So, Settlers are weird. If you leave guns around and stuff, they might loot it and equip it themselves if it's a higher value

So you have to leave it on a spot you can only get to like by jumping or a terminal or smth, and if you want your Companion to be better armed you have to do it manually.

Although, it's worth noting early; all Ranged weaponry of their base gun, they have unlimited ammo for. IE: Piper has unlimited 10mm ammo for any version of the 10mm pistol. I'd say Deacon and Preston are two of the absolute best of the companions in that regard, since Preston can use a Laser Musket with deadly efficiency and Deacon uses a Hunting/Sniper Rifle that can be built for some very high single-target damage.

Settlers are the same way, although they almost all use either Pipe Revolvers, Pipe Bolt-Action, and Pipe.

God I hate companions in this game. You finally figure out some big-brain play, got your plan ready, and what do they do?

Stand in the exit path, you can't get past them, and you can't get away before someone notices you and blows the plan.

Or they pick fights. A ton. Why, no I wasn't planning on walking past that entire chamber of armed guards who I saw had molotovs by pickpocket-viewing. Thanks for the party though, Dan.

Yeah, I got that. Dogmeat getting hurt just made me sad. I just got really irritated with human companions when they go pulling trouble for no freaking reason.

i need help with understanding settlements ;-; ive been googling alot and couldnt find the right answers. how do you manage settlements? like which settlements should be strictly farming, which one is for manufacturing, which one to hold settlers or basically, how do you manage your settlements? i just have the tendency to sort all my settlements ;-;

I really don’t think it matters what settlement does what

If ur planning on having a farm for food I’d suggest having Carrots, Tatos, and Razorgrain.

Why? Because they can be used to craft soup.

Everything else is alright but you’re better off getting those 3 items growing.

It doesn’t really matter where you want to farm for ur settlement all that matters is where you want to build your farms, etc

though do note by increasing the amount of food your going to have a chance for raiders to invade and stuff so get lots of defense

You don’t have to babysit on the settlers once they’ve been assigned a job you can just move along with ur day and go explore the commonwealth

Manufacturing requires you to babysit it. It can vary on what you want to make. Since you need to feed it the supplies (like ammo) so u’ll need to make supply runs when ur machines get low on supplies.

I usually recommend manufacturing be placed in a big open area like ||starlight drive in||

Can anyone confirm if the storage in The Prydwen quarters is safe? I'm assuming that interior cell doesn't reset and items stored there won't disappear.

In your personal bunk foot locker and further in with the BOS when you get your cabin your items are safe yes.
Just don't forget to remove them if you go down the route of destroying the Prydwen 😁

Also with manufacturing you have to be in the settlement for it to produce stuff you can't load it up and leave. It won't make them automatically while your gone.

IIRC, it's depending on what weapons you're using. If you can burst them down, gun the legs since that's their weak point for... uh, some reason. If you can't burst in one or two goes of VATS, do your dangdest to gun their head to shut down the laser.

If you're Melee... uhhhhhhhhhhhhh... hope you have something super strong like Pickman's Knife or try using Mines to snap out the legs.

Assaultron beams are so stupid dangerous, but if you can take out the legs alone they're significantly easier. They'll also self-destruct too

I can’t say it’s a mod issue because I’ve had this happen on complete vanilla plays. Swapping out companions doesn’t work either because the new companion behaves the same way. Anyone know of a fix? A) He's a Companion. He'll even side with you if you picked a fight in the Prydwen, as long as you don't kill a named character and thus become an enemy of the Brotherhood.
B) He's one of two characters with "hidden" power cores, a trait shared with one of the named BoS named characters because she's in a perpetual armor frame

Each person has their own quick Likes and Loves. They generally get affinity just from travelling with you, and as long as you don't like consistently do things they dislike it's fairly quick.

However, do note. A few companions can get locked out of their perks, namely Deacon, Danse, and X6-88.

Danse will have to be the last one you do iirc, because his max affinity cannot be reached until after the BoS quest "Blind Betrayal", and I think you have to side with the BoS at Mass Fusion for it.

Which means X6-88 can get locked out by becoming Banished.

Otherwise, uh, I think all can be gained in a single playthrough.

Danse can be locked out if you become an enemy of the BoS, X6-88 if banished, and Deacon if you become an enemy of the Railroad (or have yet to complete Tradecraft before getting Tactical Thinking or End of the Line)

i had the same sort of thing happen to me on console. ctd after pushing start. i had erased everything everwhere and reinstalled, still happened. it stopped when i cancelled the console’s attempt to synch data. after that i managed to start a new game, and a new save seemed to overwrite the synch data

Your best chance for a resolution is to ask in #fallout-support.
Tell them what platform you play on (if on PC your specs) and the exact nature of what is happening ie; if it fails to launch or is launching with black screen etc.

