I’ve been pretty adamant I don’t care about the paywall. I don’t even care they “lied” and changed their plan. I would have bought the pass either way. If I need to buy the pass to skate a new area in a game that brings me entertainment, I can justify that.

You'd have to be nuts to think on a free-to-play game they're not going to want to monetize it someway. But they need to do it in a way that doesn't feel punishing and feel supplementary. I've played fortnite for years. They'll be some years where I haven't dropped a dime and others where I've spent a lot. My experience remains identical and it feels like there's always something new to do.

Unfortunately for them, free-to-play requires constant updates to content. Doing that and a skateboarding game means new areas to skate. Quickest way to make dough is to monetize that. They were really goofy not to see that was the way instead of charging for a cosmetics.

Unfortunately that was never in the cards.
They are happy to try for a successful free to play games. 9 out of 10 will fail. But the one success will bring the more profit then a successful standalone game and also pay for the nine other failures. This was the only way we're going to get a skate game. It doesn't mean that it couldn't be substantially better than what we have now.
Just adding in authenticity, a less childish tone, a real narrative structure, tuning on the boards like truck tightness... There's a lot of simple things that have been overlooked or deemed not important.

This is the issue I have with the game in general. There's 150 of us playing in a server but no reason for us to exist in the same space. A signature multiplayer mode wasn't designed. We just exist and we're supposed to figure it out for ourselves. Point us in the right direction!

I'm part of the "just Skate" crowd. I haven't done a challenge since September. Why bother? The cosmetics aren't there yet.
But there has to be S O M E T H I N G to keep us going. Even if you just chose a neighborhood to represent and there was some sort of percentage showing which neighborhood was doing the most challenges and missions, just to have some sort of rivalry system or something. Pop-up events for these rivalries would be awesome.
There just needs to be some sort of narrative hook to inspire people to play and to do these things that they're throwing in front of us.

I jumped into one of Milky's servers and it's evident that people WANT to have fun with this game. But after everyone's emoting and just rolling all over the floor, there's no organized activity. heres my idea: what if they did a mode thats sort like those "fashion show" games on roblox etc. you pick a spot. you have like 10+ people that take turns hitting a single trick on the step gap. you have a short time limit to do it.
then everyone votes at end for the best. it would be sort of slow watching everyone do their tricks, but cool if you backflip are just chillin.
this would naturally make people win who do more realistic tricks too. noone would probably for some stupid backflip to grind

Because the original fanbase was puny compared to this series’ renaissance. Which, like it or not, came from the YouTuber/Twitch streamers this community loves to blame for the game having wacky unrealistic stunts and spots. Even though they’ve been in this series for a very long time.

It’s not reasonable to only target your existing fanbase. You need to also bring new people into the series in order to be sustainable. Appealing to both sides of the fence is always the goal, no matter the game in question. If you only target people who already are fans, like I said before, eventually burnout will take even the most loyal out of the question entirely. Plus there’s hundreds of thousands of other games out there and expecting even your dedicated fans to do nothing but play yours isn’t reasonable for almost any dev or publisher. We’re not CoD, there’s no cult here to keep the numbers up forever.

It's absolutely false that the game was not big before Skate 3 got huge with YouTubers. Skate 1 sold 2 million copies or something crazy like that. Skate 3 sold like 2.5 million. The other half million you could probably attribute to the YouTube viral stuff but to say the original fan base is puny is not accurate.

Skate 3 was considered a failure for years after its release. It didn’t get big until 2014, which again was because of YouTubers bringing it into the spotlight.

Skate is(/was I guess) a cult classic series. It didn’t not do well at release at all.

It was only because of YouTubers/streamers playing the game to showcase it being buggy (plus it just being popular at the time) that EA re-released a more stable version of the game. Same reason they re-opened the servers in 2019.

I know you can buy a 24 hour 'pass' for the Isle with chips... and I know if you have the season pass you get access "early".... but if you buy the season pass do you get unlimited access? You can actually lower the distance between frames to 0 for even more sudden camera changes. Also placing identical keyframes very close together in the right places can neutralize the sway of the interpolation between them

My problem with it is how insignificant the storage space would be to allow for a more competitive amount of slots and the reason for limiting it so much.

I'm also concerned that the future monetization of that feature could incentivize keeping parts of the game worse than they ought to be - e.g., an emote wheel in which I can access all of my emotes or perhaps multiple pages of favorites would reduce my incentive for buying outfit slots if those slots include a 4-emote loadout, and this fact reduces their incentive to give me a better wheel. There could be more short-term money in continuing to offer subpar emote access.
