frankly i think each rank in the science tree and tech tree should unlock new modules for the related part, like geology get scanners and rock study suites, biology gets well flora and fauna storage and study areas, and stuff like that

i've pretty much retired from making mods, too, and life has been better as well. i still contribute to xedit, maintain pyro, and maintain master of disguise for skyrim and auto loot for fo4. but i don't create anything new anymore. i'm doing real-world level design and making so much more money than anyone is making mods. 🤷♂️

too many rpg devs are stuck in this mode of thinking perks/skills have to be about incremental changes to power curves, so they end up producing entire perk/skill trees filled with nothing but +1/2/3/4/5 pts to whatever effects. you, on the other hand, try to evolve the gameplay in new and fun directions.

I've been thinking about Curiosity and I don't think the Ordinator approach will work here. It could use some perk tweaks, but Starfield is more of a "content" game instead of a "system interaction" game like Morrowind and Oblivion. In those games, making crazy builds that break the game is part of the fun, but Starfield combat is meant to be streamlined. I think "fishing" is a much better way to handle things - adding independent new systems instead of changing vanilla systems. 🤔

Perhaps my affinity lies with roguelites, except those tend to be gameplay-first to the point of having a very tenuous relationship with realism. Myrkrið is meant to be a more "realistic" roguelite. 🙂

i think of it more like: do you want +10% sneak attack damage, or a sneaky gap closer ability? and 9 times out of 10, you opt for the ability - because it has a meaningful impact on how the player enjoys the game.
yeah, imagine if Dishonored's skill tree didn't give you anything new to do and just incremented stats.
Another thing is that you shouldn't make options intended for a certain build. This sort of non-choice is exemplified by "do you want this sword, this staff or this bow as your quest reward?" Instead, you should make options that benefit every build in some way, so there is actually a choice to be had. I think Mannaz/Freyr (and Imperious before them) do this best: bosmer don't have +10% bow damage or even a fancy bow ability, they have a bird that marks random targets with vulnerability. This sells the bosmer fantasy and creates gameplay regardless of which build you pick.

I literally just had to do some ba2 extractions and edit a couple things for the creation kit to work… now the game itself is broken and it wasn’t before
I figured out if you open an explosion in the CK, then try to duplicate an explosion, there's a 50% chance the CK will crash and close, lol. So, if you need to make several explosions and want to use Duplicate, duplicate several times, then edit each one.

Can anyone tell me how to modify the value highlighted in yellow in the screenshot? The actor value is DamageResist but player.setav or player.modav fails to change it, I have no buffs or stims and I've disabled all my mods, I have no idea what is causing it to increase. Thanks! I'll give someone a donation through kofi if they can help me fix this.
Try player.forceav, and I imagine there's also player.dispelallspells if it's an active buff of some kind

player.dispelallspells didn't work but the other one did! I don't know if it will create any future issues though, here is what it looks like now.

Yeah me too, it was 260 earlier but I disabled all of my mods, even the CK official mods and it persisted.

I don't know, I don't have anything special going on, no cheat mods, no food buffs, no addictions, stims, anything. I don't think skill perks alter that value either.

Do I NEED blender or a similar program to alter the color of textures? Specifically trying to change the orange of the vanguard spacesuit
One other thing that is really odd, my armor always has an extra +60 phys resistance.
and what sucks is, I don't think you can reduce individual armor resistances, the only value I've been able to find and test increases all 3 by 20

Yeah, you're definitely right, there are some that reduce resistances.
Yeah, I've basically reduced my guy to no traits, no perks, everything, I can't prove it but I think it was a mod that I installed and then uninstalled and the values just stuck in the save.
What does the warnings file say?

