I remembered there being almost no speedrunning community for Skate 3 so I decided to check the leaderboard and saw some familiar names

Matt still holds second place for any%, that was a person who was talking to me about speedrunning that game a few years ago, inhalethistruth is on the leaderboard as well

4 years ago the only person who I knew about who was interested in speedrunning it was matt

I didn't have a lot of involvement in the speedrun community because the glitches I tended to find were not very useful for speedrunning

#

in most other games the ability to superjump / fly would be incredibly useful for speedruns but skate 3 is not that type of game

#

skate 3 speedrunning tech is stuff like how checkpoints in deathraces don't work properly, stuff like that which isn't that great for making funny glitch videos

#

I also was not that interested in speed glitches, to this day those are the most commonly used glitches I'm bad at

I've practiced the cannonball / backwards man but they are too hard lol

never set aside the hours of practice I needed to get those consistent

it's too bad because cannonball speed glitch into rb launch glitch is really useful in some situations (it's a good way to get to the out of bounds basketball court in the art gallery DLC for instance) but I never got good enough to do them

I got to that basketball court using the space elevator glitch I discovered myself, I thought I was the first person to get there but after seeing that a speed glitch into rb launch glitch worked I figured someone else must have gotten there first using that

that said I never did find any proof of that so it's still possible I was first

It looks like this person got there and got rid of the black screen with mods but as far as I was able to tell, in the vanilla game the screen always goes black when you go that far out, and unlike the basketball court in Art Gallery, the visuals never come back (I have tried many times to go out to those ships via both billboard surfing and launch glitches, and I have never gotten the screen to reappear)

the amount of distance from the basketball court where the screen reappears is really really big, and the ships are really big themselves, so the fact that I've launched myself in that direction dozens of times and the screen never reappeared indicates that the ships do not follow that rule

also there are multiple ships so that indicates that even more

I also billboard surfed in the direction of those ships for 20-30 minutes several times and that didn't make the screen reappear either

those ships were my white whale lol, there has not been a single piece of even theoretically solid ground that I have not gotten to aside from those ships

you need to push yourself into a nearby set of cargo containers using the red barrier glitch, use the object dropper -> load session marker glitch to spawn an upside down ramp in there, push it up against a specific wall, add it to your session marker, and then use make upright on it while standing on it

I know that someone stumbled upon the "merge parks into a normal map" glitch in the first year or two of play and repro steps weren't found for like 7+ years

maxed out the in game hour tracker at around 400+ hours, then I lost my save file and I maxed it out again

the progression of discovery from 2011 to around 2015 was an absolute blast

I went from doing some weird things with the skaters legs / making them "explode" to finding multiple ways to outright fly or launch yourself to amazing heights

even after that I still found some useful stuff despite playing it a lot less

milkybarkidd found a lot of stuff after my retirement, definitely look into him

never quite got as many subscribers as me but he found a LOT of stuff, some of it pretty major

he was I think the one who finally found the park merge glitch (merge a park into an actual map) which someone accidentally did WAY back in the day and no one was able to reproduce it

his channel description says he found around 50 glitches, a few years ago when I rewatched all my videos and tallied up which glitches I actually discovered my number was not that much higher than 50
