I'll look around
I live near a skate shop
I got a board yesterday
I went skating
I can do a switch
And go down 2 ramps
I can't skate switch to save my life 😂 I used to be able to switch Ollie but that was about it for switch, but I just picked skating back up after almost 10 years of not skating
I meant a revert sorry
I'm learning how to skate again
My biggest challenge is dropping in
🤨
i have a problem @jagged carbon
i am a goofy rider
but its natural
do i have a disease
yea
what
Looks like a troll
ye
Does anybody know how to frontside big spin?
I can nollie front big
Me too today i learnt a fakie front foot impossible
MY PEOPLE
I can't skate switch either
Pop shuvit
180s
Kick turns at the bottom of a bowl
Impossible
Lol jk
Uhm kickflips
After you learn kickflips u can start adventuring into other flip tricks
Boneless and no comply are some other ones u should learn
PLS
Wait actually yeah

Cool
Work on different variations of ollies like fakie switch and nollie the earlier the better so you get comfortable with them
I regret not working much on those
An always practice straight up riding switch
Bc I've been skating for years and I can barely skate switch
Hello,
I want I to start skateboarding, but I of course want to get comfortable riding around on my board first.
I know soft wheels are good for cruising and hard wheels are better for doing tricks. Should I get soft wheels? I want to eventually do tricks and things like that, just don't know if I should get soft wheels to begin with.
Don't worry too much about the softness or hardness of the wheels when starting because most wheels fall under 99-101 duro. Start with bigger wheels and move down from there. Personally I started with 56mm 99duro and now I ride 53s
Larger wheels are typically soft anyway
Oh alright, thanks.
can u guys help me in #irl-skate-pics
I’ve done started skating!!!
@gleaming stratus - post your board builds here in IRL-skating. This is where IRL skateboarding discussions happen - and a lot of folks can share feedback. (For security, a lot of links are disabled, but you should be able to share a pic and write out a list of parts).
Bruh im trying to kickflip straight and not varial on a fingerboard and this guy tried to answer
He started off saying "just chill with it"
Then he said "flick straight"
Like bro the whole point of a kickflip is to flick diagonally
Oops
Man's now says he can't kickflip
After I ask for a slo mo
BROO
ok
can i discuss fingerboarding?
Does anyone know if its normal to heelflip with your toe instead of your heel? i just find it easier and idk if it is a bad habit to keep.
some people flick it that way
I personally think it looks ugly like that
So do you think I should nail it with the heel? I want to learn it right but I’ve heard both ways
Probably a topic for #off-topic. (Not hating on it, of course, but not the topic of this room.)
Oh ok then thank you!
Eventually yea , But theres nothing wrong with starting to learn them the way you are
Anyone got any good affordable brands
ripndip boards are pretty sick for 60$
baker especially on a discount
Just get blank one with stickers
nah, its hard to find nice blank boards
Go to your local skate shop and ask if they have any discounted boards, defect boards, or store branded boards.
not really
ive had a few blanks and they all break faster than actual ones
yeah makes sense though they cheap
exactly, thats why i wouldnt waste time with a blank
you have got a point
If you look up the manufacturer of the brand you like, there's a chance they also make blanks. Most deck brands are made only by a handful of shops. So if there's a shape you like it's worth a google search
thats really smart
ill have to do that
the only reason blanks are cheap is no graphic
a graphic literally adds 20$ for no reason
I like Mini Logo. Made by Powell, though they are about $35 a piece instead of +$60. Hard to get sometimes, though. I think their means of production got jacked by the pandemic.
But I'm riding a Powell Flight Deck right now and it was $90 but I love it. Have landed on the tail and the middle of the board a lot but it has not cracked.
Question for everyone: do you prefer to skate cupsole or vulc shoes? And why?
I grew up skating cupsole as a kid, then switched to vulc as a teen, and now I think I prefer cupsole. I think that vulcanized shoes are almost too grippy and they don't protect my feet as much.
I like vulcanized. Don't why, but interestingly enough, I just saw a video on that very question lol
Which one do you like best? Leave a comment to let us know!!!!
Yep I'm basically on the same page as Ben. Maybe it is from growing up with mostly cupsole shoes, but I prefer being able to get a quick flick if I'm doing a kickflip 5-0 or something like that... and they last way longer. I did like Janoski's when I skated them, but some other vulc shoes, like the Emerica Westgate Mid Vulc or (Reynolds) Vulc Lows did not have enough protection. There were some Lakai cupsoles I had that also had a way too thin sole, so I guess it depends. I would definitely grab some Janoski's again if I find them on sale for cheap.
Vulcs are great because you don't need to break them in but they wear out faster than cupsoles. No matter how comfortable and broken in a cupsole is it will always be somewhat stiff. That being said I still enjoy cupsoles too especially when they're broken in.
Agreed. I usually walk around in cupsoles for at least a month and then skate them
Yeah they definitely need that before they start to feel comfortable
Feels like a layer between me and the board
Once that feeling starts to minimize they work great.
Any tips on trying to learn the ollie
You could start learning it on grass or something, but once you start getting it, try it rolling as soon as possible. Also, if you're not comfortable just riding around yet, practice that a lot. Just cruise to get a feel for your board. Idk any specific tips on the Ollie itself. I learned it very young so I can't remember how it was. Other tricks I can give better trick tips on. Oh and never give up! You'll look back later and realize it is so easy once you have it.
thanks man
cuz ive been playing session lol
My skate shop is a hour drive away
Call them up and ask what they have before you drive then
I don’t have a car
what about that lovely silvia in your profile picture
i have a deck that im too scared to use i have never skated before im terrified of it but love skateboarding lol
like the idea of it is cool and essentially my most played games have been skateboarding games lol
but i cannot convince myself to ride it i can’t pull the trigger
A huge component to skating is overcoming mental barriers. No shame in admitting you are scared
I'd bike for it but thats just me
Pog
anyone know where the skate clip from the Skate 1 intro was filmed? before he gets hit by the bus
(thats technically irl right)
looks to be across the street from the California something something i cant make it out
California something Energy?
yo what $60-$70 complete should my friend get?