I got a really good piece of gear with sentinel and I was at like 900 something phys resistance, nothing was touching me haha
I'm extreme for enemy damage and player damage on ng+11
I got normal for my damages and extreme for everything else and tweaked the environmental dmg a bit since I wanted a space suit that actually protects against elements and not feel like glorified bubble wrap with a O2 tank
Yeah, I really should lower player damage to normal or something, make it more realistic and not as spongey
Wish it was like shipwreaker or metro exodus where your helmet could crack and such and have to do an emergency repair until you manage to limp to a bench or a breathable atmosphere or something along the lines to fix it or replace it

Nope, I was but with the issue in having I'm hesitant with loading up more mods.
I deleted a good chunk and downloaded a light saber one but I'm now having problems with it not activating the skill tree for it

The skill tree is sapposed to work on e you reach the first temple of go into some Starborn power tutorial.
But I already had The Starborn powers so not sure if it's meant for a fresh character build

@sharp lynx Hi! I'm glad you're here. I recently started using your luxury houses (love the design esthetic!). I noticed while attempting to place a house down in a difficult location that the foundation wouldn't reach all the way to the ground, even though the house was only elevated about 15' high. The terrain was bumpy so the house placed at the highest point on the plot. Thank you for any insight.

It was a relatively flat peice of ground with a rise on one edge. I can screen shot it next time I'm in that location if you wish
The house settled on the risen point and the remainder of the foundation was elevated enough so I could go underneath the house

I will say if you put them down and raise them past the foundation level you will be able to go under the foundation
I really think it's just that particular spot. The house has to be rotated specifically before it can be placed and then the center point rests on the high bump in the flat area, which causes the whole house to rise up. It's just a bad spot to attempt to build. Your smaller rectangular houses fit fine there.

hi tank girl, can I ask you a quick q pls? Are you able to get preview art into the build menus through the CK? I'd just like to know if it's possible or if I'm butting my head against a brick wall as I can't get icons to export from the transform object in CK...not sure if it's just not working as intended right now or if it's just me not doing it right....hard to know without the documentation available yet

It's a bit of a complicated system for sure, as of now I haven't gotten them to work either. the only example of a whole art menu object in the ck atm is the outpost turrets

you'd find that by opening any of the turrets construction objects and it will be listed there in the drop-down box by art menu object
Honestly it's just I'm trying to figure out terminals with the new system. Not a lot has changed but those are definitely one of the things with the implementation of menus and stuff

thanks, yeah I've found how the other objects get their preview icons.....they have dds icons stored under \textures\workshopicons, textures\inventoryicons, textures\shipbuilder icons, etc. and there seems to be an 'export icons used by this object' button in the transform window....but I can't get that export button to work

and the other issue is, if I reference an menu within itself to get it to update, will I be able to properly paginate the menus and keep updating the text contained within those menus
They would tell me the event I need for when a menu gets activated because OnActivate is used for objects in the world

Honestly I gotta figure out terminals regardless. It's all part of the same thing. I have to figure out how to interact with the quest script I made to call the functions when I click a button in the terminal. The loans, banking, and stock market are all part of the same mod. I'm going to try to get the first version out soon but I'm stuck on calling stuff from the terminals. I also have to update the terminal text with the globals and stuff so players can see their account balance when using the terminal or how much they have left on their loan and stuff

I also got stuck on this and discovered the render camera is way off and you have to move the object almost off screen to get it in the icon exports.
I ended up just using a different method for my icons

What I'm looking for isn't in them because bethesda changed the terminals.
Now menus are separate from terminals themselves and both can have scripts but I don't know whether the script being on the terminal will work for the menus or if it needs to be on the menu. But I need to update globals and do other stuff before the terminal is activated
So I'm flying by the seat of my pants and trying to figure this out because I don't know what to look for that does something similar to this.
Bro why does reloading take so long on my series x?
Besides the globals (which for some reason aren't getting updated. my guess is the script isn't getting called properly on activation), what I'm trying to do isn't normal terminal behavior and the change bethesda made makes thing a little more complicated because I don't know if there are events specifically for terminal menus opening when all you needed before was just an OnActivate in a script on the terminal itself to update the globals and text replacement strings
That and I also don't know what the heck to do to call my core scripts from the terminal to execute functions in it. If I can figure that out then I could get the banking and loans working and release that and work on the stock market while people use the other systems.....So time to dig through scripts

Honestly? If you want to learn a bunch on your free time I would check out the fallout 4 Reddit mod pages and check out how the load orders are structured. Now if you want help like right now. What mods have you tried? What issues are you running into?
I had a good save until I over loaded my list so now I'm experiencing a crash every time I try to load into new Atlants.