From my experience, power armor suits never despawned. But if you have a fusion core in and there is an attack at the settlement, sometimes your settlers will use it and misplace the power armor somewhere

2. Don’t actually raid the settlement or you lose Garvey so instead you can just kill the backup you get

Hmm there’s a back entrance you could use outside of cola cars. It’s barricade and can be activated, then just lock pick it and run through. There might be some raiders that spawn on top that don’t actually affect the other gangs, then run through the normal entrance

I think the problem with Strong staying in one spot is in most settlements there's not many places he can get into because of his size.

Nah, turns out cars have extremely wacky physics and explains why it's mostly that blue-green model of car.

Aka, sometimes it loads in and registers as being in a constant state of falling... but isn't actually falling. So it still builds up contact damage that heavy objects get when falling, but isn't actually moving so touching it deals ridiculous contact damage and kills.

I've noticed that a possible fix for this is to blow up the car, so that the car is stored on your save file as destroyed (and thus a different object, presumably). I haven't been able to confirm it conclusively, though.

There's a car near Swan (just outside the Nu Cafe Ola, a CC creation) that kept killing me, but after blowing it up the problem seemed to disappear. Could just be a coincidence though.

It’s likely just stuck in a state where it’s moving rapidly. It pretty often happens with objects that get loaded into another object or get stuck in one. Blowing the car up likely made the car clip out of the object.

So what faction is the canonical ending for Nate? Is it the Brotherhood of Steel? I feel like that is the most logical, only because the Brotherhood of Steel was created by ex-military members and a lot of the soldiers shared the same hatred for tech. I think it also is reasonable because of the fact that the Brotherhood of Steel hates The Institute. I would think that the BoS would be the most logical choice? But I could be dead wrong and it could be the Minutemen for all I know.

And Dance returns to the Brotherhood when Maxson comes to his senses.

Idk. I feel like the BoS would NOT allow Fusion power to go unsupervised. Even if and that’s a hard if, Fusion power was brought back online it would be guarded heavily and most likely the BoS would put a tax system in place to all settlers who use it.

Maybe the BoS rebuilds it instead and rebuilds the Institute as a base of operations.

Or, they just simply slaughter all Institute scientists involved and harvests the tech for themselves

Actually, when it comes to GPU dependent games like FO4 the Series S is weaker than the Xbox One X. The Series S only shines when a game is CPU dependent.

I really don’t see how this is possible. I have a Series X and Series S. Both new gen consoles and they handle the game the same completely. I’ve not had any stuttering or any kind of lag or crashes. Another thing I would like to note is my older generation consoles sound like a Jet Engine going off when on Fallout 4. The Series S and X are completely quiet.

Hey so I tried to contact support about this a few years ago and recently tried to today but I think that they really need to put an update out for fallout 4 because the performance is terrible on last gen and I used to have a launch Xbox One from 2013 and it would be constant dropping frames constantly crashing in the main parts of Boston. And to make matters worse if you own the season pass like I do you can't even go into the main parts of Boston you'll keep crashing constantly to the point where you literally lost your save and you have to start away from the beginning if you don't have a past savethat's how bad it is. This is kind of my last ditch effort because I tried contacting support and they just told me that I should just try contacting developers so I'm hoping a developer can see this and that we really need to get fallout 4 fixed because it's unplayable in a lot of cases and I've done everything the support has told me to try to fix the game and the only six I've actually found is I had to upgrade to an Xbox series s and I still have crashes and frame rate drops when I go into the main parts of Boston but it's less common than it is on my old gen Xbox. My sister has my old Xbox now and she loves the Nuka world DLC. But because of how unstable the game becomes I can't let her play because the DLCs just make the game unstable. And this is 100% vanilla I do not want to mark my game because I like vanilla fall out as is and I've tried The unofficial patch before and it didn't really help and I know we're going to be getting a next Gen update next year and I'm really hoping they can fix the performance issue on last gen. Cuz I've spent so much time in this game across all platforms that it's just really hard to stop myself from playing because I can't play it because the game needs to be better optimized. I just feel really bad for all my friends who can't afford to get a next-gen console and they really want to play fallout 4