Is it bad to use insoles and heel liners on skate shoes that are too big for me?
If it doesnt hurt its okay ig
Go for element i‘d say, saw a complete today for 69,99€
nvm, it‘s 89,95€
I'd rather shoes be a bit too big than take off my shoes after a session and my toes are bleeding from jamming into the end. I'd say it's fine, and you can get used to anything after practice. Use the opportunity to put some padding in their if you're going to be jumping off of stuff
Usually skatewarehouse.com has a complete on sale for the "daily dose". Right now it's just a deck, but the sale changes everyday, there's bound to be a complete at some point within the next week, I think
quick question: whats the difference between the sony dvc blue tapes and the dv premium orange ones?
I don't think there's a difference.
Just built a new board for around 150$. So glad to use it soon
Someone just told me my board is wack hellp
Lol just another hater
Lol
Does anyone know a move that I should learn next (ik how to ollie and shovit)
learn this
flip trick
180
^^^
I think maybe you should try both fs and bs 180's
so i've managed to do some nice goals today.
popped a two-metre Manual and wanna try and get some Shuvit's into my system when i can.
that aswell been praciticing on-the-move ollies and jumping off and onto curbs
I jus landed my first hardflip today
learn a mean ass inward heelflip
Lmao seems like a big leap for the next trick
yeah
BIG leap
huge leap
180 to 50-50 to kickflip and lastly ollie any set of stairs
bruh wtf
that's an even higher leap
FS or BS 180. Kickflip. Ollies up and down curbs. 5050s on curbs.
wow so much ppl responded to me i guess ill start from the first one
I think it's too hard for a beginner
i might just look for videos and like make the combo
I was looking into getting a board but I have no idea what I’m lookin at half the time
Anyone want to help?
are you new
yeah
I finally landed a riding ollie !!!!
Good job!
I still haven't but I'm just working on getting a solid ollie rn
You can do it :)
No
I’ve been trying for a solid year
Very happy rn :)
I will!
do a kickflip
i jus saw some clip of a dude in a longboard hitting a 900 no comply
360 shuv
or a laser flip
Before an ollie
thing is
Wtf
everyone knows tres now
ah
so its based af
tiktok?
Probably lol
damn
How did you learn tre-flips before ollies?
I saw a tutorial on tiktok
You were right @wispy cloak
Do you remember who it's by?
I'm trying to find it
Hmm i don't
It was a brazilian guy anyway so you probably wouldn't understand him
😎
s/o ville wester he the goat
any tips for a new skater, cuz im new
Any tips for balancing/help balancing
i'm stil learning pop shuvs lol
any tips to actually landing it
and powerslides?
i cant seem to land em
FACT: watching skate vids before/during a sesh helps with progression and confidence (especially when you're skating alone)
Anyone got tips on backside disasters? I can't completely get the scoop when I turn, so I'm not getting a full rotation. Any help would really be appreciated
kickflips are so hard anyone got tips? every time I try one I end up with my front foot on the ground
I can't get it to go back to the board
I suck at all flip tricks tbh but I also had the problem u have when I was trying to get kickflips down
The reason I couldn't get my front foot on was
1: I couldn't retract my leg fast enough from kicking the board out to getting it back on
2: I had some commitment issues
And I still have commitment issues
just not with skateboarding
JK
Yo
some 10 year old just asked the mayor of a city for a skatepark
and now there is a skatepark
👍
i saw training wheels at the skatepark
hello I been trying stances lately but i haven't found the perfect one for me what should i do?
goofy? or regular?
try running in a smooth surface with socks on and then slide with one foot pointing forwards
what foot did you put forward by instinct?
Any tips on how to land an ollie and not slam into the ground?
Wdym by slam into the ground? @warped vale
I either get tossed off my board into my back or my face
Oh shoot
It's most likely your balance
Few things, make sure you have the correct foot placement, your back foot on the tail, and your front foot behind the bolts.
Make sure you are correctly distributing your weight
Make sure your shoulders are straight with the board
Hope those help a bit
That's definitely just not having enough time on board. Get used to the feel of the skateboard, finding that point where you'll slip out and fall but being able to correct your balance so you don't. Maybe even jump up off the board and land back on it, without doing an ollie to get comfy landing back on it. Roll off curbs. Do things like that to just make yourself super comfy on board.
i relearned rolling pop-shove its today
Tried to drop in a bowl today for the first time
And have the battle scars to prove it
.
anyone here got tips on kickflip? currently i can almost land it its just the only problem is my back foot keeps landing on the tail in a 5-0 position
Anyone got any tips for moving ollies
One important thing is check for pebbles before you try, but also make sure you kinda push foward with your front foot to keep it moving with you, just not too hard and flicky or you'll just kick it out from under you
i just did my first few and the most important is that you just keep trying:)
and start off slow until you get a few good ones
If my future husband doesn’t want a skate wedding I will simply say no
Do a kickflip!
i got pretty good at pushing and i got a good amount of speed today i couldn’t skate for a few days bc of work but i managed to get som skateing in today
Is there any way of salvaging a snapped in half board
cool decorations lol
Hey I'm tryna get into skating do any of yalls have any recommendations for good boards and how to get better
go skate shop or something, look at board sizes, get a feel of the decks also
i personally enjoy enjoi's decks, got a sturdy feel to them and the deck graphics they do are sick as
^ they can get expensive tho
Okay thanks
Oo I love Enjoi
yall wanna skate
i enjoy skateing a lot but i have nosy ass neighbors and it annoying
skateing on haloween was fun but i got pulled up on by the red dudes from squid game and they kept telling me to do a kick flip
Lol
shoulda just kickflipped man
i got eliminated:((
I just recently got back into skateboarding and trying to learn the ollie again, I can't get pop, and when I I do I can't get my back foot to my board, it just leaves me, also the board keeps rolling away from me. Please help me
the rolling away problem is usually solved by getting comfortable on the board. Im not sure what to say about the ollie problem tho
Make sure to snap your ankle a whole lot on your back foot, helps you slam that tail down to get the pop you want. Basically like a really quick one footed jump
tapes came in (dont mind the empty cup of what used to be baja blast
wtf is that empty cup of what used to be Baja blast?
baja blast souvenir 🤤
Yooo
I’m so tired of rolling my ankle every other week
I'm regular stance and most of the time when i push with my right food my left tight starts to hurt is this normal or am i doing something wrong?
