Cast comes off Monday
"dress for the slide, not the ride"
feels very applicable here
I had no gear on but I fell on my 3rd time
For some reason me and my freind hill bombed a highway in the middle of winter
It was super cold out and If a car got too close we couldn't go offroad cause the snow was too built up
You should check out downhill longboarding. Some insane stuff there. I would get into it but it's extremely flat where I live so getting enough speed to hold a slide more than just a quick speed check or a power slide is extremely tough
I was hill bombing a old school 9.75 board
Only reason I fell was from bad foot placement
Jeez and people say my boards big when I skate an 8
my friend skates 8.5 and i think he is much younger than yu. I skate 7.75 and my other friend is skating 8. Imo 8 is pretty normal
Everyone around me skates 7.75 and they act like my board is a 10 compared to theres
lol
i skate 7.75 and skated 7.5 and still all people say oh that's a cute board
here 8 is minimum
Bro that’s wild
I’m riding an 8.25 and that’s the average, but like nobody I know rides less than an 8. One of my friends rides a 9 which is wild to say the least, it feels like a surfboard!
landed my first 2 fs shuvs and my first 2 heelflips today
and landed a flip to turn the board around when it's upside down but they are ez
🔥🔥🔥
Legend
I landed like 4 front shuvs when I learned them and i refuse to do any more
they are so hard i already hat 'em
i just noticed that i learned 4 tricks in 3 days
heelflip, fs shuv, a flip to turn up your board if it's upside down and hospital flip
😇
hey, i was wondering if i could get any tips on my shove its, whenever i try to do them the board doesnt spin a full 180 degrees, but when i try to do it harder/faster to spin the board more, the board pops and hits the ground.
if you have any tips, ping me with your response or dm me if you'd like.
Personally I pop and push into my front foot’s heel
@solar summit my homie explained it like imagine there’s something on your shoe and you’re trying to scrape it off
like there is something on your board, or your shoe?
I swear I need to learn pressure flips but i cant get it
Board or shoe?
Shoe, so when you do the pop shuv/shuv imagine you got gum on the bottom of your shoe and your tryna scrape it off and that’s the same motion you wanna do on your board
just tried 20 minutes straight heelflips while rolling but didn't get one
heelflips are trash kickflips are cool and hospital flips are god
Going to my local shop you guys need anything?
nope and i am in europe so if i'd need something you couldn't help but thanks
agreed
i just cannot Land Heelflips
i can somehow barely land varial heels but og heelflips? No.
i suck with frontside shuvs 😭
body refuses to go back
imagine if your board didnt go a mile behind you when doing anything frontside
i been leaning forward too much recently
gotta get my treflips down once and for all i always land left footed
i do Not know where to go with my right leg
(goofy)
happens always. you must jump a mile behind you and when you are lucky you land and if you are much luckier you actually land and don't slip away
primos with a sprinkle of dislocated ankles 😵💫
aaaaaaargh
can you send me a pic of your foot positioning?? Bc I'm tryna to find a good treflip foot position
I don't get the full rotation
its 90% your backfoot
10% front foot
its usually right foot very near the middle of the deck with a slight kickflip foot angle
backfoot is on the left part of the tail, just a little more left to get the big pop & scoop
@exotic kettle
backfoot pop & scoop hard
right foot just has to get out of the way
swipe it right away
and lean in forward
then its all to commitment
thanks
Can someone help me ^^?
Depends, whatcha got? You said kickflip help in general but specifically what do you need help with?
I can't turn the board
I was at the skate park again and it was okay at first but then kids started popping in. I tried my best not to get in somebody’s way but I got in a scooter kids way 2 times I think. I didn’t mean to btw. There was a man dropping his toddler (with a scooter) off on the skate park. Idk just a irresponsible parent because that kid could get really hurt. And also the dad who dropped of the kid was WALKING in the middle of the skate park and basically getting in others ways 🤦♀️ then 2 more kids came and they ran up and down in the mini bowl. They were also in the middle of the skate park. I get so annoyed at people dropping their kids of that don’t have any knowledge and the parents themselves also sometimes go in the middle of the park and they think that they aren’t doing anything wrong. I’m not mad with the scooters I’m mad at the kids who ran in the mini bowl. They both looked about 8 and 7, the stupid parents leave their kids there with a small peanut brain and they just drool all over the place. Then the parents probably get mad if I accidentally run one over. I would laugh.
The local park at my old house was 90% kids
Using rails as balance beams to walk on, sitting on the stairs, etc
It sucked
guys i grew up in russia, my local skatepark was in the forests, and people were making bbq ON TOP OF THE OBSTACLES there coz it was the only open area around lol. After the bbq they would have intercourse under the mini ramp and it was pretty funny to skate above them while this was going down
Ong nooo
NO WAY
My local park wasn't used much/I'd go there at odd times so it wouldn't have lots of people. Worst there was a drunk old guy that would shout stories of the good old days. It was demolished years ago to put up college more "luxury" dorms. The college had a skate team too, still do, but no skate park.. almost 10 years later there are plans to build one but it's slow. Sad because almost every small town around the area has somewhat of a skate park but the "big city" doesn't
there are zero skateparks in my country
and barely any street spots that are good
like actually skateable
to some good extent
Here is one acceptable Skatepark. It is only acceptable bc the Ground has cracks and stuff and the other isn't skateable.
hi
halfcab
FLIP!!!!
is hard
so true
haven't tried them often. I tried one hour straight half cab flips and nearly landed one but yeah. They are hard
What does element team edition mean?
where does that stand
If you need any help with it let us know 👌
I love a good half cab flip. Especially when they pop nice and get a good flip
i already know you have to think like a varial flip sex change and not a 180 flip
Thats very complex. Too complex for my smooth brain
😂
I treated it like a 180 flip when I learnt them. When you said varial flip body varial I lost myself
However I can do varial flip body varials even double varial flip body varials
Thats a whole can of worms
yeah ok idk i just think of it like i think of it and yeah if you think of a varialflip body varial it is complex but if you are skating and do it then it isn't complex until you rlly think of it
treflip tips?? I don't get full 360 shuv rotation
Full send the scoop. Thats the important part. Have your back foot at the furthest outward point (left if goofy or right if regular) and push down to the floor and to the left or right depending on stance.
