Quick Question to the Community:

Whose familiar with the Sophie face preset mod?

And, this is especially important: Who knows the distinct facial features?

I ask these questions because I would like to recreate Sophie in Fallout 4, but without the mod installed. I still have some achievements in the game that I want to get, believe it or not.

I already have a character created, but I've been held up with not being satisfied with her looks, and it's made the game unenjoyable (which happens a lot, I assure you.)

I figure if I can just get the specific types of facial features that are used in the Sophie mod (on the PS4, I should add), I could re-create her look and feel hopefully feel satisfied with it.

I have been trying for the last 3 days to fix a bug, I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix it, || during the railroad ending nuclear option when I talk to z1-14 about starting the revolution so the railroad can teleport in (this is my first playthrough so please no spoilers for the actual end of the game) after I finish talking and he says I need to kill everyone in the room the game just crashes, if I dont move my mouse around the game crashes and it crashes if I turn around so I think it just crashes after a certain amount of time, if I just go up the elevator and try to shoot anyone it crashes, i've tried having no quests active, no power armor, no power armour helmet with hud, no dlc, loading different saves from a while back ||

ive also looked around the internet and i've found some people with the same problem but no one seems to have a solution, I also tried dismissing my companion, verified the file integrity, and uninstalled and reinstalled

also sometimes when I try to teleport into the institute it crashes

I was playing a survival game, when after i slept, this weird audio bug appeared, it made a radio like sound every 5 or so seconds that lasted for about 3 seconds. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, the pipboy radio wasn't active and i verified the integrity of the game files, none of these lead to success quashing the bug

Quick Question to the Community:

Does anybody else see to have a recurring issue where the sensitivity on one of your analog sticks, presumably the one you have set to control the camera / vision of your character?

Well, just seem to go weak for some reason? (sorry, I pressed enter too early on that last one)

Le me put it this way - the right analog stick, which is the one that I have the camera / player sight set on, loses it's function sporadically as I play.

More specifically, it seems to not work like it should when I try to turn right

Now, I originally dealt with this problem before, but that was when my old controller had horribel stick drift, which after many different attempts to fix it, I ultimately threw it out for a new one

I've had this new controller for a little over a month, and now it seems the problem is happening again, only this time it has nothing to do with stick drift

I don't even play rough at all with it, and I've never had an incident where it might've it the floor hard or something - I treat my controllers very well.

At this point, It's either my main PS4, or Fallout 4.

My PS4 is relatively clean - it could use a quick pressure air clean, I guess. Maybe I could find one of those specific screwdrivers to open it up for an internal clean

But if it's not that, then is this an issue pertaining to Fallout 4? I know it's a buggy mess, but I didn't think it's bugs could F up my controllers.

Then again, this happens sometimes in Skyrim as well, so it must have to do with the PS4

I've had this issue many times before. The joystick may need to be cleaned, or, since it's a newer controller possibly an unfortunate defect. Do you notice any odd behavior with the stick outside of those two games?

Tbh, Skyrim and Fallout 4 are the only games I've been playing a lot lately, for a few years.

This isn't an issue with my other games though, like with Man-Eater back when I was playing that for a couple weeks.

Also, if it's a defect, then I'm pretty sure it's way too late to get a refund for my controller - it was brand-spanking new, straight from Sony.

So I clicked on the link, and it took me to the support page, where I followed the instructions to reset the controller - as a note, they should really add in a part somewhere saying when to plug the PS4 back in after you've reset the controller.

Other than that, I just started Fallout 4 back up to see if resetting the controller fixed my issue.

I think the part of the instructions I read, specifically the part about how pressing the PS button on the controller after you've reset it should be explained more specific about things

And... nope, still there. And like before, it only seems to affect my ability to turn my character's camera to the right in 1st & 3rd person

Turning left? No issue whatsoever.

Hi there! I'm new to Fallout4. Playing on a win10 PC and bought the game off Steam.
I've played the game for 6 hours, saved it during that time but now, as I start the day, the "Load" (game) option is not active. It seems like I don't have any saves.
I've checked the files directory on local and I don't have a "saves" folder.

