In those days, I was on a lot of titles at once - Madden, Sims, College Football (when it was NCAA Football), NFS, BF, Origin/EA App, Pogo (lol), FIFA, ton of partner titles.

I helped lead EA Help social channels for a couple years, authored FAQs, was SME for multiple titles (Subject Matter Expert - because I play a lot of a lot of games). It’s been an interesting career, for sure.

For BF, I hosted /co-hosted the livestreams from 2016-2020.

Wanna get into that for skate. to showcase what’s new, what’s being worked on, etc.

Each had its own challenges and whatnot, but I enjoyed working on all the games I could. Battlefield, NFS, and the Skate franchise would be my favorites, followed by BioWare, Dead Space 2 and 3, and sports titles.

tricks just dont feel difficult to do or rewarding to land, I've set all settings to minimum assistance and it just feel mind numbing to play. I will admit there are a few 'pro' challenges that were hair pulling to complete but session just feels more gratifying to land/pull stuff off

I get that.. to an extent. Session was so promising but the physics never reached its full potential and they ruined it last I heard. As for the challenges they’re pretty repetitive and the game completely lacks a storyline which is driving me nuts lol

I do think the idea of always being in a world with 30 other players is great though. They need to have some type of "tournament" every hour or so that really fits players against each other I think its really missing that element. I know you can set a throw down marker but the area is way too small and theres no incentive to join one or win

there's a lot of missed opportunity with the comm parks.. like one could be a rotation of street parks you'd find irl, another could be setup as competition park like SLS/PSL to use with some sort of comp system and the other a vert park

yea i have 122 hours on session and 16 on the new skate. I like how in session when you do nollie etc you switch the positions of your thumb and if you roll down backwards into switch you have to switch them again, it gets pretty hard on certain challenges in the game but almost nothing you do is "by accident" whereas skate i feel like i can just fling myself doing a laser flip at any handrail and know ill be fine

We just really need a storyline. I want sponsors, competitions, becoming pro. Keep the challenges, by all means, but right now they’re just a way to gather merchandise like this is the Sims. Session was raw, pure skating with no distractions. But Skate right now has catered heavily to the arcade style and they need to balance it going forward and I really hope they listen to the feedback

on a side note the hardest challenge in this game for me so far was having to Ollie over a handrail and nose grind on a dumpster rail, then you had to noseslide and kick flip out on a ledge lol. it took me like an hour to do idk why anyone done that one?

OH hahah yeah. The current one is an actual joke. I used to skate custom parks on skate 3 that look as realistic as any part of this map. Those comm park designs don’t matter, nobody’s looking at them because they’re too challenged focused. actual skateboarding is not at the forefront anymore🤑

and what I don’t get is.. so many huge names in the skate 3 community at the time (🙂 lol)were sought out to volunteer and help with the game. I must’ve wrongly assumed that their ideas/experience/community insight would be valued and listened to considering the organic success that came from creating a new and massive, engaged community 10+ years on

With throwdowns, I felt incentive to join one to get the trophy on my PS4, but after I got that, I just didn't feel the need to join anymore of them. Almost nobody plays that mode anyways, cause it's too stale and boring. They need to spice it up a bit and make it more intresting for players otherwise nobody is ever gonna wanna play, besides to get the trophy for PS4/PS5 platforms.

I agree, I do like the colors on them now and are glad they are ment to look more like a real skatepark. HOWEVER, now they should try making the parks look more like real ones, even if it is to rotate everyday. Cause the rate things are right now, they look like mush. Half of the time you can barely even skate on them, and that isnt right.

Worst part is: it wouldn’t even take that much to turn it into a bit of a story.

You’re a new kid in town, every neighborhood has a crew and you can go around and try to earn their respect. Not long into your journey, turns out everybody is great and you’re a good skater. Now the crews want you to come skate some spots. You earn “fame” or “respect” instead of “ripscore”. Couple of nice characters, some simple cutscenes. Done.

I miss the old skate games and how we could get hurt, impervatek is just dumb and weird and ruins the game for me, as fun as it still is to skate around the map. The skate groups are cool, but since there is no story to them it feels stale and flat.

Old games had a story, npcs that dress appropriately to their location and react to you, pro skaters, cuts and bruises, hall of meat, grittier aesthetic, more cultural references, and so much more. They sold the world so much better

For what it's worth, my two cents is that this was never meant to be a skate 3 sequel, it's entirely meant to just be a multi-player skate spinoff. Probably isnt getting a single player or proper story mode outside the mission format the game has. This is its own beast, with the ups and downs of such a thing

The world is gonna feel more bland than the games that were literally built with a story in mind like the first three. Expecting that level of worldbuilding is gonna just constantly disappoint. That's why this title isn't labeled with a 4. Sure, I wish there was more life in the world, lore, etc, but it's never gonna get to that level no matter what. And I'm honestly kind of ok with that. I'll come to terms.

I personally don’t care about the not getting hurt thing. I think it’s kind of a clever way to make it in-universe reasonable why we can bail crazy tricks and still go on. And I didn’t ever care a bit for Hall of meat. I also dislike the stunt challenges we have now. But that’s personal. Sure it would be nice if we fell a bit more realistic but that’s hard and was never perfect tbh.

But I don’t think this online multiplayer necessarily rules out a nice story mode or better world building. Plenty of games managed to combine those things.

I know it was never ment to be a sequel, but I still think things could be better. They could add a story, and that for sure would attract more players, make some things cheaper in the pass, have harder challenges, and more. However, I doubt it's gonna happen. This is ment to be a fun, yet simple game to play with friends online. It's not ment to be this huge story, and hard as hell game to play, and tbh, as disapointing as that is, it is how it is. I still like aspects of the game and will play it, but I do wish there was more to it.

There is stuff in this game that is good (for examples, the tricks added that aren't in previous games, the soundtrack, the events, etc) but there is also a lot that needs to be improved on and added to, that I agree they should focus on first. There is also things they are doing that I think should be reversed such as the auto spending of tix after a season ends, and the having to pay to have four or more outfit loadouts.

I mean, let's assume 90 days of the season, 60 where a free player could spend on Grom... Next season alone, player could spend 30,000 Rip Chips just visiting Grom daily. That will slow down the loot box grind substantially for new people. Over 60 days visiting Grom, a new free player will be 100+ boxes behind a new pass player.

Then the voices started rising from the community that the rip chips situation is getting out of hand. People had all their boxes unlocked and 200k+ rip chips. Now people will have to pay some rip chips for a ferry to a probably-not-as-cool-as-you-think isle of grom. The community is once again angry.

I agree the animator did a great job on the tricks but the paid emotes they made are a different story, and after the first few months of development I think silly emotes was pretty much all they worked on

Tbh - sadly stories like this are common in the gaming industry anywhere really. To think growing up being a game dev and working with the big bois was always a pipe dream fantasy of mine but I’d hate to be any of these guys with a very advanced and particular skills only to ultimately be working basically contract to contract because even entire dev companies get tossed around, bought out and swallowed whole often