And they can't because it's constantly crashing and giving them frame rate drips and I've even helped my friends before to try to do the same things I did that I got from Bethesda support to fix the game and the same thing happened where it did nothing. I just really hope something good can happen in the game could get finally fixed and optimized because this game isn't going to have good longevity and people are going to forget about it just because it's unstable and you can't really play vanilla if you have the DLC. Like if you take a look at fallout 3 and fallout New Vegas yeah they're not perfect they have bugs and glitches but they still work better and they don't crash constantly and have frame rate issues and people are still talking about them today because you can play them vanilla and you don't have the mod the game to play cuz it's really sad that you would have to mod a game just to be able to play it again. like I don't have the time to mod games anymore nor do I have the patience too I just want to play the game and have good nostalgia and it's really difficult to when I have to spend hours upon hours to mod the game for it to either not work or to get it to work and then I have to go deal with life again.

Well I mean technically every game I've played that has an extra update on Xbox actually downloads a separate version of the game that has different files and when I was transferring my games from my Xbox One to my Sirius s a lot of them said we have to update this so literally it reinstalls the entire game and then delete the Xbox One version

So technically the Xbox One version in the series versions of the game would still be separate but they would most likely still share a lot of the same things so I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to make an implement for the Xbox One version first and Port that's data to the Xbox series versions of the game in PS5 and then enhance everything from there

That would be most likely the smart way of doing it because then they can make sure that they're going to get the best performance out of the series and PS5

They would be separate instances of the game, but not necessarily have separate code on the server they're downloaded from. But either way, I'm just talking potentially, not how it actually works case-by-case. Idk. Only Bethesda knows.

Depends on the game and how the developer handles it. I had a few that only downloaded a next-gen update which was pretty noticeable as the update was half the size of a full download and others like The Witcher 3 which I'm waiting to finish updating is downloading a separate version of the game.

He said because Fallout 4 is built differently than Skyrim, is isn’t as simple as what the Anniversary Edition was. Get Armorer to 4 (or was it 2), Pickpocket 2 and Blacksmith 2 and you'll get strong armor stats for nuka world armors at almost no weight.

In the next Creation Club update I'd like to see a scrapping bench added. It's a pain having to drop junk on the floor in order to scrap it in build mode. Some of those junk items, like lighters, are so small and blend into the floor in some locations.

Since an update later next year will happen, please buff the coursers! They are just way too weak for what they lead up to be. As much as a rework to its combat would be great, just buff the health and damage it deals. I hoped for X6-88 being an amazing companion but he’s just such a letdown. Coursers really need a buff!

So I'm going through the Automatron dlc and have Ada along. I dismissed Piper and sent her to Hangman's Alley(where we were when I dismissed her) but instead of staying in Hangman's Alley, she walked all the way back to Diamond City. When she got there she then walked to Nick's office.

I don't recall exactly, but there's a part in the main story when You, Piper and Valentine has a meeting to go visit the memory den.
It's just after you fight Kellogg, although I think it's supposed to be at Piper's house. Unless she's roaming the area doing her journalist work, when she's on her own.

With 3 Corn, 3 Mutfruit, 3 Tato and 1 purified water, at any cooking station, you can make vegetable starch.

Vegetable starch is equal to 5 adhesive

Duct tape yields 1 adhesive, wonder glue 2 and economy wonder glue 5. Glues are harder to find but there's plenty of duct tape around.

They won't have any effect on the main story in the Commonwealth, like removing the BoS, Railroad, or Institute.

So if you're sided with Railroad for example, you can do them instead of the Minutemen and also do the raiders during that.

This issue appears to be the result of other sound fixes, but in most cases it happens if you’re using a RealTEK onboard PC audio card and outdated audio drivers. You can resolve this issue by downloading the latest audio drivers from either your motherboard manufacturer’s or RealTEK’s website.

Ironically, this makes Railroad the best faction to side with of them. Since their whole objective is just to save the synths from the Institute really, once their job is done and the Institute is gone

The BoS is out of the picture, the Railroad kinda dissolves, so the Minutemen restore themselves to the dominant faction.

The thing about the Minutemen is that they also eventually become the largest faction in the commonwealth by far, when you build up the settlements and more and more Minutemen show up in random encounters and with 23 bases of operations, all vastly stronger than the Railroad hideout, with more defensive capability than the BoS and with better access to topside resources and a better economy than the Institute.

This is largely my reasoning. The Railroad ultimately is going to become a small faction who recedes to stand side by side or under the Minutemen, and RR/MM is a faction combo that won't hurt each other in any way, since the synth rebellion and then evac code means those who could escape did, RR makes people more okay with synths, etc which just makes the Minutemen better over time as the RR go down as local heroes, not much more.

