The luxury of having laces that can tighten your shoes how much you desire is just too good
weren’t slip on janoskis considered some of the best skate shoes for a long time?
or maybe just regular janoskis
Regular janoskis are awesome
I definitely couldn't do slip ons for more than just a casual walking around shoe, but even then most of those rub my heel raw
Bruh i can't send pictures in here i found pics of my old skool vans
can anyone teach me
or help with tips on how to ollie while moving
cuz i have it down while staying still
something i learned today while trying them is that you shouldn't roll too fast
I started with rolling slowly to a stop and then ollieing and then doing it while rolling slowly and just picking up speed as I keep practicing. I would also from now only practice tricks while rolling. It REALLY REALLY helps to learn as much as you can while rolling.
ok ty
Also in case you're getting discouraged remember that ollies are one of the hardest tricks to learn. Rodney Mullen had to invent them. It takes awhile. I've been skating since I was 10 and learning tricks since last summer and I couldn't ollie at all not even alittle until about 6 months in.
so if it takes awhile that's fine! Good luck!
Somehow I found myself almost landing a rolling kickflip today
2nd day of skating after 3 years
They weren't too wow but i was proud of them
The thing that is kind of on my mind and kind of annoys me is that i want to first learn to roll comfortably normal and switch before learning stuff
But riding switch is the weirdest thing
Not to mention riding fakie
I feel like i'm going to eat so much concrete before being comfortable in every stance
haha yeah switch is hard but but I've found it's gotten much easier as I practiced only few minutes each session. Like really start from the BASICS with learning switch early on. Like I've just been pushing around and riding slowly to figure out the weight and balance distribution for switch
fakie should get easier pretty quickly but It's a real struggle for the first little bit
yeah just the feeling of going backwards is wrong at the moment
and my body instantly goes off-balance
also i got triggered today that my brother said i should learn stationary ollies before doing them while rolling
I started to get it by putting my lead front almost up to the nose kicker before pushing off so that when I put my back foot back on the board it be in pretty much the middle
yeah its a real mental thing to get over lol
haha fair just keep at it then show him
yeah "show him" might be a stretch he's been skating for like 6 years something like that. he's 19 and i'm 15
he almost bust his ankle doing a treflip off a block
haha I know. But you'll get it and with him there to help you you'll be ollieing on to curbs and ledges in no time
That's the thing i want to learn as soon as possible. Just so that i stop getting off my board when i'm going towards curbs
I feel like those annoying 8 year olds that ride pennyboards
true true
what's been helping me recently is placing some pieces of wood or any other obstacle in front of the grass next to my drive way and trying to ollie over it into the grass. It helps forcing yourself to really hop over something. But don't try this yet unless you can already get a pretty okay ollie rolling just cause like if your not comfortable ollieing rolling yet you will get hurt trying to ollie over something
i ollied over a broomstick today (granted i grazed it with my back wheels in the end)
i didn't fall on any ollie tries but my dumbass fell while doing tic-tacs bro XDD
🙏
haha yeah tictacs and other foot work tricks can be a bit of a barrier but you get it pretty quick once you figure out how to move your upper body correctly for the trick
it's not that i am able to do them but it was so random cuz i wasn't really focused. I was going towards the bench i had my backpack on to grab my phone and check the time and i was doing tictacs cuz there was a ton of leaves on the skatepark. Next second i find myself flat on my back
Good thing i learned falling because i do karate
And my body subconsciously just rolled with the fall
My wheels didn't get stuck into leaves but the board just decided to yeet itself out of existence
And as soon as this board breaks i'm thinking of going up to 8.25
This 8 doesn't really feel very comfy to me
And i'm never buying a zooyork board again. They're not bad but i'd rather buy a flip board like my brother
Fair fair it's important to try out different sizes to find what's best for you
I skate a 8.25 for street
And for transition I skate a bigass 80s style shaped board that's like 10.- something
bro just buy a shop board from a local skate shop
I don't have a local skateshop
The biggest inconvenience of living in a small city
if you live in europe order a skatedeluxe board. its a online shop. great qualitiy-many shapes- cheap
or tx-sports
hey guys how come skate shoes don’t use velcro?
apart from it looking kind of childish it would be really useful
Since the shoes get worn the velcro straps would most probably fall off at some point
good point
At least with laces you can just put in another pair
i know some shoes have a velcro strap around the ankle usually high tops
Bro why is it everytime i wanna skate, it starts raining
because winter is horrible
😔
Damn facts…
give it a month and hopefully we’ll get some early springtime heat
or maybe two months
gets a garage with new home
…parks cars outside and has flat bar set up in garage

We have one here but there isnt much space to roll
Better than nothing though!
the thought of having your own little ramp in the garage is great
Agreed
unfortunately i’ve got no space in the garage
may need to find somewhere to build one
have you seen those guys who build ramps in the woods?
Yes! Would love to but, agaiin, freakin snow 🥲
man 😞
Bargain
I'm ordering them right now nocap
I wanted to order some sb's at first
But these half cabs are too good to turn down
They're usually around 100 bucks in my country
Yea super expensive. I rock nike sb but half cabs you can't turn down at that price
love half cabs. best mid tops
i might order a pair if i see some i like
They were some like really cool Janoski's too
But I've always wanted a pair of half cabs even before i started skating
they're just too nice
Picked up powell dragons today
Wow is all I can say
Immediately noticeable smoothness
yeee I just got some for christmas and holy hell man, I really thought they were just hyped up a lot but nah they're great
what’s the durometer on them?
might need to try them out
I’ve only ever ridden 99a and 80a
So I don’t have comparison for softer normal wheels
However these things were noticeably faster than my 99a
What wheels do you recommend? Everybody said spitfire or bones wheels but are there other options aswell? Or are those 2 really the best out there.
there are always rictas if you like softer options. i’m pretty sure they do some harder options like 99 and 101a like with the speedrings but its not hard to find the clouds or the cored clouds
mainly people just praise spitfire because of formula 4 and i don’t blame them
pretty good wheels that don’t get flatspots as often
personally i like a slightly softer wheel (92a 54mm ricta clouds) because i skate rougher spots
What would y'all recommend as something more balanced (as in they do decent in park and street)
I'm not thinking about changing my wheels yet but i kinda want to have an idea in advance
Also please someone tell me if enuff bearings are worth it i can't decide between bones and enuff bearings
Even though they're basically almost the same price
Ah okay thanks! i’m gonna get back to skating soon after 7 years and I sold my 3 other boards so gonna need a new one 😂
nice man, i got back into skating after 6 years just last summer
Nice! How is it going?
despite the crappy weather atm it’s been good, cruising round for the first time felt great
definitely still has that charm
haha true i need to go to a inside skatepark
thats good to hear, im curious how its gonna be i didnt touch a skateboard in 7 years lol
you know what i sort of struggled with for the first few minutes of being back on the board? the sort of balance you build on your front leg to really stable yourself when pushing
then it came back within a couple of hours
ah i see, getting my skateboard today im excited
Yo all 3 of us are basically in the same situation
But y'all had a way bigger pause than me
I only stopped for 4 years because of the pandemic
What board do you have?
I skated an Santa Cruz, Alien Workshop and Flip like 10 years ago
I can't wait to get a flip board after i break this zoo york one
Oh yeah but i guess its muscle memory
Once you remember how to cruise around do some tricks you'll be back
I wasn't that wow before the pandemic either but it still takes a toll on me
I've landed like some kickflips and ollied off curbs
But now i can't do even those
My rolling ollies are decent
I'm getting a Plan b board today
Heard some good things about it
I bet the only thing i can do is a ollie, i forgot my shuvits kickflips boardslides etc lol
It rained a lot these past couple of days but the parking lot in front of my block is pretty dry
I think i'll go skate some flatground and annoy the neighbours
We have a indoor and outdoor skatepark, so might go to the indoor for now cause its pretty cold
nice
can still kickflip, never expected that tbh
when i used to skate i was never big on tricks, i had more of a cruiser setup
would love to get into tricks
ah i had that aswell for the first 2 years and later on got into tricks when i was 12/13
but i could never land a kickflip back then, it took me ages and now the 3rd try i landed one lol
skated a small curb from my neighbourhood
nothing crazy done a couple small ollies off of it and tried some kickflips
and got a shinner 😬
Its bad weather where im at like for weeks man😭
yeah its like 3 degrees out here very cold
went to the indoor skatepark, it was so scary to drop in again lol
Indoor parks are the one welcome back to skating
The New York Times: The Brooklyn Banks, Famous Among N.Y.C. Skateboarders, Could Reopen Soon.