If you arent getting full 360 adjust and scoop more outwards, instead of down. Once you find your spot you're going to get a full 360 rotation
aah ok thanks it is so sad watching 7yrs old kids making tres and i am struggling with them
It’s a good day, just got heelflips on lock
Out of curiosity I tried out a couple of tres and i was surprisingly close to landing them
Def not gonna commit to learning those yet though, im still tryna get pressure flips & frontside flips
What size formula 4s do y’all prefer ?
I have Ricta’s now but my last wheels were Formula 4’s, each time I got 53mm
Never tried the formula 4s. I just grab a pack of Bones. Used to ride 52 but got 55 last time
56 mm formula 4s conical shape
i run 51s
nice and easy for turning
dont need big wheels anymore i'm too old to skate around town from spot to spot
Me sitting here feeling the opposite, that I'm too old for tricks so I mainly just ride spot to spot lol
haha
Nevermind what I said yesterday I’m gonna try learning tres
So ive been trying a 3 stair for a day now and i can do a two stair and gaps and small ollies off ledges but this is really messing me up
any tips
Is it true that element boards are for kids?
Not at all. I don't think I've ever heard that from someone before. Honestly, what ever appeals to you to ride, go for it. Only dorks would care that much what somebody rides.
@modern kiln you said you’re around 4’7, what’s your shoe size?
When I skated in middle school I was around your size, I used a standard length deck with a width of 7.75”
Though, you can of course try out any size. I think anything between 7.5” & 8.0” will be comfortable
Okay.
I’m actually going to a local skate-shop tomorrow but cant buy a deck cuz number one im broke and number 2 my parents need to be with me for me to actually buy a deck, trucks, wheels etc.
Just going to look around & see what they have?
Definitely pay attention to everything, take pics or write down what brands/styles you like! You can think of how you wanna set up your board before you buy everything.
Baker boards are fantastic, super durable
I do kinda have an idea in mind.
Whatcha got?
But before I do anything I should probably take a look at what they have to decide.
Go in there with your idea in mind & try to find whatever they have that’s close to it!
What’s your idea?
Well.
I’m looking for something california-y
Kinda like that bright kinda beachy vibe
Maybe like a whit board with black letters or something more vibrant.
That’ll be sweet! You have an idea for trucks or wheel colors?
Wheels I dont really know yet. Trucks I dont have a clue either.
That’s fine! Once you find a deck you like you can figure things out from there.
Is there anything you’re wondering about?
Not really other than griptape.
What about it?
Im not sure if I should do like a design on it. I have no clue if it ruins the board or something.
Like drawing on it, or getting pre-designed griptape?
Not necessarily pre designed like i mean you kinda cut into the griptape and make a design.
I dont even know really.
I’ll probably just stick with the simple version.
Tomorrow ill probably buy sone stickers or a hat or something cool before my first board.
I’d say go basic first, if you stick with skating you’ll always have chances to experiment!
You can’t ever beat stickers.
No prob! Feel free to ask any more questions here.
Depends on how you do them. Ideally as long as you turn your shoulders to wind your 180 up and get the clean 180 youre etc good. Eventually you get your own feel of when to flip the board you'll get them every time.
I do that and have my foot extra angled for the flip to make sure its clean flick and i flick out but almost upward like a tre as you are turning backside, you keep in line with the board.
Try to avoid landing on the tail as you roll away switch youll end up bailing. If you can get as close to bolts as possible, rolling away switch will be cake
Alright thanks, but should I begin the 180 and then when I'm beginning to do it flick?
Yeah early as possible to give you enough time to land
i am 4"7' and i am skating 7.75 for 2 months now before that i skated 7.5
Nice
I’m 5’10, I just went from an 8.25” back to an 8.0”
It’s insane
oh and i changed from 7.5 with high trucks to 7.75 but low trucks
low is so much better
hello 🙂
hello
I couldn't get a single kickflip today and usually i get them pretty often. Hopefully i get them tomorrow again
yo
Hello
i built a rail today. It's not very good but it works
Gotta get by with what you got
yeah
Thinking about making skating vlogs on YouTube for fun, anyone here wanna share their experience with such things?
Is it just me or can you almost (super close) to impossibles but can't even get close to a kickflip
@rocky belfry You have a YT?
I don’t upload anything, but I’m thinking about it. Should I?
yesterday was the one day i didn't have my cam and filmed me and i got a fakie flip, a fakie hospital flip and a bs flip
Okay I’ll try it out!
Legend
I wanna learn bs flips but i can barely bs 180
i hate myself for not filming
Back 180s suck
the bs flip was rlly rlly sketchy and it wasn't really 180° it was like 160° but yeah
Nah bro that counts
It wouldn’t if it was 90 but anything over that is in
bs flips even when sketchy look good
they are nice and i think easier than half cab flips
i don't rlly like fakie
do you like fakie tricks?