Yooo I just got back into skateboarding after seeing skate 3 blow up again, and all I ever skated on was a Walmart board so wish me luck 😂
Good luck homie 🤙
Is the nose higher/steeper then the tail?
On a skateboard/fingerboard? (One of the kicks is higher then the other on my fingerboard)
Nvm
omg guys I land alpha flip
W
can someone rate this board setup im about to get
No
It rlly depends what deck you buy
Just did my first boardslide and dropped in on a big ass ramp
i can finally skate again today
it rains alost every day in the Netherlands :(
and the closest indoor skatepark is with a car an hour away
So if I jump off my toes I’d want my toes in the middle of the board I’m guessing
I have good pop and a good slide but I land leaning forward I think that’s my foot placement
I land with like my legs straight, and no matter how many mental notes i make, i always land with my legs stiff and in the middle of the board. Trying to learn to land on the bolts
when you guys get new shoes for skating, do you wear them for a little before you start to use them on a board or do you just scratch them up right out the box?
Depends on the shoes
im feeling my ollies get better in the motion
it was a mentality thing
i feel the board go further forward now
any tips on front shuvs? I can do regular shuvits perfectly fine but I’m terrified of fronts, i can’t understand the motion
Put your front foot in the middle of your board
hey
honestly the skate comunitie is really sexist towards girls
there cant pass a month where im not called poser
i thought it stopped since i mad progress but last week an boy i thought was nice said some things
and i think that its hella unfair for me and many more girls who want to get started
Don't let it keep you down. I assume you're pretty young. Most of that stuff goes away as people get older and mature. Keep on skating!!
don't let that keep you from doing something you enjoy doing. if you're happy doing it then it shouldn't matter what negative things are said, just brush it off and keep doing what you enjoy doing. yes, sometimes it may get to you when they say things like that, and that's ok, but don't let it get you too down to where you don't want to do what you enjoy anymore. just keep progressing, and do you. it's not super easy being a girl that skates, you'll get some people who will dump on you skating, but there are people out there who will like seeing a girl skating. it's not all bad out there
❤️🔥❤️🔥
My gf said when she started skating everyone was super chill and nice to her (she started at 17) so I would agree that it does get better the older u get
istg weekend skate sessions are the besttttt
i did my first ollie to manny on a manny pad, and i learned a slappy 50-50 and a slappy 5-0
You could always respond with
"If being a beginner, and having fun learning new things on a piece of wood with 4 wheels is being a poser, then I'll pose any day. So what deck you ride?"
Flip the script and keep moving.
Well practicing my kickflip just made me accidentally land my first varial 😎 good times
when people film on a vx why do they cover the lense after the clip
so they can find their clip on the computer later
distinguish from the land and the attempts
I accidentally did a crooked grind
Noice
dope good to know
so if i were to like get into skating in real life on a scale of 1-10 how likely would it be that i get a serious injury and give up while learning
About the same odds as playing a contact sport like basketball or soccer
really?
you'd think it would be a lot worse injuries than a few bruises and scrapes
Beginner learning injuries are mostly scrapes from falling
But there are freak accidents that can happen from litterally nothing
Land funny break your ankle out for a month
Learning skating is inherently dangerous because you have to fall
Yoga mat no wheels is fine
But at some point
You have to do the real thing
But if you don't want to you don't have to
well I've been thinking about gettin' into it but I've never gotten seriously injured in almost my whole life
try not to
You can't take on obstacles if you aren't comfortable on the board
Getting comfortable takes some falls
well I don't even know how to stay on the board, you know, nowhere near tricks. literally brand new
just ride
That's really the starting point, ride around get used to the feeling
soooo, i just bought myself a brand new board. HUGE upgrade since it's a custom setup too
Very nice
need tips for learning how to grind
Don't start with rails, I made a grind box at home for practising grinds which is really helpful, or if you have a skate park or a skate spot that is square edged and grindable. You can do stuff as for ex. first learning to just stall on it. Then another thing that helps is positioning the board onto the object that will be grinded so you know what to expect and master keeping the locking and the balance during the grind (not sure how this would work with many grinds, i know it works for 50-50s). Speaking of 50-50s, i recommend you to learn this first. Also, always make sure you lock trucks and wheels onto the grind otherwise you might end up flying away from your skateboard. I also consider myself a beginner, I learned 50-50s 1 month ago and now I'm able to do it during street skating and skate sessions and its really fun.
how to miracle whip
any board suggestions for beginners?
Like brand?
i guess but i'm assuming there are more specific details besides brand
like shape and material and trucks and wheels and all that
dont know enough about skateboards to really look into it myself so i was wondering if there were any generally good beginner boards
Well if you go to a shop they're probably gonna have some regular popsicle boards
I would recommend venture trucks but those are the only trucks I've ever skated
So i don't know about other one's
Just get the spitfire classics
For wheels
Just go to zumiez or any other shop near you
Skateboards are pretty standard. Especially for a decent complete you can find at most skate shops. As a beginner you won't notice details or subtly in the shape. By the time you do, you'll more than likely need a new deck anyway. So like joje said, go to a local shop and ask them to help you out and you'll be good to go
any tips on how to olie higher?
Smoke more weed
i don't smoke
Anyone know any good truck companies? I've been using independent for years
Crouch in the air
ok will try
Really focus on the slide. Keep your front foot under the bolts for the best results imo
Will try that as well
My board broke today😓
rip bozo
aww man that sucks
ive broke two boards in my entire life, im still emotional when i break a board so i know your pain
imagine if somebody skated the skate. reel decks
what official size are they btw? ive never seen any info about the size.