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/26/nyregion/brooklyn-banks-skateboarding-nyc.html
That would be awesome
woah thats sick
Trying to figure out some better board company’s
best rule of thumb is to just get a board from a board company in skate
just kidding but seriously you can’t go wrong with that
bro, I want my death wish board irl so bad
also, I'm sad bcuz the nearby college, which used to be kinda open to skating, capped one of their coolest spots
rip
Do we get to know what the giveaway boards look like before they give em out?
Oh heck yeah thanks
No doubt!
Good question lol
maybe it’s just varial flip bad tre flip good
just bought the beatrice domond AVEs on sale, hoping the weather will dry up soon and i can try them out
How often so Boosted restock their boards. I wanted a boosted mini but always sold out.
I'm not sure what the differences might be, but if you're looking for an electric board I've heard some good things about Bustin Board Company
they should try to make scoop and flip-able electric boards
maybe place the battery in the trucks
Like the YoFace hybrid board by Bustin Board Co?
they exist? nice
Ayo, i just wonder if by any chance someone could give me name of good helmet brand :)
dear god first boardslide attempt. rails and ass do not go together
I felt that
two days ago i olied a 3 stair first try and right after the 3 stair was a escalator and then i tried to skate down it but i face planted on to the escalator and my deck hit one of my friends
Hey
anybody want a skating playlist hmu
what that ?
Can someone help me. My foot just wont slide when i try an ollie
What board size should i get, im a mens size 13
Have a clip of what you are currently trying to do? That can help us know where exactly to help you out with what's going on
Board size and shoe size really don't matter a whole lot as it's dependent on what you are trying to do and personally find comfortable. A wider deck is harder to flip but can be more stable and perfect for transition skating while a smaller width is easier to flip but can be more twitchy and is great for street and technical tricks.
That being said, you'll probably find a deck around an 8.25 to be comfortable to start with. I recommend going to a skate shop as they'll typically let you stand on the decks so you can get an idea before you pick one and can make sure you are getting what you need
Ok, thanks for the help
late but personal opinion, i have the same shoe size and i skate 8.5. Its pretty wide like sky said but feels alot more stable and wont be that hard to flip because of your shoe size
Should I skateboard tmrw? It's gonna be 2 degrees Celsius with the feel of -1
Damn this chat is dead
timezones my dude its work o clock
if you skate you'll warm up pretty quick, send it
Alr time to street skate bc the skatepark is 56 minutes away in a walk and my parents car broke downnnn
And i can't get a ride cus it's family day

Might be going skating for the first time in a few years , any tips on how to deal with the kid bully’s , I sadly can’t hit them
Yo can someone recommend me a deck that is 8.25 an thats like spammed with small pictures or stuff yk?
Pay no mind and do your thing
Is there a board irl to compare what you want? Or you just want a chaotic graphic
Kinda yea
Not sure personally, just go to your local skate shop and pick the one that speaks to you
Just get a plain color board and buy tons of stickers
That would be a lot cheaper and you can choose what you want on there
Personally I couldn’t find anything like I was trying to find from your description
Skateboards usually don’t have the stickers on the actual deck you have to put them on yourself
If you just want a cool trippy looking deck I can probably help
I think this one is sick https://splattergoat.com/products/psychedelic-goat-skate-deck
Splattergoat just has cool decks and merch overall
Still thanks tho
I found a dude walking buy who had exactly the board i was looking for. I will ask him saturday whats his deck called
I found 2 crazy decks that are just like i want
sick
https://www.skatedeluxe.com/de/robotron-randy-8-25-skateboard-deck-multi_p156963?cic=DE&doid=rdcd_comlo&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=de&gclid=CjwKCAiAl9efBhAkEiwA4Torin39Hj8iZdYUC6-bJl2j04JUAh3N_eUHlncJbosASj8tH88AQViM1hoCxX0QAvD_BwE i love this but i feel like its a wannabe deck
nah that graphic hard lol
Fr imma buy it i think imagine shredding a sick line with it lol
I cant even ollie🗣️🔥
if i realy tried how cheap do you guys think i can get all the parts for a board
bus?
Probably because most are patiently waiting for news to talk about.
To answer your question about how cheap you can get board parts for, it's not really a question that can be answered. What kind of parts are you looking for? What kind of board? You could get a very cheap set-up for almost nothing that barely rolls and has no pop. You could potentially even get a used board from a friend for free. Or you could buy a decent complete for around $75-$100.
Or you could buy specific parts individually and end up with a board that costs around $200.
bruh why so expensive 😭
Is it better to learn skate tricks while moving or stationary
starting out its definitely easier to learn stationary, but better to learn tricks moving
Learning stationary is different cuz it's half fakie half regular
do you guys have any suggestions for a board
Plan B boards are some decent ones but a little pricey
Yea, i looking to buy a low budget board
Go to a skate shop, look at their completes, pick one
Or i could just buy my cousins old board
all I have is 70 dollars and I can't order from a skate shop, since I don't think there is one near us. What site do you recommend I buy from. I found ccs and skate warehouse Im thinking about getting the ashbury from skate warehouse or the ccs logo skateboard complete.
You really can't go wrong with either of them. But drop a link to both so we can see your options you're weighing
There’s something great in the transformation of a deck the more you skate it. Whether you draw, paint, stencil your own graphic, or let your skating create its own graphic, the CCS Logo deck only gets better with time. CCS Skate Deck Dimensions: 7" Width x 27.75" Length - Wheelbase: 12" 7.5" Width x 31" Length - Whe
Yeah, either one of those is gonna be great to start with. If you go with the CSS board, just be mindful of the width of the deck you pick. If you have smaller feet the 7/7.5 might feel a bit small. I recommend an 8 as a good starting point and then later you can decide if you want to go wider or smaller
Can’t go wrong, another name brand.
Any tips to prevent ankle sprains
Cause i sprained mine so bad
Wont be able to skate until April
ive been skating for years and ive got many i dont think they are beatable
😦
I still want to skate but i dont want my mom always dealing with me and my ankle sprains
😂
Yes, work on training and building up your ankle strength and dont wear shoes all the time that lock your ankle up from moving like a cast. It takes time to build up as tendons and ligaments take longer to train and build up than muscles do, but it can be done.
This guy could help out some
https://youtube.com/shorts/otH0z6GLxig?feature=share
Go see what your local shop has instead of ccs, same if not better prices locally
I managed to find a almost tiny lizzy board for 40, I instantly took it
If this really works then you made my day
guys i really dont understand, even after a year_ of skateboarding i still find myself having 0 steeze if i watch a few of my clips
anyone got some tips?
How comfortable are you on your board? I notice a lot of steezy riders seem to be so comfortable their board seems like a part of their body
It depends. Im pretty comfortable on most things, working on my transision rn, but today when i when for a ollie on the box and pop shuv off, it didnt look good nor did it look comfortable on cam. But when I look on different clips it looks way better even though it was pretty much a harder trick for me to do
Is there like, ambedextrious skaters. Like they can ride regular nd goofy?
Rubber?
Yeah, those that practice being in both stances
Wouldn't most pros fall under this? They'll still have a primary but they're very good both ways?
Guys should I learn to grind with or without wax
You should learn to get up on the object without wax first.
Wax makes things easier and let's you go longer but if you learn with wax, then when you try it without wax you'll see where your technique is lacking and have to relearn a tiny bit of how to adjust your balance to keep momentum going.
If things are nice and slippery to begin with, it can hide problems in your technique causing you to get "stuck" later
Once you figure out how to get on the ledge/rail and can grind for a bit, then you'll naturally figure out when you need/want wax to help you out
Thanks @rustic bough
Does anybody have tips to help with ollies, I've been getting my board to pop but I can't move my legs in time
Are dc cure shoes actually skate shoes or no
I wonder
I have some cure high tops but dont use them for skate
I like em for style
I might buy another pair if they are actually for skating
I mainly felt buying some dcs in honor of Ken Block 😦
Some tips that helped me:
Make sure your ball of your foot is on the tail, not the middle of your foot. Think about how you jump, how you almost use your toes more than the center of your feet, you want to be able to jump off of it. Make sure your back foot is far enough back too, make sure you can get it to snap right. And make sure your back foot is off of it as soon as it hits.