I do like fakie tricks
Most at least
Generally doing tricks fakie is easier
Also you have things like fakie big spins which are gorgeous
But i could never go over an obstacle fakie
ig i have to try fakie bigspins
bro you can learn them in like 30 mins
🤣
i’m horrible at shuvits but i did it
😂
yeah tried it one time and was actually pretty close
I dont have kickflips quite on lock rn but whenever i do land one they’re pretty
oh yeah
wait i'll send my 180 flip vid an videos and clips then you can see if it counts @rocky belfry
Which are better for rough streets Ojs or bones rough riders ?
a video would be helpful
Sounds like you’re just nervous and not committing, I used to have that problem. Gotta just force yourself to bring both legs up and you will boardslide
Got my beginner board finally
💪
I’m trying to put the screw for my trucks in but they won’t go all the way in the board. Can anyone help?
By all the way, what do you mean? The top of the screw isn't going down flush with the board or the screws aren't long enough?
I’d send a picture but it won’t let me, may I dm you?
Sure, or you can put it in #irl-skate-pics, either one
@supple slate Landyatchz made a pretty fun video "Longboard vs Cruiser Board" that's pretty fun and you get to see both styles of ridding side by side showing the strengths of both styles if you want to check that out. It helped me when I was picking out my first new board in a long time
Spoiler alert, I ended up with both lol
I’ll prob do the same
I need something to skate the streets of Miami lol
Long board =
More stable, especially at speed. Can fit larger wheels to roll over almost anything. Better for distance. Comfortable platform. Lots of styles and deckshaps to pick from to get something best for the ride you are looking for (tail, no tail, low to the ground for easier pushing, ect)
Cruiser =
Nimble, can fit through smaller areas. Easier to carry around when not riding. Lighter. Better for shorter distances. Can be used for more street style tricks.
You can't really go wrong with either. But one you get into the rabbit hole, prepare to own a quiver soon lol
What’s a quiver ?
Oh nvm
Not sure why or who started it, but a quiver is a collection of different boards you own
Oh, lol. Yeah, it's like the quiver of arrows is a bag with all the arrows in it. Longboarders refer to their collection as their quiver
I’ll prob start with a long board tbh I wanted the battle axe 38 but there sold out so I might get the drop cat 38
Drop cat is on my wishlist for whenever I can justify getting a new one

Sector Nine has a solid selection of cruisers, carvers, "bombers", short boards..

Hi
hi
I really wanna skate rn but I twisted my ankle pretty bad
I was only doing a fs 180 over a cone
And my right foot got caught between the ground and my truck
ooooo
more common that you think, hope you rest up and get back to skating soon. I did this once down a gap doing a pop shove and i've never been able to pop shove anything other than flat since
Thanks, I went to the podiatrist. I should be fine but it’s gonna take at least a month to heal, not to mention physical therapy
I’ve always rolled my ankles cause I played basketball and skated growing up, so I’m actually looking forward to physical therapy and restrengthening my ankle
actually 3 behind each other
#irl-skateboarding-chat any skate shoe suggestions? my birthdays coming up.
thanks, ill check them out
any other suggestions? i was looking at vans half cabs, are those any good?
I can’t speak for them personally, but everyone I’ve seen who uses them absolutely loves them!
Half cabs are super good
Why come nobody likes the krux k5
Krux trucks
I skate krux
I have two sets ATM bc my og tensors broke
But I skated sliver and royal and tensor but I don't mind them they are light and hold up well
how do i get my fs 180s higher?
In general its all about the pop of your ollie. If you work your ollie, your 180 will get higher!
I cant see your 180 so Im not sure how you do it but if you scoop your front foot and push down slightly itll stop the 180 rocketing as much and give the view its popping higher as your board will be more level as you pop and turn
So I got my first skateboard today, I’m really excited to start learning. Does anyone have any tips for someone starting out?
just get comfy with riding around first before learning tricks
Thanks dude!
Adding on to WHY's advice.
No time spent on the board is wasted, even if it feel like you aren't getting it quickly. Enjoy the process
yup +1
If you have riding down all tricks while riding will feel much more easy
theres no meta way to get good at it
just get comfortable on the board
and have fun
fun is the key
if you have fun you will progress if you don't have fun you won't ever progress
Currently trying trying to get comfortable in my board, and having a lot of fun as well ^~^
that's perfect
Anyone got tips for getting into 50/50s? I seem to get my front truck way to foward and my back doesnt get far enough on sorry no video i'll try get one next time it's raining where im at atm
Rain
Wdym by front truck way too far forward? Like front truck at an angle not level to the rail/ledge?
Or front truck on but back truck not making it to the ledge/rail
Nahhhh all good! Sounds like you need to pop that ollie and get yourself on the ledge! You need to commit to the grind
A good training guide would be stand on your board and next to the ledge/rail
Ollie onto it from next to it
If you can make it you just need to put that ollie in to your run up! If not just practice getting a lil higher
Appreciate it dude @lament pecan I think I defs gotta work on getting that back truck up, ill give it a shot stnading next to the ledge ive always found it strange jumping fowards
Hey dudes
hey
guys i stopped skating for a few months bc of a injury and now im rlly bad can anyone give me tips for higher ollies and landing better kick flips
should i like put glue on my skate shoe because its getting a hole
the hole is still small should i fill it up before it gets bigger
Get some Shoe Goo it works wicked
get shoe goo or ripcare
you mean to land and keep your back foot on the board?
yes
my back foot always lands on the ground
when i try to jump with both i cant do it
idk how ill explain this over chat, but try it stationary, without moving first
when you do it, just stomp down in front of you. so shuv it the board front side, then put both feet in front of you. idk if that helps or someone better at skating can explain it better
honestly, youtube it. that always helped me
This is just a genuine question, I accidentally bought a set of extra bushings when I was building my board, they are luckily set to my preference but should I replace the bushings that came with my trucks with the extra ones or keep the extra ones for later?
