if you're working on a mobile device, I personally like the app Pixel Studio for sprites. Its available on both apple and android devices!

I use Clipstudio paint and Krita, both are for digital art in general but also work really well for sprite work if you use lower resolutions.

Krita is free too, so it's a great option

Creating pixel art on a phone is very convenient, but I’m not sure if there are other options that are both convenient and free.