It might not be an over loaded list at all. Some of the mods have caused issues. Which makes it hard without knowing what ones you’ve downloaded recently

When I read this last night i immediately went looking for global variables and found some. went to bed thinking "that'll be easy to implement"
NO! This is THE seven layer onion dip of weird coding. I set those global variables for GiftMax and GiftPercentage to ZERO (meaning the max gift should be 0 and the percent to take should be 0) and the game STILL YOINKED 500 CREDITS!
I have no clue how the hell, or where the hell, it's exactly pulling info from. I'm looking into SQ_Traits right now since the use info points there.

I think globals already saved to your save file can't be modified directly by editing them. You might need to have them modified during runtime by using a script.

If you don't want to write/compile/include a custom script, there are usually plenty of existing scripts that you could use/abuse to modify a simple global.
If I recall correctly from Fallout 4 and Skyrim (likely the same in this regard), the game loads the base ESM files, then overrides those default global values with those from your mod, then overrides those with what's in the save file when it loads that.
So, you could do something like add a dummy quest that starts automatically in the background, add an alias for the player, add an ability to that alias that uses a magic effect that uses a script that sets the globalvariable(s).
You could technically just add the ability directly to the player actor, but that's bad form because it's more likely to conflict with other mods that also modify the player actor.
If you don't want to mess with dummy quest aliases, you could also add the effect to an enchantment on a piece of wearable equipment (clothing, armor), or add a workable script to an activator like a standing button/lever...any mechanism that will allow the global to be set during play, after the save has been loaded.
the issue i run into with those methods is the reward of not paying rent is tied to an (theoretically, during gameplay,) everchanging value. if the player goes below that value, they (should) lose that reward instantly

I've never used Kid Stuff or looked at its mechanisms in the CK, but are you trying to change the amount of money you lose, or trick it into thinking you've abandoned your parents to homelessness?
You may want to take a look at the Darkstar mods, one of it expands on the NG+ system and allowes you to get a ship that does not count towards the ship limit and roster but stil is chooseable by ship techy's

i have a reputation system set up utilizing the affinity system. The player completes missions on the faction's mission board (in this case for the UC), giving them "rep" with the UC, and unlocking rewards that are gated. I have the requirement gating all figured out and set up. It's just modifying kid stuff that ahs me scratching my head

So the player could lose rep, either by cooldown or doing bad things, and then the UC would stop paying the parents' rent (in headcanon/mod lore), so the amount would go back to 500. Got it.
yup yup, that is the plan
So I'd create a magic effect (set to constant effect, self) that uses a script that sets the global variable to 0, with conditions on the effect checking for your rep stats or whatever. Then, duplicate that effect and change the property for that globalvariable to 500, and switch the conditions so they match the "bad" rep condition(s). Then make an ability that uses both effects (only one will ever be running at a time), make a dummy quest that starts with the game but is invisible to the player, add a Player alias, drop the ability into that, and pretty sure it'd just work.
For testing, to save time, just add it directly to the player actor and see if it works. Trial and error until it works, then do it "right" so you don't conflict with other mods.
You could also just edit the properties in the script in SQ_Traits to point to whatever globals you like, but then if someone else ever makes a mod that affects properties on that script, you might have a conflict issue.
Anyway, I'm sure you'll figure it out.

But generally, I'm not very knowledgeable about animation mods. I've tinkered with existing animations and furniture mechanisms and made use of some in a few of my mods, but never made anything custom from scratch.

