It's a server. It's the operating system that runs a server. Yes windows 2000 server is probably before your time but servers themselves aren't as they are up and running today and power all of the things we do and enjoy online.
I'm making a joke that I have access to a server operating system that I can install on one of my computers (which I do). The joke is that I can setup the skate database on it. But there is no way all the stuff for skate can run on an old outdated operating system like that. It probably won't even support the infrastructure that skate was built on because I doubt it was built on a Windows based system to begin with. Let alone one that old.

Servers are just computers. Computers configured differently than personal ones but not so incredibly different. They have more tools and options and typically have a different kind of CPU than the public uses for the number of calculations it has to do and in a different way than we typically might use them, but it's all the same.

Believe it or not you can even set up your basic PC to act as a server depending on your needs but it would be simplified in comparison to what a full fledged dedicated server will do.

So when I say I have a Windows Server 2000 disc, it means I have the operating system Windows Server 2000, on an install disc that I can use to install that operating system onto my computer overwriting my current Windows 11 or even on a second partition splitting my hard drive in half allowing me to pick which OS I want to run.

On that note, when I made the joke about running it on a virtual server, that's actually a thing. Not just some impossible imagination joke. It definitely wouldn't be powerful enough to run a full backend for everything skate. would need. It's a fully functional Server environment but instead of using hardware to run, you allocate a bit of space and it runs in a software based environment. You can do basically all that you could do on a real server.
