Enjoy the mod 👍
last question what is the out file supposed to be? is it the same as my bin path? @brave steppe
If you’re referring to importing it’s whatever you want the new file with the imported sprites to be. So if you want to overwrite the old bin you’d just use the same path/file name
👍 thanks
Can we add more stages to quest mode?
Not with this mod but my upcoming one will allow that
Cool
Is there like a data base where you can find customer sprites. Ex close up and custom icons??
Those are cut ins, for custom icons i am not sure where u can try searching the projects section
Cool thanks a mil
For the missing ones search digimon pixel portrait collection in the digimon projects tab
https://discord.com/channels/761581682686951455/1357322502010966116 look at this channel
What about a feature to see our digimon in cold mode?
@brave steppe sorry to @ you. was wondering if the DMC line mod had a thread in the projects section here or if there was one elsewhere, would love to check it out if released or follow the progress.
@drifting ravine has leveled up! (1 ➜ 2)
Nothing currently exists like that, I’ve just been using this thread for the occasional update. But when I’m closer to release I plan to make its own project thread. I’ll post the link to it here when I’ve reached that point
No worries. Best of luck
Can I now mod penC7 here? https://dmc-mod-app.pages.dev/
An application to modify your digimon color
Can’t , use this
Hey everyone I want to change sprites on my PenC but I am new to the whole thing
I see the guide above my comment regarding the Penc7
Is that something I can use and is beginner freindly so i can change my sprites ?
Yes
Ok thank you
The PenC plus do I need any tools for that all is that all file based?
In the first post there are a couple of guides that should cover all your questions.
Remember penc+ doesn't support version 6 and 7 currently
Thanks I have, Nso so I should be ok right

Thank you

So if I want the stuff in PenC+ but not to actually mod it I don't need the modding guide right and it's just file based? I just want to make sure I'm doing it correctly
There is a paragraph in the modification guide that mentions how you want to replace sprite, so you still need to read the guide.
and penc6,penc7,There is no need to play the current mod.
The author mentioned that penc plus is not supported at present.
If I don't want to add sprites just add stuff like Digimon's name and stage shown in the stats screen
Digimon power level displayed in stats menu
Evolution timer bar added to stats menu
Which version is Nightmare Sol?
Ok thanks
Sorry if you get this a lot, I'm still figuring things out here..
I saw in the FAQ that you can replace sprites of a different size. Does that mean VB sprites can work, or do they still need some kind of alteration?
You can use different sized sprites but it doesn’t change how they’re placed. It may look strange when using sprites larger than the game intended.
Kuro I'm sorry that this is a general modding question but is it possible to add more variables to the base system In the bin files
I see..
May I ask if you know how to alter VB sprites to work on the PenC?
I was advised to be wary about the sprites being appropriately formatted, but I was unclear on what I was actually meant to do about it
Currently, what I've been guessing is having to resize them to a compatible aspect ratio - but I don't know if that's really the right way to go about it
If you can edit the sprites to fit in the original 48x48 size you won’t have any placement issues. But if you want to use a bigger sprite and accomodate the larger dimensions it would require editing the hex code to use different drawing positions for the Digimon sprites. This can be time consuming and require a lot more technical knowledge. I actually guided @crisp adder on how to do this a while back and I believe he successfully got it working for DMC so I think he should be able to help if you’re interested in trying that
All the game state variables are initialized in the flash memory, so yes it’s possible to add more variables in the bin. In fact I’ve added several to PenC+ for the new features.
Thanks!
I suppose its best I try reaching out! I've never tried anything like this before, so the uncertainty in how to approach this has been pretty intimidating..
Having someone more experienced in the matter as a guide will definitely be of help!