For your front foot, just watch a video of what to do with it, and you'll have it.
If you're practicing in the grass, put your front wheels in the grass, and your back wheels on concrete so you can still get pop. If you put your back wheels in grass, they might sink into the grass and not allow you to get pop.
If you didn't understand half the crap I just said DM me and I can give you all the tips I was given in more detail lol
thanks for this 🙏🏾, def made progress almost got it
Of course! Good luck my friend!
I can't land both feet on my kickflips. I only land with my backfoot I tried multiple times to commit with just my front foot but the only thing i got were some FAT shinners.
And my flick is currently a bit inconsistent sometimes i don't spin the board all the way
I think you should try to focus more on the commitment part for a bit. It doesn't matter if your board doesn't spin all the way even if you land with your both feet on the wrong side you will be more likely to commit when your board will spin correctly. If your still struggling with that try holding on to something while training your kickflip. Didn't work out for me but it does for some people. Convince yourself that you WILL land each try
I have a question about how I should start skating
So what type of skateboard should I get, and what tricks should I do
Also have to ask if scooting or skating is better, kinda like both
Def personal preference on scooter vs skate but ill leave it to actual skaters to answer the rest.
Considering you're in a discord about skate. and Skateboarding, I think you know the answer to that question here haha
Best answer is go to a local skate shop and let them help you out. They can guide you in person to make the best decision for you.
As for tricks:
- 1st trick you should learn is how to stand on the board without it shooting away from you.
- 2nd trick is learning how to push and get comfortable riding around.
- 3rd which is the most important trick, is learning how to stop! Pro tip, don't ever go faster than you can comfortably stop. Because if not, then your stopping will definitely not be comfortable by any definition.
Once you're comfortable there, a 360 hardflip is right around the corner!
Lol, but seriously, just focus on getting comfortable and enjoying the feeling. Then the Ollie is the secret to everything else
Just took two screenshots of the text, thanks for the reply
What do you mean by trick one, by the board not shooting away
You'll see when you go to stand on it. Things got wheels that spin and all
Oh so you mean the board shouldn’t be faster than me
I understand
But another thing: I live in a kinda small city so there isn’t any skate shops near me. I think I’m gonna get a board from Polar Skate Co
Jus order it
I have the same problem but I can flick and land consistently with my back foot once the other foot comes in it doesn't flick fast enough and the other part is fear of course
Did yall get into skating because of tech deck
Na i got into it cuz of Skate 3
When did you start skating
2019? i think
started on a crappy like Amazon board
then later got e legit setup started learning more stuff
Bro he is not buying that
Nope. This is not a for sale/buy/trade site.
Theres no rules against it tho I thought it was okay. Y'all should add it to the rules for future reference.
"No affiliate or referral links, or links to other Discords." thought this is what it meant by "advertising"
You're advertising a sale is the point. You should check out Facebook, there are a ton of skateboard collector groups that you can post in and probably get a hit there.
Does anyone ever have their trucks lose
At least for me I have em loose cause I like feeling like I’m surfing
Yes, and if they don't feel loose enough, I get softer bushings
Totally. I love that carving feeling.
Hey guys I edit videos if anyones interested
yooo what's good dudes
we finally got a skatepark in my city
oh, i wanted to share some photos but i think it's disabled on this channel
#irl-skate-pics for your irl skate pics. New park? Very cool!
any tips for moving pop shove it’s? i always land with one foot but have landed a couple times. (have fakie and stationary pretty consistent)
look in #irl-skate-videos-and-clips for video
Finally got my ollies so I can actually do them, but i'm real nervous to do them off the grass ngl
Anyone got any tips on how to not be a little puss puss?
I hate living in a place with super high humidity
My bearings in my wheels rusted so bad that I can't even move anymore man
Is skate punk/rock still around?
like I know that the bands are but is the movement?
I recommend zealous ceramic bearings for if your in high humidity/puddles. Cheaper than Bones ceramic and works well. The lubricant they use is a little thicker than others but it helps keep out the dirt and water from staying in
Thanks man
if i naturally turn backside for any spin tricks, should i learn a frontside 180 first or a backside 180 first?
every video says frontside is easier
but i dont naturally turn frontside
I learned BS first but FS is easier
Just depends on what foot you have on the board
and which you pump with
I can finally Ollie while moving, big w. Just gotta work on my pop, gonna see about getting a recording on here
I need to start learning again
I did a class, but I only learnt drop-ins, tic tacs, moving and stopping
Never have been able to ollie
Was looking at getting an Enjoi board for Christmas, love that company’s aesthetic
Need more of their products in Skate.
I have a board from years ago
Palace
And that's all i remember
I also remember a board on the wall at the place I learned skateboarding that said Hong Mutha naughty no-no f word Kong
I wished I could have it, but my mum vetoed that decision
Ooh, you had a Palace skateboard? That’s actually sick, I like those
Does anyone know if Big Brother released dvds?
Knowing that we're 2 years away from the 20th anniversary of My Chemical Romance's "The Black Parade" makes me feel older than I want to.
When I was
A young boy
my father
Took me
dms
Guys im gonna be buying my first skateboard soon any recommendations about bearings trucks ect....?🧟♂️
Bones bearings! The rest I'll leave up to the more consistent skaters
Thanks
Wtfff why are they so expensive
Which ones are you looking at? Bones reds are around $17-$20usd
If you're looking for a good board for a cheaper price, most completes around the $80-$100 price range will be just fine for your first board. You can get picky about stuff later
Nah im not picky but we have like 3 skate shops in our city and the websites are very limited
https://boardshop.bg/8-125-europe-fp-complete-black.html
Is this one any good?
you should go with an 8.25 or an 8.5 best board sizes imo
Is there a big difference
not too much of a difference apart from the wider board and a little bit heavier but its just personal preference i found 8.5 works the best
for me atleast i guess
Well i dont really know my preference since i haven't skated before but this ones is a good price for a complete
yeah i would recommend that first and then if you ever wanted try out an 8.5 👍
That's a great starter board. The size is fine as well. Wider and heavier doesn't always mean better. That's completely personal preference
Thanks
Ty
np
I need help with a Ollie I have a video but I can’t send videos yet here. But like I can’t get my front foot to go up like idk I’m just doing it wrong I can’t jump high enough
You can send video in #irl-skate-videos-and-clips
I prolly have a dumb question to skaters
but I'm just starting, I have a nice board but I'm wonering if I can replace the bearings and wheels relatively easy
the deck and trucks are nice, but I kind of wat to upgrade a bit without buying a whole new board
Super easy. A little tricky at first but you can do it
ok
If you have questions just post em. I can walk you through it
there's prolly a youtube vid on it
are bone's reds good?
and although I'm not gonna get wheels anytime soon probably would 54mm's need spacer plates to prevent wheelbite?
Reds are good yea
Depends on personal preference and how tight your trucks are whether you need risers or not
I had type up a whole thing and internet went out and it never sent. But yeah, what TeksKecks said
Aww, that's lame of them, man. Bullies are usually projecting and feel pretty low about themselves. Keep protecting your melon. It'll serve you better than the bullies' opinions.
Oh no! How dare you care about the most important part of your body!
I second Lanti's statement
Brain injury is no joke. And not everyone recovers.
Agree. Don't listen to them and keep protecting yourself.
Ok. Thanks
Can someone please tell me why my ollies keep landing slightly sideways? i did some deep searching but no tutorials work
All in the shoulders
Means your turning your chest and shoulder
Keep everything lined up
False.
If your shoulders are in line, check your hips. If your hips are in line, check your feet
Everything’s in line but still
not going straight
How do I know to replace my bearings or not
And do I do em all at once or at different times
If everything is lined up then you’d be straight
It’s super un natural to land moving forward with your body sideways
Growing up I’d do a minimum of a 100 a day just to practice whenever I could that helped a lot
And also filming
Yup all at once. When you buy new ones they come with 8 (2 per wheel) you wanna replace em when you literally cant move on your board haha
Drop a vid in #irl-skate-videos-and-clips
Its either your shoulders arent straight or your flicking your feet to the side. Easy to fix no stress
ok thanks
Make sure your foot placement is correct. Your feet are going to be more staggered that perfectly in a straight line. I suggest searching it up on YouTube as there's not much we can suggest without seeing you actually ollie
I’ve been trying to for the past year 😩
And yes I did go on Yy but nothing rlly helps
how do i fakie bigspin
i always get one foot and when i try and get two feet i always stick them both on the tail
or i slip out
I don't skate but just do it a few times a day and you'll gradually get better someone else probably got better info but I'd think it's like getting better at other things so just do it a few times a day and you should see improvement
Try landing halfway and pivot the rest on your back wheels sort of like in a manual
Yea try it halfway first like @neat owl said and pivot it around. Youll also need to lean over the board more, or where its going to be after the shove and you do the 180
That should stop you landing both feet on the tail
man someone help me learn how to kickflip, this shits getting ridiculous
Just bailed for the first time. I feel like that completes my initiation
i agree
anyone got any tips for noseslides on curbs, i can stall them really comfortably but whenever i try to add some speed the board stops moving and i dont
Got wax?