I think they’re 8s
welp gl i guess
I think i lost my tail
I managed to somehow kickturn a concrete brick…
i landed my first kick flip today :)
🎉
Let's go!!!
anyone have tips on bs 180's
The thing that helped me most was making sure that you’re turning your head just as much as your shoulders, it’s easy to keep your head still during the trick
Also make sure to wind up your shoulders if you’re just learning it, they should be turning before you ollie
just did my first revert than rain into a car
i just started how do you get over the initial fear of doing tricks
or just skating in general
sounds dumb, but learn how to fall correctly and how to bail out of tricks. Minimizes your chances of getting hurt, makes you more comfortable.
Do it
As someone that once spent an entire day at the skatepark not getting injured, but then proceeded to sprain my ankle real bad walking to the car. Do it. It helps your balance and spatial awareness out a lot!
nope
Bad decision
You gotta try man
Can't get good at something you don't practice at
Listen to the hawk vs wolf podcast. The new episode has Rodney Mullen and he is just so inspiring.
That’s what happens with everyone
You gotta learn
Ya but I tried
You gotta try more
That’s the thing with skateboarding
It doesn’t just come to you
You gotta try
You don’t just get things right unless you keep trying
But I just scoot now
Because people made fun of me and broked my board
Wtf
Damn
By using a plank and those rolling skate wheels
And then after making it
it got destroyed again
By the same people
But there always there a lot
So now I just use my scooter and they just don’t care
Ok
Any of yall skate sml or boardy cake wheels?
I just picked up some 45mm wheels from boardy cakes haha
Nah I never heard of them
Where do you live if I can ask? Is it easy to find cheap skate stuff?
An old dude showed up and taught me how to skate better and then shows off his skills
Orlando Florida
I’m at a neighborhood that has like no place to skate at
Just need some concrete to practice man. Rodney mullen just went into his backyard that had a slab of concrete and learned there. Be patient. Sucking sucks but practice makes perfect
Ya but problem is there is construction sites almost everywhere
any knows how to fix rocket kick flips?
I know for me, just slightly putting more weight on my front foot before popping and making sure I don't lean back seems to help.
@subtle turtle
My opinion is do whatever you want with your sheet of sandpaper on a glue strip. It's your board, have fun with it. Paint markers are fun to mess with on it as well.
I got plain cause colored and graphics on my grip tape made me skate it only one way and get super razor tail
I’m about out of my hibernation so I can progress more in skating
Taking breaks won’t help much though
Probably won’t take a break next winter
Sick man
what brand board should i get?
Any board you want, unless you are looking for specifics like mellow concave, high pop, snappy feel, ect
Oki
any tips on improving my balance
Just cruising around helps much
yo i just got a new cruiser board today and im having trouble moving around and pushing, any tips?
How new are you too riding?
Only thing that can really help is spending more time on the board. But when you go to push, try to take long strides with a full kick. You'll get more power that way
if you throw your vans shoes in the air they will always land upright
i started yesterday, and i have been practising balance on then carpet
I did it!
Sweeet!
literally just got my skateboard in water for like 30 seconds
Spin those bearings out asap
I wanna learn how to skateboard but everytime i go to the skatepark i get embarrassed and self conscious. I always think that people are staring and actively making fun of me.
Totally understandable. But, they have all been there. Chances are they don’t even notice you. But if it bothers you a lot, try to find empty parking lots to skate in. A lot of places are closed on Sundays so you could try it then or just after places close to find an empty lot.
^^^
Also, skaters probably won't be too mean, especially since they've been where you are right now. Everyone has had to learn everything they know, so don't be afraid to ask for some tips from other skaters!
Some want looser trucks but don't know that if they get softer bushings for their trucks they will be able to turn far more easier. Taking the top bushing of is a quick fix to get it loose, but not good for the truck at all.
Does first kickflip count on a snowskate?
A kickflip is a kickflip. You got the motion down. Kickfliping something else should be easier now
He said snowskate not snowboard. A snow skate is basically a slightly bigger skateboard deck that is thick.
anyone have any beginner tips on dropping in?
Aight, thanks. In this case I landed my first kickflip!!!!! 😁😁
i’m about to start skating, can anyone tell me what type of wheels are best for street and park skating?
Commit to it, lean forward. Slam the front of your board down hard and don't lean back.
You really can't go wrong with a basic bones or spitfire skate wheel. Smaller and harder wheels are nice for park and easier to flip than larger wheels. BUT if the street spots you wanna skate seem a bit rough, then a slightly larger wheel and a little softer duro rating can make it better. But if the pavement is mostly nice and you plan to spend a bit of time at the park, any 52mm 99a or around those numbers, wheel you can't go wrong with for general skating. Especially as a beginner. As you ride more you'll figure out if you want bigger, smaller, harder, or softer.
thanks for the help man! 😄👍
Lean back
But what if they actually put a hole in the ramp because they are so strong
so
im trying to learn kickflip
my goal is learn a kickflip before a drop from a ramp
its kinda funny tho
i alr know how to do the flip move
but i cant fall on the board doing that move
can anyone give me a tip
Flick your foot
i have th same issue
its called land on the board not fall
dude he said he cn flip the board but cant land it
Oh silly me
whats that thing called when you put your feet on the ends of the board, and lean back and forth, rotating your body, so you're like, walking around
and you're going sideways to the board
Walking the dog?
like that, but with both feet
idk i call it penguin walk lol
is there a some proffesional skaters or someone who can help me with choose a first skateboard?
Are you looking to make it yourself or buy a complete?
buy a complete i find this and i dont know is this a good skateboard
cant post the link
Whats the brand? Where you buying it from?
Screen shot and put it in the #irl-skate-pics channel maybe?
second
Check out a website called skate wherehouse.
It has a sort of “board builder” thing
hey guys, just asking, how do i check which is my nose and which is my tail?
nvm figured it out
Has anyone here ever made their own box or rail? I’m looking into it & want to see how some of you have done it
I did years ago. I followed some tutorial on YouTube, don't remember it though. It was a small box with angle iron on the edge
i finally have proper skate shoes again
Guys
I got 8.125 but i want 8
will it not be too big?