I've done it for the DMC so far, I'm planning to implement it on PenC Plus as well down the line
but it might take a while
What size of sprites have you gotten to work on the dmc? Are 64x64 or 80x80 doable?
64x56 since thats the max for VB sprites
aside from repositioning the sprites with the hex code
I also edited the animation hex so that it only use 7 frames (idle1, idle2, walk1, walk2, happy, sleep, attack) for efficiency and saving space
in case if anyone want to see
...though I know Mametyramon isn't exactly a good example due to how small he is, but you can see how he is aligned lower than where Digimon would usually stand at on screen
(I should probably do my own thread)
A thread for this would be hella sic
Yeah, considering how in-depth it is to get this working a new thread would make the most sense
On second thought, I'm not sure if I'll do a thread but feel free to DM me to ask about it instead
Ah yeah, one last thing:
You may not be able to fit all 31-32 Digimon when using my VB sprites mod for it will bloat the size and possibly overwrite the save address, 17-18 are the safe amount for a roster
oh is the storage space THAT limited
this looks awesome
yep, in my first attempt 2 years ago, I tried making all the 31 mons 64x56 in PenC Metal Empire, it made the bin go over 8mb
reduced a bit to somewhere 24+, it worked but it overwrote the save address instead so save kept getting deleted
reduced again to 17-18, about the size of DIM Roster, and it worked
but it wasn't perfect that time
Where is the data stored exactly?
@brave steppe hi do you have plans to implement the plus patch on the new pendulums?
Thanks

No prob
Hi all, I appreciate everyone’s interest in this mod and all the comments you’ve left. That said, I’ve been pretty busy lately so I want to ask everyone to stick to asking specifically PenC+ related questions here, and anything outside of that scope please ask on the modding_vpets channel. Also I encourage you all to search the thread before asking.
Most of the questions being asked at this point have either already been answered previously or are more general modding questions that could be asked in the general modding channel. This includes anything about sprite changing or bin hacking. That’s what the modding_vpets channel is there for and posting in the appropriate place helps keep community knowledge better organized for posterity. Thanks everyone.
ok so i patched the bin file but no _plus file is showing up
How can I import cut-in at penc+ by cyanic's?
After import, I exported for check the bin. But It didnt imported
😵
What's this mean?
Finally I did it
Hella sic, congrats on the success!!!
hires sprites really do look better on the hires color screens
How did you import the cut-in sprites
How did you do it, mine don't look like peckmon
Just a sec please
kk
Did you follow the modding guide here?
yea something about digimon ids
but i didnt quite understand
i thought that if i put them in like this, they would automatically go too where they needed to be
They don't lol
Simple answer
like i know but this new bin uses the 1.1 bin as a base
We could try once right?
Importing is different from exporting
well i dont wanna lose my progress...
Did you move your save to the penc+ bin?
yea from earlier
Go on
like i made it like a couple of hours ago
Failure is the best teacher
ok so what do i need to do
Do the import as you used to do but change 805 to 837
ohhhh so just update the number?
And then try flashing
@wintry marten has leveled up! (9 ➜ 10)
you are a gentleman and a scholar and there arent that many left of us, good fellow!
it worked, so you were right, it was because i had it at 805 rather than 837 when creating the new bin
you have my thanks

Hi, do you know if this will be compatible with Godzilla? https://dmc-mod-app.pages.dev/
An application to modify your digimon color
I want to translate it into Spanish. I wanted to try the other method but I don't remember how 😅
that's really more of a general modding question than a penc+ topic
I have question will this mod will still work correctly if I edit the attack animation on the Digimon Color Modding App or will it ruin the Bin?
Ok I did it 😄
Would folks say this mod still worth going for?
I've only got a CH341A mini programmer to work with, but I've watched a YouTube video of some using the exact same kit to extract a Digimon Color bin, so I figured their method could work with a Pendulum Color?
I'm just a wee bit worried about breaking things right out of the gate.
Yeah, the mod's good, adds some nice quality of life features to the penc
Such is the risk for modding
That being said, I agree witb Don that this is a mod worth trying, especially because of the QoL features AND custom sprites you can use
Thanks @vital epoch and @muted flint for your insight! Think I might practice extracting the bin with one of my other vpets first, but will probably end up giving it a go.