Could be you've got cloud saves enabled in Steam and somehow they're not working. Did you let Steam do the saving and uploading properly when you quit playing? It can sometimes take a long time

So it's not about Bethesda needing to fix Fallout 4, but rather your mods need to be loaded in the correct order and be compatible with each other

Sorry to bother you friend, but I just wanted to let you know that I finally got my controller working properly again... I mean, not that it matters to you, but you helped me and I thought you'd like to know.

And all I needed was a can of compressed air, to give a serious clean. I sprayed for a good minute in & around my analog sticks, my buttons and my center touchpad.

Now my right analog stick is working again, and I can turn my camera to the right just like I can to the left now.

Still, I'll keep an eye on it just in case.

Piper is marked essential and cannot die, she can be injured and you can use a stimpack on her to bring her straight back into the fight.
If you have the Vault Tech DLC you can go to a settlement, build a vault tech population management system terminal and use that to find her.
It's possible the explosion launched her into the distance with Bethesda's notorious rag dol space programme physics 💥😂

What do you want in games?

FO4 has everything in it’s genre and alot in other genres

Like it got the FPS and TPS gameplay, which is really flushed out and smooth, it got a great story for a RP aspect, and it got varieties of missions and fun little adventures spread around the world waiting to be explored

Outside of Genre it got Building System, Settlement System, You can create your own companions, with some mods you can create a personal robot army/companion army, it got nice minigames that are 2D, some are tabletop games

It doesn’t do everything perfectly, but it does it really well that it’s hard to not like it

Also it got a whole lot of mods that can modify and enchant your gameplay

I personally love creating my own water/drug kingdom, buy and sell drugs and other stuff

If you want a fantastic Fallout experience, I would recommend Fallout: New Vegas - but if you ever watched SAO Abridged, then you'll understand what I mean when I say you'll run the risk of "Algernon-ing" your outlook of the Fallout games.

Sure, Fallout 4 might have better-looking graphics, but that doesn't really mean much when it is lacking in many other areas.

For one, there's the writing - it's simplistic and predictable. Almost every quest in the main game follows the simple "A to B to C" logic in regards to quests.

That too can also be said regarding quest design - there is no real choice in the matter, and you're almost always expected to do either one of two options to complete a quest.

I apologize if I came off as redundant typing those two lines

Any who, then there's the factions:

If you ever watched any video from this Fallout YouTube channel called Schizo Elijah, he pretty much points out how bad the factions are in 4, which largely has to do with writing as I originally mentioned.

Let's start with the Minutemen - 1 of 3 of the original factions to star in 4, they are ultimately the only real "good" faction. Their goal is to help the people of the Commonwealth, to establish peace and more or less create a new CPG.

However, they are so laughably backwards that it teeters on the fence between being funny and being pathetic. They rely on laser muskets, which are the worst weapons to use in 4, and they lack any form of real armor for their troops.

And by that logic, it can become a real chore for a player to build the Minutemen up.

Now let's talk about the Railroad - the 2nd of the 3 original factions to star in 4, they act as the "liberators" for a group of synthetic humanoids that are made by the Institute, and they employ stealth-espionage & guerilla tactics to aid in their fight for the liberation of all Synths.

But outside of that, they really come off as the most stupid of the factions, and the argument has been made that they are indeed the worst of all the factions, based on what makes them the Railroad.

And when you take into consideration how hopelessly out-manned and out-gunned they are against the Institute, it's a wonder why the latter didn't just wipe the Railroad out of existence a decade or so ago.

And speaking of the Institute... they are the last of the three original factions to start in 4. Much like the brainiacs of the Big MT, the Institute is a highly-advanced, technological faction that prides itself on developing super-advanced tech that far outshines anything that exists in the Commonwealth, if the not the entirety of the Wasteland that was the USA.

However, what they have in cool tech, they almost lack entirely in human empathy and other emotions. In short, the people of the Institute have no care in the world for the people of the Commonwealth, and some of their most extreme-thinking members wish to takeover the Commonwealth - either by out-living the waste-landers or by enacting brute-force action in the form of stealth-espionage to inject synth plants to gain more control

4's gunplay is indeed better, and it is something I wish New Vegas had - however, the settlement building system in 4, although at first fun, comes off as more of a lazy move by Bethesda for not doing more in 4

Not to mention, it can be pretty buggy - to the point where I actively avoid settlements.