Also, is wax a gimmick?
Nodeslides need you to move your foot further back to slide. Its 70/30 with speed and wax
If youre going forward and the board isnt, that confirms it. Move your foot back to push with the board
And try to bend down and lean into it more so you dont go over the board
So ive been skating a week now
And i see no improvement on my ollie. I cant do it. Ive been trying to shuv as people say thats easier and i cant even do that. Whats up with that?
You've only been skating a week, that's what's up with that.
Keep at it. Film yourself and watch what you are trying to do to see how you can correct it. Most importantly, ride. Ride around. Get comfortable on the board. Jump up off your board while riding and land back on it. Ride. Learn to ride off of a curb by lifting your front wheels up. Ride around.
1:
I get the whole week thing but however i have tight trucks which apparently helps on tricks or whatever and well a week is a week
2:
i am very comfortable im talking going down hills comfortable
3
i can ride off of a curb like that (none of this was intended to be offensive)
Trucks tight can help in the beginning, but that's more of a personal preference really. Tighter trucks help early on by compensating for a lack of balance. Just make sure they aren't so tight they are destroying your bushings.
Be careful on the downhill part. Make sure you only go as fast as you can comfortably stop.
If you can ride off a curb like that, then cool. That can actually help you get the timing for an Ollie down once you get used to the moments.
If you're really feeling stuck you can always video yourself and put it in #irl-skate-videos-and-clips so we can see what's going on
"A week is a week"
Mfw I've been skating 20 years and I'm not the best in the world
Tight trucks is good as sky says to help with support in doing tricks while being still. Keep practicing, it's hard work but it's so worth it
Do I need skate shoes to Ollie, cause mine right now dig into the grip tape
What you mean by "dig into the grip"?
If you're wearing something like tennis shoes with the soft foam cushion sole that's gonna get eaten up real quick
Like I can't kick forward
Have you done the practice sliding foot up thing?
At least skate shoes are cheap
What's that

Ok thanks
spent 3 hours at my local park today cooked my shoulders but man did i improve, also i need good elbow and knee pads any suggestions
187 killer pads
Those are nice and I believe they have options to replace the hard parts if they get worn down without having to buy all new pads.
I just use protect I got off Amazon
My board broke😭😭
buy new idk xdxd
ayo
any typs for shuv it, i know it is very easy, some of you might say it is easier than an ollie, but i just cant get it.
i can do the scoop, and i can catch the board with one foot, but the other stays on ground
anytime i try different ways it is just the same
i cant get my other foot on the board
try messing with your foot timing. its hard and takes many tries but having a foot stuck like that could be because one foot is moving too early or maybe the other one is moving too late. just like with an ollie, lets say your front foot does everything perfectly, if you back foot doesn’t lift at exactly the right time, nothing is gonna happen 😃 if you can already catch it you are almost there!
dm me a video
i can help i had the same problem @zenith marlin
Or, you know, put the video in #irl-skate-videos-and-clips so we can all see and give feedback
yeah
Maybe lean into the tail just a bit until you can feel the tension in your front foot release. Youll definitely do a lot of those shuvs if youre not popping off the back foot. Theres a difference between a pop shove-it and a shuv. I spent a whole summer in my street doing shove its and I still have trouble catching the front foot just right. Its all about getting that center or gravity above the back bolts.
@zenith marlin
@crisp niche idk how much you like Star Wars but I just saw element has a few decks for half price
https://www.elementbrand.com/star-wars%25e2%2584%25a2-%257c-element-stormtrooper-skateboard-deck-194844127150.html
Okay these are super cool. I've seen skate decks come in OG star wars toy style boxes too
Cheap enough you could skate it
Anything is skateable if you try hard enough
Just wait for someone to make a skateboard outta fiberglass 😂
I only say that because I'm not allowed to skate my Y2 deck
That makes sense
Besides, if I had a Y2 deck, I’d be babying it
Or any Skate. deck for that matter
Until you heard the poppyness of the wood when you handle it. Feel the curves of the concaves of the deck mold providing what seems to be the perfect rocker. The pocket of the tail just ready to be ankle flicked down for lift off with the tuned amount of springiness
It’s beautiful to put into words, even better in person, huh?

Welp, time for me to go take even more NFS pics for another few hours
Bravo Six, goin’ dark 👋
I approve\
What is this y2 deck thing
As fare as my knowledge goes, it’s a deck made to commemorate the new Skate. game’s development
Don’t take my words to heart though, I’m sure someone else could provide a more definitive answer
Yeah thanks
Anytime!
This thing is just gorgeous
is it normal to have only three wheels touch a surface when you aren't standing on the board
If there isn't a noticeable warp in the deck itself, then it's probably just the bushings and not much to worry about. But if you examine the deck and notice a warp one way and it's relatively new, then you might want to contact who you got the deck from
Only if you notice an issue when you're actually riding the board. Or if your bushings are on the older side.
If on the newer side then they might just need a little more riding on them.
Or if your bushings are cranked down too much that can be an issue too since they are basically being destroyed. In that case I'd look up the ones you currently have and then get the same ones but a harder version that way you get the tighter feel your looking far without having to crank em down so much
thanks
are there different size bushings
I think ima get soft ones
my friends said my trucks were way too lose so I tightened em and tightened em and that prolly messed up my bushings
Yep. some taller, some smaller some more cone shaped some barrel shaped. Welcome to the rabbit hole.
But if you don't want to dive in, just look up what trucks you have and search bushings for them. If you get the wrong size then your trucks will sit at a different geometry angle and change how they feel when turning and also make them sit a bit higher or lower.
is that necessarily a bad thing?
Not really, but it will alter how it feels along with how much turn you get vs lean
This video and the second top comment explains a lot

Pretty spot on.
We had a Year 1 deck to celebrate 1 year since the announcement of the game, then a Year 2 deck designed in collaboration with DIME/Vincent Tsang.
Year 3 is on the horizon...
anyone on?
Delayed but yes
what about now
Hello

Would anyone like to play a game of S.K.A.T.E.?
Film 5 tricks and post them in #irl-skate-videos-and-clips and see if people would make them or not! Film your attempts in response!
I can't do one trick lol
oh mann reading all this makes me want to hop on my board butt i cant i must wait for my foot to recover😭
Hey guys. I got a question. I did skate in the past during my teenages, but nowadays, like 10 years later, I am kinda overweighted due to my working and studying routines in the last years. Let's say, I am like 110kg (more or less) and 1,75m tall, is it ok to get a new skate? If so, what would you recommend? I have only the idea of using it for fun, just walk away with it and learn again. I plan to lose some weight since I shall join rugby again and do some other sports. But meanwhile, I fear to break any new skateboard I buy. So please, tell me what skate and wheels should I buy for now so I don't have an unfortunate surprise.
Longboards can hold between 200-250 lbs (90 - 114kg). Short boards (regular skateboards) usually max out at 220 lbs. (100kg)
By max out, I mean they have a great propensity to snap, especially if you land wrong.
Recommendation:
Get back into the groove with a strong, maple longboard (I roll Sector 9 decks - the Vortex is a great little cruiser) so you get your "legs" under you (get back into the flow of riding, balance, etc.)
