There's some similarities but I'd say Ninja Gaiden stands more on it's own for like how in depth the mechanics are in every aspect wether it's level design, movement, combos etc. DMC games look like baby games in comparison to Ninja Gaiden tbh.

If you do wanna get into them though with the release of NG2: Black all of them are remastered and accessible to play now and a lot more refined than their originals if you just play NG 1 & 2 Black and NG 3 razors edge (never 3 vanilla). 2 was the only one that stood out for a while having no definitive edition other than Sigma which was a westernized censored version with no blood and other changes. The creator has gone to state that Sigma took like all the soul out of his game

social media and the aggressive emphasis on replacing humans from Bay Area techies has a lot to with it i think. it's also a very sudden shift that took place around COVID, folks are inside and they get to obsorb whatever it was they were already consuming at an unhealthy rate which naturally removed them from whatever real world qualities they were accustomed to. creativity/intelligence being a key one.

nerds have always had a stigmatized aura of being the corner kid, virgin, or lame person that can't hang with the big kids. that part hasn't changed. what has is the amount of people now that are comfortable assuming that role (perhaps they just came into their own without fear), and now that essentially all these discussions are internet bound, these are things people who are mostly outside haven't considered because their realities haven't changed much outside of egg prices.

I've put thousands of hours into Nioh 1 & 2 and pretty much any clone of those Koei has made like Wo Long and Rise of Ronin. And yeah practically grew up with Ninja Gaiden games.

And I just don't like Rockstar anymore, especially with their practices lately. They used to be a very influential and innovative company that liked to push the line and limits but since GTA V came out I feel like they've been a mass contributor to the state of Western game slop because it's their games that push the trend of "having the most bestest graphics and realistic realism" when that's really all they are, and on the simulator/sandbox/gameplay side of things they haven't really changed much since GTA IV aside from just adding more redundant visual detail.

IT IS. and that's what we've come to accept, they have stripped of it anything that would make it an equal to it's predecessors tonally, slapped bundles in the shop and a gameplay loop akin to Zynga mobile titles and called it "early access" so instead of uproar folks went "oh! wait guys the game isn't done! halt all the feedback and stop complaining or just play something else!"

I dunno that game does have a lot of detail in its input and animation design that most games still don't... Custom walking animations... Emotes with flourish mechanics... Emotes that change with your intoxication state... A variety of ways to interact with people and animals... A variety of combat contexts that enable new inputs most people never even find... counter attack animations for different animals and weapons... Etc. Singleplayer especially goes hard. It's a shame they intentionally made multiplayer worse to pressure gold purchases.

i half agree with you, the prospect of what COULD be with a properly fleshed out RDO/GTAO is really exciting for me to think about but of course in interest of maxing out profits for TTwo, they centralize the experience around grindy mission loops, businesses, bloated economy, etc. GTAO is a proper sandbox whereas with RDO it's just a Rockstar developed concept of what people are currently enjoying the most in the capabilities FiveM provides. i think the game design aspect and visuals are two totally different things though

from IV > V > RDR2 i just can't really agree. V and IV play like GTA games ||whereas RDR2 is a pseudo RPG with the progressive elements in cores, crafting, horse care, gun maintenance, moral compass, etc etc. just a totally different experience than that of the GTA series|| ofc since the games aren't that mechanically in depth or focused around fighting bosses or raiding areas that encourages build types or weapon classes the stories may not be nearly as interesting as some other genres. i just think they struck gold in terms of creating compelling narratives that ALSO just let you d1ck around in a giant open world.

however i can totally see why someone wouldn't be moved by their titles, i just really enjoy their work.

glad we could agree on the writing aspect at least. another important bit is that R* is originally an English studio. they're more recently Western after the many internal changes over the past decade but Rockstar North is based in Edinburgh.

I mean it's not as deeply mechanical as some games, surely, but the social gameplay loops do have more mechanical depth than most loops in similar games. You can tie your friend in a lasso and drag them around on a horse, apologize after starting trouble with people, bribe or intimidate witnesses to crimes, etc... Perhaps you would argue RDR2 has mechanical breadth instead of depth, but it certainly has a wide variety of mechanical interactions for many situations and even many subcontexts of those situations. I would definitely say it has more variety in its input-based interactions with the world, which I'd call mechanical depth, than 95% of games. What open world games have notably more depth than RDR2?

I can of course sympathize with the gameplay loop not being what a person is looking for. Still, it really does nail a lot of things about the loop its players are looking for.