Slappy Crook tips, anyone?
Have complete disregard for your safety first.
Put your front foot in the concave of the nose, ready to shift your weight into a crook but not so far forward you'll get flung forward when you hit the curb.
Back foot on the back bolts.
60 degree approach or so.
As soon as you hit the curb and your wheels start to come over it, shift your weight into crook.
It feels super unnatural like most slappy stuff.
You're kind of turning heelside into the curb too, but also light on your heel so the front heelside wheel pops over the curb.
They scary, but once you get in once you'll know exactly what to do.
Definitely good to have BS slappies down good.
And of course, this is step one
Learning on those rounded parking curbs a lot easier than going straight for right angles ones too. 🤙
If you’ve got hood California curbs that are angled you’re hood tho.
Any help on how to board slide?
Its easier and better to go fast and lean forward then to go slow and stick. You can put your front foot pretty far up the board so its easier to balance on the rail since you dont really have to full on ollie onto the rail. Hope that helps
ez
just flick your other leg

The Purpose of Braille Skateboarding is to grow the number of people who skateboard by teaching, motivating, and inspiring. We do this by making skateboard tutorial videos covering every how to skateboard video under the sun moon and stars. By learning ourselves and showing that no matter how old or young you can learn to skate. Part of this ...
without any knowledge i’m going bones
Thanks
Also
For anyone who knows how to do blunt slides, teach me the ways plz 😂😇 what tricks should I learn before attempting and what’s some things to keep in mind when trying them?
I should probably learn how to fs and bs 180 first huh cuz I gotta rotate during the pop?
Bones all the way 🦴 🦴
I know people who swear by spitfire and they are amazing wheels for rough ground if you get the cruisers and great for power slides but I’ve seen more flatspotted spitfires than bones in all my research
Everyone swears by bones but ngl i got some toy machine wheels and theyre pretty solid too no flat spots so far
yo anyone got tips for skating shoes? the ones i usually use always get holes under them
Spitfires are smaller and more accurate in the turns.
Yeahh dude do you footbrake a lot
Like hillbombing
Nah its the other foot
I think it is from when i adjust to do different tricks
😦
What shoes are they
guys i spread shoe goo with my bares hands
is soemthing bad going to happen 😅
idk i saw it in some video
i washed my hands and made sure to remove it
You got goo hands now
The dragons are coming
The shoe goo dragons
They must feast
💀
@exotic slate is there something you are trying to say?
i was attempting to ask if a board was good for a beginner
but links werent allowed
There's a captcha you can try to pass, but I saw it's a link to a retrospec brand complete. Honestly, if that's the only board you can get then sure. But know that the quality is about as good as a Walmart board and will not last you long. In fact, it might break on you early when you don't expect it causing a higher chance of injury trying anything on it. Your best bet will be to save up your money till you can get a complete in the $100-$120 range. These will typically have real parts that you can trust. Wheels that flat spot quickly, bearings that actually roll, trucks that turn, decks that don't snap randomly or come in the mail with cracks, ect. These are issues you will more than likely run into with a board of that quality.
what brands do you reccomend?
For your first board you really can't go wrong with any one the major skate name brand completes like plan-b, girl, real, and such. They all are a good starting point. But if there's a shop near you, going there and asking them questions in person while you see all the different stuff offered can set you up even better
If you want a board that’ll never snap get a Powell flight deck 😈
heard so much about them
very tempted to try
Can’t skate in a beanie in the summer anymore man it’s so hot
Think I might get a bucket hat
I just landed my first Tre Flip in grass!
sick!
Guys can someone help me how to do a shove it\
Sick dude
Are you going for pop shuvs right away? If you are you should first learn how to do shuv its and land em also Ollie's once you got both of em down you basically just combine them
This helped me alot when learning how to do pop shuvs its
I can do decent ollies and im trying to do a normal shuvit
Practice ur shuv its get it down like ur Ollie's then start practicing ur pop shuv its
I can kickflip well but shuv its are my worst enemy
same
Anyone has some tips on fs or bs 180s because I can do them both I just can't do them rolling because when I do my board loses the momentum and stays in the same place, think of ollie-ing in a carve but on flat ground
Anyone know why my frontfoot wont land on my heelfips? cuz my backfoot does most of the time
doing them moving and standing still are very different. you'll need a big amount of pop and turn to get the rotation down. try rotating your shoulders counter before you pop and then swing them the way you want to 180 that should help you get the momentum
its either a comitting issue or your heel doesnt have enough time to get back on the board. you might have to adjust your front foot either more out or in towards teh middle of the board. as soon as you pop the heelflip with your front foot you'll need to immediately get your front foot back on the board asap
alright thanks chief
Man, last night I came so close to landing my first tre
My front foot slipped off twice
It’s happening soon
It’s not as scary as I thought tbh
You got this!
im sure you'll land it tonight
I hate how much it rains in my city
I’m building a small box with my dad tomorrow!
Super hyped for it, I sized it to fit perfectly in the back of my car so I can take it to skate sessions
Manuals helped me out with balance, so I’d recommend giving them a shot first, but it’s really up to you.
Both are great fundamentals to learn.
So i am 185cm 68kg and i have 44eu/10us sized foot
I am searching for a skate that i can do tricks on, and be able to ride on small rocks and asphalt.