Out of the 1000 hours or so I've put into Fallout 4, most has been building all kinds of settlements

Perhaps maybe that one bug where the number stats for your settlement resources bug out and cause your settler's happiness to plummet, and you don't get a heads-up until it reaches 25 or below?

Or how about how defense does jack when your settlements constantly get raided by low-level raiders, and yet they STILL lose despite having a defense rating of 100 or more?

4 is the most critically acclaimed afterall

People keep acting like FO4 and FONV should have the same exact level of writing, and since FO4’s Writing seems less flushed out, FONV is simply better

But that’s not true, FO4 has its own world with its own story

What FO4 lacks in main told story, compliments in Visual story telling, and better hidden stories

For example, in NV a character can go 5 minutes talking about a single faction, while in FO4 they only have a line or two
And that’s because in FONV the Factions are as old as time there, thus people know everything about it, and are politically involved in them, while in FO4 the factions are brand new, or in case of the institute, well hidden enough that most people don’t know anything except for rumors

So that’s where the terminals and visual information comes to play, if you are to know more about a faction, you are inclined to search the terminals, battle locations, holotapes, bases, etc, to find out about what that faction is

Fo4 is my first fallout game, so trying to get into fo3/NV was pretty difficult. I imagine if I grew up with the games I probably would have enjoyed them though. And as you mentioned, I like the aspect of finding information more than having it directly handed to me. It just gives the player more to do should they be interested in the lore.

It’s just, in FO4 there aren’t much to go off, the only Faction we ever interacted with before was the BOS

As a faction ofcourse

Dr Zimmer and the Railroad agent in 3 don’t count

While in NV the factions are all well developed and mentioned in previous fallout games

And the ones who are not, are greatly explained in the game (same as RR or Institute in game)

So it leaves much more for options

I personally prefer new factions than old factions, because newer factions feel much more unique

Like the MM are a “by the people for the people” faction that shows the struggles of similar values in the wasteland

Or how the RR are the morally ambiguous robin hoods who want to save the synths, yet don’t care about humans or the wasteland

It seems that the west cost and the east cost games are going different ways

The East cost tend to introduce new factions while flushing older factions but focusing on the main character more

While the west cost tend to recycle the older factions while adding multiple iterations of the factions and leaving the main character up to interpretation

Some might like the east cost’s way, some might like the west cost’s way

At the end of the day, it’s all up to interpretations

There are two pieces of clothing that I have looked all over for and have yet to find them One is the Wrapped cap, and Two is the matching outfit the Tattered Field Jacket.

You can find the Tattered Field Jacket on the body of Ken Standish in Jamaica Plain, he's found in one of the destroyed houses along with his wife Tanya iirc, I don't think it can be farmed by killing.
The wrapped cap can be bought from either;  Becky Fallon in Fallon's Basement within Diamond City.  Daisy in Goodneighbour. Cricket. Trashcan Carla. Tinker Tom at Railroad HQ. Or Diamond City Surplus . (When in stock).

Hello folks, quick question do I always have to disassemble my scrap or is it enough if I put my scrap in the workshop, the workshop then automatically disassembles my scrap when I build something

Any item in your workshop or junk tab of your inventory will automatically be broken down for the required material while crafting.
As laborious as it is though, it's better to scrap the items yourself. Relying on 'automatic' scrap can waste components not used for the item you are crafting when something with multiple components is broken down.

Question to the Community:

In the quest "Human Error", is it possible to not kill Honest Dan if I don't bring him to the Compound?

I'm trying to do a minimal-to-no named NPC death run in Fallout 4 - but in regards to this quest, there's no going around the fact I'll have to kill Amelia to finish the quest with the citizens of Covenant alive & allied to me.

I've been reading up on the quest via the Fallout Wiki, and it doesn't mention anything about him either going or not going hostile if I simply go to the Compound by myself.

I just don't want to go back to Covenant and have Dan shoot at me or the people of Covenant - not to mention the off chance he'll destroy one of the turrets, which can't be scrapped & they don't respawn upon being destroyed.

