having worked in the industry for 14 years, through dozens of launches, the reason it feels longer than it actually is specifically due to the fact we announced the game early - as development was starting.

most games announce when they're past multiple internal development gates, ready for Alpha (not pre-pre-pre-pre-Alpha). part of the development of skate. was to share the development journey with the community, from early builds to alpha, to expanding platforms for testing, to Early Access next year.

now, had this been a regularly developed game, you wouldn't have known about it until last year, maybe 2022 (but probably 2023, tbh).

Many/most EA titles are build on Frostbite. (proprietary, doesn't cost extra fees to use a 3rd party - I'm just guessing)

hello im gonna start skating im 5'9 and idk if the shoe size matters but i wear 9s to 9 1/2s and idk if i should get a 8.0 8.05 8.25

board size doesn't really matter by shoe size, it affects how the board feels and flips. a wider board will have more room for your feet but flip slower and as you go smaller you get faster flips but obviously less room for error with the feet.

i know this isn't what you wanna hear but you just gotta feel out what is right for you

you have to sign up to show interest in playtesting skate. - that's the first step.
step 2: keep checking your emails.
step 3: do ANY and all surveys sent by the Playtesting team/skate. Insider team. (surveys determine the type of player you are, what platform you're on, etc. - as some mentioned above, during some playtests, we're looking for focused feedback, so (for example purposes only), you're NOT a builder but the studio wants to test the buildkit stuff, you probably won't be selected. it's not a free-for-all and it's not personal. the purpose of playtests are NOT trials for gamers. they're to test the build for the devs to make improvements.
step 4: if you get an invite to register (yep, that's a step too), click the Register. 'but I already registered!' you registered to be invited as a potential tester. this is a registration for a specific test. if you don't do it, you won't get invited.
step 5: get that "You're In"/"Playtest starts X date" with system specs, details, and info on where to post feedback/bugs/issues (it's not here on Discord).
step 6: play
step 7: give feedback. good feedback. (note: good feedback doesn't mean "I love everything!". good feedback is "this (feature) did (bug). felt (feeling). thought it would (expectation). " etc. bad feedback doesn't provide context, doesn't help the devs understand what happened, and doesn't help make the game better. and yes, there is such a thing as bad feedback. good CONSTRUCTIVE feedback helps. bad, generalized feedback does not.)
step 8: keep playing and giving more feedback/sharing bugs/issues. (and don't expect that the bug you reported yesterday will magically get patched today. but KNOW they are reading everything, I'm reading everything, QV/QA and our data teams are reading everything. things have a priority scale on the critical impact on the build. for example, crashing issues have a higher priority than "I want x brand in the game". )

we also know who plays (game sessions) the playtests the most, who gives the most feedback, who gives the most actionable/constructive feedback, who reports the most bugs. so, if you DO happen to get invited and you play 5 minutes then blow up the forums with non-specific negativity, that's taking up a spot in the playtest of someone who will be actively testing things out, finding bugs, giving constructive feedback. so you may not stick around or you may not be invited back.

again, and I have to stress this - good constructive feedback doesn't mean you agree with everything and it's all rainbows and fluffy puppies. good constructive feedback shares the issue, the expectation as a gamer, etc.
non-constructive overly negative feedback doesn't make the game better. (it's not ignored, but if there's nothing to action, it's a waste of time, yeah?)

Most playtests I've been a part of (not ea) have slightly transparent numbers all over the screen that are easy to ignore when you're playing but can be used to identify people, everyone gets their own string of numbers/letters
I've also seen ones that teleport around the screen

I do play session but I really like how skate looks, I think it looks a lot more flowy than session and XL. If they added the controls and stats, I think it would make Skate the best game out of all of them. I'm not saying that they get rid of skate controls, just suggesting that they could throw in the option to use controls similar to XL/Session, plus a stats menu.

No names - especially of someone you’re dating.
For your first, keep it smallish. You’ll understand the pain and the maintenance/healing better (with less chance of it going bad)
A lot of artists won’t do back of hands unless you’re sleeved up. Mainly because - despite tattoos not impacting your ability to do work, some places still consider hand tats taboo.
Don’t buy “tattoo cream” at the store. Ask the artist what they recommend (I use Mad Rabbit products. Even my tats that are 10+ years old look great and haven’t faded much because I don’t let my skin get dried out.)
Do not expose the tattoo to sun for a week. (Sunburn and fresh tat sucks, and if you’re a peeler, you’ll ruin the tattoo.)
Of course, no swimming pools/chlorinated water for like a month. Ocean water, wait 2 weeks at least - past it being “healed”.)

But, in the end, it’s YOUR body and your body art. Have fun.
Also, tip your artist well, build a relationship with them.

step 5: get that "You're In"/"Playtest starts X date" with system specs, details, and info on where to post feedback/bugs/issues (it's not here on Discord).
step 6: play
step 7: give feedback. good feedback. (note: good feedback doesn't mean "I love everything!". good feedback is "this (feature) did (bug). felt (feeling). thought it would (expectation). " etc. bad feedback doesn't provide context, doesn't help the devs understand what happened, and doesn't help make the game better. and yes, there is such a thing as bad feedback. good CONSTRUCTIVE feedback helps. bad, generalized feedback does not.)
step 8: keep playing and giving more feedback/sharing bugs/issues. (and don't expect that the bug you reported yesterday will magically get patched today. but KNOW they are reading everything, I'm reading everything, QV/QA and our data teams are reading everything. things have a priority scale on the critical impact on the build. for example, crashing issues have a higher priority than "I want x brand in the game". )"
