If you don't have a lot of room, doing one legged squats can help a lot with building up strength and balance in that leg.
I have a box I stand on and dip down my other leg like I'm pushing but in the air (not letting it touch the ground). Hold weight to increase difficulty.
[also, train both legs. Otherwise you'll end up with one leg stronger and that's just weird after a certain point lol]

Ok we all gotta start somewhere. Definitely wait to do tricks until you get comfortable riding. Next try an ollie. To be fair tricks aren't the thing that could hurt you. It's more of doing lines like going into a grind and down a ramp. Your fiance shouldn't be worried. Just wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads. Don't get discouraged you can do anything you work hard for man.

A good start is to go to a legit skateshop and buy a good board amd ask questions if yoy have any. They will answer them. They have pre-built boards for new skaters. Once you get the board just work on getting used to balancing and riding on it.

You can also look up videos on YouTube if you want to look into it before you get a board. People have videos on good boards and how to get the one for you.

yeah my advice would be the same, go to your local skate shop
if you don't really have one around your area you might have a zumiez(as hated as the store is)If you'd rather get on online
ccs completes are good for starting out...I've had a couple friends skate them before
granted they're not going to feel as good/be as durable as "actual" brands but it's probably one of the best budget decks you can start with
If you have the money for it, i'd say build your own complete
i'd recommend bones bearings as a must...everything else is down to a preference, like i skate indy trucks, but they're known to be heavier than other...they have "Hollows" but they feel a little different from other light trucks..wheels anything really that's 92A...i ride spitfire
and grip...whatever again, though if you want to rip your shoes in half in a week, go with mob..but anything works..pick what you like first(except for bearings, get bones red lol)
also also there should be charts for what board size you should go with based on your shoe size...i can't really remember the scale rn, but i personally skate on 8.0's since i got small dawgs

heelflips are one of those things u just gotta mess around with foot position and just jump straight up, i set mine up like this

Mix up your practice between riding and flips and when your riding keep your focus on balance and landing your Ollie's nice and straight and as you get more confidence start throwing in your heelflip and you'll notice your landings starting to become more frequent and straight

Your body's instinctively trying to straighten out but on a board forward is relative to the nose so your trying to get your equilibrium matched to your stance which can throw people right off in the beginning if they spend too much time flipping the board over practicing balance and landings

This is coming from someone who’s skated for over 25 years. I’m 33. Started when I was 5. “Training” isn’t something you really do per se. It’s more like “practicing.”

Practice your balance before doing anything else. Don’t worry about switch. Don’t worry about Ollie’s. Don’t worry about shuv it’s or any tricks period. You can’t do none of that if you don’t have balance. It could take you weeks, months or even years to get balance down to where you’re comfortable riding down the block.

Since you’re starting, just do what you’re doing, practice pushing and turning. Push slow and get both feet on board, turn, do it again. when you start slowing down, push more, stand on both legs on board. And rinse and repeat till you get better. As you get better balance, try pushing faster or more consecutive pushes before standing on board with both feet. Then try turning with slightly more speed. All while not ignoring how to stop lol. That’s also important. Stop however you want for now.

I’d also highly recommend, making sure your trucks are loose enough to were you can turn with just your weight shifting to one side of the board. I’ve seen a lot of beginners practicing on tight trucks and they have to “tick tack” every second just to turn. That’s not really effective or efficient. Loosen them up a bit to where you can turn about 45 degrees with just weight alone. That’ll also help you learn to balance faster.

Many more tips you can have but you should just focus on the absolute basics. Pushing/turning/stopping.

Appreciate it. Yeah I’m taking it slow and I’m super happy with how far I’ve gotten just today.
I can do small pushes and I even feel comfortable going down little steep sidewalks, And I might try that soon.
My pushing is the issue right now for sure, Balancing on one foot I assume is crucial for being able to push properly, but my two footed balancing is good enough for me feel confident going a lil downhill as I mentioned, which is a huge improvement compared to when I was holding my walls for dear life just to stand on the board 😂

Nice. Yes having balance with one foot is indeed crucial. If you can turn or swerve with that one foot while pushing, that could almost build some calf muscle to help you balance better. You could even just do some random one foot squats on your dominant leg (leg you balance with, not push leg), and that’ll also help. You’ll get it eventually. 👍 skateboarding is all practice

picture an ollie as a seesaw motion

bring your back foot backwards And up with the board, slide your foot and nudge your body more towards the nose...have your front foot a little more forward..near the top 2 screws

when you jump, really try and "suck" your legs in more like waist height so you get more a higher pop, and give the board more time to come up and overall more control with leveling it

Without dragging the game convo in here.. I can't be the only one sad about the death of bowl skating.. I'll break bones that'll never heal if I try any of that now 🥲. Idk who's playing/developing this game but it's clear fundamentals like gravity and momentum are being ignored and distorted to please a crowd that would likely benefit from actually learning how to skateboard.. I play with my settings so I have as little assist as possible because I loved replicating the feeling as much as possible so Imagine the disappointment when I go to nose stall in the bronski bowl after the update just to get sent 7m into the air.. anyways sorry for the rant but I stg no one understands how badly they botched it and it's driving me insane 😭
