Hey boys, I started skating again cuz skate. gave me the mood lol, and I am a very beginner rn. I watched Kyro’s videos to get back on the board (idk if it’s a good idea lol) and now I can ride normally, I can do that popcorn etc, skate basics. Now here’s the problem, when I wanna do a shuvit, I can’t get my back foot back on the board. My front foot always lands mid or front screws, but my back one always gets toes on the board and slips, or even gets UNDER the board when landing. It’s perfect position but UNDER the board 🤦🏻‍♂️ and I cannot land it. I remember I could shuvit and ollie before, now I can’t because my back foot always gets aside of the board. Any tip ? My prefered foot is my right one, I ride regular.

I tried sending my back foot to my bum when jumping, which helped as I am probably not raising my feet enough to land on the board

If you want skateboarders to inspire you, Rodney mullen obviously daewon song, Chris hallam, Andy Anderson, Sean malto also has some really fluid skating and is apparently the voice of shingo(second hand knowledge) also the best tip I can give to anyone practicing tricks if you land it start practicing the same trick in every variation, switch, nollie, fakie and you'll gain an overall level of ambidextrous instead of being stuck

That depends on your shoe comfort, for what you already had a good replacement are the vans hightops but they're not very durable. I wish I could say etnies. (Rip) globe aren't bad If you want a beefy lookin shoe but I find they get in the way, I even skated Jordan's for a bit just because they have undefeated grip and durability but they expensive af so it's all a trade fir preference 🤷‍♂️

Honestly the best thing I can advise is when you grip your board or even if you just visit the skate shop for some scrapped grip tape to sand down your tape a bit you'll save a couple months on your shoes

sleep posture can do a lot for sure. Staying hydrated can help with that kinda muscle lock

also massaging after sessions and cooldown excercises to help avoid lactic acid buildup... That's what gets you sore afterr a workout/session. And the stuff that'll be limiting your mobility the most in the long run (I think)

Your tail has a slightly sharper curve to compete with the nose but your nose is slightly longer, they do this to accommodate for nollie tricks since the fatter nose really does help. Just know the nose is always bigger and you'll start to spot it out for yourself(on a standard shaped skateboard I should mention)

I always throw regular T's on instead of the skinny ones they come with. Makes the turning a lot more surfy

Smaller board makes the footwork during traversal a little more exciting. They flex more than wood also, better on your bones/joints

Yellow and pink have a standard wheelbase end to end but like I said the trucks are too skinny and it makes the turning feel really unfamiliar

well on the bright side now you get to learn the differences between a solvent and a lubricant!

WD-40's not a lubricant and in the long run it dries out whatever you spray it on which will make your bearings perform worse/gunk up faster. If you want to lube your bearings up you should get an actual bearing lubricant. Bones Speed Cream is good and you only need a few drops every few months or so.

(WD-40 also leaves a residue. It's good for a lot of things but bearings is not one of them.)

My friend gave me some advice, instead of jumping from the squat you want to push the tail down when ur almost fully standing, ive also prioritized on getting my back foot farther from the ground before the front foot motion

Its hard to type out what to do because there are so many little things

Finally getting back into skating and ordered a setup for myself for Christmas. What do you guys think of the setup?

• 8.25" ATM James Martin Terminator (I like supporting lesser known skaters lol)
• Krux K5
• Some cheapo plain wheels (probably upgrade to F4s or Bones next summer)
• Spitfire cheapshots

Wanted to keep it budget friendly for now and will probably upgrade some stuff after this winter/spring

I've been out of the scene for almost 15 years so I'm not up to date on a lot of stuff. I only recently learned that 7.75" is no longer the norm 😂

Haha not sure I'd call them tires (sorry if English isn't your first language, just thought it was an interesting word choice) but it completely depends on what kind of skating you plan on doing. Do you plan on skating street, park, just cruising? Also need to consider the wheels durometer for the type of skating you plan to do

Yeah like parappa said, I'd probably go for 54mm and maybe like a 90a-96a if you do mostly cruising with a little bit of park skating. Up to 99a is fine if you spend more time at the park but they won't be as comfortable on rough surfaces. Definitely still doable though

Park likes smaller/stiffer wheels given the quality of the concrete, but for all around I'd recommend Powell or OJ's.. Size/Durometer just come down to personal pref. or use case scenario.

Worth taking a look at roller skate wheels too, as goofy as it sounds, you might find some cool stuff that bog standard companies wouldn't carry.

Thx u guys for sending me on skate iq channel, finally had the time to watch that shuvit video, watched the first 10 mins, tried to shuvit, about 4-5 try in I landed it ! Couldn’t do it again after but i’ll retry later. Crazy how just 1 or 2 tips about feet position etc can help so much. I had the board often flipping or going away from me. Now it’s always under my feet, just need to be more consistant on my back foot getting onto the board. BUT THANK YOU GUYS 🤘🏻

start from a stable squat down(don't go Too low)

do the motion of bringing your front foot to balance

& just play around with how hard you jump and pop it down

No pads woulda saved me anyways. The thing about wood being flexible is that it can bounce, and if there's nothing underneath it to support and stop it from doing that, it can make a lot go wrong.

Put simply it's supposed to be a ramp, not a trampoline.

Too small and the board might be flipping off too easy, but the difference, should be marginal if you have good board control overall so, yea. Practice.

That difference usually comes down to weight, over size. At least for me personally. In that a heavier board is going do be harder to flip by nature, like as you push a snowball around on the ground and it gets harder to move.