As you work on your health journey, you'll be adding to it by riding the longboard. Once you get to a spot you're comfortable with, check out a short board (regular skateboard)

how long did it take you guys to learn shuvits
not long with a bit of practice
Pop shuvits were faster to learn for me than Shuvs could be different for you a mate of mine has shuvs down where ive got pop shuvs
Thanks man I keep getting them down when i do it into grass and i slowly back up. And then i can do it normally. But i can only do it when im facing grass for some reason. If not i dont commit. And when i get distracted by something I cant commit. I can always feel if im gonna commit or not
just one of them things the confidence will come with time, sometimes its easier to roll and do it and just try and tell yourself to commit its a strange barrier to cross mentally I find
if you can try and commit every try that is one with good rotation the more commitment to tricks the easier it should be to commit to other tricks in the long run
Best of luck on the skating journey
about a week but it’s a really easy motion to understand
to get them consistently i was in the garage trying them for at least an hour a day, always learn your tricks while rolling, because it is so much different stationary and plus, when are you ever going to do tricks while standing still? shuvits were easier for me to land while rolling, just because of the scoop
Thank you guys so much. Alot of support i needed
so like, i just started skating maybe a few weeks ago, and ive been having problems turning while on ramps, any suggestions?
Do you have problems turning when not on ramps?
You mentioned kick turns specifically in general. Also, how comfortable are you at just riding up the ramp and back down again without the turn?
In what way?
In general, turning comes from the shoulders. Point your forward shoulder in the direction you want to turn and the rest of your body follows.
I just remember how I got the timing down for kick turning on a ramp, I was skating in a bowl and I kept just riding it back and forth not turning. There was a moment I felt this weightlessness when I would reach the top before I would come back down. After being comfortable with that I just had this instinct that if I turn at the apex of the weightless feeling I would make it and that's exactly what happened.
I think if I thought about it too much and was actually trying to kick turn as the goal I might've not been able to get comfortable and feel that moment I needed to.
So there's my advice.
Get comfortable just riding on a ramp and feel for that moment.
On flat practice kick turning and doing tic tacs.
Beginer skater y'all have any tips
Confidence is key!
Is 59mm rough rider wheels good for road?
Depends on the road and what kind of skating you're doing
These are what I'm using for my cruiser build, and I love them.
Hi! Quick question, I've been skateboarding on the streets 15 years ago when I was a teenager, haven't skateboarded since. I was thinking about picking up a longboard to just cruise around. When I tried boards the dancer board actually felt great and very easy to ride (I immediately noticed I'm older now lol) should I go for a cruiser style board anyway or just take the dancer board? (I have zero intention to dance on it)
So there's so many other options in between a cruiser and a dancer. If the dancer feels a little too big but still want a nice longboard cruise ride and don't have an interest in doing street tricks, something like the Landyaychtz Drop Cat or Battle Axe 38 would be a comfortable ride!
If you want something more like a cruiser with a tail, but not quite a shortboard the something like the Landyaychtz Ripper or Dipper would be a great ride.
Then cruisers are self explanatory.
But welcome to the world of possibilities that longboards have!
I only used Landyaychtz for reference but there's other great brands out there. I know Jeff loves his Sector9, and I have an Arbor Pintail that feels so surfy and flowy to ride
(for the record, skated street/parks as a kid growing up. Took a break around 18-27ish back at it again and 30 now. Can't keep me away from a board for long!)
Thanks! The battle axe looks great! If I understand correctly the longer the board it will feel more "flowy" and smooth right? I noticed the dancer board didn't feel wobbly and was easy to use balance wise. Are there any downsides on having a long big board like a dancer board? Except of it being huge to carry around ofcourse
It's huge and typically has smaller wheels for easier flips. Most long boards are going to feel pretty stable because they are bigger and are wide/have wider trucks so that's not going to change much unless you get a more narrow/smaller board
I recommend checking YouTube on some of the boards you're looking at. They have some great run downs of what to expect
I've really been enjoying the Landyachtz Skiff (I have this one: https://landyachtz.ca/products/skiff-self-help), and I have Battle Axe for commuting. (https://landyachtz.ca/collections/longboard/products/battle-axe-black-space-rock)
Super smooth rides, both. The Skiff is such a nice all-around board, and the big wheels don't care about the cruddy asphalt roads around here. They just keep rolling.
Found a few second hand landyachtz in the area. Some decks are a bit rough but maybe it could be nice to start with and see from there. I placed a bid on a battle axe
I will say drop through decks for longboarding are gonna give you best feelings. Provides smooth stable experience and help woth foot pain from long rides imo. I do love the dancers though but they are very pricey and only few companies make them well atm. If certain on dancer id suggest loaded boards for em or landyatches new lineup
€60 for a pretty scratched battle axe. Owner says the wheels are still perfect
is it wired i can bs180flip but cant bs180 or kick flip lol
A little weird but I wouldn’t complain lol
yea lol
Yo yo how y’all doin
Chillin! How are you!
nah, all 3 of them are pretty different
all about how you catch em
Our park just got a miniramp heck yeah
hey so i’ve been skating for around 2 years but a couple of months ago i sprained my ankle and had to stop skating. and now i’ve got back on my board i’ve lost pretty much all tricks except my ollies and shuv-it’s. i just cant do them on concrete anymore and i fear of falling off my board doing tricks on concrete. can someone help me out?

How comfortable are you just riding around and cruising on concrete again?
i’m very comfortable i can go long distances without falling off and can keep pushing consistent and comfortably
Fear is what keeps us alive. But sometimes it gets in the way. Best way to be comfortable again is to go back to the basics every time you chicken out. Take a step back and do something you are comfortable and confident again to build it back up in yourself.
Scared to Ollie, maybe try just rolling off a curb, then doing baby ollie's off that curb when you are confident in your timing. Small things
thank you very much, luckily i’ve got a group of friends who skate and they’re gonna help me as they’re amazing at skating. it’s just how slippery it can get. do you think skater trainers will help me if i take them tomorrow and then practice with them on concrete and then take them off?
If you feel that's a step that will help you build up confidence in your movements then by all means!
Also, start doing this:

thank you!! i really appreciate it 🫶🫶
hey can someone help me with tips doing kickflips down stairsets
got really close yesterday
Anyone know what board this is or /what it looked like (not my board originally)
It's a dark star board with a nite on it
A nite?
I’m assuming they might mean a “knight”?
Yea idk! Lol
Did you try asking chatgpt? It's actually quite good at finding stuff you vaguely describe to it
So I've been diagnosed with early onset arthritis in my toes from skating all my life. Best remedy is to stretch and have wider shoes. Any recommendations that AREN'T Osiris D3's
I remember Etnies having some really wide nosed models
Does anyone have any tips on finding people to skate with?
Yo can u guys give me some tips for varial kf it doesn't shove right
Hang your toes off a little more to give it a better scoop when you pop
Go to your local park and just skate get into conversation and maybe ask for the number if you understand good with the person to text when to do a sesh
I just landed it today
Check it on #irl-skate-videos-and-clips
Anyone going to X-Games next weekend in Ventura, California? Might see me there (obviously not competing. LOL)
Would be dope to see the X games in person but it's about 9000km from here so I gotta pass haha
I recently moved states and I've been itching to get back into skating again but I forgot my both my skateboards. I figure its time to get a new setup anyways had both for years. I had a Toy Machine and Plan B deck. Any other board recommendations? (I've actively been doing research as well)
I would if the tickets weren’t $200 each🤒
I got my 3 day pass (plus the deck add-on) for $217.
Luckily, it's just an 90 min drive from my house in Long Beach to Ventura.
Deck 👀
I KNOW! I want to see it. They didn't have anything on the site.
And... tested positive for Covid. No XGames IRL for me.
That sucks man, hope you've got no symptoms
Oh, I'm quite sick. lol
dang 😦
Feel better brother. Gonna suck being stuck in bed but do what you gotta do to get back to it. I had maybe 2 or 3 days of really feeling sick and the rest was just lingering symptoms
Skyfi and @noble current thanks for the advice I picked up a mint Landyachtz Battle Axe Space Rock today for just €130 and already absolutely love it. Girlfriend also really loves it so the search continues for another board
I think I'm going to pick up a smaller Arbor zeppelin Flagship so we can go together. It feels really good to be back on a board after 15 years
Awesome!!! Im happy the recommendation helped out!
If it's Paris trucks on the Arbor you're looking at you might get a little jealous. Bear trucks are great! But Paris trucks are surfy and smooth feeling. Depending on her weight, you might want to get some different bushings for her if you notice they seem a little stiff or hard for her to maneuver easily. Mine had come with 90a bushings and they were a bit too hard. Swapped them with some orange Orangatang Moose Knuckles and perfect sailing.
hey guys,
I just sent a pic on #irl-skate-pics of a plan b deck (8.25)
I read online that 8.25 is mostly used for vert(half-pipes) and bowls
is that accurate?