Or now that I think of it, him killing one of the Covenantites

I haven't tried approaching that quest in such a way that everyone remains alive and passive.
If you aggro a settler you can leave the cell and return a couple of in-game days later to find they have become passive again.
On this premise maybe you could try leaving Dan behind, free Amelia but not return to Covenant for 2 in-game days and see if it resolves to your liking. (Save first of course incase it doesn't)

Then you want to reply to them, letting them know you are trying to log into the Creation Club on the Xbox and you have tried those steps and you require further assistance. There can be a multitude of reasons this can be happening and they will be able to troubleshoot it with you to get that resolved.

This is anecdotal, but I bought everything full price when it released and I think I got my moneys worth. Not sure how comparable it is to any fallout besides 76, but if you enjoy basebuilding, gore, making robots, collecting/displaying armor/guns, (these are my reasons at least) then you'll probably like fo4.

So, I'm kinda in a predicament. I'm trying to install mods in fallout 4 but it requires me to sign into my bethesda account. I tried to find my account but the email that gets sent when I do that is the create account email. When trying to fill it out, it says I already have an account connected to my email. The next thing I try is the "I forgot my password thing." When I do that I enter the only username I've ever used for anything and it says I sent me an email. The problem arises from the fact that I don't get the email. Anyone got any suggestions on what I should do next?

The Nuka World Transit Center is on the south west border of your Pipboy map, just a short south west of Sunshine Tidings Co-op settlement.
It won't appear as a location on the Pipboy map until you reach level 30 and are asked to tune in to the Nuka World radio transmission. Although you can walk there and find it manually at any level.

After clearing the Transit Centre of hostiles you enter the Nuka World monorail subway and the Nuka World quest line starts from in there.

You can also try removing his aggression using console commands.
Open the console, click on Nick and type resetai, hit enter then type setav 2bc 0,hit enter then close the console.

I do know of a bug on the PC version where after allocating your special points using a controller, either you can't move the cursor up to enter your name or the the cursor doesn't show. (entering a name for your character completes the registration process)
If this happens, simply unplug the controller and use the keyboard. Once done you can plug the controller back in.
I play on PC so for console I have no idea..

I can fix the issue temporarily by limiting the refresh rate of the monitor, however I want to avoid the fuss of doing that constantly

The iPresentInterval setting in your .ini files = 1 by default.

In Documents > my games > Fallout4 you will find 2 files with this line.

In your Fallout directory there is also 2 files.
Fallout4 Default.ini
Fallout4Prefs.ini
Change the value in the line iPresentInterval =1 to 0 in all 4 files and save.
This will disable vsync and remove your fps limits so you will need now to fix your fps to 60 (the default for fallout4) in your graphics card 3D settings.

Mines a Nvidea card and fixing the fps in the 3D settings is global on my system with a gsync monitor. So as I had more control I downloaded Nvidea profile inspector, that way I could just fix fallout 4 to 60fps and any other games left at default or what I wanted.

Oh just a note: if at any time you need to and use the 'verify integrity' function on steam it can reset to default any changes you make to the ini files.

I want to verify something I read on the Fallout wiki, regarding Nuka World.

According to the Fallout wiki page on the Nuka World perk, Pack Alpha, I can still obtain this perk even If I had assigned the parks to either the Operators, the Disciples or both.

Is this true? My plan was to assign two parks to both the Operators and the Disciples, and 1 park to the Pack.

Originally, the Disciples were always the one gang I'd shaft for the Operators & the Pack - but after reading this about this, I'm feeling pretty excited over the idea of getting all three perks if all I have to do is give them Commonwealth outposts.

You can't get all three perks, the gang who gets the least of the 8 territories (5 parks + 3 settlements) will always betray you. I think what the wiki page means is that if you did not give the Pack any parks, you can still get them to not be the ones who betray you by giving them three outposts.

Instigating is one of the best effects, because it actually doubles the full damage, unlike two-shot which only doubles base damage the weapon. Works best for a stealth build, with the right perks you can kill almost everything with one hit.