This is my foot size
43-44 EU
nah thats fine
board size depends on what you wanna skate. wider boards = more stable but harder to to flip tricks and the same goes for the other way
less stable but easier tricks
Yeah, you'll just have a little bit of adjusting with timing but it shouldn't be too difficult, you'll catch on the differences pretty quickly. I have a 7.5 and an 8.25 is switch between. 8.25 feels much more stable and I have more wiggle room to land. The 7.5 is a little twitchier and less forgiving when landing but it's nice and quick.
My vans say a size 40 EU if that means anything to you
Okey thanks dude!
i agree, i used to skate a deathwish 7.75 and it felt like i was balancing my feet on a twig, now i skate a caravan 8.25 and it feels amazing
I went from a small deathwish to a 9.75
Is that a longboard or a pool shaped/cruiser deck? It's really hard to find popsicle decks that wide!
I'll ping you in skate pics
Old school Powell reissue
Love that deck so much! I'd get one but my LY dingy is still doing well so I have no reason for it
i havent skated since like junior/middle school, tried to skate again with my old board and holy moly this thing is skinny it feels weird
How wide is it?
Same bro I love deck so much
I'm getting my first longboard !
@modest path we talk about that stuff over here. 👍
In general you'll be fine with that but you might not like the feel. Typically you want to "rails" to line up, or be as close as possible. Meaning you want to edge of the deck to line up with the edge of the wheel/truck.
Now the 7.75 can mean a few different things. Truck sizes aren't standard between brands. One may measure in inches while another may measure in millimeters. Some may measure from the bolt edge to edge, while another brand might measure from the hanger width (the part of the truck in-between the wheels that is grindable).
To answer your question better let me ask, do you already have a set up where the deck is a 7.75 and you are asking if the trucks on there will work for an 8.25 deck? If so, the trucks might not match up to the deck width. It'll be a different feel than you are used too. It can work, but you won't know if you like it till you try it out.
ty
btw is there any other way i could get better at manuals other than balence and practice
Manuals are kinda one of the only things that can only get better with time
Try different foot placements and see what works best, other than that you do kinda just have to do them
Any kickflip tips I am Currently working on them
im working on my ollies and ive been keeping my shoulders straight, but i turn frontside
any tips?
Happened to me maybe you are moving your hips
Tell me whats wrong with them
i tried to keep my hips and shoulders straight and i land with both straight but my board turns like 20 degrees fs
idk why and all the videos just say keep your shoulders straight
idk what else it would be besides the pop or smth
3 possibilities
also, thanks for helping
Either you ar moving your arms, or letting your front foot too long on the nose or you are having a bad foot placement
Np
also, are you supposed to have weight on the ball or the whole foot?
its probably the second or third option
I think on the ball but im not so sure
thats what i thought too
Foot placement is my first guess with you saying you are square without seeing a vid. Squid knows his ollie's!
And yeah, the balls. Think about how you would jump normally without a board to get the best jump
Thanks
You are welcome
i normally have my front foot in the middle for maximum drag
I am too
Your feet are gonna be staggered a bit and not in line with each other. Let me see if I can find a good photo example
ok, thanks
I also had problems with ollies but i changed the foot placement and it helped
Maybe for you its another case
I used to hang my back foot too far off the tail instead of the pocket. And my front foot I would hand my heel off the edge to much instead of being more centered.
Actually, now that I think about it, I did used to turn a little bit front side when I first started ollie's it would knock me back a little bit and I wouldn't land. I forgot about troubleshooting that back in the day
This might seem weird but i put my front foot a little tilted and that corrected my ollie
tomorrow ill send a pic of foot positioning and a video of my ollies on carpet
ive been trying on carpet to fix the turning
so i can land on flat
That's the big "tiny" adjustment that helped me out so much!
Yeah
Left
ok
If you are regular
i am
ok, thanks for all the help, be back tomorrow
I thought I had a video but no I'll try to get one tomorrow
No problem
@balmy lion
Yeah
look in the pics
Ok
@balmy lion they go forward and I cant catch them
Ok
Maybe you are leaning backward to your back foot
Also you are maybe not raising your back foot
@solar summit your backfoot toes should be around the middle of the board kind of like a heelflip but front foot shouldn't have hanging toes unless you're doing a frontside 180
Hey guys! I live in a small town and we're fundraising for a skatepark :NScheeky: so if you wanna follow along with the process give our skatepark instagram a follow: https://www.instagram.com/skate.beder.malling/ (it's in danish, but yea) we would really apprciate it because when we are fundraising it looks good to have a few followers and so on 🙂 thx for your time also if you have any tips on establishing a skatepark then feel free to speak out :NScheeky:
ok thank you
@balmy lion
Yeah
can you send me the video
Yeah ill send it to the irl clips
alr thanks
I could've sent one but it's wet outside sadly
im a beginner, got a decent board tho, but the nearest actual good places to skate are super far away from me, what kinda areas would have flat surfaces good for practising?
keep it clean for coach frank
speaking of which, any south british skaters here? im a beginner but i'd love to play some skate when i got stuff down
Anyone have some tips on pop shuvits?
i need them too the closest i came was i landed with one foot on the board twice
any south UK skaters?
also, will my crappy bike helmet at least stop me breaking my skull?
didnt have enough dosh to buy a proper skate helmet, had to get a bike helmet tho it fits me great
(giant orc head)
Depends on the kind of bike helmet you got. Most bike helmets are designed to protect the top of the head because of how falls typically will happen on a bike with very little protection to the back and sides. They also tend to be one hit use only so if you crash you should throw it away and get a new one.
Skate/multi-sport helmets have more protection around the back of the skull and sides. They are also typically rated to handle multiple minor hits and bumps or one big crash (check the ASTM and or CPSC to double check what it's rated for) so you can get a little more life out of it.
That being said, any helmet is generally better than no helmet.
ye as soon as it's damaged im replacing it
I only skate to be a better poser
Hey, at least you're getting better and making progress... Yeah...
