meant to be more as a hub for other quests than a main quest area.

It's where a lot of the main quests, side quests converge

After that you discover the main faction locations which is where most of the quests are just like in NV

Nope, no companions, not rn at least. I looted the shop where Jessup and two of his cronies were holding up, then I started checking the ruined buildings for loot when Kowalski ran up to and started yelling at me. I thought it was because I'd looted a 10mm SMG from a bathtub in one of the ruined houses. I rolled back to the auto save I made as I left the Jessup's store, and just stood there. Kowalski ran up to me and started yelling at me. So I reloaded that autosave, left the ruins and headed back towards Novac, and Kowalski was still following me. I FT'ed around and thought I'd lost him, but he found me near the Gun Runner's shop. I reloaded another autosave, FT'ed back to the GR shop and he was standing right there in front of the shop. I'd finally had enough so I lured him over to Fiend territory where he tripped some frag mines and was blown up. I didn't want to do that, but I didn't have a choice. Dude was likely to follow me all over the map. I wasn't going to do something that would negatively affect my rep with the NCR and I sure as heck wasn't going to apologize for something I didn't do.

PS: NPCs run stupidly slow.

Try the NCR ranger who gives you the emergency radio or the NCR trooper on the strip who gives you the note from the ambassador. Even with travel light they are quick.

i just watched the movie "Threads" and realised how close Bethesda got to quite realistic for post nuclear apocalypse, especially the look and mood of the capital wasteland.

Everything gone, everything destroyed, no food, no clean water... very grim. It's more realistic than you might think

for reference: Threads was made to be a realistic imagining of a nuclear attack on the uk in the 1980s, theres no happy ending, no america saving the day, people raiding each other for dead rats for meat...

the terminal entries in fo3 and fo4, and some in NV honest hearts of what happend right after the attack, are pretty much what happens there, and this is why i love the fallout universe.

It’s one of the core themes of ghoulification present since the first fallout. There’s a reason there’s a ghoul settlement in almost every single game

I like Fallout 3 because it is dark and looks and feels wasted, where else can you pull a teddy bear out of a toilet that looks and smells like you would never actually touch it? The green/grey hue, dirty pestilent surroundings, foreboding music, there just isn't much like meeting that first Deathclaw the first time armed with a tire iron. It would be nice if everything was useable, being able to find used objects and be able to restore condition to similar items, upgrade mods etc. Likewise open spaces, I have always wanted to climb those rubble piles to get into the next area, peek into and enter all those empty buildings, watch out for collapsing roofs and floors.