Lower the weapon by holding reload/sheathe and put away weapon from lowered state by holding reload/sheathe again. Raise weapon with ADS. The animation happens when you get close to a wall, the weapon lowers. It’s more noticeable if you peek out from behind cover/corners often. I was given this information, but not sure if it’s feasible to make the mod plus I don’t know how to use the CK
Call PlayerRef.PlayIdleAction(ActionGunDown, None) in the First Person version's Papyrus script. You'll need to have a script to handle the animation changes (e.g. add conditional statements and such) otherwise the idle animation or the player input can break

Yeah, and once someone knows how to do that, I think a lot of other interesting things would be possible too. And sure; happy to share knowledge if I have it. I come from PS4/PS5-exclusive Skyrim and FO4 mod authoring, so I'm generally only familiar with things one can do with zero external assets. I still keep all my mods that way, in the hope that one day we'll get Starfield on PS5 and I can instantly publish all my mods for those players. I doubt I'll go back from XBox for BGS titles given the better content available with external assets from other authors, but I remember having very limited content and I always want to take care of that community.

To be fair, I'm also not very artistically inclined, so I wouldn't make much use of external assets anyway 😁
My only real limitation for the type of mods I make is having to use existing scripts and mechanisms in unique ways, which is frankly part of the fun for me. If I could just write my own scripts, none of the mods I've made would have been nearly as fun to figure out as they were.
And that's an interesting topic in and of itself, how creation of mods becomes a minigame and sometimes the main game for some of us, lol.
I’m right there with you in the lacking artistic ability, never been one of my strong suits. Also cool that you look after the PS community, such a shame no external assets can be used for their mods. I remember telling myself that I would make the switch from PS to Xbox for the next BGS title when Skyrim first released in 2011. Remember watching my buddy play on his Xbox 360 and how many less glitches he had. I ended up lucking out with the release of FO4 on Xbox being my first BGS title on Xbox and the release of mods for console being better for Xbox. Was bad news when we heard Sony wasn’t going to allow external assets. But great to hear you’re still thinking of PS players as they got the short end of the stick. I’ve never really checked out PS mods for Fallout of Skyrim so don’t know if they’re just forgotten. Also you’re stealth ring mod is pretty fun to just wander around and see what npcs do xD

Vehicles will be a game changer surely, so many mods added daily that the first thing I do is load up creation menu on game to see what's new, I like the new points of interest mod that adds a new farm to explore and the new safe houses :3. the only thing that annoys me is the crash I have when trying to access creation menu on the game. Have to go into appdata on pc and delete the catalog file and it let's me load the cc store without freezing.
But then it happens again and I have to repeat over and over

Is anyone having an issue where starfield crashes as soon as you open the creation menu. The music keeps running but the game freezes. The only way to fix it is to delete the games manifest file. It happens almost every time I dont delete the file.

Its odd. From what I can tell its not a mod causing the issue but the creation manifest file itself. I think stsrfield is struggling to sort load orders.
Its a different mod each time. I keep a copy of the file and fix the version number now

If you open the manifest file in %localappdata%/starfield search for mods with a version number of 0 and delete the info on that file. You'll only need to re-download one mod
Ya I made the mistake of using my normal save file so now I'm stuck with it, don't really much care for achievements anyway;D.
The version number starts with 0 and will have a u/ in it.
Oh I see, I didn't know that. I've just been deleting the catalogue file so my cc store wouldn't crash that's the only workaround I knew of
I am working on yet another outpost mod and I am kinda stuck on an issue that only happens when loading the game after reopening the game. It resolves itself if you fast travel, and it only affects the immersion, as the issue does not stop the mod functionality. The problem is that I've been stuck with this issue for a few weeks. I think it is an impactful mod and that would bring something good to the Outposts. I am considering releasing it with that known issue. What do you guys think? I've been having some help from the nexus forums from some awesome modders, but I could not find a fix yet.
I mean, if you do want to release it with the issue just note it in the description and continue to find a fix you can throw at it when you find it.
Whilst it’s released, people can give you criticism and advice how to improve certain parts blablabla but it’s entirely your decision