There's also a way to innately get 12 of one SPECIAL stat, except Luck and Endurance I think

Which is, at 10 of that stat, using a consumable that reduces it to 9 or lower and then using the YOU'RE SPECIAL book in Shaun's room in Sanctuary.

Up the stat by 1, and then when the consumable wears off it'll go to 11.

Then grab the Bobblehead

Two notes:

Multiple Settlements have one innately. In fact, there's even several just throughout the world like at the Lexington Red Rocket (which isn't a settlement). The only main faction hub that don't have one to begin with as well is the Institute.

You can create one anywhere, but this requires 7 CHR (I think) and Local Leader level 2. A considerable stat and level investment, and honestly only worth it if you're pretty into settlement stuff since you can get some Legendary gear and really good merchandising from that, and it gets better with DLC.

I've found a new issue in my game very recently, I seem to have major FPS issues when exploring some areas with a bit more Flora, most notably behind Orberland Station where the UFO crashes I get around 40 to 50 fps, same for Vault 81 up on the hill. Other areas like cities and north-west part of the map seem to be fine from what I remember. I do not use flora mod, although I use an ENB. Any help would be appreciated!

So, I'm not a programmer, forgive my ignorance here; but could it be possible to have a mod created using an opensource AI like OpenAI or StabilityAi that would give NPCs in Fallout 4 and Skyrim novel responses and the ability to input novel questions? Maybe even integrating voice recognition so you speak into your mic and the character responds to your speech?

Well I don't think much of a change would be needed, per se, since modders are already applying it to other game engines, like Modbox and UE. I just think it'd be cool if something like this could be applied to the non-essential NPCs, like the Gunners, or various settlers that join your settlements. If the AI could be trained to use the story lore, it'd mitigate OoC and non-immersive responses.

Stealth Field on the CSS broke again. Dropping it and picking it back up had no affect. I had to unequip it, save, exit the game, load the game back up, reload the save, drop the suit and pick it back up to fix the stealth field. This needs to be fixed in the next update, this is rediculous.

Howdy folks. I've been getting the run around on this and cannot find a solution. Found a bug in Fallout 4 Game Pass version. Infinite gas can explosion bug. I ASSUME its the gas cans. I do not have the issue with cars or with other explosives.

You'll want to disable all mods. Some mods can have unknown effects due to others, and while you may not have any that alter explosions, it could be that there is a conflict.

I really hope Bethesda is aware of the constant crashing on both Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. It's really really bad on the Series S, not as bad but still far too frequent on the Series X. Based on the reviews for these games on Xbox, I'm certainly not the only one. Seriously, my mom's F4 crashes upwards of 10 times a night. I really do hope Bethesda is aware of this. 😞

There is a guide for the "best ending", where you'll remain allied to as many factions as possible, and they won't be hostile to each other, however there are some caveats to that

idk if this is a hot take but everything new vegas does wrong, fallout 4 does right and vice versa

which is why they both are my favorite fallout game

for example the environments: new vegas is spread out too far imo and the POIs are either too bland or are amazing.
On the other hand, Fallout 4’s entire map has something interesting to see when exploring but the POIs either need an expansion(Goodneighbor and Diamond City, especially goodneighbor) or are semi-interesting.

New Vegas has a complex reputation system that I really like but it has its flaws.

Hey @solid shell once you have followed the steps suggested by MuhChicken and forced your system to recognise the primary GPU (hopefully that works) there are a couple of other steps that might help stability.
There is a commonly known issue with the range of RTX cards that causes random crashes. This can easily be helped by turning off weapon debris and god rays in the advanced settings of the launch window.
Sometimes those settings can revert to default on the next launch, a quick Google on turning them off permanently should find you the results needed.

Installed Fallout 4 for the first time on my PS5 and it installed without any errors. Onde the installation was complete it bring up the New Game menu...when I select New Game it takes me to what looks like a bathroom scene with a woman standing behind the man and she says a few words and then nothing...They just stand there and I am unable to move at all...none of the buttons work except the one that allows you to add MODs which as I understand it you have to be logged in and linked to Bethesda, which I finally figured out and logged in and linked. My question is 1) why do none of the buttons or controls work? 2) Do I have to play with Mod's?

Pretty sure I know which one you mean, where you can destroy the Institute while skipping Tactical Thinking (Which is usually required beforehand)

Which is done by doing the Institute questline and Brotherhood questline however you see fit, but at Mass Fusion telling Proctor Ingram instead to get Spoils of War.