It can be quite a buggy mission. If you jump off the roof in the PA too soon you can miss a Raider that spawns on an inaccessible roof top and sometimes there's one that hides from the deathclaw in the sewer entrance the deathclaw came from. It also can get bugged if the deathclaw kills the named raider instead of you.
Have a good look around.
If you are on PC you can open the console and type setstage mq102 122 hit enter and it will complete that part of the quest.

Question for the Community:

So, just a bit of context - Recently, I decided that I wanted to level up at least three perks that have something to do with the companion that I have with me at the time.

For example, I would level up Rifleman, Sniper and Mr. Sandman when I have MacCready by my side - or Sneak, Idiot Savant and Black Widow w/ Deacon.

But having started a new character, I'm trying to figure out which perks best relate to Piper.

Having looked over her perk, Gift of Gab, I'm thinking I should probably swap Deacon's Black Widow for something else so I could level that up with Piper, seeing as it helps to boost persuasion success with men.

There's also VANS, which relates to Gift of Gab in some minor sense regarding one's ability to traverse the wasteland.

Now that I think about it, I think Idiot Savant would work best as well since both it and Gift of Gab affect EXP yield, but only in niche & rare situations.

So, I guess I should level up Black Widow, VANS and Idiot Savant - all good perks, in a way.

That means I just have to figure out what perks I could level up with Deacon aside from Sneak.

The engine was still built around an FPS limit during Fallout 4. If you forcibly remove that limit, which you can do, you'll likely end up breaking some things

Curiously the FPS limit also affects your loading speed, so the trick is to limit your FPS to 61 (or thereabouts, I forget how much and why) with ENB while playing, and disable the limit while loading. Although, that can also cause some issues

Your mods should be located in your Data folder:
My PC > (the disc both fallout 4 and vortex are stored on) > Steam > steamapps > common > Fallout 4 > Data.

If you have any mods that require F4SE you need to launch your game with the f4se launcher.

It sounds to me that, since your old save, you have installed more mods and one of them is affecting load up of a new game.
Have you recently installed, an alternate start up mod, a quest based mod or any that affects gameplay or storyline since your old save?
Those kind of mods should only be installed/activated after leaving the vault or at a specific point ingame. If you have any of those, read the mod description/mod posts carefully (check the mods bug page see if others have issues)
It's not a Vortex problem, it's a mod problem.
Uninstall any recent mods, verify file integrity through steam, try to launch. If it launches you can install the mods again, one at a time, checking each time until you find the culprit mod.

By default Piper is marked essential and cannot die. Sounds like the mod edited her status in your files.

You'll need to go back to a save where she is still alive.
If you remove the mod make sure you follow any uninstall instructions if it has any.

I am literally fuming. I have been trying to fix this for like days now. I use no external mods (I used WeMod once for like unlimited something idk if that's causing it to crash) but I have reinstalled the game three times, I have changed Fallout4.ini file names, I have updated my graphics cards, I have new windows updates, I've done literally everything the websites suggest. I don't want to lose my progress. What should I do?

Fair enough. So the resolution I typed in the ini wasn't the same as the resolution on my tv/pc (I made sure they were all consistent) was using, so when I was forcing it to go fullscreen, it was forced to make a black bar to fill the empty space.

Quick save, open console, click on the doodad (tree or whatever), should show an ID number, disable...if you want to be able to enable it back then jot the ID down (or take a screenie)

If you disable the ground or something, just quick load

Maybe even make a proper save before you start using disable, but it's not that bad if you're careful

I've used it tons around my settlements to get rid of stuff that scrap mods don't remove

Also since it only disables, you can always enable them back as long as you have the IDs

I really, wish the guns made sense. Not so much the energy weapons but the actual guns. The guns available when fallout 4 was in preproduction function realistically and better than the designs portrayed in the year 2280? Like even the old weapons like revolvers and lever actions. Can you correct the reload animations and maybe make the non single action revolvers double action? They exist. They been existing.

Bethesda fixed the reload for lever actions and that is good, credit for the team.

but the flame thrower vanilla range of 15 feet? mini guns shooting nerf darts. The assault rifle being a shoe in for an incomplete chinese assault rifle? And some of the pipe weapons just not functioning or feeding properly.