Is this a mod request forum? It just says Starfield mods. Would anyone be able to do an overhaul/ edits to the expressions and poses in Photo mode? The poses we have are good I'd just like more. Most of the expressions need to be edited. Additional ones would be cool but if the current ones could be edited, that would be awesome. Also, if we could have more options for piercings, tattoos, makeup, nails (Cyberpunk made me think of that) and make them apparel we can craft/buy instead of going to Enhance! every time. An Enhance! board like all the faction mission boards would be nice, as well, so we don't have to go to the main cities to change something. I'm 150 hours into this character. I want them to be exactly how I want them (if possible).
.dds (BC1/DXT1) Generate mipmaps / apply gamma correction if GIMP, BC7 (DX 11+ Medium) Generate mipmaps bicubic (Use gamme correction) if Paint.net --- This is how I have formatted the .dds files.

I'm starting on a mod, and idealy I need to be able to check the player's commerce skill, to adjust credits given accordingly.
The only way I can see that Bethesda expose a perk rank to scripts is by the rank's entry table setting a quest stage in the PlayerSkills quest. For example, the Skill_Zoology perks sets quest stages 801 through 804 for the four ranks.
My problem is that the commerce perk doesn't do this. I could add commerce perk tracking, but that would only work on new characters (or characters where the player hasn't invested any points in commerce yet). It doesn't let me find the commerce perk rank if my mod were to be installed on an existing playthrough.
Does anyone know if there is another way of finding out a character's current commerce perk rank? Thanks for any help!

Hey, do you know the creator? I used his hair mod, but there's a bug on Xbox; I'm not sure if this bug exists on PC as well. I ended up uninstalling it because of this. Could you pass this information on to him?
The bug is as follows: when you choose any hair, horizontal stripes appear all over the character's face.

To be fair, I had been on Xbox since the original in 2005. Have had the same gamertag since, too! But I wasn't comfortable with some of the changes they were making at the time and I also figured instead of Investing another $500 into the (at the time) new consoles, Id just invest a little more and build myself a PC. :)

Life is complicated enough. When you can’t eat solid food and are slowly withering away from malnutrition (while running a horse farm which is very strenuous work)… you don’t have spare brainpower for pc. Love my consoles
There are mods that for some reason affects the sounds. It’s not the mod authors fault, it’s an issue within the Creations/Bethesda side of things.
The mods I know atm are Earth Restored, Custom Dynamic Weathers, Enforcer Tactical Pistol

Remove the mod and reload a save before downloading the mod. Your sound will return.

Gotcha. Cause I’ve never had that stripe problem before so I was also going to say it might be a load order thing. Unless it’s a brand new bug that’s happening today. Only bug I’ve found is that the beard section sometimes won’t display anything for like the first 4-5 beard selections starting at the beginning
See, while I am not a huge fan of Sony, I never much cared for the whole "PC master race" or "Console Wars" stuff. I just play on the platform that I feel enables my dreams and creativity, at that current time. :) Heck, I actually use both an Xbox Series and DualSense controller, interchangeably! That is one thing I love about PC vs console, is the freedom of which peripherals I use to enable my creativity! :D

I had a huge pack of chicken so I made lemon pepper chicken (real lemons not some spice mix), with 2 veggie sides. And tonight I’m using the other half of the chicken (marinated in Italian herbs) to make an Alfredo chicken lasagna with spinach, carrots and onions.

Need a full blown hacking system like cyberpunk build into our scanner. Build the scanner into our eye socket. Have it be lore friendly because you’re a neon cyberpunk netrunner. Have it where spacesuits have a chip in them and that’s the lore friendly way of how we hack them. Give us hacks like temporary subdue them with electric shock. An a status effect type hack. 👀👀👀

Most games I’ve seen have a seizure warning. Almost like common practice. I think it’s mindful to just be cautious about things you post in general. Way easier to say than to do. Life’s a learning curve for all of us.