I won't defend GTAO or RDO though. They really dropped the ball on those in too many ways.

Grand Theft Auto:
Drive to point A, do thing at point B, Drive back to point A

Spider-Man:
Swing to point A, do thing at point B, swing back to point A or swing to point C to start another cycle

Skate: Skate to point A, do tricks at B

Sonic: Run to point A at breakneck pace

Metal Gear: Sneak to point A, do thing while sneaking at point B, occasional boss fight at point C

I could go on. Every game has a repetitive gameplay loop at its core. It's how the developers let you approach the gameplay loop and what you can do outside of it that sets games apart from others (outside of IP, art style, etc)

I used to spawn the Comet, Turismo and Annihilator chopper all the time to get across the map quicker. But yeah, Ballad of Gay Tony and Lost and D#mned are fun expansions. Both have their own unique vibe.

Only pursue the platinum if you feel it worth your time. I stopped trophy/achievement hunting many years ago. I only do it if the game means that much to me or I'm pretty much already there anyway. (I need to stalk like 30+ more people to platinum skate so I'm going for it lol)

I have that off as well. I basically play with all "assists" off. Grind I have at 5, only because 0 feels like it's bugged somewhat. I only turn on the Bump assist thing, to roll over and not get accidental air.

fixing bugs using Triage does not mean they do not listen. They just focus on what they can fix that has the most impact for x amount of users without loosing players and keeping $ flowing.

Yes. Tjere is a workaround though. Make sure you both do some trick in the area/spot before anyone completes any other goal. So even a manual is fine. Both do that and then d-pad up. Basically that goal should be completed before any other.

It sucks, I hope it’ll be fixed in the update.

That’s what I’ve been thinking as far as I’m concerned that’s when we’ll finally have the tricks in the game that should’ve been there (impossible, hand plants, darkslides) and also when we get things like tattoos and custom parks.

Custom parks imo will be the thing that saves this game there’s always something for everyone with custom parks and because there is always something new to skate or make it’ll keep people interested far more than the actual map itself

This is a video game after all and that part seems to be the most lacking (technical issues and bugs aside). OK. yes I think it's crazy but only if these are issues that can be fixed on their end. If it requires a client update (so your installed game needs to download an update), then I understand it better. Because pushing updates to consoles is not as easy and they kinda have to update everybody at the same time. So they're bound to a schedule in terms of releasing these kinds of updates.

Now I sure hope they fixed a lot of issues in the meantime...otherwise I don't know what they've been doing 😄

About the communication i totally agree. Altough as I said earlier today, i feel like they're slowly improving and it's been a little bit better over the last week. Still far from good enough, but baby steps.

I think it’s skates problem, you can air over but you have to NOT grab and then push forward grab after it’s weird.

The second u use left toggle with any grab inputs it body flips instead of airing, this is why I said they needed to lock body flips behind L1 or something

Just keep playing missions, challenges and tasks. It will eventually give you more challenges in other neighbourhoods and a couple more missions. Apart from brickswitch, that's still empty for all of us.

O, and also just open boxes with ripchips, that will level up your neighbourhoods faster.

nah L2 is grab + left stick makes u flip, problem is left stick is your directional so for me at least im sometimes quite aggressive with L3, and the minute you want to grab and use directional L3 it tends to flip without much threshold.

It works sometimes but what they really need to do is lock flip behind another bumper for eg, L2 or R2 + R1 and then use left stick

• r1 isn’t even a binding when on board so even if they added the option to do that would b nice

@jolly lynx the O.R.B. should be in Market Mile(?), it's one of the big coloured ramps. You can see it if you zoom in to the map (not too much tho)

There’s daily challenges that reset every day, and then there’s other challenges that you get from leveling up areas, those don’t reset. But if you’ve done all, all you can do is wait for the dailies to reset (make sure to collect tasks for rip chips too)

Have a question for anyone out there, so since the game came out i've been stuck on the "Finer grind" mission and haven't been able to progress at all, has anyone had this problem or been able to fix it?

The daily tasks can be finished in like 5 mins. That’s not nearly enough. The weekly tasks a good 20-30 mins depending on the task lol and all the daily challenges take about an hour. We need something other than free skate. Skating in circles around this tiny map gets boring after 10 mins lol

No fix that I know of, but there’s a couple posts on #bugs-and-tech-issues forums so I’m sure the devs are aware of this issue. Hopefully it gets fixed soon. There’s a update dropping in about 30 mins for bug fixes so you could check after and see if anything changes