I am a beginner
Nevermind ill ask a local skate shop
Def do that. But i am 10us too and love 8.5” + decks and softer wheels like 99a
If they didnt help check back here
But skate shops are so good
did my first grind today
what grind?
50 50
Nice on what a rail or a lip?
curb
hell yeah dude good work!
ty (:
youre welcome i need to start learning grinds
yeah, I didnt ollie onto it if that helps
I rolled on the edge of the curb
i think thats best to get used to it
and then implement the ollie
Haven’t tried kickflips in a week or two but tried one today and got it first try, bolts and everything! So glad I haven’t lost them fully, I just need to commit to them more
How do I make my kickflips level out instead of like shooting up
Try flicking more out than up
Im new to skating what should I do to be good
Skate
Go Skate Day is this Tuesday! Hope y’all grab your boards and go cruising! I know I am! 👀😎
I'm new but I do skate irl
Happy Go Skate Day!🔥
Happy go skate day
Happy Go Skate Day, fam!
Happy Go Skate Day
Cracks in the road suck
They really do! It's why I started wearing slide gloves and knee pads when I long board for distance. Had a chunk of pavement the exact same size as my wheel I didn't notice till I hit the ground. Was only wearing a helmet at the time, but my wrist and knees took the brunt
I’ve been skateboarding for over a decade and a large crack in the pavement has been the cause of every single one of my worst slams
Get yourself some 58mm+ wheels, monster truck over everything 👍🏼
Yeah I’m usually fine these days because I don’t skate on the sidewalk but today I slammed on a cruiser board because a huge chunk of the road was missing
My fall was with 70mm wheels
the hanger went sideways because of how bad it was
Oh dang, yeah that's bad
Yeah I have no clue how the truck didn’t break
I do
broo can u help me out i need tips😭
Do a varial flip but scoop as hard as you can
got a clip by any chance
also don’t worry if you can’t 3 shuv I learned those after tre’s
I don’t have a clip of me doing one but I could do some tomorrow and film it
id appreciate it😔
Alright I’ll try to do that then
What’s your problem when you try to tre?
landing
Does it land too far away? Is your back foot landing on the nose?
i put too much weight on my back foot so i end up eating it😔
😔
Make sure you lean back but keep your weight even
I rolled my ankle on one bc I had too much weight on my back foot
you got a clip by any chance so i can observe the whole thing?
Lemme look
bet
Doesn’t look like I do, I’ve only landed two or three unfortunately
it’s okay thank you tho
If you have a clip of an attempt I can try to assist and/or record myself doing it
Anybody got any tips?
For?
don't work for money rob people for it👍
Bet
Yo im late to the party how them tres coming
bad LMAO
Oh fr? No stress you got it. You're headed in thr right direction by scooping it with all your weight at the back. You just have to shift forward and follow the board. Almost like diagonal up to get in front of it
Im digging a tre clip rn
Everytime i do an ollie my board shoots a bit forward and i only catch it with my forward foot. Can someone please give me a tip on how to land with both of my feet on the board?
you might be leaning back and allowing the board to shoot away from you. In order to keep the board underneath you, you need to keep your shoulders in line with your board, staying above the board as you jump and slide your foot forward. You also need to slide your front foot back down towards the floor to bring the board back down and hopefully keep it under your back foot. This is a big part to the ollie which sometimes goes left out
Thank you
Hey dudes i learned the ollie and now im trying to learn the shuv it but i keep falling
I keep over or under shuving it too
Sent a vid in videos
I heard its an easy trick but damn the ollie feels so much easier rn
Ollies were infinitely easier than shuvs for me too, so I didnt learn shuvs for a while
The way I learned them was in the grass. Shuvs are a front foot catch, so what I did was do the shuvit rotation, but only land with your front foot on the board. Meaning, keep your back foot in the air and balance on your front foot, then put your back foot down.
Then, slowly start putting your back foot down faster until eventually they land at almost the same time, then commit to it.
If you find low enough grass it’s not a problem
I wanted to get back into skating but what brand of a complete deck should I get or is the best?
I was looking at a baker or enjoi
I would say baker
Thanks about to buy one then
yoo. What skate shoes do yall reccomend?
non canvas ones cause you'll rip em to quick
but brands are not important tbh, cheapest non canvas shoes that feel nice are the best ones
Suede material will last the longest, nothing too bulky because you won’t be able to feel the board but nothing too lightweight or you can injure your feet
skateboarding truly transcends languages
I met two Spanish guys at a local skate spot of mine, at the the spot there was a two stair I was battling with and after skating with them for a little I finally landed it and one of them gave me a tip on 50-50s
❤️
Has anyone here tried out a surfskate board?
I've got the waterborne surf adapter and tail adapter on a Landyatchz schooner deck (like the dinghy but longer wheelbase) and Paris street trucks, and 70mm Otang 4prez wheels. It's my favorite board to take out for a cruise/ride
Thanks! I only just heard about it (not big in Canada yet) and am super curious to give it a try. Now I'm glad I didn't jump into building a longboard yet.
Do you find it's harder to control, or more tiring, etc?
There's a lot of options out there and all have a slightly different feel. it's definitely a rabbit hole once you start getting into it lol.
I find it very easy to control. The tiring aspect is something that will go away as you learn to pump properly. There's lots of different ways to pump, and it's nice to not have to push. A lot of people use surfskates as surf training and those setups tuned for that will be more tiring if your wanting to use it for distance.
That makes a ton of sense. Thanks again! I think I'm going to have to give this a try. Maybe it'll help with keeping up the snowboarding muscles, too. 😄
There's a reddit for surfskating r/surfskate that has a lot of info with all kinds of different setups and reviews I recommend checking out. I learned a lot there.