The better I get at skating, the more convincing I will look
my board went under the same car twice
Pain... F for your board o7
parked cars it's gucci
Had me worried for a second
guys, i find it p easy to turn by just pushing down my heel or toes, is this the right way to turn?
some people talk about leaning but i find it much easier to bend my knees and then pivot my ankles to turn
some people talk about leaning their body into it which sounds like a way to break your face
That's completely fine, that's just a normal casual way to turn.
Leaning is used more for aggressive and tighter turns because you are putting more weight and power into it.
But overall it's weight shifting and causing the trucks to lean
gotta look for a nice place to skate around but south england is such a SH
one thing i still appreciate about skate 3 is how grounded and realistic the animations are, apart from mongo being just as viable, skate seems p faithful
Same where I am. Though if we had side walks on more than 2 streets, that would help out a lot
i keep checking google maps like a new place will pop up
I wonder if there's an local skate groups you can find. Might take some time to dig but there's gotta be other skaters not to far from you
i need a new board i swear 7.50 bro it’s so small
what’s a good size for like someone with big feet
I ride a 7.5 but even with my tiny feet it's tight. I have another board that is 8.25 and it's very comfortable. Try around that or even an 8.5. You'll need wider trucks with a wider deck so keep that in mind
Yeah anything above 8.25 is good for big feet. Personally I use an 8.38 and they're pretty well fit.
Frog Skateboards do a lot of wide boards so you could check those out.
What’s the best skateboard to buy?
Guess they didn't want to stick around for an answer :/
A Valentine’s Day tragedy 😔
i just landed my first shuvit and i feel great
Sweet!!!
How do you make your back foot go on your board on shuvit and not make the bard flip over
Have you practiced the motion without standing on your board but with just your back foot on the board?
Try doing it on carpet or grass, then do the exact same thing on concrete immediately after landing one. Thats how I got them.
Also keep your front foot low enough to control the board so that it doesn’t flip
i recommend not to skate with braces i chip my tooth
You mean the braces you get on your teeth?
You hit your face? Wouldn't your tooth have chipped with or without braces? O.o
will it will happen with and without it
i was riding 8.25 and just learned treflips still landing sketch, switched to 8.3 and haven't laded one since, why do i struggle so hard with it 😫
I skate with braces lol
It's harder to scoop with bigger board sizes ig
Yoooo got kickflips back
Did my first one a month ago but never did again bc of commitment issues
Really forced it & landed like 5 today!
Dude that's awesome!!!!
Thanks bro!
Trying to get a couple more before my legs give out but I’m struggling to even Ollie rn😭
How do you keep your board from getting away from you on a kickflip
Can you post a vid? It would make it easier to point out the problem!
@near geyser what kind of board are you looking for?
Not always. The size this comes down mainly to preference and what kind of skating you plan on doing. Shoe size does play a factor in being comfortable on the deck but it's just a general suggestion. Wider decks are a bit more stable but harder to do flip tricks on. Smaller boards can flip easier but can get twitchy.
What is your shoe size?
@near geyser the basic standard 99a 52mm wheel will probably be fine. If you plan on cruising more than doing tricks, go with a bigger wheel and/or a softer wheel. Yes skate warehouse is legit. But I recommend going in person to a local skate shop if you can. They will be able to help you out even more
Aw man that sucks but I get that. The closest shop to me is a bit of a drive. Based on your size though, I'd rec around an 8in board. It's a good general start but feel free to go a little smaller or bigger depending on what you think. It won't matter too much just starting 👍
Braddock actually posted this chart not too long ago... I can't post the link to his post in here 😅
hello
i have just started skating
and i need help on my ollie
i always seem to get my foot stuck half way across the board when i pop
and i cant get the hang of evening out the board
can anyone help me out here
Send a clip of some attempts so we can really give pointers!
ok, what I did was practice flicking while I hoped my backfoot off and get the flick to hover over the board
I think I have a video example of it
if you want it
I gotta find it tho
Ok
Also
Is make sure that you have your body centered, like leaning just a little bit will cause the board to turn
Alright
Yeah I get the flips perfect sometimes even a double but then I can’t get the front on the board it just goes to the ground
Yeah, that's what happens when you flick down
Something wrong with the flick
people would tell me just commit and it didn't work lmao
I practiced the flick up and bring the the foot over and I landed a kickflip on the 3rd day
Also
I recommend doing it rolling because kickflips stalled are hard
I can't do one while not moving
I literally gotta be rolling
Alright
Bro I just switched from Krux to Indy’s trucks
These things are heavyyy
But they feel so smooth
are suede blazers good for skateboarding
Depends on how much you like to sweat
Should i microwave my skate vans ? Im scared lol
I'm hesitant to ask... But... Um... Why?
to break them in?
I can’t say I’d do that, just wear them bro
ok
uhh
i was just skating home from the grocery store
and my truck fell off
it hurt
like the whole thing
With the pic you shared the other day, I'm surprised you were able to get any use of it at all. Hope your ok
honestly buying new trucks is gonna hurt me more than any fall ever could
and im probably gonna need to replace everything too, not just the trucks
that whole setup is coming up on 9 years old now lol
do any of your friends skate?
Is there anyone after 3x surgery for one knee? ACL, meniscus...
I can skate one session and my knee hurt 2-3 next days that I can't skate or I affraid...
Also I can't bend my leg fully which is pretty normal after these surgeries as Dr said.
Idk man, new trucks vs doctor/er visit is a pretty bad toss up imo
Oh man that's hard. I haven't had knee surgeries but dang. Both the acl and meniscus, I'd def work with the doc/physio as close as possible trying to rehab that.
a couple, but they all broke too lmao
I keep landing primo on kickflips today for sum reason
Just landed my first Nollie!! Super hyped

Ayy double hype, just got my first Nollie shuv!!
any tips on heelflips??