Just looking at the QoL features alone makes the process seem worth it!
Yes
yes its the same method I just mod my pendulum color last weekend
its easy actually just put some glasses or a magnying glass if your eyesight is not that good and a lantern (phone torch works) and see that the legs of the chips aligns with the teeth of the clip
Thank you! That's honestly really reassuring! 👍

If you need help or questions let me know I can help really the only problem I had was finding assprogdammer but I found one that said 2.2 and also the drivers for the usb ch341A
The only hard stuff was finding the driver for the ch341A but I just googled it
Thank you so much for the advice! If finding the correct drivers is the hardest part, then I'm pretty confident I can now pull this off.
wishing you luck!! PenC Plus is extremely worth it IMO. Really hoping there will be something similar for the Digimon Color some day
what guide should i be using the PenC currently
All the guides in the top post are up to date

Hii, one question, V7 are still not supported rigth?
Nah, as far as I'm aware the dev's currently working on a big DMC mod that's been in the works for quite a while
Oh okey thansk so much!
Hi, I have a question, to get a traited egg do I still need to wait 48 hours for a stage VI digimon when releasing it?
Yes, whether your digimon dies or you retire it the requirements to get the bonus remain the same. A stage VI will need to live with you at least 48 hours before you can retire it if you want the traited egg.
Thanks for answering but I have another question now, there is an evolution clock/bar on the status screen, for stage VI mons it signals the 48 hours?
Correct, for stage VI the evo clock corresponds with the 48 hour period before it becomes “elderly” and starts to be more needy. At that point if it dies or gets retired you’ll get the traited egg. So if you want the bonus make sure not to retire before the meter is full.
Nice, thanks for the answers
@brave steppe I can't seem to turn off during the egg part. How do I do that?
I'm getting this error too.
do I need to use the 1.0 first?
You can turn the device off during the egg animation by holding the C button for a long while, eventually it will make a sound then turn off shortly afterwards. Some windows installs aren't configured to show file extensions by default, are you sure your file's just "back-up" and not something like "back-up.bin"?
You can't do cut-ins with the mod app
You should use cyanics Digimoncolorspritetool
Thank you for letting me know. May I know how to I open the sprite tool? When I'm clicking the .exe file it closes immediately.
It closes immediately because it's a command line program. You can see the usage instructions on the GitHub page.
I'm having a problem with the 1.1 version of the patch, whenever I try to reset, after I select the OK option, the PenC goes back to the boot screen, but still gives me the option to load and my save is still there.
@bronze mesa has leveled up! (7 ➜ 8)
I can reflash the bin, but I want to confirm that it's not a known bug before opening it up again.
Looking into it
Waiting for the feedback. 🫡
Does someone have a demo video on how to run the spritetool? I really can't seem to comprehend it. 🥲
I want to learn how to run it via the github website.
You don't need a video. Reading the guide is how you learn how to use it.
Modding Guide for Kurozatou’s Pendulum Color Plus For all six versions of the Pendulum Color Overview This guide explains how to make modifications to your own PenC+ .bin files; the process is slightly different from modifying a vanilla .bin. This guide may be updated if future versions of PenC...
I mean I have already read this. However, I really don't know much of running the program.
You use a terminal on your computer to run the tool.
Do I need like a specific program to run the .exe file?
cmd or powershell will let you run terminal tools.
Running a program like that is the least you have to know to mod a color. You also have to hash check your reads to make sure you didn't get a bad one, and that also depends on using a terminal
Yeah, but like the guide shows you, there are a lot of parameters you need to pass to the tool...
@brave steppe, I just repatched a clean DSa file and It's still giving me the same result when trying to reset the device.
What is <outFile> for?
The name of your output file
Also please use the general modding channel for sprite tool
okay sorry.
All six versions were tested and I can now confirm that there is a bug present in DSa just as you found, and it’s only in that version. I’m looking into getting that fixed and posted soon. For anyone using any of the other five PenC versions there won’t be any need to update as they don’t seem to have the bug.
Thank you, @brave steppe!
Gave +1 Digi-rep to @brave steppe (current: #36 - 68)
Ok, took a bit to sort out but the DSa bug should be fixed now. The new version has been uploaded to the usual download location. Once again, nobody needs to update if they're not running DSa, but if you are it'd be wise to repatch your clean DSa bin and transfer your save as per the guide's instructions.
Thank you!