If you want to go for distances though. theres a whole nother sub class of longboarding known as LDP (long distance pumping, though some use this same LDP to mean pushing) and those set ups use a similar pumping method, but are tuned to save as much of your energy as you put into a pump and rebound back more so you can go for a lot longer, but they arent great for skating pools and tend to be very strange compared to other skating lol
I see what you mean about being able to pump more rather that push. This looks excellent. Thanks again!
im
I have a stance problem, i can only push on goofy and but i can only ollie on regular
have you tried pushing regular and skating regular?
well i havent skated in a long time 'cause the stance problem is so annoying but when i start again i will learn to push regular
and ollie in goofy is as scary as doing side flip on the wrong side
very scary
I’ve been trying to ollie up the curb for like the past 3 weeks
allat stuff is 100% commitment
u got that
just got to throw yourself at it till u get it
Yeah idk i just sometimes don’t think my board fully goes over the curb sometimes
Pushing is a muscle memory thing. The more you practice in another stance, the better you become. Most of us just don't put in the effort because we don't like feeling unstable doing something we can do just fine by switching up foot position. Keep at it and it will feel better over time
Might fool around and try some Impossibles in celebration
I went to the skatepark for the first time since 2019 today and I was getting my kick flips back, I love skateboarding, I’ve been skating btw but just haven’t had the chance to get to the skatepark in a few years
That teaser really made me want to go and skate today
I’m a pretty new skater
someone should do a transition like a skate 3 stair gap into real life so like in the middle of the jump it’ll transition from skate 3 to irl
need to get back into skating but the only park near me was torn down and there's not really anywhere else
prolly fallen off anyway
one day maybe
go to a parking lot and do some flat ground or find some spots to skate
Felt so weird when one day I went to my usual park as I did at least once a week and it was gone haha.
i do, sometimes, should do more
havent skated properly for a while but being a postman i see skateboards outside some doors, if it feels right, ill quickly do a kickflip or a double.
Would Nike SB blazers or SB dunks be better to skate in?
hmmm dunks i reckon
Try them both on and see which are most comfortable
Just dont forget dunks are always in demand from sneaker heads.... ruined dunks for us all
#skateyourdunks
U gotta commit. Jump onto the curb and land on your board. Think of the Ollie and the jump onto the curb separately.
you'll get it no doubt. keeping weight more forward than back is a key part
im naturally goofy mongo. learning to cut out the mongo was one of the hardest tricks ive learned 😂
Anybody else experience the pain of getting your friend to come with you to a park and then he don't wake up?
back when i couldnt drive...yes, yes very much so i did experience the pain.
All too real
I haven't skated in months due to irl stuff and I found out I lost ollies
leave skateboard by front door. pop an ollie before and/or after work. once a day. s'alllll goooood
i know you said irl stuff
but when you're all good. its like free therapy 🙂 i dont have much free time so i do this sorta thing
Skaters are flaky
Very flaky
Source: am flaky
Update: one foot shuv it on lock it seems
Update
wait why was everybody hating on girl a couple years ago, not in this server just in general
hate on girl skateboards?
my only guess is it has to do with the cory kennedy incident
Girl skaters?
Girl skateboards is a board company/team
Girl skateboard decks are weird, I’ve never really liked them personally
they are super dry, and they chip easily because of that
Deathwish for life..
I’d love to try an Anti-Hero deck but I just do not like their designs personally
i had this sick santa cruse spongebob skate board and i let somone use it then they left it on my yard in the rain😕
Is anyone even here @rustic bough 😭
Discord video call game of skate when
Bring them
Real and Krooked are apart of the same distribution so the shapes should be the same as anihero
They are all Deluxe Distribution companies
Yo I am IN
i’ve been messing with chocolate lately, most of their boards are 7 ply and are pretty good quality so i like them because personally i’m a larger guy
but girl is okay sometimes
used to be a huge enjoi fan, thankfully i realized my mistake
whats wrong with enjoi?
Yeah I don't see why they are hated on so much but I'm relatively new to the skate community
whereas im old and i dont keep up to date. always liked enjoi and ben raemers is one of my fave skaters. i got no idea if its a quality issue or if a skater on the team has done some unholy stuff.
enjoi is part of dwindle distribution, and some people don't like the quality of the wood they use. I'm pretty sure they do their manufacturing processes in China iirc, so the wood spends some time just sitting around as it gets shipped back and forth. They also use resin glue, vs the typical epoxy
I had a Blind deck which is also a dwindle board and I thought it was fine
Don't buy jart skateboards
Totally snapped the nose of a jart board doing a pop shove over a hip....
oh damn. fair enough. still a fan of the skate team tho. i skate plan b & zero decks anyway haha
yo
who doesnt get robbed in rome lol
Painted the lil curb behind my work 😄
cow curb
lol, I love that
it’s a quality thing for me personally, then again i’m currently skating a blind board which is the same distributor
Thanks!
Cool
Can someone help with my 360 shoveits?
By the end of the rotation my foot is cousing my board to spin like a treflip I mean when i have to catch it im doing some sort of a late flip PS.Sorry for my bad english
Adjust your back foot. 360 shuv’s are all in the back foot placement. If you’re actually popping it, and not just scooping it around; you should be able to fix your issue by adjusting your back foot
I feel like I'm almost doing an impossible. So maybe in your head try to make your back foot stay below the board a little longer rather than jerking it up towards your body (which might be causing the late flip thing).
I put my foot in the pocket of the back tail, same spot I do 360 flips from basically.