Where are you at with them? What are you struggling with?
the flick on them, ill get a good one every now an then
Gahhh damn
Just really gotta practice the flick. It’s a weird motion, but keep at it. Can you consistently get it upside-down?
most if the time, yesterday I mostly put the front foot down, i just needa commit more lol
i wanna learn to skate tbh
I'd say do it
but im broke and every board i see is like 100 dollars
Understandable. Though I honestly wouldn't get a complete for much less than that. Any less than say, $80 is getting really risky on the quality
@fallen burrow is the glue still being on there a problem? It's typically not an issue unless you are wanting to do something special with it. But if you just plan on slapping down new grip, then it shouldn't be an issue to lay down the new sheet on top
ok really thanks
Found a sick park through the trees when I was driving around so I went to find it and its pretty nice
Ayyy sick find!
just popsicled for the first time and hopefully the last
Any tips on how to go down a curb without falling I'm a beginner
Go for it
You will get it within a few tries, you’ll quickly see that it is not scary
Is it essential to get a new deck now ? mine has a soggy pop and it difficult to do tricks for me
If you're not happy with how it's feeling, then buy all means upgrade. No point in staying frustrated with the deck if it's dead and you have the means to replace it
I know this is more of a longboard/cruiser type thing than a typical street skating thing, but Landyatchz new drop with the Skiff Self Help looks like a super fun shape to ride. They say it's a mix between their cruiser and ATV (which is their "all terrain" cruiser+street deck mash up) line up. If only my LY dinghy was more beat up to justify getting a new board/setup lol.
oh okay, thank you
another question for filmers this time
what's actually the difference between a fisheye lens and a wide angle lens, and what's the best for street
Fisheye has less peripheral @thorn island it really depends on the style and lines youre filming. If youre just filming a spot or one trick a fisheye can be a good lense, but if youre doing a long pan shot and need a wider view then the wide angle is probably your best bet. When following up its more of a preference Ive found
Any rock to fakie tips?
approach the coping with enough speed to be able to get that front truck over it. do a little manny to get the truck over the coping and into the "rock" then comes the tricky bit:
wait until yourself start to move a little before you lift that truck back up, if you go too early you'll catch the coping and usually bail, too late and you'll "hang up" and the board will stay at the top of the ramp, with you coming down the ramp.
the key is to not panic at this point, just practice on a low ramp or a kerb til you get the movement down, and if you have one on a hill thats a bonus because you can tell when you are going to start rolling backwards.
keep your feet pretty far apart on the board, as close to the nose and tail as you can. keep your knees bent throughout the move and only lean a little bit forward to get the front truck on the coping. then lift it up and keep your weight even and knees bent as you come down the ramp and roll away
Thanks g
oh thanks
I'm planning for some set of stairs and rails so I'Il go with the fisheye I guess
ooooh really hyped for the shrimp blunt video ngl
Any non-generic kickflip tips
Just got new shoes damn its hard to skate again🤣
i got new shoes and a new board. All new new wheels new berings new trucks new deck
what can you do on the skateboard? Kickflip? 180 kickflip?? 360 flip? Varial flip?
grinds?
I can do a kickflip and already did one varialflip
shuvit
180 front and backside
New setup
Idk what trick is my best but I got a mean switch shuv rewind or a nightmare flip body varial
maybe a fakie bigger flip, they are fun to do
yoooo
you: saying fakie bigger flip me: just struggeling when thinking of it. My brain just going 🤯 . Not talking about fakie and real life.
haha... when you've been skating as long as me you'd hope i'd picked up a trick or two... i'd probably say full cab flips are my fave because they are lazy tricks and a guaranteed letter in a game of skate
if you love somethin sticking to it is fun... i guess thats why i've skated for 15 years
practice is key :
uhm 15 yrs is much
i skated like 2 yrs but sometimes i skated more sometimes less
i can do shuvits but only 1 direcion front and backside 180
and a kickflip
and some minramp tricks
that sounds like a lot of tricks already
but i can't do them while driving
I tried learning how to skate
I’m still trying to kick myself fast enough
I’m still learning momentum but once I get that down I’m prob just gonna use it for strolling around
Maybe tricks at my local skate park
i almost landed a kickflip yesterday and it was awesome
like
there was one foot on the board
but im stoked at the fact i even got it to flip and then land right-side up
Heck yeah guy, keep at it 🤙🏻
sus my youtube for hvx footage "nolliefakieflip"
same lmao pisses me off so much
i am always landing a bit in front of the board
How do i make the board stick to my feet?
Duct tape
sickk
Glue some shoes to it
did a heelflip today not really because i landed and put my hands on the ground for a sec that i am not falling off the skateboard but yeah
varial flip? down a set? that's brave
if you're doing it down a set, you wanna adjust your feet so when you pop it, it's not like you do em on flat. that way the board spins slower in the air so you have better chance to catch it instead of it going for another flip or a 360
beware the primo
varial flips are the worst for that
Hey i'm a final year graphic communication student focusing his final major project on getting more people to pick up skateboarding regardless of age, gender, sexuality, background etc. For the first part of the project I had to write a dissertation about my topic which was looking into the treatment of women and LGBTQ folk within skateboarding culture. And from my findings I decided to focus the 'Design' aspect of the project into encouraging more people to take up skateboarding
So I have a super quick survey that I'd like to use to hear from skaters about their experiences skating and generally what their frustrations are with skateboarding culture and anything that would improve their experience skateboarding
Any responses and thoughts would be super helpful as Im looking to design something of actual value to the skater 🙂
@exotic slate I’ve got an old board and some blue bones 53mm I believe with my old reds. If you supply shipping costs I’ll clean up the bearings and board and send it to you for cheap. All you’ll need is trucks
Do you know the excalibur flip?
oh thanks my g I'Il try those tips the next time
that's really intereseting ngl
Just did my first 180 while driving
Why does my board flip when I do a shuvit and I land primo
I dont I think it has something to with my front foot though I think I'm scooping incorrectly
maybe you are not scooping it only to the back
maybe you are pushing down and then scooping back
@late furnace
say it
no
why??
What ???WHY??? said about the scooping is my best guess without seeing a vid of you trying it and looking at your foot position.
I think there's a chance you might be scooping it and hooking your tail with your foot like you would when trying to do a Tre flip
Ok thx for the advice I would always hurt my butt landing primo
Does anyone know a good curb to buy to practice grinds? Or should i build one? Or is it in general not worth it?