Plenty of street skaters ride 8.25. in fact from what I've seen around that seems to almost be the most popular board size.
Board size doesn't really matter much as long as you are comfortable. The skinnier the board, the easier it is to flip, but it's more twitchy. The wider the board the slower it is to flip, but it's more stable and easier to land on.
Seeing your height in general that sounds like a great size, you might even like an 8.5. not much difference between them really but the more you ride the more you'll know how you want your next board to feel
Hey, does anyone have any advice on how to keep ollies straight when landing? Half the time when I ollie I land angled to the right. I ride goofy.
Glad to hear it! I hope you both have a ton of fun!
Are you twisting your shoulders so you're facing forward? Something like that can affect your landing.
Oh yeah that would probs fix them. Thanks 👋
ideal truck and wheel size for an 8.0 deck?
Yes the zeppelin has the Paris trucks. I tried it out at the local store here and it feels really nice. It was a 32 inch board zo it felt a lot different than the battle axe but I liked both. I can see myself using the Arbor going to work through the city center because it turns a lot faster. I also saw a Arbor Sizzler which is a cruiser that could also work really well. I don't know which trucks that one has though
Whoops it was a reply on this
Oh the Sizzler also has Paris trucks
tips on how to kick flip?
Subscribing, liking and commenting helps me make a living doing these videos. So if you do those we are in love. I TRY TO POST DAILY AT 9:45 AM
Every secret and tip I know for having proper tweaked and popped kickflips
this vid helped me a lot
Additionally. while trying to do kickflips if you land with one feet on the board for example your right feet, then try to land with your left feet on the board and right on the ground. If you can do that it shows you can land with both feet, the only thing then is to commit
tips on how to ollie?
Dont just push down on the tail, the motion for popping it is more like slamming it into the ground, its the same as when you pick up your skateboard. Also, remember lift up your back foot when you pop.
Has anybody here owned/worn a pair of Nike SB Ishod Wair’s? Are they any good?
recommendations for wheels/bearings for street skating? asphalt here is pretty rough.
Are Nike SB Zoom Janoski’s a reliable and comfortable skate shoe?
I have the same problem here, but I've had good luck with these: https://bones.com/skateboard-wheels/rough-riders
For the bearings, I used these last time and have been pretty happy with them: https://nhsskatedirect.ca/products/g3-box-8-bronson-speed-co-skateboard-bearings?shpxid=ab3cb0b6-b2f8-43a4-8455-6c3c2e42a821&utm_campaign=product-shop&utm_content=G3 Bronson Skateboard Bearings

Deep Groove Raceways-Balls roll deep in raceway channels-Reduces side impact damage & breakageStraight Edge, Removable Frictionless Shields-Pop off resistant-Hold oil in, dirt and moisture out-Easy to cleanMicro Groove Raceway Surfaces-Linear micro-groove surfaces ...
I usually skate Bones Reds, but these were cheaper, and I didn't know how hard the roads around here would be on the bearings. The ride is pretty comparable, from what I've found.
To add to Lanti, depending on what kind of skating you are doing you might want to look at some cruiser type wheels like the bones rough riders mentioned. If you're doing a lot of cruising compared to tricks bumping it up to 60mm wheels like the Landyaychtz EZ Hogs. They are softer than the bones but are still small enough to do tricks.
The larger and softer the wheels, the smoother the ride
Ooh, I forgot about those. So smooth. If you like to order online, they're having a sale on wheels, too.
https://landyachtz.com/collections/hawgs-wheels
Wheels are arguably the most important part of a skateboard, responsible for roll speed, comfort and traction. While it is easy to copy the shape and color of a wheel and call it "high quality", it requires a lot of experience, knowledge and testing to produce a wheel that rolls fast, stays round and provides a predict
Hey I’m a complete newbie at skating who just started skating yesterday and I need some advice, any help?
Keep most of your weight on your front foot for balance and learn to push and ride. Ride. Spend time riding. Get comfortable rolling. Don't go faster than you can comfortably stop. Get comfortable standing on a board with wheels while moving
@rustic bough @noble current you guys are awesome, thanks. i’ve always defaulted to 54mm Spitfire Formula Four’s for no reason. it’s time i put some thought into my wheel choice haha
Welcome to the rabbit hole haha!
Happy to help! I have so many boards now, because the roads and my riding can differ from day to day. Slippery slope! My go-to boards these days are my cruiser build with the Rough Rider wheels mentioned above, or my surfskate if I'm going longer distances or just want to carve. I have Formula Fours on my park board, though, and wouldn't trade them. So many options!
A never ending quiver!
Surfskates are soooo much fun. It gets addicting not having to push though. There was a time after I got my waterborne adapter that the surfskate was all I rode for a long time. When I grabbed my dinghy for a quick cruise I forgot how "straight" it could only go. I flung myself off trying to pump it hard. I was committed to the movement but the board was like "what you doing‽"
I can't even bring myself to put both my legs on the board. I've gotten pretty good at cruising on the carpet in the hallway of my apartment complex, but the floor is made out of carpet. When I tried doing the same thing on pavement it felt like suicide when I tried lifting up my foot, but I know I can do it. Any help on pushing myself to do it?
Other than the "just do it" advice, here's what I did for a friend who was uneasy and nervous to try. I took them to an empty tennis court where they could stand on the board and grab onto the chain link fence and pull themselves along it. When they felt comfortable they let go.
It gave them a chance to feel what it was like to move but had a safety net if they got off balance.
Alternatively you could stand on it and have a friend walk next to you pushing you along
It's a lot to coordinate moving to push and ride. It's something that takes time. You'll get it
Really appreciate it man, it feels like death is looming over me whenever I try lifting my foot up lmao, thanks!!!!!!
I own a pair they're pretty good only downsides are that they're pretty narrow and when walking they crease/bend in a way that hits your toes so I wouldn't recommend them for walking, it can be done and I have done it but I wouldn't recommend it
Dude, thank you so much haha
I appreciate the advice
No prob
should i get lakais or half cabs
i broke my hand after failing a 50/50 grind😊
ouch
WHAT
If you stop typing in all caps then we can see what you're trying to say
I think he said "what"
oh
i Talk in capitals mostly all the time 😥.. mb mb
But... why?
Any UK Skateboarders here?
yo doesn anyone else have a really hard time skating on sidewalk?
i live in toronto all all the sideward is old asf and has big cracks but idk ive seen many people skate just fine on it but i cant
o/ its either too hot or too cold man. or too wet out lol
overcast days are the best imo
skill issue
bro i got old ass sidewalk
Probably the wheels or the way you push. You have to hop up and take your weight off the board
yeah i just skate on the road if i really have to, but also bigger wheels help going over bigger cracks
I feel that man, it sucks, mad that we missed that heatwave 😂😂
Oh nah I felt it alright. I was sweating dude
It do be like that. My good days have to coincide with a Sunday too cause that's really the only day I can skate
Ah that's rough man - that's the whole reason I stopped ever working weekends, on the odd day that it is somewhat alright weather, I don't want to be couped up in a building somewhere 😂
Can anyone reccomend board brands?
Is Cal7 a legit company for really good skateboards?
Idk
deck really doesn’t matter that much, just find a simple board at your local to buy and research what trucks and wheels you’re gonna want
I dont have a local
My town is such an L
So is toymachine good?
The deck is like 40€
I was looking for cheap decks
Thats the cheapest i found
Nothing wrong with shopping online if you don't have a shop. Feel free to drop a link to what you're looking at if you want an opinion/look over from us before you buy it.
Toy Machine can be good. You looking at decks only or completes?
Decks
I want to build my board
So i dont get crappy stuff
I will send a photo of the deck i want in ur dms
There
I sent
I'd recommend a complete for your first board so you aren't regretting a high price tag in the beginning and then realizing that you want something else later
Oh
That looks like a nice deck for sure
I mean there's nothing wrong with building your first board
Ye
yeah i would agree.. don’t wanna be spending $100+ on your first board if you find out you don’t like it..
gotcha
Which wheels are you skating? Can always go down to the boardwalk or the bike trails along the river and stuff. 😀
I agree thats why i came here cuz u guys know whats gud
It's just you don't know what kind of things you'd like to change until you've been riding for a little while.
Decks are probably the easiest since they're gonna need to be replaced faster than anything else but trucks can be pricey and then your locked in to the deck size if you want to change later. Cheaper trucks then you'll know if you like wide decks or skinnier decks without breaking the bank too much.