It's much more of a scoop feeling for me than the feeling of a tre flip. Almost less pop too I'd say.
ik a lot of people that learned tre flips and struggle to 3 shuv now, it's common
Any tips on higher Ollie’s 😦
Practice practice practice
You have to shift your weight forward and lift the back foot up to get some air
Helps to have an object to ollie over for me too. Start with another skateboard on its side or going up a curb and then progressively get higher and higher things.
I have some questions about wax. Are there do's and don't's? When to use, when not? Brands to use or avoid?
Or how to wax or grind concrete
That, too!
Thank you finna practice rn
When i ollie over stuff I think to much and then the ollie is barely off the ground
I had this issue as well, when I was young I would practice most of my Ollies stationary and it completely threw me off when I tried them while moving and over stuff.
After you practice the Ollie so many times, it just becomes a muscle memory thing where you don't even have to think about the trick anymore, so you can direct your focus on the obstacle or whatever you're going after. My best advice is to start practing your Ollies while moving and while looking forward. Don't look down at the board.
This is how I broke out of my "mental block" of not being able to Ollie over stuff.
Thanks for the advice I think it’s the overthinking
I definitely look at the board everytime I ollie
Yeah, you wanna learn to keep your weight centered over the board without having to look down at it all the time. This is what helped me progress really fast.
How are yours coming along?

yo can someone help me ollie normally
idk what im doing wrong but its not leveling out the board
From what I see, it's not leveling out because you aren't really jumping and leaving your backfoot down giving you a rocket ollie.
Might also be using the chair to compensate too much with how forward leaning you are over it. Ditch that chair when you can
thanks very much for ur answer
Yeah I'll get rid of the chair and try get the timing down correctly
heelys are the best skate shoes just sayin
Any people in Baton Rouge la? I need some friends
convo moved from genral hahah
So my brands tend to be a mixture as I use differnt brands for differnt types of boards depending on what I plan to od
so yeah boards i really enjoy creature
for trucks i gotta go with venture
wheels i gotta go with hubba wheels
because I am going back to basics I will most likely buy cheaper parts with replacements so that anything breaks I can just repair it asap
I tend to browse Skatehub a lot
true
good site for brand searching
i'd look into mini logo boards
they're like 30 bucks
Here in england it is like £20 which is about $6 cheaper than American Retail Price
oh thats awesome!
I recently started skateboarding and just went with a discounted complete board. Building a nicer one on the side as I find parts on sale, but I didn't want to risk trashing a nicer board just because I don't remember how to do stuff. 😅
Hi how should I start out skating without having a board
Like, doing strengthening exercises?
Yo dudes I'm planning on going to a skate park for the first time ever tomorrow and I haven't skated I like a month. Are people generally chill with less experienced skaters or no?
Most people, even experienced, are just as self conscious as you are so I wouldn't worry about it too much. I know it doesn't help much with how you might feel while there, but don't let someone's (highly unlikely) possible actions dictate your enjoyment for something you love
Oke thanks :)
Yeah dont stress it too much the locals will pick up on it quickly and might even come over to help
Thats why i love skateboarding
Guys no worries anymore I am here alone
There is bird poop everywere tho :(
J’s came home from skate camp, i learned alot
pretty sure $26 has the same buying power as £20
also love your pfp lol
guessing you’ve seen the episode where mike nolan builds a quarter pipe with his cordless drill?
Anyone has tips if i can heelflip or even half cab heel but still cant do a drop from a box?
I can't even Ollie irl. I just get from point A to point B
i'm real late to the party here but how do you do your heelfips? do you have your foot off the edge of the board or do you do them where you have your toes on the board and kinda pop the heel like i do
you gotta keep your back foot like opposite of your front to keep the board straight, making the heelflip stay straight as it flips
and then its just down to the front foot where you pressure the flip, its a balancing act you have to get enough pop from front foot and flick to get the board to flip around
as for half cab heels. get plenty of speed, you can kinda have both of your feet the same side of the board since you're turning that way. turn your shoulders before you pop. pop and flick the board outwards as much as you can, and kinda have your back foot where you would for a bigspin allowing it to turn with the heelfip. then when you stop swinging the shoulders you'll get the land. it should come around in 1 motion
it doesnt matter if you dont fully 180 at first, as long as you get some of the turn and the heelflip in there you're good
Yo anybody have skate 2 deck for sale
I can Ollie but not when I'm moving
bro i dont think u have read the thing i've written
I think they meant tail drop?
We'll never know. Quick enough to talk to me about me being unable to read... thats common knowledge
Im way too happy to offer skate advice thats the problem
It's not a problem, it's a feature!
ah, yes
been landin the wettest fakie heels recently
do you guys recommend girls skateboards?
ay how much yall think a no comply board signed by rodney mullen thats about half a year old would go for?
Probably at least 1
1 what?
1 rupee
any of you skaters got any martial arts background?
trying to understand how some skaters can bail gracefully and then the rest end up on hall of meat
No martial arts but just expect where your path goes and just keep momentum going if you fall. Try to deflect and push yourself as you hit the floor. Brace one area for impact then gently lean away.
They are. Great shape, nice to skate but they can be less than ideal for durability. Ive gone through a lot of girl boards over the years
I do
knowing martial art help to fall if your skate stop unexpectly like with pebble or a taller than expected curb.
yes but you dont learn how to kip up with martial arts
learning how to fall properly is part of martial arts but its usually from having your legs pulled under you or learning how to leverage your center of gravity
Ever see Na-Kel Smith falling? Guys a legend
But when I was really into parkour back in the day (which is why I'm so excited to see those elements in the trailer of skate) there was a big focus on learning to fall properly. There is a whole martial art of falling/art of falling called Ukemi. That translated a lot into skating
ah im more of a baker board person anyway
I’m trying to skate irl but like my feet were born curved so it’s so hard trying
It's important to just keep going out there and trying! You can do it! 🙂
It takes a while for your brain and muscles get used to a new way of moving and supporting your body.
