Also his rivalry with Estelle is now on the defensive instead of offence because he has to stay on top of course

Indeed! If this game ever got made into a show or novel of some sort officially I'd expect the perspective to switch between Julie and Kai (or just members of FrostFire and Ember Monarchs) a bunch. Not just in the "lets give the rival team some time in the sun" sort of way, but because in the context of a narrative built around a sport, I think having your audience be able to support either team without protagonist bias getting in the way would be a big selling point.

If done well you could definitely create media wherein your audience wants to root for both of them.

It was literally right after both mako and the dd virtual novel was released, and they decided to make popularity worth x2 points. At the time I was an ember monarchs fan, so I was absolutely ticked off by it. Even though I mained all 3 dd characters, I sided with clarion in round 2 out of spite. DD sucked score-wise, but they had simps from the recent update, so they won easily.

Clarion will always be the winners in my mind. Despite having no players, they got 2nd through dedication and sheer cookery