Try looking up “build a slappy curb” on YouTube, looks like there’s some really good tutorial videos on that. If you don’t have a curb near you but wanna practice and have the space for it, I’d say go for it.
While your at it you could even build a small, lightweight box for inside use to practice with when the weather is bad. I have something like that setup for my balance board I can practice hopping on and off with
thanks for help i have a curb and a miniramp 15 mins away from my house if i drive with a bike but i am not often there because am not getting the time. I will look for a build video. But how do you use the curb for your balance board (I have one)?
And can i also build a curb out of wood or is it bad?
If you check out "The Trampskate company" and look at their flat ground obstacles, I made a small box similar. I actually use their "trucks" with my balance deck so I can practice jumping on and off the box and various obstacles inside.
The box I have inside is wood, though I imagine over time it would start breaking down using your real trucks to slap on and off for real slappys. I guess maybe have some wax handy and try it? Worse case is you make another with a different kind or top or find out a way to reinforce it
the trucks are a funny idea i like it
yeah i think i will try
I wonder where you can get those parking blocks that parking lots have in front of where the car parks, that would be perfect to get your hands on
yeah true but it is like here the things aren't there i know them and i think they would be great but here in europe i have never seen any of them
if i could buy one of them
would be sick
i looked and as i thought you can buy it nowhere
found something really good how i can build a curb with wood from redbull
Nice! Red bull providing more than just wings lol
yeah that's true
Hi! I'm a begginer, and I just want to kindly ask how can I practice balancing on my one foot? 😅
Wdym
how do i push with one foot? I can't seem to balance well when it comes to pushing with one foot
Im a goofy stance
Eh same
Basically what I did after like 5 years of skating, I just went to a flat concrete place and just ride around
Rode*
Get the feel of your board
After awhile you'll balance yourself and feel safe riding
But that's me, might now work for you but wth give it a try
i did try it! and it really helped thanks Neli!
slr, our wifi got cut off but in the mean time i practiced!
thanks for your advice!
You're welcome! Glad it worked out :)
Keep skating
Often when i try to heelflip i hurt my foot because somehow i hit the griptape under my ankle right where is no shoe. What am i doing wrong? Can someone tell with this information?
80% of the time i try to do a kickflip, the board just flies out in front of me into the air when i try to flick it
what do i do
I'm still learning myself, but what I was told why that happens is that you're not distributing ur weight. Most of your weight is on the tail of the board and when you flick it just goes infront of u
That's my understanding
I've gotten down the weight evenly, it's just now I have to commit and my flick needs to be better :/
Not enough info tbh. What part of board hits where
This is correct
are skating vans shoes good?
All I skate for the most part
Yeah just not the canvas ones. They shred instantly! As soon as you show them the board they get flip mark holes
Alright, thanks.
Any tips for ollies into manuals?
i will send a pic tomorrow and i don't know what part of the board it is
Is it much of a upgrade from reds bearings too Bones Swiss?
Imo, not much. At the very least not much for the price difference between the two. If you have the cash and want to check it out then try em. But the bones reds ride good enough and are cheap enough to replace once they get too dirty/gritty
Now if we're talking about the bones swiss ceramics, there's no need for those especially at that price point. Only real benefit is the ceramics are more durable against rust, and can last longer in wetter conditions. For that I'd recommend Zealous brand ceramics. I have those one my longboard and cruiser and those are great.
Thank you for responding, I was set on getting Bones Black Swiss but four them at 80$ where I live so I needed to know if they were worth it.
They are so not worth it
Bones reds are good. They just wear out a little fast. If you rock up to a ledge after a while youll notice they lose their consistency. I dont have that problem with bronsons now. They last ages and just keep rolling
Im not sponsored by bronson..... i just think they are neat
My toxic trait is thinking a Pressure Flip would be easy
I’m gonna try them tomorrow I’ll let you all know how it goes
is it worth it to start skating at 14yo
Its always worth it to skate
Okay
aren't ceramic bearings breaking fast when you do a ollie or something similar?
i am younger than you and started 2 yrs ago
but wasn't skating consistently
Okk
Update: They aren’t
ik
They aren’t too bad tho
Imma keep working at it
Plus if I get those I can learn Inward Heels easier
& Inward Heels are my fav trick
So far they are easier than varials
Yesterday I could not do ollies up or off curbs but now I can do them almost every try?? Wack
🥲 one of my ball bearings came out
sometimes you lose all your progress only that you can do it much better the next day. It's normal
Fr fr, that happened to me with shuvits too, did a few, lost them, now got them on lock
then yoou are better than me
it is spring here and 3 days ago it had 20C and rn it is snowing and it has -1C
so i couldn't skateboard much already
What tricks u got?
sometimes kickflip, shuvit but only on side, 180 one side clean other side sometimes, oh i forgot a ollie, and already did one very crappy sketchy heelflip
and did already a crappy 50-50 grind on a very flat curb
and i can do some miniramp tricks
i shouldnt use normal sk8 hi vans for skateboarding correct?
Why not? I skate em
guys i just learned backside flips ‼️
Been using Sk8 Hi vans the past three months and they've been great (granted I stick to longboards/cruising, idk if that matters)
Why are hospital flips so ez??
i can barely kickflip can't varial and landed 3 hospitals today and 2 two of them in a row
i tried them for fun and not bc i can do the motion of them very good and practiced them.
i landed 1 and then i thought:"if you can do it once you can do it twice", Aaron Kyro
Not sure but I heard that alot of people accidentally do hospital flips and heel flips
i didn't accidentally do it i wanted to do it and it was ez. I can't heelflip i am learning these rn but never actually landed one
why what did you broke??
Broke my elbow so bad it needed surgery now there's a whole bolt in my arm for the rest of my life, the bolt was for holding the pieces that broke off to the rest of the bone
ouch
Fell into concrete at 30mph during a dumb hill bomb
sounds painful
oh ok i thought you feel it much but better when you don't feel it
Nah, only thing that went through my head was "d#mn I can't skate the bowl next week" since I was going to ride a pool at a skatepark
But breaking it just made me want to skate more
funny i haven't broke something yet but i don't do crazy stuff. But it will come