Then as a result, you can go straight into The Nuclear Option, issue the evacuation code to "save" the Institute members but destroy the labs, and complete The Nuclear Option with three factions happy

And the Institute gets the short end of the straw, but it's still alive kinda.

Also, just found out, if you never give Ingram the Network Scanner holotape you'll never get Tactical Thinking either.

And that quest, simply getting it will screw your good ending of being allied to 3 factions.

You can only find a select few that will be a random event around the game. And you may get synths in your settlements

The Institute as a faction is gone, but humans and likely a great deal of Gen 3 Synths will be able to escape.

The game ends with BoS ending if you complete the Nuclear Option.

The guides often provide more steps than are actually needed. It takes a lot of hoop-jumping and breaks a few NPCs, but it can be done. Just wish it'd been written in. An uneasy peace between the factions would've made more sense than every one of them wanting to kill the others off.

The only one this really works with though is Railroad + Minutemen vs BoS vs Institute

Although, theoretically, it is possible to do all of the above lore-wise

But not mechanically, since the methods for these are either post-game or removed content.

You'd have to become Director of the Institute, in order to begin conditioning the Institute more into accepting Synths as living beings birthed by machine, in order to make the Railroad no longer a targeted force, as Director you could prevent Synth replacements which would make the Minutemen content, and you'd have had to do the removed content of challenging Elder Maxson to a duel to the death over Danse's life (thus, becoming Elder of the BoS) and resolving the situation as best you can as Elder.

And being Elder would be a way to not only say that they wiped out the Railroad (as a lie), Shaun would die happy and you'd be Director, which... happy ending for everyone!

I found her RefID so I managed to move her down to the basement, but she's still not moving. I teleported her right to the platform outside the vault door and still nothing.

I managed to fix the problem. I rolled back to a previous save which, thanfully, wasn't that far back. I went to the hotel and cleared it of Feral Ghouls before I went to speak to Pearl. After I spoke to her, I met her at the hotel and we proceeded to the basement with no further issues.

SOS, game keeps crashing during highly important moment

Namely, Taffington Boathouse is my largest... well, just the only raider settlement I have left. Trying to clean house, the game crashes upon having what seems to be two or less Operators alive.

I'm not entirely sure what in the world is causing this, as it used to be pretty populated and wasn't having problems prior, even against Sinner and his gang.

I'm on PC, using no mods.

Current companion is Codsworth.

This isn't that kind of problem; it's relegated only to the Boathouse.

And that's the weird thing. I've handled much larger encounters with no problems, such as raiding the raiders in Bradberton Amphitheatre and The Parlor

And no other Raider Settlement has caused this problem

I've also had combats go down with many more bodies hitting the floor, weapons as a bonus, so I don't think it's an entity thing

It's incredibly unlikely to be my graphics driver, files were verified beforehand, and this is DLC/Vanilla with no mods

You need perception 2 for rifles and agi 1 for guns unless doing Vats those stats are garbage charisma is needed on survival to 6 if you want to have settlements connected

Psychobuff and Bufftats are ur friends for runing and tanking add jet and u can go barehanded kicking stuff

DPS wise first 10mm is the most optimal strongest weapon when fully upped especially if u obtain legendary variants even if u want to sneak its still optimal people doing no hit runs use it that shall tell u all

So, I built an Automatron useing a Sentrybot head, Assaulton torso, arms, legs, and shock claws, outfited her, from head to foot in Hydraulic Frame armor, named her Arcee, and set her up on a supply line between Longfellow's Cabin and Dalton farm in Far Harbor. And she went on her merry way. That was a few days ago irl that I did all this. Tonight I loaded up Fallout 4, loaded my save and started up the road towards Dalton Farm. On the way, I ran across Arcee. I was shocked to discover that she had reverted back to her default Protectron form, and her female voice had reverted to the male voice. I had to take Arcee as a companion just so I could fix her. I was able to fix her, though I did have to console command some stuff in to do it. I dismissed her as a companion so I could reset her as a supplier for Dalton Farm, and Dalton Farm is not showing up as a settlement option.

I need help I don't know what happened but I was playing Nuka-World and had gotten the one of a kind T-51C nuka cola armor and I put with the rest of my power armor on the Prydwen and after beating Nuka-World I wanted to move my power armor so I went back to the Prydwen and when I came back only my T-45 was there I already had one in nuka world and I had the special t-f1 right next to the t-45.