How do I activate debug mode?
IIRC, from the starting screen A+B+C, then B+C. All while your device is connected and charging.
Might be wrong, I couldn't do it myself. :c
@hallow birch, I saw some messages of you talking about debug mode here. Is that the correct way of entering it?
Yup from the load screen
Im still unable to put cut ins😅
What command did you use to import the sprites?
Wait I'll get back with some screenshots.
Hi for cut in, is it possible to use dmc mod app to replace instead of DigimonColorSpriteTool?
Which of these images should I replacing with the cutins?
thank you
oh wow, something's gone really wrong with that, 805 onward have been corrupted, what did you write to export these?
I mentioned you at the modding vpets section
Moreover, I replaced them manually.
idk it is the correct way. 😅
You have been advised time and time again how to use the sprite tool, dunno what more to tell you.
Yeah. Either the read was a bad one or he isn't using the proper parameters.
@brave steppe, what are the conditions for debug mode? I can't activate it following the charging and A+B+C then B+C on the boot screen.
Is the screen displaying Load and Reset with the selection arrow on Load?
Detailing what I tried:
- Plug PenC for charging;
- Press reset;
- On boot screen (Rukamon silhouette), A+B+C, then B+C;
All of that and at the end I'm still at the same screen with the silhouette.
Is that supposed to happen?
I can go into the LOAD/RESET screen after, but that just results in coming back to the normal gameplay cycle.
If you’re not seeing Load and Reset with the selection arrow on Load when you press A+B+C it won’t work
From what you’re saying it sounds like you’re pressing the buttons on the wrong screen
What should it be? A+B+C on the silhouette screen?
I did it. Yeah, I was in the wrong screen.

Everything alright with my DSa now.
Hi after patching with penC+, can I still use the dmc mod app to change the sprites and build new bin? Will it overwrite the patch content?
That's what I did and it worked but there are a few funky things
Some late stage digimon will have their names connected if you edit the names, so it'll be like mastemonagumon
Also editing cut in sprites aren't supported
Personally I still prefer to use it despite those downsides
Thanks for the information.

Just take note that debug mode doesn't unlock the album
I followed the instructions to patch my .bin file and successfully generated the _plus.bin. Using AsProgrammer, I loaded the _plus.bin and clicked the 'Program IC' button to write it. After the process finished, my device won't turn on at all, no matter what buttons I press. Here is the screenshot of the software interface after the writing process.
Help! What's wrong with my process and how can I revive my device?
did you try plugging your device into a chareger and pressing the c button for extended periods of time?
Oh no, I rewatched the video and realized that I didn't keep the reset button held down the entire time while reading the data.
If so, then the penc+ would've rejected modding
Try dmc hash check on your original bin file
this is the result
huh, it looks intact
it should work
i use this bin file to patch, and the after process
yes, but it's useless
weird
Is the correct procedure to use 'AsProgrammer' to open the '_plus.bin' file and then click the 'Program IC' button to write it?
if I restore the original bin file
can it open as before?
yea
thanks, i will give it a try
to be clear did you use this option
no, i just only press the "programm ic" button
im using this option to try again
but i still don't press the reset button
how about you press the reset button too
@hallow birch has leveled up! (45 ➜ 46)
it's slow
seems that i didnt use the option you mentioned
by the way, how to clean the inside screen, a glass cloth is ok?
i made some fingerprint on it
yep
booting and everything?
yes, it open again, and with the penc+ mod
good job!
ok,

For anyone that is going to try it. I'd recommend reading the guide and watching Zach's video.
Is there a way to not have some of the features this mod provides? There are a few I just straight up don't want, like the C button menu.
The guide FAQ actually covers that question
It’s just the nature of a big mod like this. Handling six different versions was already tough enough to begin with.
seeing that in release note :
JP1 bridged programmatically — no more soldering for debug access
so just reset->A+B+C then B+C with typeC connection ?
for debug mode selection
Yes, but you need to make sure you're on the correct screen when you press the buttons. See here: #1356613481532489892 message
Just to make it clear, cause I had issues at this step, make sure it is done on the Load/Reset Screen after you turn it on. SO Technically With USB-C plugged to power : Rest->B->(load/Rest Screen)A+B+C, Then B+C
yea thanks a lot, i was so dump after trying to study the rom
