Just dont go to the coping on an angle. You can use any direction and then y/triangle to hit a lip. If you hit it at an angle it'll just put you into a grind

Each face button is dedicated to a certain action. I don’t know the layout on Xbox and pc but on PlayStation X is dedicated to Ollie’s and wall plants, Square is dedicated to flip tricks, Triangle is dedicated grinds, wall rides and lip tricks, and circle is dedicated to grabs. The direction of the left analogue stick determines which specific trick you’ll do in each category.