Welcome to the rabbit hole lol
also, you wanna know what size board ur gonna be riding, i ride an 8.25, and it feels just a little big but i’ve gotten used to it
Ye
8/8.25 I think is a really good starter size for sure. Massive after coming from a 7.5/7.75 but definitely more stable for a beginner
Alright
Any wheels,trucks,bearings,grip reccomndation
Or should i pick my own
Imma look at some more stuff
Cya guys later
Back
Used to ride 8.25s for ages and one day I realised it was actually too big. Dropped to an 8 and everything was breezy... wish I had done so sooner haha
You also don't want to buy the cheapest board around, usually when you buy cheap crap it is cheap crap. And after struggling so long with your sticky bearings and upside down concave you'll sooner drop skating than progress.
trial and error ig lol
Gotta try things you like... I personally love Tensors Mag Lights... because they are a lot lighter than other tricks, and it allows me to get really good pop on my tricks.
Other trucks will be heavier.
Same with boards, other brands have different shapes, one may have more pop and concave than others
And size?
8 is about standard size, so it may be a good jumping off point... also depends how old you are. As 8 may not be the right choice for someone a lot younger/ smaller
You also need to make sure you get the right size trucks for the board size
What abt for a 14 yo
But every brand has a size guide, and for some reason they all use different sizings
What would u reccomend
Possibly a 7.75 in that case?
Thanks
Or a 7.825
Man this realy helped me
both fairly similar in size
Really*
And how does it say on the trucks like if the board is an 8 is the trucks option an8 too?
Size*
But with skateboarding it's a lot of trial and error, you won't find your perfect set up first try. If you got other friends who skate it's always worth trying to grab a go on their board from now and then to feel what they ride
how tall are you @iron ridge
the taller you are, the bigger board you should get is a pretty good rule
69.420 inches
Nah jk i jus put 420 as a joke
69.42 inches
5 foot 9
With trucks, it's different per brand. For example Tensor have 5.0 for boards between 7.5 and 7.75, 5.25 for boards between 7.875 and 8.125 and other sizes above and below
Ye
In that case... you may be good with an 8
Alr thanks
About the same size as me and I'm 28 haha
Nice
i wouldn’t recommend going with .125 or .1 because you will never find the graphic u want 🤣
Oh
Alr
if i were you i would go for an 8
That all depends on if you are set on graphics rather than the brands themselves
my local doesn’t even have decks for 8.1 lmao
Not sure many do haha
Graphics kinda matter to me cuz i dont wanna be lookin like a beer can or smth
Not many to 7.825 and that was a size I used to ride a lot
Enjoi was one of the main ones
For example
I found these venture trucks for 30 euro’s
Yall think its worth it?
I like them
Should i buy them
Almost got the set but
I need griptape and wheels any suggestions for cheap but good ones?
Ventures are fine, make sure they are the right size though
Mob is decent grip if you’re after standard black
How about blue tomato
Grip cause its a little bit cheaper
Btw heres the set i made
My friend has blue tomato and he said they are decent
Btw i didnt pick the deck in size yet
I will do that later cuz im lazy
This set was so hard
Without shipping its like 103 €
Never heard of blue tomato, possibly a cheap store brand? So I myself can’t recommend it
Blue tomato seems like a decent skate shop. Looks a little bit like Zumiez maybe? Not sure. But they've got shops around the UK. Found this on their site that looks nice
https://www.blue-tomato.com/en-GB/product/Powell+Peralta-Vallely+Elephant+Birch+8+0+Complete-610092/?colid=white&varid=304739770
A few other things there that seem like really good deals
Guys
Can yall reccomend hardware
Cause i forgot to add
Pivot Rebuild Kit Skateboard Hardware - Achsenzubehör Skateboards
Your trucks will already have bushings. All you need are the nuts and bolts. The size is dependent on your deck thickness, trucks, and if you are putting any spacers on the trucks or not
You'll also want some bearing spacers if the ones you are getting don't have them built in
Speed rings too
Also, if you've never gripped a deck before, be prepared for it to not look great for your first time cutting it.
Grip the deck before you screw everything together not after.
Yo how do I get my nollie treflips higher?
Thank u
i mean shoot man just practice
do not grip your own deck your first board.. 🤣 will look bad, get someone to do it, and then let that same person teach you (if they do it good)
But who will i ask to do it
Most online skate shops will offer it at checkout
Or if you get your board from a shop they you can also ask
Or if not it’s usually something you can write in the notes
god i hate this part of skate boarding youtube that pops up in my recommencded

1/3 times it's like angry people who for no reason just tell them no fun allowed 2/3 of the time they are guilty like "Leave you are trespassing on private property !" or "Watch where you are going this a busy place and you could be endangering people","you do not skate in the mall" and the guys in the vid are like WHY WAAA NO STOP BEING UNFAIRINO 😭
if u got a local skate spot or park or shop i bet damn near anybody there will do it for ya
I dont got local
If you were buying from BlueTomato, it might be worth using their live chat and just asking if they grip boards purchased online
Thanks
Also is anyone gonna reccomend hardware?
It's just nuts and bolts with a nylon lock on the nut. You need 8 of each. Literally any hardware will work. The only thing that matters is that it's long enough to go through everything.
This is another reason I recommend starting off with a complete. Because it's all set up for you, you'll learn where everything goes properly by taking it apart
Building your first without knowing anything is gonna be harder to know how everything fits together
Challange*
For the most part… bolts are bolts. But if you’re a beginner I’d recommend getting a set with one bolt a different colour to the rest
Might flip your bearings the wrong way, put your trucks in reverse, gash in your board doing grip ect
This allows you to know where the nose or tail is quickly
A complete is the way a lot of people go too… but it’s usually an okay deck, with sub par hardware
But it could be a good idea if you don’t know whether you will continue skating past a couple months
But yeah, if you know people that can help you, that’s also a good idea
Ye
Idk if they know to much
Cause i havent been with them skating
Only cruising
I like building stuff
Like the old tech decks
Like switching wheel colors
How long did u guys take to master ollies? Its been tough
I know wheels are based on preference but for a beginning do y’all recommend a wider lip or a thin lip on the wheel? I have the wheel size and hardness that I wasn’t I’m just not sure about the lip part of the wheel.
lol i’ve never even payed attention to that i just got my wheels haha
I don’t think it actually matters at all if you’re starting out… Infact for the most part it doesn’t matter even if you been skating for a decent amount of time. I’ve switched to different shapes and notice no difference at all
Only think that matters is the softness of wheels and the size
i agree but more advanced skaters might have a different feel for it, i did some research and only saw different shapes for longboards, and i don’t know what you ride, but if it’s not a longboard, don’t worry about it
I feel like I fall in the advanced category. But yes skateboard wheels have different shapes too. Like conical, radial and standard for example
I've only ever noticed a difference with the shape when it comes to longboard/cruiser wheels. Reg skate wheels tend to be small and hard enough that I never really noticed a difference
Thank y’all I was just curious if it made a difference
Some wheels may give you an extra few mm's on you hanger to grind... but it's nothing that actually makes any sort of difference
It's all just personal preference
The master of tinkering setups to perfection has a few vids on wheels if you really want to dive into the rabbit hole https://youtu.be/sbgGwTQHBtY?si=MmCr4kZZ9boGEJai
Does it make a difference? Which do you prefer? Leave a comment below to let us know!!!!
aye whats the best branf to skate mine is primitive yalls?
Don’t have one yet still learning the names of things and stuff
Talking to some homies hoping they'll teach me how to grip my skateboard. Also need trucks and wheels
the hardest part in gripping a board for me was lining it up in the middle haha
Just got an all blue skateboard 😁
guys i just ordered the set !!!!
Anyone got deck suggestions? Need something that's strong cause I skate alot of drops and I go through a deck a month
Have you looked into the Powell Flight decks? I haven't ridden one personally but they are supposed to be some strong decks
Day 2 legit learnt how to push twice and put my foot on the back. Also fell turning cuz I hit a deep crack
Got back up and started again now I’m vibing 😂
Yeah, it takes a while to get used to what your wheels can and cannot roll over. You've got this!
honestly gotta get use to pushing more than twice
hey guys im sort of new to tricks in skateboarding and I’ve been practicing an Ollie for like a month and I’m getting relatively close but I have a few problems
when I slam my back foot down the board sort of jitters which makes it really hard to roll my front foot up
do you guys know how to prevent that
and one more thing is your back foot supposed to touch the ground a bit or put all your pressure on the board? I haven’t gotten an answer anywhere
If your back foot touches the ground, you are basically grounding yourself. You aren't supposed to slam your back foot down. Without seeing a video of what you are doing it's hard to understand what is going on but the way you are describing it jittering is making me think you are going into basically a drop in position and then trying to immediately jump from there and that's not going to work.