Even if it's just ten minutes a day. Making it a daily thing helps me a lot.
I used to skate a bit as a kid but I never could balance right on a board lol
I wanna get back into it but I don't think I'd try to do anything other than like, cruise around
biggest thing is just being able to comfortably ride
just keep riding, it's kinda like learning anything, it's gonna not feel intuitive at all in the beginning but keep at it and soon it'll feel second nature
i good skater
Longboards are your friend, then.
that's what 8ve heard,
I started to learn to ride recently and after about 30-40 minutes I was riding well. Turning I'm terrible at and I bail a lot but it was going pretty good. Got a little road rash on my arm and jammed my shoulder though. I wanna get an Arbor Collective cruiser soon
my longboard got stolen 😦 i gotta get a new one sometime soon
try surfskate if you have the chance. it really fun and chill cruising with that
My friend's got stolen out of his car. It was a nice Target longboard
I got a question for yall. Do you guys like boba and whats ur go-to drink for skating?
Should I get Van half cabs or Nike sb blazers
id go with blazers all the way
Gonna be taking a break fromsksting for a few days or so..at it pretty bad yesterday
Vans always make your feet hurt
today i got my first 5 foot drop in
blazers also last heaps longer
vans just kinda disintegrate after 6 months of use you'll get a longer lifespan out of the blazers even under stress
also the supports on blazers are way better
Super true
just buy janoskis. lasts forever and super good boardfeel
do yall fw lakais ?
hmm
But
im thinking of getting them soon
i mostly skate adidas
went through 12 pairs in a year before
etnies
Theres no skateparks where I live 😩
I was about to ask where you lived to see if I knew some 💀 💀 💀
I live in a 3rd world country but there's usually always a skate park in a 30km radius
Can someone help me manual I just can't 💀
Like Kickflips and stuff like that were easy but the Manual 😭
can somebody help me do an Ollie I am brand new to skating irl
Just practice going fast and lift your nose so your tail doesnt scrape. Get it longer each time and youll get it
pls I rly need help
What's happening when you try?
Oof Alex midler just snapped his tail
Guys
If i do Tre's why does my flip not fully rotate. like i get my 3 shuv, but the flip always lands on my grip
Water
Based
Radler
Anyone have a cheap VX, Sony or Panasonic for sale? lmk
where u from
cuz i saw guy selling sony vx2000e for 1 zł in poland on facebook marketplace
america 🥲
My board keeps slipping out from under me when I try to drop in, anybody know why?
slam your foot down and lean forward more is all I can tell you without seeing you drop in.
Ok, thx
Def focus on front foot. Same way you'd ride down a wedge or hill. And don't forget to bed those knees. Don't stuff man it
Try riding back and fourth in a mini or half pipe and pump a little. Once you get that motion try to drop in again
Turning 25 this year
Just bought my first skateboard
its hard, dont give up
wax that doesnt belong to anyone, but can be used by anyone in the park
Roger that, any advice?
dont steal it
hmm, do it for fun and not to be good
doing it to be good sucks the life and fun out of it
celebrate every small advance
getting better is a bonus to having fun not the objective
Solid advice my man. I mainly wanna learn how to cruise around on it with a mate, overcome the fear of falling/losing balance
So I’m starting hella small
oh yes, definitely learn to fall without hurting yourself
dont put your arms behind you ever
number 1 way to break an arm
What does the wax do?🤔
yo
def dont recommended taking a 2 months break of skating
we can't have park wax anymore. the seagulls EAT whole bricks of wax
they eat lighters too like what
They want to be dragons
If anyone wants some videos edited lmk
I can't skate for 3 weeks😭
Finally got my BS flips down!!!!!
learned how to boarslide
ive never even seen park wax bc it just melts or gets stolen
and i wouldnt expect less from seagulls, they would eat people if they just started teaming up
hi guys so i recently got a skateboard and i really want to get into it but for some reason i am scared even though i used to ride longboarfs. Does anyone have tips on how to overcome the fear or something?
Commit just do it as they say 100% of the shots you don't take is a miss
fair enough, thanks
if you mean just staying on a board and going forward, just take it easy and slowly and practice with friend holding your hand. but since you did longboarding you prob talk about tricks and i suggest getting protective gear to nullify the fear.
It helped me to practice falling/bailing.
If I'm scared of falling, I'm more likely to screw it up and hurt myself than if I'm prepared and know how to control my own momentum.
And feeling more in control means feeling more comfortable with the board, too.
I have been a fan of skateboarding for over 20 years now. I never rode myself but love watching others ride. How do I watch at a skatepark without looking creepy?
It's my first time assembling a skateboard myself since I started skating a few years ago, I got a new deck recently (baker) and I'm trying to find the right size trucks. The board is an 8.0 and I'm trying to get trucks off of independent but they don't seem to have a size for just 8.0 and they have 7.25 - 8.0 and 8.0 - 8.50
my deck just says 8.0
So I've had my first board now for a couple days. I had one pretty awesome fall, didn't get hurt, made me laugh.
Getting more and more comfortable just getting on it and being on it without losing balance and falling.

For Indy's on an 8 deck I'd get the 139 sized trucks. Should be perfect
thanks yo
I was talking about balancing and just going forward in general because i just kept falling. I just practised for like 2 hours and I'm way more comfortable already, thanks for your advice