And the 10mm being super sized despite 10mm pistols existing for a long time with minimal size difference with the same ammo count

and even the combat rifle using .45 acp instead of 5.56 or a .308 equivilant. Its not a combat carbine? Its a combat rifle so why is it using a pistol cartage? And if the .45 acp being the chonky round it is. why is it stronger in the combat rifle than the thompson?

And I didnt even touch on the missle launcher. Vanilla break action Im okay with its interesting and matches the wackyness of the fat man. but the clip upgrades make no sense.

I love fallout 4, but the guns need to be better for fallout 5 or when you do the aniversary tune up for fallout 4

1. That still doesn't make sense. Look at it this way. IF there were a line of guns exclusively made with power armor in mind right? Then why do they not have any of the advantages in mind when doing so?

2. If non power armor guns were made, how come they work just fine while in and out of power armor? The guns do not become less effective or more effective.

3. Even if the first two points are wrong. How do you even begin to explain the utter failure of guns performance such as revolvers in 22XX all being single action? Even in that specific example I cannot fan the revolver as fast as I want as if it is red dead redemption.

My conclusion is it's not. And they did a very poor job with the guns. The gun play has been the best its ever been for the fallout series when 4 came around. It is in many aspect more stable and balanced than 76. And bethesda did amazing work in some aspects of the game. The guns and big guns need to be re-evaluated, retconned, and done better.

There is only so much room you can get away with when guns, more specifically rockets, ballistics, and kinetics that we use today compare to sci fi.

If you played the first few fallouts there were alot of pop culture references to films and books. I know this is confusing because unlike a series of tittles that go by "Boarderlands" It's not just lines of utter nonsense like butt station or poopyfart thrown in. I believe the BB gun and the reason why it was strong low ap cost and high crit rate (obviously done to high) is the fact its also a toy and that there was a certain movie by a christmas story were a kid was warned not to shoot thier eye out.

You know what they should do, get someone who knows a couple of things on the guns and make data sets on whats wrong with the guns, bugs, or why they are not efficient as they like them to be. Redesign the new updated look and implement them in 76. Then when fallout 4 anniversary around 2025, Retroactively update them.

fallout 4 takes place after fallout new vegas time line wise and 76 is before fallout 1. The era were these other guns would exist and had existed.

Cause if this is the idea of futuristic ballistic/kinetic firearms. Then Bethesda might as well give me a flint lock for starfield.

Maybe they will make it a flintlock laser pistol

They say if it ain't broke don't fix it. Guns are broken in many ways in fallout and they need some love and I say that with as much love as possible. A Glock seems more advanced than them and it's made from cheaper materials

Random Observation: It's kind of weird to me that all four of the Creation Club player houses are in the same general area of the map. I hope when the program picks back up they explore some more off-the-beaten path locales like the SSE ones did.

there's a problem in comparing "Realism" to "Criticism". Most people have agreed that Fallout 4's guns are just terrible to look at, and gameplay wise, makes no sense whatsoever. The game just has a large amount of terrible design decisions from the devs when it came to it, such as giving the players a Minigun in the first part of the game, but because such a concept can tilt the scale of balance off into incredibly easy, they did three things that ultimately made the weapon absolute garbage:
-Made the ammo incredibly hard to find and not in high quantities, therefore you have to reach a vendor that at least supplies it.
-Made upgrading it demand a high rank of Gun Nut, therefore it's locked in place
-and finally tuned it's damage down to such low degrees, that because of the design of DR/ER, it's garbage right out of the front gates.

All for the reason of "kewl" Factor. It all feels lazy, like the lack of double action for the revolver, the combat rifle not taking any rifle rounds until you hit a high gun nut, The SMG being garbage despite having to encounter it in mid game, etc.

So it's less of "haha, this is Fallout, waaacky" and more of "Why did they do this?".

it's also another reason to look at the 'weapon customization'. While there was some creativity, like the baseball bat, other weapon modifications were just left bland and rushed, like the SMG locked into .45 and not able to use other pistol rounds, therefore it has to constantly fight the Combat Rifle for it's ammo pool until you finally get a combat rifle into .308.

and the revolvers, oof. Left in the dust and not taken care of at all.