You start your jump FIRST.
Just like if you jumped while standing without a board, you know how right before you leave the ground your toes are what propel you upward? THAT timing of the jump is when you push down on your tail to pop and start the sliding of your front foot upwards.
It's like a mixture of jumping and skipping where the power comes from one leg (back leg) and the other leg guides where the jump is going (the front leg)
hmm ok
thanks I’ll try that
DId you get a new deck yet? Ive been seeing a few peeps getting the popsickle flight deck. I got the Andy Anderson one 2 years ago and skated it pretty hard.
I haven't yet no. Been thinking of the flight decks recently just means I'll have to save up a little longer
Appreciate the help tho bro 🙏
yo what do you think about skateboard Foundation - Thrasher Blue is it solid and worth buying?
for begginer?
Just won some YUTO dunks let’s go
I’m jealous! Love those Dunks!
Lol
Finally hit my first ollie
alr I got wrist guards but I see online that there is a wrong way to fall and like break your arm but what’s the right way exactly? I can’t seem to find anything from anyone about it
No clue I fell and scraped by elbow but I think im vibing with no broken bones. Just bent my knees to where the fall isn’t like 30 ft down into the ground of eating dirt. Always going to get hurt just wearing protection might be the safest way in my opinion.
Or you could look up “the safest way to fall” on YouTube by braille skateboarding
o ok sick thanks
learn to fall like nakel smith and you’ll never get injured a day in your life
BRUH 😪😬🥲
Boing
ok sure I’ll try that
How do you get the back of your skateboard off the ground when trying to Ollie? I’ve tried but I ain’t going no where
try doing it with ur hands first and seeing how it would work to pop the board on the ground and even it out with your front foot
and then just watch a braille skate video they fix everything lol
its mainly in the drag aside from getting a good pop and jump
im legit jumping but im like both feet off the board jumping like am i suppose to jump up with just 1 foot like a hop?
i watched all brailles skate videos on how to ollie
pop then jump
don’t like actually jump
😅 thats what im doing is just actually jumping
you got any footage?
oh okay you got that no problem then
are you holding onto something or not it usually helps
I’m not holding nun
just learn them stationary on concrete and then switch to moving
^ this, but ofc rolling works the same just more effort
I was stationary
practice getting a straight pop like if you were to pop it to grab the board no swaying if you get me and then practice for a good minute the drag middle or near bolts wtv works
and there’s no amount of tips better than just practicing so get at it and get better
@rocky bloom maybe this can help a little?
I’ll try that tomorrow
I find this one to be a bit more helpful than braille's. Braille has a good video for sure, but this one I find helps you nail down the proper technique and jump timing much better https://youtu.be/anVS2g4xojs?si=G2q2CIqbshU7XINE
This is long awaited for finishing, and might be my last Skate vid for a long time

An in depth look at the ollie. 5 steps that can take you from no ollie to a solid one and an explanation of ollie timing. Each step exercises a foundational aspect of the ollie that you will later be ab...
Realized that I should be riding regular because I’m right foot dominated and can’t Ollie or nothing with my left foot 🤡 so now I’m trying to be comfy riding with my left foot in the front it just feels weird
Don't switch it up. Your ollie looks great for a begginer and its exactly as it should be at this stage. You are even going forward a little bit and that's a really good sign that you are close to nailing it. Switching it up now puts you right at the beginning. You have to keep doing it consistently or you won't ever actually progress. Stop over thinking it and ride.
yeah but in that video i was basically doing it "regular" thats why i said ima switch my stance because i can push down easily with my right foot shown in the video
like i skate goofy with my right foot in front but in that video my right foot is in the back
so id rather my right foot be in the back
Oh, my bad. I thought you meant you were going to switch it up from the video. Hard to tell because some vids are flipped
oh no lol
yeah, def looking strong there. But hey, you know you'll be able to ride in switch comfortably at least haha
yeah lol
i’m right foot dominated and goofy feels right for me lol
honestly until i started to ollie and felt the difference i was like no lol im switching
so you felt a big difference in your ollie’s on regular rather than on goofy?
interesting
i tore my ligament
F. Hope you recover soon!
my legs hurt sm from boarding for like 2-3 hours today
just got a new board from my local skateshop
Let’s go!
how the frick do i land my other foot while doing a kickflip? i get my back foot on it, this happened when i doing the ollie so will it just come naturally? 😭
Yeah I got closer to landing a kickflip yesterday than the day before yesterday and before that, was practicing nollies cause I got bored but I know I'm super duper close
I thought that I’m starting to land Ollie’s but I checked some videos and realized that I’m not :/
The main issue I have is not putting pressure on my front foot when I Ollie so I’m not really leveling it out. I keep doing rocket Ollie’s where my front foot doesn’t go down like at all and I really can’t do it.
Any tips?
Also I still can’t entirely get rolling my front foot up so if there’s tips for that as well that’d be nice
If you're doing a rocket Ollie there's a good chance your front foot is doing what it's supposed to for the most part, but you might not be bringing your back foot upward so you end up holding the tail end downward. Without seeing any footage of your Ollie it's hard to say though.
But a rocket Ollie is great progress in your Ollie fight!
at least your popping the board good
bring your back foot up and you might have it
Ok thanks guys
One more question I have is when rolling your front foot up is it only the front part of your foot (near the ball of your foot) is it just that part that’s supposed to grind against the grip or should I have my foot slanted more
its better to have more surface area in the drag of the ollie
^
you slant as soon as you pop its about timing and what feels good
Without seeing an example of what you are saying I really can't answer that. But honestly, I think you are overthinking this part.
Maybe this can help you? https://youtu.be/6k3TqEizoac?si=Bw3QDJB0tGO2g2Q3
Straight to the point tutorial on how to Ollie. This is one of the hardest tricks for a beginner to learn, in all of skateboarding. You all have been asking for this tutorial, so I hope this helps with some of the struggles you are having! Everything you need to know to improve your ollies or learn them, explained in under a minute.
#shorts #sk...
Aight I’ll give it a try
I’ll get a video too
how should I keep my board steady while in the air bc a lot of the time my board either flips over or my front foot lands on the nose
hi im new to skating but have been playing og skate for years and now getting into it i can revert really well after just a couple of days but my ollies are just trash. any tips?
well id say scroll up there is a nice convo about someone with same ollie issues or issues in general and also a video on how to but yk videos help as well. If its something specific you know then drop it
drop it = lmk btw not trynna say stop
ok thank you 🙏
did you figure it out?
nope
bc i fell hard yesterday night on my board and haven't skated today
ahh got it got it, hope you recover soon
i sprained my wrist from dropping in the other day. it hurts so bad lmao. still got up and landed it though 💪
I used to trip on exposed tree roots and roll/sprain my ankle on them
Now my left ankle creaks whenever I move
Is there such thing as an Ollie late nollie heelflip?
I think that would be a late backfoot heelflip unless it involves the powers of double jumping
Nah, thats a better way of wording it
I'm still getting my terminology down
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJGj7nrQA9A just found this which is insane
What brand would yall recommend for a 8.5 deck?
Was thinking of getting the lithe slate 3 but dont know about dropping $209usd
There's a pretty big sale on the element website right now
It seems like there are all types of sizes of decks there
not a huge variety of decals
I heard element board are pretty bad
huh
They are all i use so i dont have a comparison but someone told me they are bad
Said they dont have a good pop and doesn’t have enough curves
Good to know
I dropped my board in a pool of water so I'm looking for a new deck for when mine starts falling apart
Yeah… ive been riding for a few month but because its my only transportation I sometimes get it wet lol
That was me and my first board. I feel like if you do that its gonna fall apart no matter what
Mine got super waterlogged from skating in the rain. Then as I was practicing ollies both of the noses cracked off.
I just avoid skating in the rain now
The lithe slate 3 is a carbon fibre board with a coating on the outside and it doesn’t loose its pop from what I’ve heard
Now ive been skating for 2 and a bit years so I’ll probably drop abunch of money on a good board
Currently ride a element complete with titanium bearings a ricta cloud 78a wheels
cool
